Tue, 14 Aug 2007 17:08:33 EST Thought for the Day I realized several years ago that I was not perfect and would never be perfect, and in so seeing, I became perfect. I realized that I would never be without an attribute that someone, somewhere would view as a flaw, and because of this flawed existence, I was perfectly human.

Discuss.

I think this means that being perfect does not = being flawless. Being perfect means accepting that you are flawed. Mon, 6 Aug 2007 16:08:45 EST The Voices in Your Head And the power that they have. We all have those voices - something that someone said somewhere along the way which sticks inside our brain and rolls around. I know when I wasn't feeling so great about myself - those voices were mostly negative and I'm grateful that for the most part - I've learned to listen more to the positives and confront the negatives when they rear their ugly head. So, I thought I'd open a discussion of the power that those voices have in determining our health, by shari... Thu, 2 Aug 2007 08:59:45 EST Week August 1-7: Strength Training 3 x 5! Tue, 31 Jul 2007 09:18:22 EST Dear You Insensitive Person... Dear Lady in the Gym Locker Room -

I understand that you are wanting to impress the other person you are talking to with your knowledge of all things gooey and chocolate that you are about to go make, bake, or buy. I also understand that you seem to have already finished your workout as you are not in any type of workout attire that I would deem appropriate for the gym (the lacey skirt is a bit much if so). Although - may I add, you do not appear to be sweating or even have a post... Thu, 26 Jul 2007 13:29:55 EST Plateau Busters I hit a plateau last Monday in spite of a week of a lot of exercise and careful tracking. I've been hearing some good suggestions and hope they work! Mostly people say that you need to change up your routine in some way.

One is to eat in the low end of your calorie range for a few days, then the high end for a few. Another, like Lyncka said in the other thread,
is to up your cardio. Then again, I've also heard people say that it might be time for a rest to let your body regro... Does anyone do this, and what reward do you use? I'm looking for something small, that's not food related, that I could do every day that I stay on plan. Thu, 12 Jul 2007 09:56:52 EST Good report! Cholesterol down! I had good news today. I had my cholesterol levels checked and they have gone down considerably since January (Total 281-232 with a goal of under 199, LDL: 171-136 with a goal of at the most under 130.

So the weight loss and exercise is really making a difference. Then I realized that I was spending more time on here then I was with my family. I became obsessed with this web site. So I left and then I jumped off (not fell) the wagon. Between moving and other issues I was totally stressed and I always turn to food, no matter what I am feeling. Anyway now my life is more stable and I am ready to get back on the wagon. Give this weight loss thing another shot. Tue, 10 Jul 2007 13:32:16 EST Where are you? Sat, 7 Jul 2007 08:40:08 EST Happy Independence Day! Being over here in Germany, I'm not tempted by picnic food today. I'm a little homesick because the 4th has been a time of visiting friends whose terrace overlooks the fireworks in the town where my folks live. But there was always tons of finger food on hand!

Denise Austin's e-newsletter today had a list of suggestions on how to keep moving on the 4th - playing baseball with the kids, throwing a frisbee, going for a bike ride. Now I have blocked them out and it is so true when you deprive yourself of something you want it more. ughhhhh. Mon, 25 Jun 2007 20:55:54 EST Happy experience dress shopping! I had a great thing happen when I went dress shopping on Friday! About two weeks ago I went in to David's Bridal for the first round of wedding dress shopping and wore a size 16W. I went back on Friday and the same dresses (I had narrowed it down to 2) in the 16W were too big!! I had to have them bring me a 14W instead! I actually tried on a 16 (ladies size...which means it is one size smaller than the 14W) and was able to get it to zip up. It was a little tight, but if I lost another 10 or s... Mon, 25 Jun 2007 09:49:36 EST Celebrating! Today will be my 100th day of daily 30-minutes exercise. The past week was tough, but now that I've reached that landmark, I'm motivated to keep going - at LEAST to my birthday which was my original goal. Like I said in my blog, it's hard for me now to imagine a day now without some kind of exercise.

I'm going nordic walking this afternoon and I'm going to take a bottle of sparkling apple juice along to celebrate with the group. This is kind of like the group question but I thought it would be nice to share the different challanges that they are involved in. It could also give us some ideas on how to challange ourselves.

I've joined a challange to exercise for an hour every weekday.

I also just finished two challanges a four week challange to loose 5 lbs and a first day of summer challange to loose 10 lbs in two months.
Thu, 21 Jun 2007 19:09:58 EST "Dream Pants" zip, button, look fab-u-lous!!! So the plan is to go out and purchase NEW dream pants in a single digit size... Wed, 20 Jun 2007 10:46:02 EST Weird schedule days - how do you handle meals when your schedule is really off kilter?

For instance - today I have a meeting from 5-9pm, which is going to go straight through one snacktime and my dinnertime. I know I'm going to be starving and grumpy if I'm not proactive.

So - I ordered a lunch that is normally what I would eat for a dinner and ate 1/2 of it. I also picked up some popcorn for a snack. I'll eat the other 1/2 of lunch as close to the meeting time of 5pm as I can and save the popcorn for a mid-meeting... Tue, 19 Jun 2007 13:42:58 EST I saw something funny this morning So I was at walmart doing my weekly grocery shopping (I got a cute new blue metal water bottle on sale for $3!) and my friend who shops with me was looking at the new magazines so I wandered to look at new books. Alli (the weight loss drug just released last week) has a companion book for $15 that has some mild exercises and tons of recipes, info on how to set goals, etc. I just started laughing so hard. I know alli does block some fat in the digestive tract, but this reminds me so much of... Tue, 19 Jun 2007 08:33:59 EST Today's snack... My snacks for today are string cheese and grapes. Sun, 17 Jun 2007 17:30:50 EST Suggest a Group In Angela's roll call thread, several people mentioned that they are involved in other groups. I thought it might be fun to hear what those groups are.

Where are you having fun, finding support, being accountable?

The ones I participate in the most are Christian Living (Accountability thread) and One-Day Challenge. There's not much chatting on the second one, but the daily challenges are really motivating.

Michelle/Zella
Sun, 17 Jun 2007 08:45:02 EST How many are left ?!?!? Sat, 16 Jun 2007 18:44:29 EST weekends kill me When I have to go to work I am so great about a healthy breakfast, packing a lunch, planning out my calorie usage and setting aside time for working out. I have been off this weekend and I have a four day weekend coming up and I am terrified. All I did this weekend was lounge by the pool reading. I didn't fix a proper meal the whole time. I didn't track, and mainly just snacked me way through the weekend. I wasn't loading up on high sugar and high fat stuff, however its like I gave up all ... This is my second week in a row with no loss but I'm feeling skinnier.

I decided to go dig my prepregnancy clothes out of storage and see how close I was to fitting into them. A month ago I couldn't even pull my pants up over my hips. Today I can do them up! Most are still too tight to actually wear but two pairs fit me nicely! The shirts are still too small since I hold all my weight in my core but very soon that will change too.

The scale may say I'm not getting an... Sat, 9 Jun 2007 21:41:17 EST Lost 10% of body weight so far I'm very excited to see that I reached a goal of 10% of my total body weight today in 7 weeks of SP!! Fri, 8 Jun 2007 12:35:20 EST I've been gone for a few days. Well I stopped recording what I was eating and doing for the last few days and I was doing okay by myself for the first few days but then started to slip into my old ways.
A friend that I told about this site joined and so I'm going to get back on track. I think that I stayed with in my calorie range but I know I could have ate better food, done more exercises, and drank more water.
It didn't take me long to fall off the wagon but I guess all that matters is getting back on.
... Thu, 7 Jun 2007 17:42:18 EST Stage 2: Healthy Diet Habit #6...ideas? I just got the email today for habit #6. It sounds like a great idea in theory, but I'm having a hard time coming up with new ideas for finding exercise in unexpected places.

The main one that I do is put on music while I'm doing things around the house and trying to dance to it while I'm doing things (as much as I can while still getting the thing done). But I know there's more that I could do, but just can't think of anything.

So, any one have suggestions? Mon, 4 Jun 2007 12:30:31 EST June Team Challenge! The general consensus among the May challengers is that we want to give it another go in June!

The challenge is to stay within our calorie ranges each day for the month. Several team members also suggested that we post once at the beginning of the month and edit our posts daily to save space. Now for the past few days it doesn't really hurt it just feels like there's a lot of pressure and it's swollen. Should I stop all together until I can talk to my dr (I have an appointment on the 31st) or just continue as long as it doesn't hurt? Wed, 23 May 2007 15:50:55 EST 30 Days Got 25 points today for being on SP for 30 days. How cool ist that! ;) It doesn't seem like that long. I'm still getting the hang of it - so many new habits I'm trying to build. Does anyone have any suggestions for losing my midsection? I have been dieting and exercising since Feb. and lost 25 lbs and some (small amount) of inches all over. However, my belly does not seem to ever go down. I'm doing cardio (elliptical, treadmill, walking outdoors, step machine) and strength training but I am just not seeing any results. This morning at 5 am one of my beloved cats died unexpectedly in my arms. I think he had a heart attack, he made a pained noise in the other room and came running up next to me, collapsed and had a seizure. I checked his airway and rubbed his chest but there was nothing I could do. He died while I was holding him. He had been a stray that I took in two years ago, so he could have been 14 for all I know. We had a nice little funeral for him in a friend's back yard at dawn.

I've... I was spending more time tracking the food that I was eating that anything else. I know that it has only been two weeks but I feel like I have the skills to not need to use this site anymore. So good luck everyone I hope that you all continue to do well and fo... Sat, 5 May 2007 03:29:21 EST I dont get it. I have been dieting like crazy for two weeks. Today is my two week mark on SP... I have only lost ONE pound. I am staying in my range. I am drinking my water. I am watching my sodium intake. I am eating fruits and veggies. I am having less carbs, more protein. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. I am SO FRUSTRATED. I thought last week, I only lost one pound because it was TOM. So I just expected to lose more this week. And I stayed the same, didnt lose an OUNCE. Is anyone else having this problem? WHY is ... Fri, 4 May 2007 10:14:04 EST Question I just have to ask How is it that people are getting anywhere from 200 to 800 points per day??? I've signed up for all the emails, which I love, and I do the "view SparkPoints" thing and get as many as I can there...but even if I did every single one, it still wouldn't add up to those kind of numbers, lol. gives you "up to 50" points for emails...I'm signed up for every email option and I'm not getting anywhere near 50! 20 Fri, 4 May 2007 09:06:02 EST Tough time with mid week Last week I had a bad day on thursday. I over ate and just did terribly. This week today started out bad. I just didn't want to do anything today. I fell back into my old habits and skipped breakfast this morning abd sat around reading and playing with my daughter on the floor. I just felt depressed and wasn't going to do my cardio until my husband called. He asked me to bring him some water at work. He's a sub-contractor and was on a jobsite near by. I decided to walk and once I was o... Wed, 2 May 2007 16:16:12 EST Fast Fueler - Personality Types I finally got around to taking the profile quiz and it really nailed it. I continue to be impressed by all the tools and info on the Spark site. I'm curious how many others fit into the Fast Fueler type. Somehow, I have a feeling we may be in the majority!?

The strategies they suggested are what's been working for me. Only exception is number 5 because I don't drink coffee and rarely caffeinated tea.

1. Pack your lunch or have someone pack for you so it's there when you ... Mon, 30 Apr 2007 16:44:56 EST Stage2 When you move into Stage 2 do you not get a new set of goals (like the Fast breaks, but for Stage 2)? I went through the setup to change to Stage 2, but my goals are still listed as being the Fast Break goals. It even says right on my start page that I am in Stage 2 of 4. Just wondering, thanks! Sun, 29 Apr 2007 12:47:50 EST Anyone else have a rough first week?? Hey!
Just looking for some support here. Started off well on the diet for about the first 4 days and got really fatigued. One hard workout and I've been craving as much carbs as I can get the past two days :( (Near TOM too!)
Hope the first week is going a little better for everyone else on here! I have exams the next week and a half so I'm just going to have to do my best to maintain and eat as healthy as possible with all the study group food etc...
Have a great weekend ev... Fri, 27 Apr 2007 23:02:54 EST Is anyone else hungry all the time? Up til now I've been okay with the constant hunger since starting. But today it really got to me and I ended up eating my lunch early, then my snack early, and then a second snack. I was over my calorie limit for the first time, and I'm still hungry. I tried picking the most filling stuff I could but it didn't help for long. Fri, 27 Apr 2007 19:55:46 EST Welcomes/Team Announcements Our team should be pretty well set now. Any new members or members who haven't yet introduced themselves can do so in this thread. We need a thread for important info, etc., so I thought this would be a good "combo-thread" to cover both things.

We have three team leaders--me (NO_REGRETS), DIVADAVIS, and MORBIDKITTEN. I'll let the other two team leaders introduce themselves, but I think it is fair to say that MORBIDKITTEN is a good resource for exercise/fitness info and help. <B... Thu, 26 Apr 2007 19:31:25 EST May Team Challenge Okay, are we ready for challenges? I'm thinking we should start simple, maybe do a month-long challenge that is managable. I know we all have different amounts of time available to devote to logging in and posting, etc., so if we do a month-long challenge, maybe we can set a minimum of once a week posting your progress on this thread? So, here's my idea:

Goal #1: Stay within recommended calories every day...

So, I can post my calories daily on this thread, or I can l... I can't believe how little it is. I ate some pineapple too so I am not hungry but I never realized how much an actual serving was. I am a huge cereal eater and I usually have an overflowing bowl of it. I am talking walking slowly to the table because I didn't want any of my food falling to the floor. Anyway I just couldn't believe how small the portion was I had to tell someone Mon, 23 Apr 2007 13:02:34 EST YAY!!!! Pleased to say that after 1 week at sparks I have lost 3lb. Thu, 19 Apr 2007 17:06:21 EST not enough calories? ????????? Hello everyone hopefully someone can answer my question.
I logged the food and calories I ate yesterday and went to do the scale progress for the day and it said I had to little calories. Does the calories you need have to fall in the range that it gives you for you to lose weight? I wasn't at all hungry yesterday and thought I was eating healthy. I know that by logging the calories in I made choices differently than I would if I hadn't paid attention to the fat and calorie content. Any ... Thu, 19 Apr 2007 17:05:13 EST How to balance carbs/pro tien/fats I have been diligently tracking my eating for the past few days and have a question. My protien is always higher than the recommended, but I am getting it from sources other than meat, as I am eating a small amount of meat daily(1 egg, whole grain products, beans, etc). My fats fave been much lower and carbs slightly lower, it seems silly to cut back on these healthy things, am I wrong in thinking that maybe it is ok to be out of balance?

Trish Thu, 19 Apr 2007 12:07:22 EST new member I have already been more consistent since joining this website than I have with anything else...dealing with my weight.
