SparkPeople Lost It During a Deployment Team Messageboard For military spouses who are left at home and wanting to lose weight while their soldier is deployed. Also for those who have had success in this endeavor and can encourage those going through it! SparkPeople Lost It During a Deployment Team Messageboard Funniest thing ever So funny thing. Hubby is being moved to Kabul. Its a huge joke around our house that he married me, a former Marine. So he finds out that in Kabul, he is working for a MGYSGT. A MARINE!!! HAHAHAHA. He is NOT impressed. Personally I think its hilarious. Maybe this will help him to understand me better! Tue, 25 Oct 2011 07:45:34 EST Stupid relocations Well, hubby is relocating again. Its amazing how many times they are going to move him. I guess he's going to Kabul but when and for how long remains to be seen. The address changes are getting hard to keep up with! First, I want to apologize to any of our team members who have felt I have abandoned the team over the past couple of months. I haven't been a very active team leader, and I'm sorry. From now on, I'd like to change things and become a more active leader. That being said, I need to know one thing from our team members: What would you like to see happening on our team?

If you have ideas for challenges, discussion topics, forum changes, or anything else, please let me know either in t... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 11:51:49 EST Hello & Happy Holidays Finally ready to introduce myself :) I joined on 12/5/2010 and have just been lurking behind the scenes. It's been incredible reading all the success stories, tips and blogs. There's so much inspiration and hope which I've been desperately needing. I'm 60 plus pounds overweight and I'm ready to loose it in a healthy and realistic way. I was going to wait until the new year to "start" but why postpone living a healthy lifestyle. This has been a serious test on me... I figure if I can get ... Wed, 22 Dec 2010 07:30:15 EST Hi all - eager to join the group My husband (AD Army) just left for a year long deployment to Afghanistan. He did a year in Korea, and 15 months in Iraq so the separation is nothing new for us. He has been in for 6 years and we currently live in Germany (our 3rd duty station together, his 4th). We both turn 29 in January, and we will be married 5 years in June. We have no kids yet, just 2 dogs.

I currently work full time, but my job is temporary. I will be out of work in a few days, and I plan to use the ti... Sun, 12 Dec 2010 12:10:26 EST Hi everyone!!! Looking for some friends/ battles My boyfriend tells his soldiers "Never go anywhere without your Battle." He has a good point.

I need a Battle. A Battle to get me through this deployment, and to help me fight the war against the waistline. Although a well-known adversary here in the US, not one people usually wage war against. Then again, I am not your usual person.

My boyfriend is currently in garrison, preparing for his 6th overseas tour in 8 years. However, this is our first together. There are a fe... Thu, 9 Dec 2010 14:14:59 EST December 2010 Challenge Welcome to the December challenge for the Lost It During a Deployment team. This month, our focus will be motivation and wellness. The holidays are an especially difficult time for many families with a deployed loved one, so even if you do not opt to participate in this month’s challenge, I urge each you to take a moment at least once this month to send a word of encouragement to another team member.

This challenge will be point-based. Please reply to this post if you would like t... Wed, 1 Dec 2010 00:29:38 EST Hello Hi everyone.

I'm a newly married military spouse. We got married in May and my husband has just deployed on October 30. This is our first deployment, mine as a spouse and his as a service member.

I'm working to lose weight while he is gone. I'd like to lose about 50lbs while he is gone. I've been walking 2-3 miles a day with my best friend and doing dance workouts afterwards. I'm trying to work my way up to running because I'd like to run with my husband when he return... Thu, 11 Nov 2010 14:42:16 EST Hi Hello, I am not a wife of a deployed soldier but rather a mom with both her daughter and son inlaw deploying very soon. I am staying home with their two boys.

I am looking to lose 50 lbs during the time they are away. Working more at staying healthy and strong to take care of the little guys.

I am hoping also to find and give support to those of us holding down the home fronts.

Thanks. Thu, 7 Oct 2010 13:01:40 EST New Team Leader Hi, everyone! When I joined this team, I received an inactive team leader notification. I applied to take on a team leader position and was added as a leader today.

As I said in my intro post upon joining the team, my husband is deployed at the moment (his third tour of a year or more, the second since our marriage, the first since our son was born).

Anyway, I'm a stay-at-home mom, and I'm hoping to lose about 50 pounds before my husband comes home next year. I travel a... Tue, 5 Oct 2010 14:37:54 EST Losing It During Deployment #3 Hi, everyone!

My husband is AD Army and recently departed for deployment #3. Having been through this before, I know a big part of survival is staying busy and setting goals for myself. During his last deployment, I started graduate school, but this time around, we have a toddler (my R&R present from last time), and I'm a stay-at-home mom with 50 extra pounds. So that's my focus.

I started making progress with Spark at the beginning of 2010 when I got fed up with myself... Sat, 2 Oct 2010 15:41:42 EST September 2010 Check In Who's still around? Let's do a quick check-in to find out and maybe find others to connect with.

I'm Sarah. My goal weight is 150lb, but then again a number isn't the ultimate goal. If I'm happy with myself at 160, then so be it! I won't push myself to reach some number knowing that it doesn't reflect health or anything else. My husband is deployed currently with the Air Force. Hopefully before he comes home I can be the hot wife he used to know. Wed, 22 Sep 2010 11:39:34 EST Hey everyone Hi everyone. My name is Donna and I'm a 23 year old Navy wife. My husband is currently on his third deployment and I seem to believe I'll lose weight and look better by the end of every deployment. I want this time to be it. He should be back in approximately 7 months and I'm hoping to get in such good shape that he won't recognize me. I know I have enough time to do it. I just need to be consistent and stay motivated. Sat, 4 Sep 2010 22:58:09 EST Hello from Camp Lejeune, NC Hi! My name is Nikki! I am 25 years old, Marine Wife and SAHM to 2 energetic kids (son 4, daughter almost 18 months old). My husband recently deployed and I am determined to lose the extra weight that has been on my body WAY TO LONG. I have over 100 lbs to lose.. While I know I might not lose that much during the deployment I certainly am going to do my best to lose as much as I can. I just started the C25K program and moving extra during the day with my kids. I plan on going to the gym ... Thu, 5 Aug 2010 23:51:44 EST Hello Hi everyone. My DH is overseas on his first deployment (only has 3 more yrs left before his 20!!)
and I am trying to lose weight while he is gone. He is now past the halfway mark and I have lost 5 pounds. Got to say wow how the time really does fly after those first few months! So I hope to lose at least 40 pounds before he comes home :) Wed, 21 Jul 2010 16:34:43 EST Hi y'all! My name is Dulcinea. Fri, 9 Jul 2010 17:23:41 EST Hello from New England Hey there,

Well, my husband recently deployed and I am attempting to lose as much weight as possible before he gets back. I have a little over a year to do this. I'm looking forward to this journey, thanks for joining me. Mon, 10 May 2010 17:03:23 EST Hi From Maine! Hi,

my name is Dana and I have a 21 month old daughter. My husband is currently a Recruiter (luckly no deployments, but still VERY long hours)in Maine. We went through two deployments so far. In 2006(deployment) I discovered Turbo Jam (DVD), I think working out really helped with staying sane. It was great to punch and kick and get rid of the frustration. And it was fun and helped me to lose the few extra pounds. Another thing that helped me during deployment I volunteered and jus... Tue, 20 Apr 2010 13:22:13 EST Care Package Ideas? Hello! My bf has just started his 6 month deployment and I'm gathering things to send his way. Sat, 17 Apr 2010 12:54:49 EST Hello from Fort Campbell My name is Jacque and my husband deployed in February. He comes home in October for R&R and I would like to have lost 40 lbs by then. It'll take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, but I know I can do it. I have two beautiful, very energetic children 4 and 2. I'm going to school online and trying to keep as busy as possible, so time will go by fast. This is my husbands third deployment and it's our second together. I'm prior military, so I don't get too upset with the issues t... Fri, 9 Apr 2010 17:12:21 EST Greetings from Texas! Hey everyone! My fiance is on his way to Iraq at this very moment for a 6 month deployment. This is our first deployment and there are so many mixed emotions. I've got about 15 lbs to goal and I want to lose the lbs for good and maintain it. As soon as he gets back we're pcsing to Randolph in San Antonio. I'm always looking for buddies and any advice is welcome. Have a great day! Mon, 5 Apr 2010 12:28:37 EST Ft. Riley Deployment Hi everyone! I think I found the perfect team : ) My husband just deployed the beginning of March and returns next March 2011. I am a stay at home mom of a 7 year old and a 6 month old and a full time online student. So I stay pretty busy. I'm hoping to meet some weight loss buddies and get started on my weight loss journey! ... Sun, 4 Apr 2010 19:20:59 EST April 2010 Chat Hey: I come to this team periodically to see if anyone is here. I love the concept of supporting each other in our weight loss goals while our husbands are deployed...but there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity. So...starting this thread to see if anyone is still interested. My husband has been deployed since August 2009. My goal was to try to lose about 50 lbs...but I got depressed and ate instead. I'm new to the group, obviously. lol

We're currently stationed at Ft Drum, NY, and hubby is getting ready to deploy. I was planning to use his absence to get myself back into shape, but it was given a certain sense of urgency when he had to take me to Urgent Care this past weekend to discover that I have High Blood Pressure. Have to get my weight down for my health. So, that's what I'm planning to do.

Anyway, just wanted to say "hi" to everyone. Hop... Wed, 24 Mar 2010 07:17:31 EST Hey from TN Hello all. We recently PCS'd from Germany to a nice place in TN. We're getting a head start on the deployment as my husband is on a 6-mos TDY (different post/state) enroute to a deployment.

This is our first deployment as a married couple. Individually we have several under our belts (I'm Air Force Reserves) but it's different when you're the one left behind.

I'm 5-lbs ahead and have 15 to go! Sun, 14 Mar 2010 13:12:13 EST Intro from Texas I'm looking forward to getting back on track with my health and fitness while my husband is deployed to Afghanistan these next 6 months. This past nine months, as we've spent time together prior to his inevitable deployment, we ate a lot (restaurants, vacations, holiday food). It started with a vacation last summer and continued as he received his first deployment notice (which was postponed, cancelled, then changed), and then the holidays hit. While he is gone, fixing my eating is easy since... Tue, 9 Mar 2010 10:43:20 EST I could use some pointers.. .parenting related I'm having a heck of a time dealing with my step son. He's never fully acknowledged me as a parent even though I've had him since he was 4 (he's almost 8 now) and I'm the only mother he's ever really known. He's just really REALLY attached to his daddy. If I tell him to do something he'll often go right behind me and ask his dad, or complain to his dad that I told him to do something. DH always backs me up and usually punishes him for disrespecting me but he's not here to do that.

... My husband just left on 2 Jan for his training for a deployment overseas. Of course, I promised him that I would be very careful in the information that I disclose on the Internet, so I'm sure you understand about my not saying much of anything else about that subject.

I have a pretty hefty goal to work on, in front of me, but I am very excited about the opportunity of this - I know that I have a hard time with dieting when he's home (even though he is wonderfully s... Basically each one of these causes fat... Wed, 21 Oct 2009 14:12:51 EST Fort Drum New York Anyone? Just was wondering if anyone is stationed at Fort Drum New York. Mon, 20 Jul 2009 13:34:19 EST New and getting ready for husband's deployment. Hi Everyone! My husband is getting ready to leave on his deployment in August. I have been working on weight loss for a while. It is very difficult for me to lose weight...and I have been trying for years. Just prior to his leaving I wound up in the hospital with a heart attack, and now of course he's more worried about me than himself. I would love to lose the weight, get healthy and not have to worry about winding up back in the hospital and upsetting him at this time. Tue, 3 Mar 2009 15:54:07 EST Time to Say Good-bye Hubby's deployment will be ending in less than a week, so I will be leaving the group. Everyone here has been great and I loved all the support and encouragement throughout the difficult deployment time. I wish everyone luck and success! Thanks to this group and Sparkpeople, I lost over 23 lbs. during deployment!!!

304 Fri, 27 Feb 2009 06:20:05 EST AlohaI I'm been on Spark for a month now and I'm really excited. Our Daddy is Army National Guard and deployed right now and will hopefully be home in Sept. I'd like to be at my goal weight by then and I told him I would be able to pass his PT test. I'm looking for support to curb the emotional eating and friends who know what I'm going through.
I look forward to meeting you all! Sun, 25 Jan 2009 09:47:19 EST Hello :) I just joined sparkpeople tonight... My boyfriend is a Marine and is currently deployed to Afghanistan. I figured, what better way to keep busy during the rest of this deployment than to try to lose some weight and get healthy, so here I am :) I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. Thu, 22 Jan 2009 22:17:46 EST EMOTIONAL EATING!!!! Okay, there is soooo much frustration here...don't know where to start! I am definitely an emotional eater, I know this much. What I don't know to do is deal with it. I, apparently, don't take advice very well because I've had it from everybody. Stay busy, drink milk, drink water, chew gum... I don't know where my motivation went. My fiancee will be returning around 1 Mar and I don't feel very good about myself right now. There are a myriad of problems going on right now. I am PMSing r... Thu, 22 Jan 2009 21:57:46 EST Newbie I just wanted to say hello to all of you. My husband is deploying in a few weeks and I have a goal to lose 50lbs before he gets back. I'm lining up my family to do it with me so I hope it will work!! I have set a start date for Feb. 15. Would start no but we are in the process of moving along with him leaving. I am scared out of my mind with him leaving and I figured weight loss is a good way to keep busy during my first deployment. Mon, 19 Jan 2009 21:21:04 EST Hey guys....way too late check in!!! Hello all and I would like to welcome ALL New members to the team!!!

I know I know, I have been a crummy team leader, but as you know with military life things have been crazy. I am just trying to get a general idea of what diets or eating plans people have gone on in their beginning stages. I'm having a hard time choosing which eating plan to go with. I just don't want to get bored to death with food. I also don't want to have it so complicated that it's just too much of a hassle to keep up with. Unfortunately, I am a volume eater. I can't do those diets that only let you have a snack bar and a glass of water and call that lunch. Any insight is appreciated. Sun, 11 Jan 2009 15:37:06 EST Hello. Hello everyone. I am new to the group. While my Marine isn't gone on his deployment yet, he will be in the mid-spring for a year. What better thing to do than to focus on me and my daughter and make some positive changes while he's gone. Particularly for me it's losing weight. With each duty station my weight has gone up and then I'd work hard and lose it only to gain it back once the next move came up again. I'm really looking forward to working on that as well as reading some of your posts ... Sat, 10 Jan 2009 00:11:29 EST question I know I rarely post on here, but I do try to read all the stuff. I was wondering if we could do a team challenge (where you could keep track in your "other goals" section) on number of steps taken. I try to take over 5,000 steps a day, but was wondering if anyone else would like to join me in the challenge and maybe we could set it up as a team goal.
Not sure if anyone else brought it up, but thought it would be a better way for us (well, me) to keep track. I have a goal where i ma... Fri, 19 Dec 2008 17:29:28 EST hello group! Hello,

My name is Amanda and my husband is on his first deployment. Fri, 29 Aug 2008 10:11:40 EST Feeling lost Hey out there,
Well I have 5 1/2 months left of the 15 month deployment and have hit a low point. I am tired of feeling like a single parent. It seems everything gets me down. I exercise so I won't turn to food to comfort me like I have in the past. Any suggestions on getting over this stumbling block? Sat, 16 Aug 2008 10:08:43 EST Keeping busy when the spouse is depolyed I don't know about anybody else but keeping busy with the kids and exercising seems to be the only way I have kept my sanity durin this deployment. You can support a U.S. deployed soldier by sending letters, cards or care packages to them as they fight in the name of freedom. A lot of our military folks that are deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and around the world sometimes feel like they are forgotten and not supported in what they do. Many don't have (or hear from their) families, and get no mail. And in a lot of cases, they just crave the basic comforts of home, yummy snacks, and news from th... But I find myself feeling most fortunate that he's only gonna be gone for 11 weeks and is about 10 hours away. So I get to talk to him every night and web cam with him some nights when he's not too tired. I'm still sad and bummed, and etc.... Oh well ,I'll be ok. Plus if I feel overwhelmed I'll stick Lily in daycare and relax for a couple hours. I think I might do it anyway just so I'll have more time to do housework and college... Tue, 14 Aug 2007 11:30:04 EST New to group Hi everyone,

I am new to the group and new to this deployment thing. My fiance was officially activated on July 20th. They went to Virginia for a week to 'phase in' and then came back and are stationed right here in Newport, RI for the next two months - they leave for Kuwait in October. So right now, while he doesn't get to come home at night, we do get to sneak down and see him on his days off. My goal is to "WOW" him when he comes back next summer. I'd love to lose about 40l... Encouragement anyone?? Mon, 30 Jul 2007 13:23:17 EST Sorry I have been away I think this deployment has hit me harder than I thought it would. To him, deployment is nothing new. To me, it is my first. It is rougher than I thought, but I am working through it. Sure, it's taken almost half of the deployment for me to wake up and tell myself that life has to move on, but at least I didn't spend the whole deployment in a depressed zone.

I am back to working on my goals and redefining some of them. Although, I am not technically married to my soldier, we feel as though we are. I belong to some other military support groups on this site and one of them was talking about infidelity during deployment and stuff. This is my first deployment with my boyfriend and even tho I trust him, it still kinda bothered me to hear that it's so common. The way they were talking about it was as if it happens to EVERYONE. Could someone please tell me if it really is so insanely rampant during deployments? Sun, 25 Mar 2007 22:43:52 EST Hubby's home! Brian got back about 2 weeks ago. 224 We celebrated by going to the Grand Canyon! It was the best family vacation we have ever been on.
