Hi Nicki! I definitely need a Spark Buddy and support too. I have been on SP for a couple of years but I'm determined to stay the course this time and get this weight off. I am looking for support when it comes to staying motivated and getting my exercise in. Let me know how I can help you! Wishing you the best of success and the enjoyment of the journey to get to your goal! Angela

I've done several 5ks in Houston and several others have. It's a great thing to work toward. I have to walk as much as run because of my knees but eventually get there. I just never know my schedule far enough in advance to sign up most of the time. Sigh...

Hi, my name is Lynnette. I don't know if I introduced myself yet. I am a mother of 4 kids ranging from 7 to 14 years old. I haven't been trying to lose weight as long as most people. I was very underweight until I had my first kid. Then, I was at a good weight. It all went downhill after that! I joined Spark People almost 18 months ago. Right now I am dealing with emotional eating. I have not had to think about why I am eating. I just eat. Bored, happy, sad, whatever!

I would like to get a 5k race team together for one that is happening in Houston. A friend of mine is looking for one and if it works out, we could get a team up and show Houston how great Spark People is!

I can do all things in Christ, who strengthens me!

Hello,
I start out again since I left the spark pages for a while. Was unable to get retrive my password on my old account so started a new one. I'm 44 years old, mom of 3, and have been struggling with my weight off and on since my birth of my children. Gain even more weight after a knee injury.
I currently do the my workouts at my local ymca and enjoy doing zumba, cycling, body pump, and body combat. When I can do a few yoga classes.
Biggest down fall of course is the weekend junk food days so looking for support in the sticking with the meal plan.

Hope to get to know all of you
-GG

Welcome to the team and even though it's been a while, welcome to Houston! It's difficult moving to a new town AND a new marriage, but it seems you are doing well. walking is awesome, cheap exercise and so very good for you! Look forward to seeing more of you on the thread!

Hello,

I, like JesseFit, started my account a while back, but have just really got active online. I'm new to the Houston area--moved here last July from the Pacific Northwest.

It's been a whirlwind of change for me. Got married in April, immediately afterward my husband was informed he'd been transferred back to Houston (he'd only been in the Northwest for 3 years), and we moved to Houston in July.

I'm unemployed right now, but hope to get a school librarian job for next school year. I had a few interviews in August, but wasn't hired. ("Missed it by that much.") I miss working with students. I'm adjusting to being a housewife in a new area. I miss my friends and workmates. I have met some very nice neighbors (walking helps one meet neighbors) and I had met some of my husband's Houston friends from previous visits.

Looking forward to getting the extra pounds off. I lost 40+ pounds about ten years ago, but about half of them crept back on over the decade. I've managed to lose 10 and am now getting serious about the last 10 that seem to really like hanging around.

Thanks for reading this.

If you're going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill

Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I actually opened my Sparkpeople account a while back but never really used it. Just yesterday I started a 1500 calorie diet and needed a way to track it. I remembered this site and started to use it yesterday.

There's times where I really don't feel motivated and I am hoping to find the support and tools I need right here.

I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment with large amount of info and tools on this site but hope to become familiar with them soon!

We'll be in touch!

Jes

Hi Samantha! Welcome to the team! The treadmill is a great way to get some cardio in but don't forget about strength training. Building muscle helps to burn the fat while doing the cardio so they need to go hand-in-hand. You are going to do great!

Hi All,

Im Samantha, and I am 24 years old and live on the Eastside of Downtown. I have a little 2 year old boy, and have been married for 4 years. I moved to Houston 2 and a half years ago, prior to that I grew up in London England. Due to having a baby, and depression I put on 34 pounds in a year. I would really like to get down to 130, right now I have a treadmill, which I have started using for 45 mins a day...I would really like to find a work out buddy, and learn more on low cal vegitarian cooking.

Welcome Bev! With the weather in Houston getting nicer, be sure to check out the many walking parks all over the city! Memorial Park is awesome, the Arboretum is amazing and there are other walking trails all over the city.

Hi, my name is Bev, I moved to Houston last May and with that I gained close to 20lbs. I know it's due to me not moving around as I used to. I am hoping that I can get lots of motivation and support here.

I'm Wendy. About 10 years ago, I was single and looming near 200 lbs. That big 2-0-0 number scared me and through daily swimming after 4 months solid, I finally started to lose weight. The pounds dropped off and I found myself at 145lb after 8 months. But now after being married for a few years, I'm at 170lbs. I've been at this weight for a good 3 years now. I don't think there's a worry that I will be as big as I used to be; I have been consistently working out 3 times a week, but I'd like to get back to that lean, trim me. That was the best shape I ever was and I'd like work back to that and stay there.

I understand how you feel.
I fell off my bike last March and ended up jackking up my knee and having surgery - doing the PT thing and being told NO... you cant go to the gym yet. Had to return to work earlier than I should have... and tired of waiting for the knee to just feel like it used to. I figure its not going to advance until I work it! So Im working it!!!!!!!

I feel ya sistah!

Hi carol. I can so relate to letting your guard down and gaining too much. Been there done that a million times. Lol. I'm going to go to the gym for two hour long classes today and I'm excited. Eventually when my outside life calms down I will try to get a spark rally together.

Hi, I'm Carol. 42 yrs old, mom of three little ones and married to a wonderful guy. I am so excited to see that Houstonians have our own team. Love knowing that there are others around me trying to do the same thing. I joined SP last year and had great success with it. I took off on a great year of fitness but got lazy towards the end of 2010. I let my guard down, celebrated my success a bit too much and I got 12 pounds over where I want to be. I'm on my way back down, though!

Rhonda - just turned (gulp) 45. Empty nest again. Post knee surgery from falling off my bike last May. I have gained about 7.5 lbs since my surgery. That shrucks. So my 1st goal.. is to get back down to my lowest. I started p90x after seeing my (well what used to be) my 2nd home jacked up crowded and know that its crazy in there right now. So Im taking it to the HOUSE... I started SP back in 08 and went from 252 to 185. I'm now 192 and things arent fitting right no more... and I dont like it.

so .. I'll just DO MY BEST.. and forget the rest.

Emily, I belong to 24 hour fitness too. I hardly ever have time to go though. Hopefully I will be able to start going to the classes. The one at Westheimer closer to the beltway has a Zumba class on Tuesday and an aqua class on Thursday that I'm thinking of trying to get to. The one at Dairy Ashford has Zumba on Monday but I don't like the teacher. She is nice enough and is a great dancer but she just does the moves and doesn't tell you what you are supposed to do.

Hi! I've been a member of this team since late November, but I haven't very active on any of the boards until late. My name is Emily, I'm 28 years old and I live in Southwest Houston, in Alief. I joined SparkPeople from the encouragement of a friend. Since then I joined and have progressively been losing weight. I go to 24 hour fitness on the Southwest side. Maybe I'll see some of you there. :-D

Welcome Breanne! I'm glad you joined the group. Hopefully you will find exactly what you are looking for! Only a few more weeks left in 2010. It's a great time to start a new lifestyle!

Hi my name is Breanne and I am starting my weightloss journey. It has been four years since my son was born and I have 40-50 lbs of weight to lose. I am hoping that I will get motivation from hearing other people's tips and success stories. Good luck to everyone!

Hello, everyone. I'm a 20-year-old mother to two beautiful girls, ages 2 years and 7 months. I have a wonderful boyfriend whom I've been with for almost a year. I just recently moved here to Houston from Arkansas.
I just joined Spark today so I haven't had the time to start my weight loss plan, but I'll be there soon! I'm also hoping to find a walking partner that's available later in the evening,so if there's anyone in the Braeswood/Chimney Rock area that's interested in doing that, send me a message!

Congratulations on joining and taking control of your life. It is so easy to let ourselves just move along eating what we want, exercising when we want and just letting life get in the way. It is important and a wonderful step to take when we first say I am reasponsible for myself and then live our lives accordingly!

Hi guys (and gals)!
I am pretty new to spark and have been enjoying it but have once again fallen off the wagon after only a couple of days. I need a buddy who can help me hold myself accountable for what I eat. I have been using the nutrition tracker and see the immense calories I am taking in. It has deterred me some but I have not lost anymore weight.

I am married with an 11 month old. We are very happy! I look for forward to seeing you on here!

Oh I can relate to that one. I finalized my second divorce this past year and it was the best thing I've ever done! The stress is overwhelming but you can and will get through it!

Okay so I was a firefighter for a few years and then I became a Single mom in 2008, met who I thought was a wonderful man and got married 19 May, 2009 BUT I am now in the process of a divorce, so I need to get healthy for my sanity through all of this. If I dont get healthy now I will keep putting it off until it is just too late.

Welcome to the team. I know it can be difficult to lose weight after having ba baby but it CAN be done! Have patience and be understanding of yourself. Know that you will have good days and bad days--every one does. When the bad times hit take it one day at a time and you will get to your goal!

Hi Everyone! I'm a wife and mother of 2 beautiful girls. One is 2 and a half and the other is only a month old. I have gained weight from both pregnancies and now I am at my heaviest. I weighed in at 197 two weeks post partum and stayed there up until I started dieting and working out. I am determined to lose this weight and be at lower than my pre-pregnancy weight of my first pregnancy by August 26th of 2011. I know I can do this!

I know how it feels to put exercise second and it seems the more times you skip it the easier it is to skip! I have bought countless gym memberships and went several times a week the first few months then miss one day then two days and pretty soon I miss a month. The classes are what get me into the gym! If I make it to the classes, I make it to the gym.

I am 31 and have found that the older I get the harder it is to lose weight. Up until 4 months ago I was working with a personal trainer which totally transformed my life and my way of thinking. I had to quit my trainer for family business reasons and now I am trying to put exercise back into my daily schedule and it is difficult. I do enjoy excercising but the moment I let it go for a few days the easier it got to not workout. So despite the personal drama in my life I have started taking classes at the gym again and bought a mountain bike as well. If anyone wants to go for a bike ride or a walk and close to the heights area let me know

I've had four babies and each time the weight is harder to get off. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll do great! Be sure to use the tracking system for your food and for your fitness. It really makes a difference!
