Thanks everyone! It was really neat to see my friend, because he didn't seem overweight, or not by much. But now he seems so much healthier. And his family has a huge problem with blood pressure and cholesterol, so to hear that he'd gotten both into very healthy ranges by his nutritional choices was great. Interestingly, he's now a coach for the program out in Arizona, but his wife only lasted two weeks before giving up. Oh well. Nothing works for everyone I suppose.

Today I go to MOM's for fresh, organic veggies. I'm focusing on vegetables that tend to carry a high pesticide load in traditionally grown veggies. I plan to get broccoli, summer squash, salad greens, and cauliflower at the very least. And I'm hoping they have pine nuts. I LOVE pine nuts on salad. :)

Hi all, new to the team. I've been struggling with my weight for a number of years, and am almost 59. I have several health problems, many of which would be helped by taking some weight off. For the last two or three years I've been making slow changes, and interestingly, many of them are in line with this program.

Three years ago I gave up soda. Completely. The whole idea, especially of diet soda, completely disgusts me now. I have had NO interest in pastries, chocolate, candy, etc., in many months. Slowly, it's happening.

I was doing very well a year ago. Had taken off some weight, was exercising more, and made the mistake of thinking that I was so happy I could go off one of my antidepressants. Nope. That sent me backwards in a way that I've only fully recovered from this past autumn.

Anyway, I happened to meet up with an old friend while I was at the Arizona Renaissance Festival (I have shops there and in North Carolina) a few weeks ago. He had been doing this for a year. He'd lost 35 pounds and his cholesterol and blood pressure had drastically dropped into low normal range. So I'm intrigued. I'm certainly in the right mindset. I've lost over 20 pounds this year, and am eating more veggies and such than usual. I have the book "The End of Dieting" rather than ETL, and haven't gotten too far into it yet, but the general philosophy is similar to books I've read about preventing a cancer recurrance (I'm a breast cancer survivor) and such. So, I look forward to learning about creative ways to eat this way.

I should warn everyone that I truly take his words to heart when he says this isn't a diet. I don't think of it that way at all. I think of it as reprogramming my mind and body and taste buds to eat what's truly healthy for me. So I will never use the word "cheat" or any of those other diet mentality words. It's very, very important to me that this simply be a way of life. And no strict rules, in keeping with that ideal. The changes I've made that I've kept up have been that way. Slow, steady changes, for health and happiness and joy.

Tonight I made a whole grain spaghetti with organic pesto and marinara, and guess what? The only thing I could think of to make it better would be steamed summer squash and other veggies on it!!! I am fortunate to have a Mom's Organic Market just one mile from me. I will be shopping there this week!!!

So excited to share our journeys!

To our HEALTH!!! emoticon
