If you have not yet discovered it there is a team devoted to women who want to get fit and stay fit. I invite you to join F.I.T. Females in Training to find a support group and information on how other women are working out and progressing on their fitness journey.

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Hello everyone!

I've been on the Spark People Team since 2010 and moved to Minneapolis in 2011. I'm just getting around to saying hi...guess I felt the need to be settled first! Anyway, I started taking my fitness a little bit more seriously after I graduated college in 2008....the freshman 15 is an understatement...but, I wasn't all in, at least not yet. I half-heartedly watched what I ate and only went to the gym when I felt like it. That led to going no where and more weight gain.

In December of 2010,, my mom talked about Spark People and, upon seeing a photo we had taken at Christmas, I knew I had let things go for way to long and I hated the way I looked and felt. At 26, I felt sluggish and knew that's not how a 26-year-old should feel.

I started eating healthier, choosing more veggies, fruits and nuts over many of the other things I used to eat. I didn't want to do the whole yo-yo diet thing my aunt had been doing for years. I wanted a lifestyle change. And I did it...slowly.

I was in the midst of looking for a job in the Twin Cities metro area and planning my move, so working out was sparadic at best during the last months of my life in Sioux Falls, SD. But the scale didn't continue its steady upward climb. It stayed put, with a wobble down here and there.

In March of 2011, I landed a job in downtown Minneapolis, moved here, started taking the bus and walking everywhere. I also joined a gym and have worked my way to going 5-7 days a week. I've come to enjoy running on occasion, yoga, Pilates, swimming, strength training and HIIT. I've finally am able to do a shoulder stand!

In choosing to eat healthier and be more active, I've seen some big changes on all levels. After having lost 32 lbs in two years and gaining some muscle tone/mass, I not only look better, I feel great! I have more energy and enjoy doing a vast array of things in and around the metro area. I even enjoy hiking up north! It's been slow-going, but oh-so-worth-it. I know that the weight will be easier to keep off, especially now that this is a habit, not something I have to force myself to do every day.
