SparkPeople Transgender Team Messageboard This group is dedicated to discussing fitness goals and offering motivation and support to the transgender community. SparkPeople Transgender Team Messageboard Dating Just putting this out there that I have a horrible time trying to date. I've only had one serious boyfriend and I kind of would like another, but I keep getting rejected and I don't even know why most of the time. It's frustrating and discouraging, and I was wondering if this is a common thing for transgendered people to deal with and if anyone has similar experiences? Wed, 13 Aug 2014 17:37:28 EST Howdy Howdy, my name is Dominic. I am a pre everything FTM man trying to get healthier in all areas of my life. I am stoked about eventually starting T, but I am putting that off till I am done applying to grad school.

I've technically been on Spark for three years but I've only really been involved about a month. I'm also in the Steer Queer group which is where I heard about this team.

If I had to say I want something specific, it would be help with motivation/mood. Wed, 16 Oct 2013 18:40:10 EST You can call me Lucas So, it appears I'm the new administrator. Let's get this party started.

A few things about me... I'm ftm transgender, and a senior at university. Transitioning was quite a wild ride, with not always having support, but things are pretty cool now. I fought my whole childhood to have short "boy" hair and finally got it in the 7th grade. Unfortunately, not in time for pictures. Ever since then I was known as the tomboy as they called them back then, or the lesbian as I hit high schoo... Thu, 29 Aug 2013 06:46:44 EST Tell us about yourself! I do not play it.
... Mon, 20 May 2013 22:53:03 EST Starting HRT Hi All,

I just started on a very small dose of Testim, a gel based testosterone. I'm only doing about 1/4 of a tube a day (appx 12.5mg a day). Part of the reason is that I'm not really looking to make a full transition--I find myself in the gender-queer range--so, we're starting very slow and titrating over time to see what feels most comfortable.

I'm mostly concerned because I've been working very hard on getting my weight to a healthy place--though my doctor said I'm l... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 12:41:35 EST What has been your success during the past 7 days? I haven't binged in an entire week. This is a huge victory for me. Have you accomplished anything this week? Mon, 4 Feb 2013 17:07:24 EST Leader? So, I see we still don't have a leader.

I did say at one point that I would try if nobody else volunteered, but I'm just wondering if anyone else is even considering it.

The thing is that I don't have home internet, and am unlikely to have it for quite a while (years?). I use the data from my cell phone to get online at home. I have 6GB of data, but that's by no means a lot for home internet use. SO I can try and lead this team, in addition to my other one, but I can... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 21:26:56 EST What are your goals? The New Year can't really be called "new" anymore. I think we've all finally gotten used to writing 2013 (or nearly). What resolutions did you start out with? How have they been modified in the past few weeks? How do these (if at all) apply to your weight-loss journey or your gender identity? There has been at least one motivating, boundry-pushing struggle on this forum. Let's hear some more! Sat, 26 Jan 2013 21:58:16 EST Gender and body metrics—what's your SP gender? You all no doubt know that many body metrics based around weight/fat/waist size/etc. are often different based on one's gender. I was wondering how you all navigate that.

As for me: I've been on testosterone for over a year and a half, so SparkPeople (and everything else I can "choose" my gender on) knows me as male. So far, that's worked out fine. I know it's probably estimating my calorie burns as higher and giving me more calories to eat than if I put my gender as female. I figu... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 09:00:44 EST Gender Neutral Gyms Hey, y'all!

I've recently moved, and had to switch gyms. This meant the process of finding genderqueer friendly gyms started all over! Out of the eight (!!!!) different gyms I tried out, only one had single-stall changing rooms or showers.

It was a chain gym, Anytime Fitness, so I wanted to recommend it if anyone was searching. I'd also be interested in hearing other people's experience with locker rooms. I can't be the only one paranoid about changing at a gym! ... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 21:44:25 EST Hi, I'm Ari! Almost 25 years old, FTM, pre-op and one month away from hormones.

Hi everyone! Wed, 14 Nov 2012 15:52:31 EST Lana Wow, you have to watch this.

She is fab!

uman-rights-campaign-visibility-winner
-382123 Sun, 28 Oct 2012 19:58:47 EST Mady's surgery So... Mady left for Montreal on Sept. 29, and will be coming home on Saturday. Healing always kind of sucks, but he seems to be doing well, and be reasonably happy with the results so far. He is staying in a residence next to the hospital that is exclusively for trans people undergoing surgery. He was one of only 2 boys there, and the other guy had phallo, whereas Mady had meta, so for them nobody else is going through the exact same thing, but they are still surrounded by trans people and... Thu, 11 Oct 2012 10:00:28 EST Book Recommendation A friend of my recommended a book and I haven't put it down since receiving it. The title is "Nina Here nor There (My Journey Beyond Gender)" and I highly recommend it. I have spent the past few nights barely sleeping because of the thought-provoking trans content. Here is the book blurb.

Ambitious, sporty, feminine "capital-L lesbians" had been Nina Krieger's type, for friends that is. Whooo! The down side? I'll be traveling this coming fall and have a fear that the application won't come through in time. I'm hoping this is a ridiculous fear to have. The website states 6-8 weeks but two of my friends have had to wait nearly 4 months for it to be returned to them!

In 6-weeks we (my sister and I) send in our application to travel through Iran as "two women." If it doesn't get approved I'll be sending in... Wed, 18 Jul 2012 22:22:53 EST New to Spark Hi everyone,

I'm a 42 yr old FTM who is looking to jump start his motivation and drive in general, and for weight loss specifically. I used to do these long distance bicycle tours on my own but since taking on a job that has me travelling a lot (I can be on the road anywhere from a week to 3 weeks in a row).

I had added the Spark book to my Kindle app and had started reading it and noticed that in the opening intro that there was a constant mention of the SparkPeople we... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 17:11:51 EST Lucas & Skye One of my two favourite trans men, Lucas Silveira, proposed to his gf at Toronto Pride during his show after the trans march! Did it right on stage in front of everyone after performing a song together. So cute. I couldn't believe I missed it. This is the first year I haven't been there in ages. I'm so happy and excited for him to have found someone to spend his life with. Less than a year ago he was telling us about really bad blind dates and how he'd just about given up. Now he's eng... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 21:46:25 EST News Hey,

I thought y'all would be interested to hear that my hubby has had his bottom surgery scheduled!
He has a consult in Montreal in August and then he'll be back there for the surgery at the beginning of October. He is excited but I think he's also nervous. I'll go to the consult if possible but he doesn't want me to go with him for the surgery itself. He'll be there a week or two so I'll likely visit, but that's it. I'm thankful for the location of our new home - almost ... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 21:31:38 EST New Team Leader wanted... I'm leaving. It's been great, but it's time for someone new. Fri, 29 Jun 2012 11:33:26 EST On the Grand Jury I've been honored to be picked for the 2012-2013 grand jury for my county. The grand jury doesn't decide on court cases, like a regular jury. We are an investigative body into the functioning of cities and the county. I'm getting a cram course on civics right now, talking to mayors, supervisors, the sheriff, health services, and on and on. It feels good to "give back" to my community and be a good citizen.

I'm sure I'm not the first transsexual to serve, but I'm very honored. Tue, 19 Jun 2012 09:49:09 EST one month I took a hands off on writing any topics, to see if anyone would participate. Guess not!

This SparkTeam can only be as good as what you put into it. Please don't wait for me to post something of interest. Share what is going on in your life, your journey. You could open a discussion others may be experiencing too. Mon, 11 Jun 2012 11:23:16 EST Laura Jane Grace Today a Rolling Stone article came out about how Tom Gabel, lead singer of Against Me! had come out as trans and will be taking the name Laura Jane Grace. While I'm not surprised (if you've ever heard the song "Ocean", you wouldn't be either!), I am very proud of her for coming out publicly right at the beginning of her transition. It took guts and she will likely suffer some backlash. It's a wonderful thing to have such a well-known artist come out, she will be able to be an inspiration f... Wed, 9 May 2012 23:02:31 EST My Spark-a-versary I've been on Sparkpeople 4 years! I've lost 50 pounds, gained some of it back, learned a lot about nutrition, met some interesting people, and had a place to log my fitness and eating.

How long have you been on Sparkpeople?

--Drake Sat, 21 Apr 2012 17:22:24 EST Camping When I was in high school and into my 20's I was a backpacker. Then I got introduced and spoiled with 4 wheeling with friends. You could take a cooler! Now I'm in my late 50's and we camp in a pop up trailer.

We're heading to Big Sur for a whole week starting Sunday. This will be our first time "off the grid". There will be no power or water. I am so looking forward to this.

Making breakfast burritos today to freeze. I still have two more dinners to make before Saturda... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 11:33:32 EST Come out to play I've been on SparkPeople since the middle of February and was so stoked to find a Trans team. Since I've been around, this team has been pretty quiet, so I'm posting this just to say hello (insert echoing "hello...hello...hello... right about here) and to invite anyone else who's been wishing to see a little more activity here to come out of the woodwork and *be* the activity we wish to see (to mangle an overused quote).

I'm not usually much of a joiner, but I just would so love to... Sat, 7 Apr 2012 13:28:35 EST Back again! I've been gone for the week, bak from a week long camping trip. This was another of my "wine safari" to visit far flung wine regions on the west coast. This time it was to central California, around Paso Robles. Came back with 9+ cases that now have to be cataloged and racked. My wine cellar just gets better all the time! I sincerely doubt anyone cares, but it is one of my little life enjoyments. Mon, 5 Mar 2012 11:32:58 EST Blue Striped Love Story! Lately I've been obsessed with James Cameron's Avatar So I've also been writing a fan-fiction , (pg) GAY love story featuring me as Ateyo, a blue-skinned striped Na'vi and a human helicopter pilot, which is actually my Brie. The story is well received and I am writing a new chapter evey night! Would I be considered part of the trans community? Similarly, can a straight person who is heavily involved with the LGBTQ community be considered a part of the community?

Mady recently made some comments that made me think about this and I am curious how other people will see these questions. I never really thought about it much before. Sat, 11 Feb 2012 00:58:09 EST GENDER-BENDER MODEL?
IDK but she looks like a she to me. I remember when Diane Keaton started wearing vests ties and fedoras and everyone was aghast. Perhaps none of her male modeling shots were shown. What I find noteworthy is that he doesn't feel the need to be surgically defined as one gender or the other.
I've never paid attention to models. Mon, 6 Feb 2012 12:40:24 EST Use of "tranny"... Does context change how offensive it is? I feel that it does, but here's where this question comes from:

"Poll: if Lucas Silveira (or any other well-known trans man) says "tranny", within the context of "follow my trans friends on twitter #trannythursdays", do you consider it offensive? Just curious to get opinions of ppl who may not already be in this convo on FB and Twitter." Thu, 19 Jan 2012 16:12:18 EST Bad weather... For much of the continent the winter weather has hit. What do you do for exercise?

It has been uncommonly dry for us in northern California, but the rain will start tomorrow. I have an exercise bike in the basement with a bench and hand weights. I'll miss the beautiful weather, but we get all our water for the year over the winter. We are currently at only 10% on normal. No more walks (I need better rain gear). Wed, 18 Jan 2012 11:19:05 EST What is your resolution? Well it's 10 days into a New Year and so many people have come out with New Year's Resolutions. Have you made any? How about some fitness goals? Or even little things in your personal life.

Here are a few of mine:
-Be a little cleaner
-Get a passport
-Knit a blanket
-Run a 5k+ every 4 months
-Be able to do pushups (I'd settle for one right now) Tue, 10 Jan 2012 15:20:01 EST Hello Hello everyone!

I am Justin, not so new to Spark, but new to posting and networking here. I just started transitioning and have gained a bit of weight, mostly due to a lack of time for the gym and my increasing appetite.

I have recently had a food allergy test and found out I am gluten, dairy, chicken, egg and meat intolerant and guess what I've been eating!!!! So I am starting a new diet plan and things are challenging, but still going well. I am looking forward to th... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 19:36:03 EST Early new year wishes... Happy New Year to you all. On the upside - I've only got to come "out" at work now and then I can be me full time!

So, I didn't do too bad with my weight since I've been on hiatus - I only gained 2 lbs and I think I've been off SP for like...umm...maybe 3 months??? However, I want to put a plan in place for chest reconstruction and I would feel MUCH more comfortable... Tue, 27 Dec 2011 15:44:55 EST Howdy! Hello everyone, my name is Sean. Brie and I are sticking to ourselves (literally? nevermind!) We spend our evenings with our friend Mo who is straight and age 73, but he is like a Dad to me, and he and Sabrina were both Majors in the Army. We will have dinner with him. Brie doesn't like Christmas trappings, too commercial and family oriented. ISo I have become complacent. We will play it by ear. I'll call my Mom and visit with her over the phone for a few hours. Right now I'm beginning to paint some simple gifts and send h... Thu, 8 Dec 2011 11:38:20 EST Police Some of you likely have seen coverage of the recent tazing of a transwoman in California. The video shows her with her hands in the air when the rangers shoot her abdomen with the tazer. Several seconds later, when she is on the ground and the rangers are wrestling her, they shoot her again, this time in the genitals.

Michelangelo Signorile had a good blog about increasing violence by police against trans people.

lo-signorile/... I don't know who Bethany Black is. Fri, 18 Nov 2011 12:45:49 EST Heroes For some reason, I seem to keep hearing people saying "don't meet your heroes" lately. I get that the idea is that they can't live up to your expectations, but I keep thinking that it really depends on why they're your hero in the first place, how much you know about them, and how willing you are to accept that they are only human.

All this led me to this topic: Who are your heroes? Why? Have you ever met a hero? If so, how was your experience? Either way, do you think that it... Thu, 17 Nov 2011 23:54:43 EST ALTERNATIVE SEX IN THE AGE OF STEAM I found this intriguing article that I just HAD to share:

1/10/ffanother-way-to-love-glbt-cultur
e-in.html#more
://
/10/ffanother-way-to-love-glbt-culture
-in.html#more
Wed, 16 Nov 2011 21:33:47 EST Tennessee can't have it both ways A transwoman in Tennessee was arrested for indecent exposure after being denied changing her gender marker on her driver's license to F. Wed, 16 Nov 2011 11:10:46 EST SURVIVAL TACICS As transgendered people, we have to cope with being shunned because of our differentness.
And a lot of us have adapted to the onslaught of rejection by over-eating. If we try to blend-in with the crowd, we are accused of being imposters, masquerading as straight people. I am FTM, and started transition about six years ago, but don't take testosterone anymore. I want to lose weight so I can breathe better and to make chest surgery easier. Mon, 24 Oct 2011 17:51:39 EST I'm just Curious I wonder something. How many of you have had your faith, or self worth shattered by a Bible
thumping Anti Gay Zelot, or worse yet, Family member?
Do you know that David, just before he acended to the throne of Israel was an ACTIVE BISEXUAL, and the BIBLE spends several chapters proving it?
But GOD STILL gave David the crown of Israel, and CALLED DAVID a Man after HIS own heart?
Remember that when someone tells you that you are a worthless Queer in GOD'S eyes.
Sat, 22 Oct 2011 23:18:08 EST Let's talk about hair Hey everyone.

Just for fun, I wanted to throw out a question about hair. For those of you who have transitioned hormonally, did you notice any changes in your hair, esp. texture?

Before I transitioned, I had the straightest hair in the world. Now, I have much more texture. Cowlicks emerged from nowhere. I even have curls around my sideburns. And my hair is much more course to the touch.

Any hair-related observations out there?

--Drake Sat, 22 Oct 2011 21:17:39 EST Is it too early if you really know?

3345/TheCalifornia-boy-11-undergoing-h
ormone-blocking-treatment.html#ixzz1ZZ8HtN6R

So the question is: Is it too early for medical corrective measures if, as a child, you really KNOW?
As a child, I knew I was a girl. I am pretty sure I set my profile to public or whatever it's called, so if you wanna know more about me, feel free to check that out :) I can't say how excited I was to see that there was a trans team on here. My other half, "Tee" joined Spark People last night, and joined the Artists Team. (She is a Christian Artist). This morning, she started her own Blog Journal, (I don't have a blog, and I've been here a while). She may join this team as well, we will see.
Brie Wed, 10 Mar 2010 13:11:17 EST How do I tell my trainer my FTM goals? I am new to SP although I meant to join almost a year ago...I guess you say I procrastinate very well when it comes to taking care of myself. Anyways, I researched two gyms today and I am going back to one of them on Friday to meet with a trainer to discuss training packages (I hate that they can't just give you a simple price). At this meeting we are to take body measurements, weight, and talk about my personal goals and target areas. As a pre-op, pre-t FTM living in a very conservative area... Mon, 25 Jan 2010 22:44:16 EST Hullo Hey y'all, thought i'd introduce myself. I guess I fall somewhere between genderqueer and FTM - I don't identify on any particular binary, I just roll with whatever strangers peg me as. Have had top surgery and am on T tho as without that I can't achieve the middle of the road appearance that I feel inside.

Both the surgery and the hormones have really motivated me to get my self in shape. Sort of like i've been spending all this time working on my internal emotional self and ident... Tue, 12 Jan 2010 10:05:32 EST Workout Music Hey everyone, I am a huge lover of music and am always looking for new people or music that I may not have remembered or thought about in awhile. So I am curious to what other people favorite songs, artists, and/or genre's are to workout to.

Nena
Kill Bill Soundtracks
Bob Dylan
John Mellancamp
The Doors
and a whole mix of artists the the country, pop, and rock genre's.
Pretty much anything that has a solid beat or superb lyrics. Fri, 8 Jan 2010 05:17:52 EST Team Goals Hi all! I disappeared for a time here, and having received my copy of The Spark, decided that I needed to redefine my goals and work on getting back the motivation I once had. I've given myself a fresh start and took a minute to evaluate where I may have fallen off course.
I would love to see this group come up with some Team Goals, beyond drinking 8 cups of water a day. I would love to see this group become more of a group, more involved with each other. I am sure there are common goal... Wed, 6 Jan 2010 12:19:54 EST BMI and Other This may seem like a stupid question, but I have no idea. The main thing I have is, being mtf and having been on hormones for four and a half years, I am curious to what influence that would have in calculating my BMI. Everywhere I have ever measured it being 6' BMI calculators say I should weigh around 150ish. There is no way that I could get to that weight without being anorexic. A long time ago I went to Curves and joined them. The trainers/attendents/or whatever they were called, wer... Wed, 6 Jan 2010 05:17:36 EST Hi Everyone Hi!
My name is Kayleigh and I am 26 years old and an MTF transsexual. I am currently an undergrad student at the University of Utah. My biggest motivation for needing to lose weight is that I am having SRS in May and need to be below 210 lbs and want to be below 200. I have tried a thousand times to get into a routine but kept failing at it after a couple of days. With the turn of the year and the beginning of something new, I realized that my deadline is much nearer then it looked b... Mon, 4 Jan 2010 05:38:37 EST Hello new here Hi my name is Theresa. I am not transgender but my wonderful boyfriend is. He is ftm. We went to high school together and 18 years later I was looking for "her" on myspace. All I found was a hot guy with same name. It wasn't till a week later when talking to another mutual friend I learned that there were changes lol. We have been together almost 2 years. I was shocked that i fell so hard as i am very straight. He is just wonderful and love him more than anything. My kids love him too. He wa... Sat, 26 Dec 2009 04:15:31 EST I have been named as an administrator of this team Hey everyone, I have been named as an administrator of this team, and I would LOVE to see this team really take off, not just with it's traffic, but in it's acchievement of both team, and individual goals that each of our members hold dear. I know from personal experience, that this gender journey that we are on, either we, ourselves, or, our loved ones, can be either maddening, or depressing at times. When those times come to us, we need to "let our hair down" among friends, where we know we... Tue, 8 Dec 2009 13:40:55 EST Hello All! Hi! I'm not trans, but my man is! (FTM)
He is starting his transition and along with that comes some weight loss and gain and so I am joining SP to meet resources and people that can help both he and I as we go on this journey together. We are both late 20's with about 100 lbs to lose and we need all the support we can get! Thanks so much! Mon, 23 Nov 2009 12:35:03 EST Transgender Day of Remembrance

As the weather gets colder I always start thinking about TDOR. I live in a University town and every year the students of the Spectrum center put something on for the local community. It's been getting smaller and smaller the last few years that I've gone and this year I'm going to see about becoming involved.

Every year I make a new resolution on this day - it's really more like a re-commitment. I challenge myself to come out to... Wed, 7 Oct 2009 03:20:44 EST Most difficult goal/Where you excel Hello again! It's nice to see the huddles already started by the time I stop in here. Exciting.

Thought I might start a new topic and get a little something something started. You know, have a little fun in the forum kind of deal.

We are all on here for many reasons some of which we have in common with a lot of folks and some that are a little more unique to come across. Well, I'm curious to hear what everyones most difficult goal to reach is (or was - way to go you!) ... Fri, 2 Oct 2009 21:13:59 EST Hello, Hello, Hello! Hello!

I must say I was really excited that this group existed. Just spent a bit checking it out, and kind of bummed that it's not so active. So - I huddled. That's right, I did it. And I plan on coming back and doing it again too. Watch for it - hey maybe you could even participate in it.

I am new to the SP site and trying to put myself out there, keep up on my trackers and keep a close eye on my goals and such. Fri, 22 May 2009 11:35:07 EST New Logo How do you like the new logo? Fri, 1 May 2009 20:37:42 EST Hi there :) Hey there

Thought I would introduce myself. My name is Troy and I have been on sparkpeople for awhile but not really sticking with it. Generally I just use this site to track my food but now I am starting to track other things as well. I used to be really into trying to build muscle as well as lose weight but I have decided to really for now just focus on losing weight and then putting the muscle back on.

So about me... im 24, live in Oregon, go to school, work, and d... Wed, 8 Apr 2009 12:52:14 EST Lost seven pounds last week Hey folks,I weighed myself this morning, and I am now down to 223 pounds. I lost seven pounds last week, and now my jeans are falling off of me. Looks like I'm now in size 18's. This is why I don't use the small cement mixer that I have, but rather mix it by hand in a wheelbarrow with a shovel. THAT will do a number on your core muscles. Brie Wed, 8 Apr 2009 00:42:59 EST Whagt have you done today to make you feel PROUD? Today I ran several bushels of yard waste through the chipper/shredder and stirred it into the compost barrels. Wed, 1 Apr 2009 13:58:42 EST Hi from Salt Flats, Texas Hi everyone, My name is Sabrina, "Brie" for short. I am 59, retired Army, and live on 80 acres with my own airstrip in extreme west Texas.
I was born a Hermaphrodite in 1950, and back then, parents were given the choice as what they wanted. My father being Career Navy wanted a "boy" so I received a unique peritoneal scar at a week or so of age. Too bad they guessed WRONG as decades later was discovered by genetic testing.
I knew what my true situation was from the age of toddler h... Tue, 31 Mar 2009 15:14:41 EST Starting over I've been looking at these posts here, and some of them are quite elderly. I've removed some of the sticky notes status and eventually these old postings will be cleared out by the new posts. I think that turned some people away seeing posts over two years old. So together we'll try to resurrect this site. Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:17:41 EST Success stories What have you accomplished today that made you feel good? Wed, 25 Mar 2009 11:22:36 EST Participate! This has to be the quietest SparkTeam on the board. Why don't we be more vocal about our issues, and our goals? C'mon people!

I'm still adjusting to a healthier diet and making changes to realize it. I haven't yet even addressed the exercise part because I hate to exercise. I'd like to join a gym, but the thought of it really frightens me. I'm post-op mtf, but I let my body go to hell after my surgery and now I'm obese. I am reluctant to join a gym (and go!) because of my body. I'... Wed, 11 Mar 2009 12:29:25 EST Getting healthy...again Hi Everyone! I'm a post op MtF. I've always been a large person and to qualify for my surgery I had to lose 130 pounds. I did it with a physician monitored liquid fast. That was last year and now I've put about half of the weight back on. I am going to change that now. I will focus on my diet and exercise levels. I'm very happy to talk to others in our community. We do have "other" issues that is difficult to sometimes talk about with people who've never had to question their birth gender. Wed, 4 Mar 2009 11:18:34 EST Say Hello Hey everybody!

Whenever you check into this team, post a note here to say hey! Then people will know that folks do check in to this team, and you get 3 points every time!

--Drake Mon, 23 Feb 2009 00:24:00 EST Hi every one. I'm new to the group. I'm a pre-op, pre-t transman. I'm here trying to lose some weight for my health since I'm disabled. I'm hoping to get my top surgery this year. It's a start I'm looking forward to.

20 Thu, 22 Jan 2009 17:56:30 EST January 27 : Equality on Campus Day After the initial out cry re: prop 8, it may have seemed like the energy for marriage equality has lessened somewhat. However, January 27th is National Equality on Campus day. On this day, students at High Schools and Colleges across the country, will all wear the same tee-shirt, to increase visibility and awareness re: equal rights particularly marriage equality.
You don't have to be a student in order to support "National Equality on Campus Day", you can purchase a tee-shirt and wear ... Wed, 14 Jan 2009 10:24:27 EST Hello New to the Group Hello Everyone:
I am the partner of transgender MTF. It is so encouraging to see this Sparkteam. In a nutshell, here is my story . . . about 3 years ago, I lost 80 pounds, was exercising, ran several half marathons. Then due to an extremely stressful time in my life, I started smoking (a habit I gave up for 8 years), started stress and emotional eating, and hey, if your doing all that, then you might as well not exercise either. So, I found myself, unfit, out of breath, stinking lik... Tue, 13 Jan 2009 13:53:13 EST Hi My name is Dana and I'm from Baltimore. I was turned on to SparkPeople by the nutritionist that my doctor sent me too.

I'm fifty something and I've been transitioning for ten months. My primary goals are nutritional.

I need to lose twenty pounds too. But right now I'm mostly concerned with tracking what I eat so I can share it with my doctor on my next visit and plan from there.

Peace,
Dana Sat, 3 Jan 2009 12:24:10 EST Hi all! I'm new to the group, here for support and understanding more than anything else. My partner is just recently coming to the realization that she is transgendered. I am being as supportive as possible because I love her, er him (sorry, haven't gotten used to that just yet), but I really don't understand what he's going through. I'm hoping some of you on this group can help me understand what I can do to help him through this transition and make it as easy as possible for both of us (if that's ... Sat, 6 Dec 2008 18:51:20 EST weight loss for non-health reasons? Depending on how much of a pessimistic attitude you want, it seems that losing weight can be almost pointless. One seems to realize that one cannot escape fate, and if fate weaves one into the wrong body, what other options does one have?

There's always that thought in the back of one's mind; it seems that everyone sees through the disguise and depending on their level of politeness may choose to not cooperate. When one is passing, is it not merely an act of politeness on the oth... Sun, 30 Nov 2008 22:12:19 EST Salutations Hello all,

I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm an MTF from Michigan. I'm hoping to lose some weight so I can start going full time except work. It's embarrassing to have a gut lol. Plus I've been thin once before and I think I'll be pretty hot, which is my overall goal. Mon, 29 Sep 2008 19:15:01 EST New here! Hey! I'm new here.. I'm 24 years old.

I've resisted starting to lose weight for a long time because I'd rather be fat then curvy. But then after looking at some pictures I realized that if I lost weight my BOOBS would get SMALLER!

Plus I want to learn how to do running.

Hope to meet you all soon Sat, 20 Sep 2008 23:16:39 EST New Guy! I'm David, a 40 year old ftm (preop, but for financial reasons alone- I changed over fulltime at 18, and have been on Testosterone most of that time).

I'm happily handfasted (=married, till they make that legal in my state anyway!) to a partner of 10+ years, and we share our home/lives with two cats, a dog, and a horse.

I'm surprised there is a transgroup here, and almost passed it by- but then I realized that there might be some interesting issues that TG's face, in wei... Sat, 20 Sep 2008 04:25:17 EST Newbie What's up everyone I'm Zack, 22 and pre-op ftm however been on testosterone for a while now. Been battling weight loss stuff for YEARS... my mother is convinced that if I was thin, I wouldn't "feel the need" to be trans. Sigh. Lotsa issues. I'm having surgery in July and would like to lose some weight before then and then MORE weight after but seem to lose motivation... I was on this site over a year ago!!!! Anyhooooooozles, I hope to be back into sparkpeople and doing well.. :% I hope. Rafi Sun, 18 May 2008 20:40:49 EST Hello everyone Hi all,

I'm joining Sparkpeople to get fit and stay fit. I'm FtM and just started on T last month. I'm really trying to get my weight down, work out, and feed my body good healthy foods while I'm transitioning.

This group doesn't seem very active, but I hope someone responds to my post!

--Drake Fri, 2 May 2008 09:12:32 EST introduction Hi, I'm Angel. I've been on this team for a while, but I haven't introduced myself yet. I joined spark as a way to make sure I was getting enough nutrition while dieting.

I had successfully lost weight and kept it off pre-hormones. Three years ago, I started taking estrogen and progesterone, and it became very difficult for me to not eat things. My willpower with food just wasn't there as much. I gained 50 pounds my first year of hormones, and then it leveled off.

... Thu, 7 Feb 2008 10:14:10 EST Movies/sh ows/books with transgender people? I'm just curious if anyone knows of some good resources that include transgender people? Maybe we can compile a nice list of titles! I love to read and have read several books about gay issues or with gay characters, but not many with trans people.

I just watched a documentary series (got it from Netflix) called "Transgeneration" and it follows four college students in their transitions. Two are MTF and two are FTM. Very interesting and emotional.

A book I've read: "She'... Mon, 28 Jan 2008 01:57:02 EST Hello everyone Hi everyone.. just joined and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm not trans but I do have major body issues relating to sexuality (at least that's how I feel about it). I am a lesbian and have always been uncomfortable with my body, even when I weighed 130 which is now my goal weight. One of my main things is hoping my boobs will shrink down, even though I am about a B cup I wish I was an AAAAAAA... so yeah, I've had issues for awhile about wanting to be able to look boyish and pass for being m... I live in Portland Maine with my partner of almost 18 years. I am pre-op pre-T. Just started the "official" long journey by getting a Therapist. I have known my whole life, 51 years that this body and spitit didn't match. My starting weight loss goal is 50lbs. I want to be lighter before top removal. I understand it is safer that way. My long term goal is to get down to 145lbs, and be a fit gentelman.
I didn't know a trans group exsisted I thought I'd try to start o... Thu, 29 Nov 2007 23:18:25 EST Community News Thread I thought it might be a good idea to start a transgender community news thread. :) We all share common goals, both in our histories and in our unification to a fitter lifestyle. Hopefully, some of these posts will allow everyone to stay in touch with community, whether it involves transgender news or health articles... or... articles on transgender health.

With the passing of a trans-uninclusive ENDA, November has been a hard month for the transgender community. If I were younger I guess one could call me a Boichick? I'm also a gramma (hard to believe by my photo.) and an avid motorcyclist. I've struggled with weight loss for the past 20 years after having back surgery and quitting smoking. Sugar addiction and obesity run in my family. I was on 'T'/hormones for 2 years, which made my efforts to lose weight interesting. Have... Mon, 30 Jul 2007 23:07:45 EST hello hey y'all I'm Dan, I'm 25, no-op FTM kickin it in LA. I'm tryin to get into some good habits while I'm still a young buck. I work with LGBTQ young people so I feel like I should try to be a decent role model and take good care of myself. I'm also getting married (!!!!) and have been thinking more about the long-term - I want to be able to take care of myself and my honey for a long time, and that means staying in good health. So now seems like a good time to start.

I also have som...
