Hi! I'm kelly. I was once on the team charmed swappers, but had to leave it due to some issues that came up in my life, and I had to downsize on spark teams. I haven't been quilting in about 5 years, but started back last week. I have a sewing room set up and my husband made me a 3' X 6' sewing table with shelves in the corners. Tue, 30 Aug 2016 09:35:29 EST newbie I am new to here. I was a member of SP a few years ago and stopped and had to recreate myself again in here. I am married, 2 adult kids, 2 four legged kids, love to quilt, read, be out in the woods and want to be healthier so I can do more out in the woods. I have too much to live for to stay in the condition that I am in right now! I hope I got this message in the right spot. I got frustrated trying to move around in SP and am hoping it is now easier or that I will learn lol
Sat, 21 Feb 2015 01:55:17 EST New Member Hey everyone!

I just found this team today. I'm glad to find it. I have been quilting since I was around 13 or 14. I made my first quilt in 1996. I still use it to this day, but it is getting holes in it now. I am possibly going to be teaching my students quilting at our life skills center. I am just finishing up a Global Friendship Quilt group. We will be finished in December. It has been interesting to see see the different blocks come into me, and has challenged me to learn about paper piecing. Do you do anything like this within this group? Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Donna Wed, 22 Oct 2014 14:35:54 EST July 2014 goals and resolutions OK, not being alowed to ride my bike for the past 6 weeks has taken it's toll. Mon, 30 Dec 2013 11:07:14 EST Hi from MA!! Hi All! I joined SP in 2008 but was a spotty contributer/tracker. I started quilting in 2010 and have fallen in love with this craft. Here are mine for March.

1) lose 3 pounds
2) ride 200 miles
3) clean and declutter the guest rooms and closets

Let's hear yours. Wed, 29 Feb 2012 08:56:37 EST Hello My name is Tami. I started making quilts 4 years ago. In that time I have managed only 6 quilts. I quilt by hand. I got a quilting machine for Christmas, so I hope to make more quilts, and actually keep one of them. My grandmother always showed me what she was working on when she worked on her quilts (both grandmothers did). I just wasn't interested. My Mom tried to get me into it. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, she made quilts for all of her great grandchildren and great nieces ... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 20:25:39 EST New Today to Team Hi All,
I'm new to your team today. I love quilting and finally decided I'm going to start a king sized bed quilt for US (I tend to make things for everyone else! LOL) I look forward to getting to know all of you in time. Mon, 20 Feb 2012 08:43:08 EST "Kitty" quilt... need advice plz I'm making a "Soft Kitty" quilt, putting the words from the song off of "The Big Bang Theory". I want to do it easy... any suggestions? My ideas now are either stencils with fabric paint (or acrylics and fiber medium), or use wonder under to make iron-on appliques. Embroidery seems too much work especially as I'm still healing from a sprained wrist. It's going to be a small quilt... I'm still trying to figure that part out too. Basically my idea is a "cuddle quilt". I'm using that super soft ... Wed, 8 Feb 2012 18:17:56 EST Feb 2012 goals and resolutions Can you believe it is Feb already? I missed one day of strength training while I was out of town for training on a new computer system. But other than that, I met all my goals for January. That feels good.

Now let's get ready for February. I plan to continue to de-clutter my house and work on my strength training. Here are my goals for Feb:

1) lose 3 pounds
2) clean and de-clutter the living room/dining room, and the play room
3) strength train 2 days a ... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 23:40:21 EST Magazines What quilting magazines to you get? I get McCalls Quilting and Quilters World. Wed, 25 Jan 2012 14:34:00 EST Quilt Binding Is a quilt still *technically* a quilt without a binding?
I usually hand sew all my binding and I HATE it.

I really enjoy crazy quilting but find that a binding takes away from the look of the crazy quilting. So I was considering making a quilt with no binding, just right sides sewn together and some top stitching around the edges afterwards.

Would this still be considered a quilt? And would I be able to put it through standards at a craft council without bound e... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 13:05:52 EST New Year New Goals Well this year certainly has flown by. Seems like we just did January resolutions and here we are again. I have given my resolutions/goals for this year a lot of thought. There aren't many of them, but I find them easier to stick to if they are realistic. My goals for the year are:

1) lose my last 25 pounds
2) give my house a really good cleaning and severe de-cluttering
3) stick to my strength training weekly schedule

As usual, I will to break my yearly g... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 22:41:29 EST Hi! I started my first quilt today! I've wanted to quilt for years and I have been making practice squares for years. I am not sure how to finish a quilt..... the steps are kind of overwhelming.... but someone suggested this group and so I decided to join. I also knit, crochet and do other crafts.

I am using electric quilt to plan the quilt. For me that is the easy part. So if anyone wants to take a look at an estimate of what the quilt might look like.... here it is... or rather here is the link to the blogpos... Mon, 26 Dec 2011 18:45:40 EST tee shirt quilt Has anyone ever made one? All the ones I've seen online tell you to use iron on interfacing. I thing that makes for a very stiff quilt. Has anyone used interfacing that desolves with water or no interfacing?? Fri, 2 Dec 2011 12:56:25 EST 2011 December resoluti ns/goals Welcome to December my friends. Can you believe it, Christmas is almost here. I do hope you all did well with your November resolutions/goals. I did my PT very faithfully and was back on the bike quickly. The nutrition I did well with, even if I didn't get to track it every day. Working those extra days really crimps my time.

For December I must continue the careful watch over my nutrition. I will also continue my daily strength training and ride when I can, hike when I can't... Thu, 1 Dec 2011 08:45:55 EST Actually sat down at my sewing machine! I'm sick with a lung virus, so not working out, but I did manage to sit down and do a little work on the blocks for a baby quilt. It was the highlight of my otherwise-miserable day yesterday! Thu, 3 Nov 2011 10:28:04 EST 2011 November Resoluti ns/goals October has come to an end. How fast the year is flying by. I am sad to say, I haven't stuck strictly to my nutrition guidelines this month. I really must do better for November. The PT is going well with my knee and I get at least 45 minutes of strength and stretching twice a day. That is helping a bit. I'm also back on the spin bike for at least 15 minutes twice a day. Not as much as I'm used to, but getting better every day.

For my November Resolution/goal, I must do bet... Any quick ideas ?
Wed, 19 Oct 2011 09:25:36 EST Greetings I'm pretty new to Spark, but not new to quilting. I love fabric and love to quilt, but between work and life I just can't seem to find time to get myself to the sewing machine these days! Spark is so inspiring in other aspects of my life that I thought I'd add quilting groups to my spark teams and see if that support with inspire me to get back to my machine.

Looking forward to getting to know you all! Wed, 31 Aug 2011 23:51:12 EST Glad I found you! Although I've been a member for a couple of months now I am still learning how to use this site. I have been a quilter for about 10 years now. I was hooked after the first quilt a few of us made for a pregnant coworker. Since then I have made many quilts as gifts and some for myself. I quit smoking 9 months ago and gained a lot of weight and now I'm tackling that problem!! I just wish I had more time to quilt than I do. I am in my 50's and work full time...thus problems finding time to quilt!... Wed, 31 Aug 2011 20:32:58 EST 2011 August Resolutions Well, I must admit. I started my July resolutions and did so very well for 2 weeks, then just sort of slipped away. For August I MUST start doing better with my nutrition. That is my goal, again. Sun, 31 Jul 2011 20:58:05 EST Won a ribbon at the fair I decided to put one of my completed baby quilts into the county fair. This was a first for me and I didn't figure I would get anything but I liked the idea of showing it off. Well, I won a second place which really excited me. Sat, 30 Jul 2011 21:19:14 EST Christmas in July? Hello...I need some opinions. I am going to a wedding this weekend and planned on giving a quilted Christmas wall hanging/throw. It's a Christmas panel with added borders and I machine quilted it. I mentioned to a friend that I was giving this and got the that's weird. Is it not an appropriate wedding gift? This is not a family member or even a close friend. It is the wedding of a former student. Please give me your opinions. Mon, 25 Jul 2011 19:03:40 EST Happy to join you I'm happy to join this team. I just finished my fourth t-shirt memory quilt yesterday. They are quilts made from t-shirts with lattice between the squares, and a border. I made these 4 for recent high school graduates. The t-shirts are from teams or clubs that they were a part of in high school. They're quick and easy to do. I also bought fabric for a rotary quilt to make for my son and his fiancee (they are getting married in December). I am looking forward to quilt... Sat, 2 Jul 2011 08:17:33 EST 2011 July Resolutions Well, here it is already, the middle of the year. My how time is flying by. It has been almost unbearably hot and I am going to move my exercise inside for a while. My resolutions for July are to stay in the lower range of my calories and work on my strength training. I am going to make a strong attempt to ride 50 miles a week, but with temps above 100 most days, that will be hard for me.

OK everyone, what are yours? Tue, 15 Feb 2011 09:39:03 EST Finished Project -Tote I'm getting better at budgeting my time. Ever since joining SparkPeople, my quilting became a dormant activity. Most of my free time was involved with exercise. Although I don't regret it because of my weight loss, I missed quilting. So, with the help of SP, I learned how to budget my time to include at least an hour a week to work on projects. Today I completed a quilted heart tote bag. What fun. I'm 57, work as a nurse and have been quilting for several decades. I collect material and patterns and in the winter have at least 5 quilts going at a time. I get them laid out and thread 5 needles for each quilt. Every time I sit down, I quilt until the 5 needles are empty and then move to the next quilt for the next sitting. This way the quilts keep rotating and everytime I pick one up it feels new again. When the last needle is empty on the last quilt,... Fri, 18 Sep 2009 19:00:05 EST Question for the SP veterans I am having issues with this website saving my info. I feel like a kid in a candy shop! I have 2 tops almost done and just need to find the right binding. It has been so much fun making them but I'm anxious to start my next one. It is addictive. Thu, 29 Jan 2009 15:11:50 EST Hand or Machine Quilting? I'm just curious as to whether most of you quilt by hand or by machine, or both? Any pros and cons?
Lisa Sat, 24 Jan 2009 17:43:06 EST New quilter I am new to this team and new to quilting. I used to love jigzaw puzzles and then realized I could make quilts with those skills. I am so on the learning curve!

In other news I am an artist and photographer. My DH and I stay very active living on the Oregon Coast. Hope to meet others with like interest and motivation. Carol Sat, 24 Jan 2009 13:52:29 EST Hi all from Minnesota Just thought I would introduce myself, my name is Therese and I am from the Twin Cities. I live with my husband, three cats and a dog. I have been a quilter for about 4 years and have pictures on my Facebook page (email me privately and I will give you the link.) I currently sew on a Viking Designer 1 and a Bernina 440. I had Lap Band Surgery in Dec 07 and successfully lost 170lbs. Right before Thanksgiving, I had to have some of the restriction taken out and quickly gained 30lbs back. ... Tue, 20 Jan 2009 19:20:54 EST Hi from Colorado (but originally Kansas Jayhawk) I was very excited to see the quilting teams on this site. I've been quilting since 1999, but sewing since high school. The quilting bug just bit me. I even teach a few classes for a LQS. I've been to Houston 3 times but never to Paducah. I like most styles of quilting and have tried a bit of everything. I haven't found my one true style yet, though. Glad to be here. Look forward to new friends. Sharon Sat, 17 Jan 2009 01:58:54 EST Hi from CA Hi, I am new here, and just wanted to say Hi. I have been quilting for about 7 years, and love to bless others with my quilts. I hope to make some great quilty progress as well as get fit and more healthy this year.
Tonya Fri, 16 Jan 2009 17:33:45 EST Missouri quilter Hello, I am a quilter, I haven't done much lately because of working, but intend to get back at it, while I have time and am job searching. Sun, 11 Jan 2009 22:18:11 EST Hello from Colorado's Western Slope Quilting keeps me sane while adjusting to life's challenges. Recently I retired from a government job, moved from a ranch in Texas to manage a trucking company, relocating in the mountains of Colorado. Or to put it another way went from winter's 80 degrees to below zero.

Colorado is absolutely beautiful and my remote location has inspired me to complete a few of those UFOs. I've met some wonderful Colorado quilters, however, they're 60 miles away. Still I manage to meet with ... Tue, 6 Jan 2009 14:46:09 EST Diet tips With the beginning of a new year, lets take time to post some tips that have helped us towards our goal.

One of my favorite is to only eat at the table. Not in front of the TV, not while I cook, not as I pass thru the kitchen. Even snacks are placed on a plate and eaten with determination. I eat 5-6 times a day, small meals and snacks, so I eat about every 2-3 hours. It is much easier to tell myself to just wait, you get to sit down and eat in xx minutes.

Lets hear so... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 10:23:39 EST Happy "NEW" Year Hello quilting fans. I am looking forward to a new year. New and better health. A new grandchild in March. A new career path as well (? don't know what yet - am a former and burned out middle school teacher), and new friends, and new projects (getting organized and more quilting!). I turned 50 this year, and need some newness to my life. All advice is welcome! Fri, 2 Jan 2009 11:40:54 EST Happy New Year! January goals Here are my goals for January.

1) Eat 6 meals/snacks thruout the day
2) Eat more fruits and vegetables
3) No eating after dinner

What are yours? Thu, 1 Jan 2009 10:28:53 EST Hello from Ohio Hi Everyone,

My name is Stephanie and I've been quilting for almost 8 years. Unfortunately I've also gained about 50 pounds in these last 8 years. I have 2 main objectives for the upcoming year: Lose all these excess weight and work consistently on all the UFO's in my quilting room. I have so many quilts started and it has come to the point that my head hurts just thinking about all of them! My goal is to finish as many of them as I can within the next 2 years. I don't even have th... When the swatches get updated, the old outdated ones get thrown away. Or as happened with a different company we bought out: they get stuck in boxes in the back of their warehouse where they sit for years and years... Tue, 9 Dec 2008 23:15:42 EST Hello from North Carolina! Hi All. Just a quick note of introduction.

First, let's talk quilting. I took my first quilting class this past July and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! No one in my family ever quilted and I haven't sewn since I took a sewing class back in 1996. Thanks to a neighbor's mother who made a beautiful quilt and a few classes later, and I am now addicted.

Second, why I am here on SparkPeople. I have been a yo-yo dieter since high school and want to change for myself and for my f... Wed, 3 Dec 2008 11:05:27 EST block swap? Anyone interested in doing a block swap?
Any suggestions or ideas?
We could start the beginning of January so as to give you a chance to do a block. Wed, 3 Dec 2008 10:55:03 EST Greetings from Missouri I'm 39 years old and just started machine quilting. (I don't have enough patience to do it by hand) My husband bought me a Janome sewing machine a couple of years ago but I never really did anything with it.
I just finished my first quilt top!!!! It was a easy pattern and I used my husband's old flannel shirts and jeans for the squares. I thought since he bought me the machine he should get my first quilt! It's only taken me 6 months to finish the top. 2
I can't beli... Mon, 1 Dec 2008 09:16:39 EST Hello from TN Howdy ya'll,
My name is Debbie from TN . . . I'm so glad I found this team to join . . . I love anything to do with quilts and now I have quilt friends that will support me in my "get fit" journey. Wish me luck! Wed, 19 Nov 2008 14:32:32 EST Hello there from a newbie I have been a SP member for about 2 weeks and am still learning my way around. I have been quilting about 25 years (since my oldest was born). I come from a long line of quilters and have some from my great-grand mother. Not fancy, but precious to me. Most of my quilts are given away, mostly to co-workers who need some comfort. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

beverly Sun, 16 Nov 2008 20:39:10 EST What did you sew this weekend? I have been shut in for 3 days. I cleaned my quilt room. Put together my yellow 1930's row robin. Finished my sons quilt. Made 46 (9patch) for Calico Gardens quilt. Made a baby blanket from UFO "I spy patches" and finally I finished a quilt I started 2 eyars ago, but it was considered so UGLY that I put it away...LOL
You can see my work at:

I would love to see what you did this week~end! 247 Sat, 15 Nov 2008 23:43:44 EST GOALS Why, if this team has 500 members, there is only one leader and no goals for the month of November? This confuses me. Could someone answer, please? I thought I would sign up for a goal for this group and none were available. There certainly are a lot of new people who have joined. I hope no one gets lost in the shuffle. That would be sad as this could be as active and supportive as the other quilt groups. I will pray for this team. Vicki Tue, 11 Nov 2008 04:27:13 EST hey everyone! Hey! My name is Vickie I am 24 year old who needs to lose about 60 lbs. I love quilting, it is such a relaxing get away from my day! I am looking forward to being a part of this group! Sat, 8 Nov 2008 14:53:02 EST Row Robin Since there has been some discussion on this I thought I would start with a "poll" of sorts to get a feel:
I would like each person interested to answer these questions:

1. Do you want to do a Row Robin? (this is where you do a row, send it to the next person on the list, when you get it from the person behind you, you add another row and send it on giving the quilt a striped effect.)

2. Do you want rules? Such as the first row is triangles, the second is rectangles... Tue, 4 Nov 2008 18:22:21 EST I need a little help, PLEASE?! Hi everyone! Some of you may remember me from last winter/spring. I can give you my list of reasons why I've disappeared, but I won't. The good news is that most of my healthy habits have stuck since I've been less active on SP, and I did manage to lose a couple extra pounds over the summer.

Ok, so here's what I need some help with. I started school this fall and I have a speech that I'm writing at the moment. I'm writing my speech on quilting, since it is my favorite hobby! :) On... Sat, 1 Nov 2008 20:23:20 EST Hey Y'all! I'm Lynda and live in Northeast Georgia (about an hour north of Atlanta). I'm new to quilting - just finished my first class and am hooked! I'm in love with the fabrics and the wonderful quilting people I've run into so far.

I'm intimidated about the actual quilting process however -- I sent my class project to a long-arm machine quilter.

I need to lose about 50 pounds and want to do it once and for all (in other words, I've tried and succeeded at just about every di... Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:58:33 EST Hello from Canada 249
Hi all,
I love quilting too and often my work keeps from eating in the evenings ( this is my biggest hurdle to overcome). I have recently started a quilting blog so that I can share what I have learned. This is a personal blog and I hope that it's O.K. to mention it here.
You can find me at
Wed, 29 Oct 2008 18:22:43 EST Question about machine embroide I am so lost right now. The designs that came with my machine stitch out beautifully. I bought some designs on eBay, they don't stitch out horrible, but they arnt great either. It misses stitches, or seems to. It doesn't skip like in the middle of stitching a head of a character. I seems to skip around the edges. Could it be the fabric, that its too stretchy? I use flannel fabric and sometimes I get little fuzzy's in between the stitches. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? And do... Tue, 21 Oct 2008 12:29:45 EST
