Welcome! You are actually in a bit of a different situation from some of us because it doesn't matter if your changes seem like a big bad diet or not; your health is at stake and trumps all, I hope! The good news is that stats show that many people who do actually lose and maintain weight do as a result of making permanent dietary changes because of health concerns. (It's really the better quality food/ less food and other behaviors that benefit so much; the weight loss is just a side effect. A lucky one, in our culture.

This is your year!

Seven years of maintaining a 20% weightloss and counting.

Welcome to the team Deborah!!!

You have come to the right place! Spark has all the tools you need to be successful in your weightloss efforts. Nothing like a health scare to light the fire under your tush! You can do this!!! The food tracker will be your best friend. Remember, many small changes over a period of time will lead to a lifestyle change. That is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. I used to view these things as a "diet" and I would lose and gain again and again doing the yo-yo thing. I also think focusing on the things you are going to gain (i.e. a healthy lifestyle, be more active, fit into smaller clothes, feel better about yourself, new friends who are active, learn new hobbies, try new things) are important to focus on. I hated thinking about all the things I was going to give up. Now, I see that I really gave up very little to gain a whole new life.

YOU CAN DO THIS! If we can support you in any way, please let us know. We love supporting people on their journey!

Happy Sparkin,
Leah

Hi everyone,
I just recently found SP in the last couple weeks and am finally getting more comfortable with the site.

I have been in north San Diego for 12 years and come from Palm Desert originally. I am married to a wonderful man and we have two fur-children.

I have been battling weight issues for most of my life but the last 10 years I have battled a significant weight increase and can't seem to find my way back to a comfortable size.

In recent weeks, I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition and am forced to change my lifestyle, including nutrition and exercise. To say the fear has been put into me is putting it mildly. I am dedicating this year to finding the real me underneath all the weight. I know I have it in me to be healthy, fit, athletic, and successful in life.

I'm hoping to find, and give back, support & motivation for living healthy and happy lives. I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully becoming friends.

Happy 2013!
Deborah
