Welcome to the team. I remember when my first husband was alive we used to set out a whole bunch of (mostly unhealthy) snacks to "help" us watch the Superbowl and the Daytona 500. Nobody's ever gonna wonder how I got to weight over 200 pounds emoticon My second husband doesn't really like to watch NASCAR races, which means that we won't spend nearly as much time together on the weekends once racing season starts, and also that nobody's going to be encouraging me to stock up for my first heart attack on race day anymore.

Good and bad. I still miss my first husband, but I really love the man I'm married to now and since he's also trying to lose weight I get a lot of good support on that front now.

Anyway, Welcome to the team. Nice to have you on board with us. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Welcome Edwina to the team. I agree with Nascar-Chick about finding healthy snacks for the race watching. I like to have my yogurt and rice cakes. I keep them figured in my daily calories. Your idea of a bike is good but I dont have room in my trailer. Good luck getting one. Nice to have you with us and so glad its getting close to race time. Jr is my favorite but I love to root for an underdog if he is winning

Welcome to the team...

I can relate... I started out at 272 myself! And our Sunday ritual was a HUGE plate of appetizers (buffalo wings, fried mushrooms, onion rings, mozz stix & nachos... etc.) while we sat down to watch the race!

If I can do it... you CAN!!! I still like to nosh during the race, but now it's on celery stix w/ peanut butter or carrots w/ fat free Ranch or my personal favorite, apple slices w/ low fat caramel dip! You don't have to stop what you're used to doing, you just need to find a healthier way to do it!

The bike is a great idea... I have one and jump on it while I watch the race. I found a good challenge too... I like to ride it during the "pre-race" broadcast, and do "sprints" either during the commercials or while they interview a driver. It gives me a better workout and breaks up the monotomy of just riding the bike.

Good Luck reaching your goals!!!

Hello EDWINAVA! I hear ya about snacking during the race - that's gonna be very hard for me too.

Good luck with your goals!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to Spark People, but not a new NASCAR fan. My favorite driver is Tony Stewart. I also like Dale, JR, Carl Edwards, and Mark Martin. Actually, I don't really dislike anybody except Robby Gordon and Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch. I weigh an enormous 290 pounds, and not snacking while watching the race is one of the first changes I am going to try to make. Eventually, I hope to get an exercise bike to put in front of the television.

Happy Daytona 500 and Rolex 24!
