@JANEGRACIEN Thanks! And, great job on setting up your SparkPage!

@RSKATINGADDICT Your advice/question regarding "Is there something you used to like to do as a kid?" is so awesome! I forget about this, but essentially this is what helped me rediscover biking. Had I asked myself that question earlier along my journey, I probably would have gotten back into biking sooner than I did. Great advice!

Yea! Dancing!
I don't know what area you are in, but if you like cover bands, the Rockin Hollywoods are playing in Forest Lake this Friday evening. I take my teen to as many of these kind of free shows as I can in the summer and dance like a fool no matter what other people think. Thankfully the RH have a lot of dancing fool followers. I plan on being there with my teen, toddler, friends and even possibly my husband this week. This may be a great thing to take your kiddos to!
Have a wonderful day.

Thank you for the message. I love to read so I've done a lot of research for my vegan life style. I also have a great doctor who is always full of ideas and support. I danced for 20 minutes today, so now I just have to make it a habit. Thanks for the support.

Welcome!
Ditto what has already been said.
Plus,It's okay to love your bed, but make it special. When you get out of it, "make it". Sounds simple, but it might be difficult to do at first. Put your favorite book on the night stand, or tablet or whatever you enjoy. It needs to be a special place of comfort for the end of the day. Right now it sounds more like your prison.
Is there something you used to like to do as a kid? This was the best advice ever given to me. Exercise sounds overwhelming. Skating, hopscotch, and monkey bars sound like fun! When I heard this, I put my skates back on my feet! What a joy. Plus it got me going. Now I do a wide variety of things.
Best of luck and blessings to you.
Melinda

Welcome and thanks for the intro! There are so many great resources here, including a bunch of stuff specifically about depression, see:

Like SERGEANTMAJOR mentioned, vegan diets can often be deficient in nutrients (including those related to depression). That said, I was a very strict vegan for three years and was quite healthy and happy during that time without putting too much thought into it. So, best thing to do is go to a doctor, let them know you are vegan and get thorough lab tests done which should be able to pinpoint if you are actually deficient. Remember, every "body" is different.

Exercise is also a great, free anti-depressant. Start with something small that you can do on a regular basis, even if it just a few minutes a day to start. You can build a lot of momentum with those small achievements.

If you are trying to lose weight, I recommend starting with the nutrition/food tracker because that's the key element in weight loss for most people. It takes a little bit of time, but it is so worth it!

Finally, setting up your own SparkPage and making it public/accessible will make it easier for others to provide you with support, motivation and encouragement!

I am not trying to be harsh but I suggest the first thing you do is examine your diet to ensure you are getting the adequate ratio of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fats, vegan diets are often deficit.. Check here on Spark for dietary guidelines for depression. With regard to exercise just do it regardless of how short a time it is, a body in motion tends to remain in motion a body at rest tends to remain at rest.

Look me up if you want to talk or to have me help supply motivation.

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.

Hi, I'm 43, divorced, mom of two kids (7,9) and one new puppy. I'm vegan, depressed and very much in love with my bed. I want to be healthier so I've got to spend less time with my bed and more time walking my new puppy but motivation and energy are greatly lacking.
