Welcome, Kath_e and hello GillBell. I really love the cognitive approach to things! For me, it was the first thing in a long time that made a difference. I started close to two years ago, and I have lost around 35 to 40 pounds, depending where you put the starting point. It was faster at the beginning, but I'm still losing every few months, and more important, I am NEVER going to go back up there again!

I'm on day 9. I'm starting my diet tomorrow. I'm a little worried but I know I've lost weight before and I can lose it again. I hope the book will help me in the long run to keep the weight off because I've been yo-yo dieting for as long as I can remember. I'm 40 years old and I don't have the energy to keep dieting anymore. Approx. 20 years ago I used an offshoot of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) called rational emotive therapy (RET) for another aspect of my life and it worked wonders. I did truly change my thinking. I learned RET from a book written by Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck. The Beck book is written by Aaron Beck's daughter. Although I used CBT for a different problem CBT can be applied to numerous problems such as smoking, drinking, overeating, etc. I was very excited to find a book using CBT methods specifically geared toward overeating. I think if we can follow through with what she recommends to do we can truly change our thinking. Now, if only I can stick to it...

Hi, I've been here on Spark for and on. I got the Beck book at Christmas and I've been reading it, thought I'd search to see if there is a team doing it and that's how I found this team...Thanks for having me. I've been working through the Beck Book I'm on day 7 and I'm already dieting even though she said to delay for 2 weeks. I'm doing well though. I've been trying to use some of her ideas to help me get through the rough times.
I Look forward to discussing these concepts with you all.
