Life gets in the way sometimes and we tend to stray from Spark - but hopefully people get a chance to come back here now and then to check it out and maybe get a "refresher" on things. I'm not on here as much as I used to be...I rarely ever log my nutrition (and I probably should, especially that cream puff I had today from the state fair!) but I do log my fitness - mostly because I like tracking the streaks! :)

Wishing you all continu... Wed, 12 Aug 2009 19:46:18 EST Two years and I'm back where I was.....rats!!! So I did well and lost nearly two stone, then I got cocky and stopped tracking, which lead to cheating, which lead to not dieting at all and now it's all back on again. Ho hum.

So I'm back on SP, trying to remember to take it one day at a time and get to my new goals of a) not being 'clinically obese' by Christmas and b) being slim/size 14 for my 40th birthday next May and c) loving myself enough to make the effort lol.

I hope everyone else on my original team has done ... Tue, 14 Jul 2009 06:53:38 EST Anyone still around? I'm wondering if there's anyone still around from this class of August 2007. I lost the weight I wanted -- 12 pounds I think, in 5 months. But... traveling, stress, holidays, etc. have intervened, and I've gained 9 pounds back after about 1.5 years... slowly adding a pound at a time. I'm SOOOO irritated with myself. I'm trying to just pick myself back up and do what I know to do. Any success stories out there?

Radiant 24 Fri, 30 Jan 2009 02:13:35 EST Happy New Year! I hope everyone has a safe and healthy year!! Tue, 6 Jan 2009 15:44:16 EST new to the team Hi everyone. I joined SparkPeople back in August, but I'm finally just getting myself motivated to really use it and see if it helps me.
I'm a new mommy (my daughter is 9 months old) From Pennsylvania.
My main goal is to lose my pregnancy weight (27 pounds), but I'd like to lose 50-60 overall.

Hope to get to know some of you! I'm always looking for some new friends Mon, 20 Oct 2008 17:19:55 EST So how's the weather by you??? It's been crazy here in the Chicagoland area. Drier than dry all summer and then flooding rains this past week. DH actually had to go out and cut the lawn the other day - It's been almost 2 months since he's had to do that! WOW!

Plus the temp changes are really starting to get on my nerves. First it was hotter than heck and the air conditioner ran for a month straight. Then it was SO cold I almost begged dh to turn on the furnace (yes, I am a baby when it comes to colder weath... Wed, 10 Sep 2008 21:15:37 EST Happy Birthday, NOMI_822! Feels like only yesterday when I joined up.

How has everyone done this past year? I have only lost between 7-9 lbs. this whole year, which is somewhat disappointing. However, I joined the Y in January and started working out, and have been going strong with that since I joined, so that is a pretty big accomplishment for me - the fact that I have kept at it even amazes myself! I haven't lo... Mon, 11 Aug 2008 22:10:35 EST Old to Spark People, new to posting! Hello all. I joined last year and just fell through the cracks when it came to dieting, yet again. This time I have a good start. One full week of exercise, and one full week of tracking food and calories. I really need a motivation coach, someone to PUSH me day in and day out as well as listen to me whine when I don't want to work out, eat right, continue on this plan. It's a lot to ask of someone, but I hope I can find a coach out there! I have a gym right here at work, so it is difficult t... Tue, 29 Apr 2008 12:38:08 EST Weekly check in ? WTF!!! 28 Wed, 9 Jan 2008 07:03:44 EST Anyone still out there? How many of us are still here? If you're here, how are you doing? Have you made much progress? Where are you getting stuck? Maybe we can help each other out.

I'm still sparking. I had some injuries around Thanksgiving that affected my ability to exercise but I think I'm back on track now. My eating was horrible over the holidays but I've recommitted and am trying to start a streak of logging every bite, lick, and taste (or BLT).

How's everyone else doing? Tue, 8 Jan 2008 13:22:40 EST More than 5 a day Hi, all! In stage 3, step 2, action step asks you to pick something you're not doing so well at and find someone to do it with so that you and the other person can do better. I could really improve on eating more fruits and veggies. I'm going to take a week and come and post my fruits and veggies for the day here as a kind of challenge to myself to get more than 5 a day. Who will join me?? Tue, 4 Dec 2007 11:27:32 EST Hi from an old member that is new to posting Hi everyone
My name is Valerie I've been a member since August but had not been posting. I finally got motivated and am becoming active in posting messages. I got off to a slow start but I think of myself as the tortoise in the story of "The Tortoise and the Hare'.
It doesn't matter how fast I go so long as I continue to make steps to finish my course. Hello to everyone and best wishes in meeting your goals. 213 Wed, 28 Nov 2007 21:57:14 EST Thanksgiving prep in the USA! Not too much longer and it will be time for Thanksgiving - with other celebrations following close behind!
What new recipes are you trying out to keep your eatting during the holidays under control?
4
Thu, 15 Nov 2007 11:43:17 EST Xana? How do you do Spark Points? Xana, I've noticed you on the leaderboard of sparkpoints several time. I'm as good as I know how to be but I don't think I've ever broken 100 points a day. How do you get so many points in a day? I only have 730 for November so far, but you have over 2000!! I must be missing something. I know it's not a big deal, but I'm curious. Mon, 12 Nov 2007 12:50:11 EST 3 Month Anniversary... Well, tomorrow is the 3 month anniversary for me. I'm sorry that the past month has been flat for me. I've just plain lost motivation. I don't log my food half the time. I'm back to mindless stuffing, especially at work. Not only do I not not log my exercise, I'm not getting out and getting any (except dancing a couple times a month, and that's really entertainment). I might have regained a pound or two, but more than that I'm worried that my lifestyle changes haven't been so short lived. I w... Sun, 11 Nov 2007 18:50:41 EST SICK! :( So I have been sick since Monday. I even had to stay home from work all week and I have absolutely no appetite so I have only been eating between like 700-900 calories a day. I bad but I am just not hungry at all. Well I went to the doctor on Monday and again today and they weighed me both times and my weight actually went up today....I thought it was kinda funny/weird since I haven't been able to get down even my recommended calorie intake for my... Fri, 9 Nov 2007 19:35:11 EST Did everyone move on? Hi, all! This team has been silent of late. Did you all move on to other teams? I guess you would have to do that or have left Spark entirely. I have ended up a team leader of an existing team so I've been busy there trying to do a bit of revitalization. I'm curious...what other teams have you joined? And if you don't mind taking the time to share, why do you like the team?

I've joined

Moms and Dads at Home
LDS Ladies
Couch to 5K Running
The Firm Beli... Fri, 2 Nov 2007 11:47:40 EST Upping protein I recently read an article, here on Spark, that talked about having 30% of the diet come from protein (as opposed to the recommended Spark 15%). I have a friend who was also recently told that not enough protein could be interferring with her weight loss. I consistenly make it to the lowest possible number of recommended protein (60g), but rarely get out of the 60s. I'm not sure how to up my protein without also upping my fat.

Does anyone have some good ideas? I just polished ... Mon, 22 Oct 2007 23:04:18 EST Has your health improved? I cannot believe how terrific that I feel. I work long, hard hours in a very stressful job, but I have been determined to excercise anywhere and anyhow that I can. I pack my lunch, stick to healthy foods and snacks at home and out, and drink loads of water everyday. It is all paying off, for me. 9

I really feel at least 10 years younger.

Anybody else feeling great? Fri, 19 Oct 2007 19:35:21 EST 2 month anniversary! Drop a dress size by Christmas!! This was my idea for the challenge (though I really like the others as well). So here's a forum to discuss your plan for dropping that dress size and your ideas for making it happen and a place to get support from others in this goal.

I think first, you gotta know what the goal is. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that you measure dress size by waist, bust, and hips. So it's a inches measurement that you're working to lose. Hi, all! It seems to be getting rather quiet on this team. I'm wondering if this team wants to try some of the challenges and goals and team competitions that I see some of the other teams doing. Anyone interested? Sun, 30 Sep 2007 16:53:21 EST Big event coming do you handle it? Ok...I'm two weeks away from my 36th birthday. I'm also 9lbs away from being under 200lbs (which I haven't been since before my first child came). I was thinking today that for my birthday, I'd love to give myself a 9lb weight loss...but 9lbs in the next two weeks is definitely not recommended by Spark.

What I am wondering if is there is any recommended thinking on a "quick boost" maybe, so that maybe I could at least be under 205, which is where a whole new wardrobe of clothes s... Once I go out to a restauraunt, a friends house for dinner, or the horror of all dieting horrors, a party, I feel the pressure to fit in and eat what everybody else is eating in the same or larger proportions.
Does anyone else have the same problem? What are some stategies to deal with it? Sun, 26 Aug 2007 16:21:09 EST Healing Stroganoff - Recipe of the day So - did anyone else try the Healing Stroganoff recipe?
It was really good! Served it with a helping of Alton Brown's Baked Brown Rice from RecipeZaar - Awesome!
4 Fri, 24 Aug 2007 22:22:05 EST Visual People Read this! All, I'm a visual person, I want to see what I have done and am doing. So here is my thought. I think instead of throwing away the boxes that butter comes in the next few months, I am going to save them. My goal is to lose 50lbs before I acquire 50 boxes from butter. Now I'm a little bit lucky in that I have a 5 lb lead. (I've already started losting weight but only just had this idea for a visual accomplishment. )

Anyone have any other thoughts on what might be a ... Fri, 24 Aug 2007 21:27:05 EST Do we have a weigh in thread here? I was looking to see if there is a place to post WI'd and can't find it.
I lost 1.2 lbs this week for a total of 24.2 lbs since I started on my diet. This was my first week on SP, but I've been dieting for months. Slow but sure. Fri, 24 Aug 2007 17:27:59 EST Help please! Jarejil and I are wondering what good ideas everyone has on simple rewards that don't cost calories or in we shouldn't be rewarding ourselves with chocolate or cheesecake (as I have for way too long) and sometimes there just isn't the money to buy that new outfit or get a pedicure.

Does anyone have some good ideas for us? My suggestion was a soak in the tub. Fri, 24 Aug 2007 11:08:15 EST I LOST 10 LBS! Friday is weigh-in day for me.
Good News!
I lost 10 lbs in 9 days!
These are the changes that I have made:
1. Woke up & had cinnamon rolls. Anyone else falling? I really want to stick w/it and win the battle this time! It is so hard to be good and not over-eat. I just can't believe that we had over 14 THOUSAND people join sparks just last week! I stumbled in on Monday when I was looking for just a food journal.
Hey team leaders - is that an average number of people for a week?

As for me I didn't even do my first official weigh in until Thursday, because I needed to buy a scale. Thursday said 286 and this Morning said 283. And considering I was expecting 290 (or more) for my first weigh, I'm veryy happy with the results so far.
... Mon, 20 Aug 2007 12:35:33 EST Hello... Hello all...I just joined a couple of days ago, and I really like the usability of this site to log my food and exercise. I started losing weight around November 2005-January 2006, and I lost 70 pounds by August 2006. I kept it off until around June 2007 when I met a great guy. I got a little lax and put back on about 15 pounds, so now I am trying to work on loosing those 15 plus some to get to my goal weight range 136-150. I hope I make some friends along my journey. Sun, 19 Aug 2007 21:08:44 EST Introducing myself Hi, I just joined SP, and am doing WW. I was doing the Flex plan, but just switched over to core. I found out about this website on their message boards. I love the way SP shows me how I'm using my calories. I have a tendency to lean towards carbs & usually don't get enough protein. This is helping me plan my meals better.

I'm retired & am really focusing on getting to a healthy weight. 137 Sat, 18 Aug 2007 23:20:29 EST hi from another new person! Hi there everyone, I too am a new SP member, just wanted to say that so far I *love* this site, I can tell it is different than other weight loss sites and I am feeling so motivated as I begin my journey towards health! Looking forward to meeting you all!! Sat, 18 Aug 2007 17:51:44 EST Day 5 and half an inch gone Well, I'm excited to report my one whole pound has remained gone and my waist measurement is down by half an inch! I'm just pleased! I didn't stay within my range for the last two days...100 calories over, but I tracked carefully and I'm working today to stay in the lower part of the range in order to kinda make-up for it.

Hey buddies? How are you all doing? Sat, 18 Aug 2007 13:42:42 EST Howdy Hey ya'll. Just getting started and trying to figure out all these great tools. Hope to be 'seeing' you lots. Sat, 18 Aug 2007 09:21:23 EST Day 1 wasn't too bad Today was my first day. It wasn't too bad.

I think some of my strong points are that I am not a coffee drinker. I easily gave up soda earlier this week (I was already drinking decaf diet soda and had been cutting down). I don't mind drinking plain purified water.

The hard part for me is that either I want to snack all day long on empty calorie stuff, or I will get too busy doing stuff that I forget to eat until I feel like I am starving by dinner time. I have to remembe... Sat, 18 Aug 2007 00:09:53 EST Where do we start? All, I think one of the toughest things with any program is the large amount of information that gets thrown at you right away. With SP we have nutrition, exercise, blogging, journaling, message boards, tons of articles etc... So it can quickly be overwhelming.

What I have decided to do this time is to focus on one thing at a time (ok maybe 2 or 3 but definitely not 5)

I also am trying to be realistic. For example this week, I set my goal as focusing on the ... Fri, 17 Aug 2007 18:03:54 EST Waz up! I joined a while ago and never used spark I am bound and determined to do it this time and do it big! Thu, 16 Aug 2007 20:49:20 EST New Person Hello! I have been working on this weight of mine since I turned 40 in late June, and I have lost close to 20 pounds. I am working incredibly hard, cardio 6 days a week, weight training since the beginning of August, and I can really start to see the difference. I stumbled upon SP last night and everything looks good to me.. except the calorie counting/food planner thingie. I am too much of a rebel for that! But I will try!

Good luck to everyone here... We will all make it. ... Thu, 16 Aug 2007 18:18:38 EST NEWBIE!!!! Hello everyone! I going to try counting calories and excercising. If anyone has similar goals or tips or just wants to chat I'd love it. Good luck to everyone. Thu, 16 Aug 2007 04:22:19 EST What reward system do you have? I just read a SP article about reward systems. I came up with one for my ultimate goal: I want to decorate a picture frame and when I reach my goal by december 25th, I will take a picture of me in a fabulous Christmas dress and put it in the frame. 233 Thu, 16 Aug 2007 03:01:01 EST Day 2 thoughts K, I just have to share that I made it through 2 whole days completely within my range!! And I even did the strength training and cardio that was recommended. I know, that doesn't seem like much to some, but I'm proud of me and had to share. How are you guys doing? Share the success! Thu, 16 Aug 2007 00:36:08 EST What's for dinner tonight? I thought we could start sharing some recipes we like! I go to all the time (and get the magazine in the mail) for dinner ideas. Here's what I'm making tonight!

ngredients

3/4 pound small red potatoes
1/2 pound green beans, trimmed
1/3 cup reduced-fat Italian dressing
2 teaspoons chopped fresh or 1/2 teaspoon dried tarragon
4 (6-ounce) tuna steaks (about 3/4 inch thick)
8 cups mixed salad greens
1 hard-cooked large egg, ch... Wed, 15 Aug 2007 08:23:39 EST Day 1 discussion Trav shared his concern about feeling like he was required to eat more than he wanted to. I wondered how everyone else's first day was going?

Today was my first full day on the system. I'm a little hungry at the moment, but I'm going to go have a string cheese which still keeps me in my range and drink my last cup of water (I usually do better on that, but I've been busy today). This is the honeymoon phase for me, so I'm having a great time playing with the meal plans and so on.... Tue, 14 Aug 2007 23:44:13 EST First Spin Class ...and all i can say is WOAH! It was intense. The instructor was so nice, and helped me adjust my bike before class. It was great that she was petite like me and understood what I needed.

It was so hard, and I mean SO hard, but I loved it. The hour flew by, and I can really feel it in my butt and inner thighs already.

What will I feel like tomorrow?!?! My legs are my primary form of transportation ( i live in a city and don't drive), so I hope they can at least ... Mon, 13 Aug 2007 21:05:49 EST Friends Make You Fat Too? I hadn't ever really thought about it before, but I overheard the Today show discussing a recent study that came out regarding friends making eachother fat (the pack mentality i guess and it being OKAY to have the fattening piece of food if you are etc)

But, the more I opened my eyes to it, the more i realized that most of the people I have surrounded myself are also relativley heavy.
Even at work, I have gained a considerable amount of weight in the year that I have been at... Mon, 13 Aug 2007 20:23:02 EST Get to know each other! I've been trying to figure out how to meet other people on this site, but frankly, despite the huge numbers of people on the site and the forums designed for meeting people, I find it a little daunting.
Everyone in this SparkTeam has something in common; we're all just starting out, so why not get to know each other with a game? Each person can ask a question about the next poster, and reply to the previous person's question. I'll start with a fact about myself and a question for the nex... Sun, 12 Aug 2007 23:33:18 EST Get to know each other! I meant to post this to the Introduce Yourself to the Team forum, so check there. Sun, 12 Aug 2007 23:31:46 EST Too much food? Today was my first full day on the SparkPeople diet. I was all excited and ready to follow my meal plan to a T. I realized it was almost time for dinner and I still had yet to eat any of the stuff on my list for snacks, so I decided to skip them. Now I just finished dinner. I feel like I ate too much, but was unable to finish all my food. I want to lose this weight, but do I really need ALL the calories recommended? I feel like I'm eating more now than I was before. What do I do? Sun, 12 Aug 2007 20:15:55 EST
