SparkPeople Couch to 5K Group Team Messageboard New to running? So are we! If you are interested in starting the Couch to 5K Running Program or you already have, this team is for you!!! SparkPeople Couch to 5K Group Team Messageboard New to running and doing C25K. Need help. I just started my C25K (W1 D3) but I am completely new to running. I’m in pretty good shape and can run pretty well for never running, at least I think so. Just to see where I am I ran 5k last night on the treadmill (I do my C25K training on the road) at 5.5mph (10:54 pace) and completely the whole run without stopping. The last mile was pretty hard but I just assumed it was because I did my C25K Days 3 run just hours before this run. Now I have no real pain just a little sore in some of the ... Thu, 12 Apr 2018 13:41:59 EST Hi all! Hi all. I am new to the team, but not to Sparkpeople. I have been here for years. I downloaded the ZenLabs version and week one is kicking my butt. I am on run 3, but that's after doing run 1 getting injured and staying out the rest of last week, then doing run 2 Monday. I think I will repeat run 2 today, then do run 3 Friday. Next week I will just repeat week 1. I am going to repeat it until I can actually run in 1 minute intervals for more than 5 of the intervals.

I am round. I ... Wed, 29 Mar 2017 12:22:57 EST Transitioning from Walking to Running Hello, Sparkers!

For an upcoming article, we're looking for tips and advice from real walkers who became runners.

- What motivated you to go from walking to running?
- How did you make the "leap" from walking to running? What worked for you?
- What advice do you have for those who want to start the transition to running?

Thanks in advance for any input! :-)
Melissa Sun, 15 Jan 2017 14:37:22 EST Hello from MN Hello all! My name is Jenni and I am new to this group. I am a 5'2" girl who weighs 198 lbs. Very heavy for my small frame.... With that... it has been a HUGE goal of mine to actually run my first 5K. My sister recently invited me to join her for a Dirty Girl Mud Run... and I completely bailed on her... because I am so incredibly out of shape. I get winded while walking... how on earth can I run? Let alone through the mud? I want nothing more than to be able to keep up with my husband,... Sun, 21 Aug 2016 11:58:11 EST Hello from NC Hey, y'all, I just joined after reading the article about RWC part 2. I've been running intervals for a few weeks now, but not enough to really make progress yet. A little about me:

I'm 50, I work full-time, I started SparkPeople for real in February, after a false start last fall. I normally weigh 235, but had crept up to 240-something over the winter. I joined a gym through work, and almost immediately fell ill for 2 months, first flu, then exacerbation of asthma, then another fl... Thu, 31 Mar 2016 20:07:13 EST New to Team and to 5K Hello, my name is Alexis and I am new to Spark and will be participating in my first 5k next week. I will mainly be speed walking as I only started training this week - Yipes! I will also be walking tandem pushing my host son so I'm just hoping it doesn't take me a full hour. It it does than so be it, my host son and my need to loose 85 lbs are motivating me to get moving. I will be documenting our journey via video blog soon both as a weight loss journey and as an advocate for Host Home ... Sun, 6 Mar 2016 09:14:37 EST Hello everyone. Today was my lets see were my starting point is when it comes to my 5K goal. Till it gets warm enough to walk/jog outside it is the treadmill for me.I know it is not the best way to train for a 5k it is a good way to start if it is cold and snowing outside. I am starting at a 5 min warm up at 2.5 and then increase my numbers to 3.5 to 4.2. It will be rough but I know I can do this and I have lots of support from my best friend and the head of the athletics department at my college. I am trai... Mon, 29 Feb 2016 10:49:43 EST Hey y'all! Hey everyone!
I'm officially starting this program tomorrow. I used to be able to run about 13km and did the Bloomsday race, but stopped running and now it's a bit of a struggle. I'd love to be able to get back into things and run 5km and hopefully more as the year progresses. I've downloaded an app on my phone so hopefully this will help me! Tue, 2 Feb 2016 01:54:17 EST Hi Hi- I've tried C25K earlier, without getting past week 1, so this is my second attempt. My biggest challenge is waking up earlier to make time for it. I struggled through W1d1 yesterday, barely able to finish each 60-sec jog, and I gave up jogging for a fast walk towards the end. My mistake- I went to an incline behind my apartment. I' worried I might slip from my goal again, and I'm hoping you guys can keep me honest here! :) Mon, 28 Dec 2015 18:30:48 EST Virtual racers out there? One of my coworkers introduced me to the world of virtual races. You sign up for a race (5k, 10k, half-marathon, marathon), payment goes towards a good cause usually and you get an actual medal in the mail.

Some are very legit and well-run, though she cautioned about a few that didn't work or she heard bad things about.

So I signed up for one called Elf on the Run (
-virtual-5k/tr-22184.html) and will be running my first 5k thi... I haven't run in about 10 years due to an injury and I'm starting off slow but I want to get back into running 3-5 miles a day. I've recently quit smoking, my blood sugars are stabilizing, and now I want to get my body fit!

I'm looking forward to running a 5K in the new year. I don't know why I'm so scared/nervous/anxious at the prospect because 3 miles is really no biggie! I guess it's because it is a race?

Anyways, I'm glad to be here! Thu, 5 Nov 2015 09:01:10 EST Overweight and worried about injuries I am not new to running, did it a LOT when I was in the Army. I used to bike ride (my best was >3000 miles in 2 years) between my racing bike and mountain bike. Mix of all sorts of riding when I was in Germany.

So, now, 25 years later and I and thanks to Dr. Pepper, have gained a ton of weight. I am down to 288 now from 305 in the last 2 months (I am 5' 11"). I walk an average of 4 miles a day, usually 2-2.5 non stop at "intense pace" according to my Misfit tracker, the stopw... But I am taking it one week at a time.... with rewards for completion! I am not horribly fast I walk at 3 mph and run at 4 mph. Fri, 7 Aug 2015 04:33:24 EST Soreness Hi - I'm new and just started running again this week. I did the first interval 4 days ago, followed by tennis monday the next night, 3 mile walk the next, and then I think I overdid it trying to swim laps and do tennis on the same day. Today when I walk up my ankle is so sore I'm limping! I had a knee injury in tennis a few months ago, and that contributed to my weight gain as it was a slow recovery. The knee seems to be okay, but my ankle is very sore today.

Is it better to p... Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:43:34 EST I was gong to wait, but... I just read a 5 yr old blog post on not waiting until you lost weight to start running. I actually have a C25K app on my phone, but was going to wait until i lost 50 lbs to attempt it. Then I remembered a quote i had read earlier, "Life is happening now.. not 10 lbs from now. You don't need to be thin to act thing". So at 288 lbs, here I am. Made a promise to myself that if I could get down to 160 I would start again, I'm 63 so it gets a little more difficult each time but I'll get there. Today got on the scale and it was time so started day 1 today. I've been walking 5 miles so incorporated my first run into that. Wed, 25 Mar 2015 18:20:08 EST Tracking: Interval option vs. individual minutes? Hi everyone! I've started the C25K a million times and never finished but recently decided to start back up and thankfully I'm in decent enough shape that I decided to start on week 4 and have done well (also this time I have a treadmill, well see how this changes once I start venturing outside). My question is that in the past I tracked my runs by putting in the individual minutes so like 16 minutes at 5.0, 10 at 3.0, etc., but this time around I see that there's an option that says somethin... While I have improved my pacing since I started, it looks like it will take me 45 minutes to finish a 5K which I don't think I will be able to do by the end of next week :( I am okay with the fact that it will take me a longer time to complete a 5K, I'm doing this for fun, not for competition.

I'm just trying to figure out what to do after next week after I 'complete' ... Last November I reinvented myself, again. This time around, I am a CNA (nurse tech is what most people call us) which meant a whole new life style. Mostly that meant walking well over 6 miles a day, just in the halls of the long term care facility I work at, lifting a bunch of weight, in the form of bodies that may or may not do what the owners of said bodies want them to do, and coping with an 80% income reduction over the last few years. I wanted to let you all know that I have been doing a couch-to-5K program that works over 10 weeks. It's called Podrunner:Intervals and it's free. I always wanted to be able to run, but I never tried very hard. When I found Podrunner, it took care of all of my excuses. I have been training for 5 weeks now and can actually run for more than two minutes without collapsing. In about 4 or 5 weeks, I should be able to run a continuous 5K. Tue, 18 Feb 2014 07:41:12 EST How do you track in your spark people tracker Hi all I was doing the c25k about three years ago and am just about to start again. The biggest problem I had before was tracking my walks/runs. If I track it as a walk the speed and distance don't add up. If I track it at a run the speed isn't right. How do you track it. I used to just manually put it in and think I will do the same again this time but just wondering if there is a better way? Tue, 18 Feb 2014 00:02:48 EST literally got off the couch today I've been on spark for awhile. I haven't done running because of IT band problems. I have learned how to use the foam roller, and it does help. I woke up so tired today - it looked like someone had punched me in the eye. It took me awhile to do anything but read, watch tv and nap. Since I had my kindle in hand, I downloaded a Couch to 5K book, then I downloaded a heart rate monitor and a couch to 5K app for my iphone. Put on some Tom Petty and went out to do it. I've never run on a treadmill, but will have to for the winter because my bad ankle won't let me run on the kind of uneven terrain we get with snow cover.

So, what is it like? So now I am on the mend, I am back at work, but I am still coughing and having issues with fatigue.
