Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I am taking it slowly, I suppose. Week #1 was good as far as I got in my cardio everyday and tracked my food as much as I could. I needed more strength training and was surprised to learn that I'm often not getting enough calories when I'm trying to watch what I eat. SP has my on 1,920-2,270 calories per day and I'm rarely hitting that even with trying to get the snacks and balanced meals in.

Yep, beer has been added to my tracker, although hunting down nutritional info for all the various beers is a bit of a chore. I'm surprised manufactures don't offer that info up more easily. I guess they know it's all sugar and carbs and maybe some sodium.

Euphrates...I'm heavily involved with the music scene and tend to go out whatever night of the week if there is a show I want to catch. No children makes that easier, although I have slowed down with age. It has lead to over indulgence on many levels, but primarily too many calories and not enough sleep. I'm a night owl now.

I have known and followed OTR since 1991. We were closer friends with the original band lineup and Rich used to come over and jam now and then. We actually took care of their doves (I know, right?) when they went on tour with Dylan in 1992. I've known Mark Messerly about as long and know all the folks in his two bands. The music community is fairly small in Cincinnati, so if you've hung out for any amount of time you're bound to meet these people.

I work as an independent consultant handling PR and marketing communications and work with the MidPoint Music Festival. So, social drinking has lead me down a path to being overweight. I'm trying to cut it down to one or two beers when I go out, if that.

Anyhow, it's been a good education so far to use the tracker and the folks here have been fantastic. I hope everyone else hangs in there and hits their goals.

I keep telling my new boss (who just moved here from California) that Northern KY is really just another suburb of Cincinnati, but I don't think he believes me (he's living in KY, since our work site is in Florence). LOL

Glad you found the team! Dora is right - try not to do too much at once, just make a few changes and build on your successes!

And I find that tracking is invaluable - particularly since I like to indulge in the occasional alcohol myself. :) I just plan for it, and include it in my daily calories.

So what bands do you go see? Or is it a "whoever happens to be playing this weekend" kind of thing? We follow Over The Rhine around (no really, since my first OTR concert in March of 07, I've seen them over 30 times), and catch Ellery any time they're playing, and Wussy if we can (my mate is good friends with Mark Messerly the bass player). We're heading up to Canal Street Tavern in Dayton on Feb. 4th to catch Michael Kelsey - he's amazing. :)
Unfortunately, working nights kind of puts a crimp on what we can do during the week though. *sighs*

Welcome to the team! Be sure to start slow. Sometimes it's best to track one thing at a time until it becomes habit. I recommend starting with food as it is what many cite as the most powerful learning tool, especially at the beginning. Don't obsess too much over calories either. Just start the habit of logging.

I hope you find the same warm, supportive environment here at Sparkpeople that I've enjoyed. There is a lot of knowledge available from experienced Sparkers.

Good luck on your new journey!!

I cannot make myself be thin today, but I CAN be healthier by making a few smart choices. I focus on what needs to be done today and tomorrow takes care of itself.

Thank you Sparkfriends for being my roses!

Hi,

I live in Northern Kentucky, but consider myself in Cincinnati. Tracking anything I do to the level they are asking on this site is pretty new to me. I believe I'm going to need some motivation at some point. Hope to meet some people along the way.

I'm into live music quite a bit so I fall into the drinking beer trap and perhaps snacks on the way home. I really need to increase my activity to counter that behavior.

Anyhow...hope everyone is doing well on their journey.
