Some of these (for me) are way too easy; some I'm not willing to do (week 12 - I love maple syrup on my morning oatmeal...) But I like the idea of pushing yourself to do something a little challenging for a brief time. I remember trying to give up sugar on my breakfast cereal just for a month when I was a kid, and at the end of the month I had no desire to go back and never did.

14 Weeks of “Real Food” Mini-Pledges:

Week 1: Two fruits an... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 05:35:07 EST introduction Hello. I am new to the team. I am looking forward to interacting with everyone. I am here to give and receive support. I am trying to make changes to eating real foods and shying away from processed foods. Processed foods often contain more sodium. I am trying to cut down on sodium because I am trying to regulate blood pressure through diet and exercise. So far I have a done a pretty good job. Sat, 23 Nov 2013 15:35:05 EST New to the team Hi - trying to eat healthier and more unprocessed foods. Also trying to get the family on board as well. 41 Sun, 3 Nov 2013 09:45:56 EST New to the team. Hi everyone. Hope this is ok for me to join. Yes I love REAL food! LOL My program consists of organic and RAW fruits, vegies, greens with some healthy seeds and supplements.

It will be nice to be around people who believe real food is grown - it doesn't necessarily come in a box. Sun, 22 Sep 2013 10:39:31 EST What are your favorite Real Snacks? I'll admit it. I love a good snack at night in front of the TV with my fella. I know, not a very popular time and place for eating, among the dieting crowd, but there it is, and I'm not ashamed!
(Ha! Seriousness of the issue in jest, though not the snacking part!)

Last night we had air-popped popcorn with Trader Joe's Greek Kalamata Olive Oil drizzled over, and a little salt. Seriously delicious, if you've never tried popcorn this way, you must do it IMMEDIATELY!

A... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 11:30:46 EST Excited about eating healthy and tracking I just rejoined spark people to stay focused and be a little more accountable than I am on my own. I tried doing the Whole 30 challenge earlier this summer and loved it...although summer vacations and celebrations were opportunities to stray from what I loved... and now its harder to start again! I have about 50 pounds to lose and I love pilates!
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 11:37:51 EST Recipe Challenges I guess my biggest issue with tracking my food is trying to log everything that's in a homemade recipe. It's almost impossible to measure out certain things such as when things are mixed into a casserole. Any suggestions on how to become more accurate? Sun, 4 Aug 2013 14:01:15 EST Hello! Hi!

Real Food has become one of my goals ... we already do a lot of cooking ourselves, but I want the packaged, HFCS, salty stuff out of my diet. The more I read, the more I think that eating whole foods is the key to health. Mon, 29 Jul 2013 10:29:08 EST Howdy Hello,
I am Vickie, am new to the team, so stopping by to say hi to everyone !!

213 Mon, 1 Jul 2013 10:14:42 EST Crazy Maggie signing up Hello All - It is now a number of years that I am on my weight loss trek. Three years, and did loose a couple of pounds or most of my augmentum fat as Dr. Oz would say.

I am still working it. In summer time I would eat a variety of 20-30 vegs mostly but also fruit. With salad, soup, smoothies it is easy.

Now I am following The Plan because even with a green diet I am getting constipated and at time it is feeling as if someone is dragging a dry towel through my intestin... Tue, 11 Jun 2013 23:50:48 EST Omni Diet? Does anyone else follow the omni diet? I'm in the reading phase still, and have tried a few smoothies. I'm a bit nervous about dinners with a picky son, a husband who feels my dieting is punishment to him, and in general my family doesn't eat much fish. Any recipes aside from those in book would be awesome! Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:05:18 EST Breakfast and lunch ideas..... Hello,
Everyday I take greek yogurt with blueberries and walnuts to work for breakfast and while I enjoy it, would like to switch it up a bit. Also, I have run out of lunch ideas that don't involve protein over salad, etc.... Any suggestions? I like to eat the same thing everyday; that really seems to help me stay on track, but it also simplifies getting foods ready at the beginning of the week.
sarjajo :) Sun, 26 May 2013 08:00:49 EST Any books that help you? I love "Near a Thousand Tables, A History of Food," by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto, because it gives me perspective of what has been eaten all over the world over time. All these various "new" diet crazes and even old ones (vegetarian) use to make me anxious, not knowing what to try, what might be a good idea and what harmful for me and I just find it comforting to read about how humans have related to food and how our ideas and beliefs about what to eat have come about. Sun, 28 Apr 2013 11:32:00 EST NEW MEMBER I just joined sparkpeople because a friend told me about it. I have a lot of weight to lose and have been trying to figure out the best plan for me to be on. I'm more into veggies and fruits, and don't like to eat a lot of meat so this team sounded like a good one for me to join.
Thanks for having me.
Connie Wed, 17 Apr 2013 17:00:27 EST Health Indicators Everyone has heard that the "eyes are windows to the soul" and know doctors can tell a lot about people's overall health by studying their eyes. Did you know this is true about your dental health and gut as well?

I had a rough day yesterday and talked my dentist out of not doing the big work we had planned for another 3 weeks and am challenging myself to improve my oral, gut, and eye health so my doctor (April 8) and dentist (April 15) notice and comment on how I look/my body beha... Fri, 22 Mar 2013 11:04:01 EST Amaranth Tabbouleh If you're not familiar with it, amaranth is a seed that is high in protein and gluten free.

When cooked it somewhat resembles semolina or possibly Malt-o-Meal (for those who remember it).

Since amaranth is the only seed or grain I am allowed to eat without limits I've been experimenting with different recipes for it.

This is a gluten free variation on the Middle Eastern tabbouleh which I have put over in SparkRecipes.

Sun, 17 Mar 2013 15:14:42 EST Introducing myself Hi everyone.

I've been trying to focus on eating whole foods for some time, and right now since I am feeding no one but myself each day it seemed like a good time to make some changes in my diet.

I read about Metabolic Typing a few years ago and invested the money into taking the test. This showed that I am a Protein Type and Parasympathetic Dominant. Meaning that I need to make sure I have proteins and fats with every meal, and really watch the amount of carbohydrates... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 18:04:52 EST Where's the like button? :-) I'm new to SP, and to this Team. I've read several posts in the "What did you eat today?" topic, that I keep looking for the Like button! Hope we'll find a way to share our yummy, real food recipes. Mon, 14 Jan 2013 18:20:02 EST Anti-diet/diet foods... is why I haven't joined a support network in the past. I finally decided that one way or another, I had to get involved with others, AND do it MY way. I'm excited to find that there is a team here that focuses on real food, not processed. My biggest challenge will be cheese, as I love it, and don't eat light versions. I do fine when I stick to my rule to eat only once a day, and only a 1 ounce portion. There are some cheeses though I can't keep in the house, and rarely buy because I can't con... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 16:01:58 EST Hey Everybody My name is Jennifer. I am new to the team. I am trying to lose about 40 pounds. I have been successful in the past dropping weight, but it seems to be coming back on so I am making another attempt to keep it in check.
The rule in my house about food goes like this: If you cannot pronounce it or better yet don't know what it is - don't eat it. I have switched the habits in my house from junk food junkies to no frozen entrees, chips, and wonder-food. It is amazing how making the switch ca... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 12:34:20 EST Hi there! Mon, 14 Jan 2013 07:18:04 EST Fun foods from childhood When I was 9 and in 4th grade (we're talking w-a-a-y back around 1960 :-) one of my classmates brought a pomegranate to school for her lunch and our teacher made her go around the class and give us all a seed or two to try. I fell in love and went home and told my mother I had to have one and pretty much from then on my mother would buy me a pomegranate every winter, around Christmas as a special snack.

So, recently I bought myself one for December and just got around to eating it... Mon, 26 Nov 2012 17:44:55 EST 95 lbs to Lose I have about 95 lbs to lose to reach my goal but am working on 5 lbs at a time. It sounds like losing 5 lbs is a lot more manageable than saying I need to lose 95 lbs. I lose weight very slowly and I yo-yo a lot, but I really want this weight off.
I've tried a number of different plans but I think for me it's a matter of cutting calories but making the most of what calories I do allow myself. So I'm trying to eat more fresh produce and fruits, and limiting all the junk foods. I do eat me... Unfortunately, I live in a town that has a total of four grocery stores (two of them Wal-Mart), and the farmer's market is only open 2 1/2 months during the summer. Oh, yeah, we have a tiny natural foods store, which I support any time I can. Let me count how many temptations there are, like the Marie Calender Pepperment Cake which has 930 calories for a serving, which is 1/6 of the cake. Forget it, I could chomp 1/2 of the cake ... My goal is 115, and I have definitely been able to tell the difference in how I lose weight when I run. I think however, I usually go to hard and hate it so much, as well as feel self conscious that I usually quit pretty soon after. Hoping this site can motivate me and I can meet and moti... Thu, 2 Dec 2010 07:02:58 EST Hi! I am an emotional eater who can go off on binges. I am working to control that by remembering that one day at a time is all I can do. Evaluating my feelings that cause me to want to eat. Asking "Why are do you want to eat?” Acknowledging that I do not want to eat because I am hungry. I am on a journey to change my behavior. I must deal with the reason(s) and the emotion(s) because they will still be there if I eat or do not eat.

As an emotional eater, I know the comfort I have got... I joined this group because I'm determined to cut down on processed foods and eat more authentic whole foods. The problem is packaged foods are just so much easier to purchase because the cooking is done for you (with the exception of the part where you hawk in the microwave). I'm single, so the only person I have to cook for is me. 148 Mon, 23 Nov 2009 09:56:42 EST Post-race junk foodie :P This almost always happens: we're so good about what we eat for days leading up to our races, if not for weeks or months. Tue, 12 May 2009 18:16:12 EST Suggestions for foods sweetened with glucose? A recent Real Age newsletter had a link to an article saying that foods sweetened with glucose as opposed to fructose were found to leave people feeling fuller for longer. Are there any easy suggestions, or words to look out for on labels, so that I can identify foods sweetened with glucose. I understand that fructose is a fruit sugar, and to look out for HFCS, but I'm not certain what to look for to see if my foods are getting their sweetness from glucose.
