Mon, 25 Feb 2019 17:02:24 EST stuck in contemplative mode... hi there - I am almost 54 years old and looking forward to my retirement next April! I have been contemplating having weight loss surgery for about 6 months now. I am fearful that it won't work for me... I've been on the journey trying to lose weight since I was 10 years old and would love for something to work so my health might improve. I have Fatty Liver, Fibromyalgia, PCOS, Insulin Resistance, Arthritis, Type 2 Diabetes, GERD, Asthma and the list goes on and on! I would love to begin my "... Mon, 11 Feb 2019 11:29:36 EST Hi All.... New to group I have been on SP for a number of years on and off... but in July of this year had a RNY and am slowly getting into the way of this new way of life. Ever so thankful for this extra tool to help me in my daily life... I am living in New Zealand, but originally from N Ireland.. and am hoping that I can find other people who are sharing this journey. Sun, 9 Dec 2018 04:13:45 EST Hello Hi There,

I had my surgery on 08/15/2016. I started at 228 and am now down to 188. My lowest has been 175 so I have started to come up which is why I joined Sparkpeople again! I am (was) a type 2 diabetic, insulin 2x a day as well as Metformin and Glipizide. I have not have insulin or any diabetes related medication since my surgery. My issue is not exercising as I had a heart palpitation issue start about a year ago that (after a lot of testing) has turned our to not be surge... Sat, 14 Jul 2018 21:13:16 EST New here I haven't had WLS yet, and am still in the research stage. My doctor has been after me to have it done for over a year now, but I'm not sure it will help me. From what I understand, the idea is to make your stomach smaller so that you are not able to eat as much. The thing is, I don't really eat that much now. The nutritionist that the doctor sent me to said that the reason I'm not losing weight faster and keep plateauing is because I am not eating enough calories. I have a really hard time e... Sat, 7 Oct 2017 15:58:37 EST New Here, Starting Bypass Journey Hello everyone. My name is Sabrina and I just had my first Orientation meeting to start the path to Gastric Bypass and, eventually, the weight loss that I've been trying to achieve since Middle School! I'm planning about 6 months until surgery, so just gathering information right now. I would love to hear from people who have already had the surgery. What surprised you most (good or bad)? What do you wish you'd known before surgery? Any tips or "tricks" for someone just starting out? I'm enco... Wed, 4 Oct 2017 12:38:35 EST New team member Hello, I'm not new to SP, but am new to this group. I had an rny in May 2002, and went from 431# to 200# in the first year, and maintained at 220# until my mom died a few years ago, and then 2 years ago lost my house and gained a total of about 100# total! I didn't go further, because my mom had heart surgery, and I moved home to take care of her, plus, the hanging skin caused issues, and gaining a little back actually improved that, since insurance wouldn't cover removal, and I couldn't af... Tue, 26 Sep 2017 01:28:13 EST New Sparkler Hi, I'm from the UK and new to the team but not new to SP. I had my RNY back in January 2009. Starting at 396lbs with a BMI of 63 I lost 46lbs pre-surgery plus 142lbs afterwards.

However due to a lack of support with the psychological aspects (BED), increasing physical disability and bouts of severe depression I gradually put 106lbs back on.

I am still being treated for depression and am now receiving the counselling I should have had back when. I now feel strong enough ... Tue, 5 Sep 2017 06:04:42 EST New to Group, hope I'm welcom Hi, my name is Lynn. I am just beginning the process leading towards weight loss surgery, in fact, have just begun the medically supervised, 3 month diet, have more appointments with more medical specialists than I've ever met before and not sure how I really feel.

I've yoyo dieted for more years than I can remember. Hi, I'm brand new to spark far loving it. I'm going through all the pre-op stuff for gastric bypass surgery. Something they don't cover much is afterwards....socially how to cope.
For example...being invited to dinner at a friends home or even going out to dinner with friends. I have a group of girlfriends that go out for cocktails and appetizers once a month that I look forward to seeing and catching up with. I love "going to " and "having" holiday parties with fam... Hello,

I had a lap band for a year, had a bad slip and it had to be removed, gained all my weight back FAST. I had a sleeve procedure done in December 2013. I believe my sleeve is too large and I have never had the restriction and success I had expected, possibly due to scarring from the band. I met with a surgeon last week and he suggested I have a bypass. He said it's a matter of finding the right tool. I do exercise regularly and ha been attending Weight Watchers. I'll have ... I have been at a stall since transitioning from pureed/soft food to regular food. UGH this is frustrating. I am getting between 50 and 60 grams of protein most days, my nut wants me to increase to 80- 100 grams per day. Get my water in with no problems. Take my vitamins with no problems.

I am excited not to have to worry any longer about having an insulin pump, haven't needed hardly any in... Thu, 14 Jul 2016 14:15:56 EST Getting back on track - Tortoise and the Hare The story the Tortoise and the Hare, reminded me that this WLS thing is a long term life change not just a quick, whirlwind, weight loss. It kinda feels quick in the beginning when the weight is falling off and you can't eat much. But the real work is learning a new way to eat and not let popular beliefs to side track you. I got side tracked this last year hearing increase your carbs to be a faster runner right into gaining 14 pounds in year three of my journey. It lead to me suddenly havi... I know I can do this and it will help me be a healthier and happier person. I love to exercise but cannot right now due to joint pain in my feet, one knee, and pelvis. I'm only 45 and cannot wait to be able to do the things I should be able to do at my age! Sun, 5 Jun 2016 09:13:56 EST What goes on at your support meetings? Our bariatric clinic use to offer free support groups every Tuesday but they decided to stop running them the month before I have surgery (Dec) so I never got to go to one.

There is a support group that is run by the community and although it's better than nothing I really don't like the vibe I get from them. I've been to about 6 meetings over the last year and last month they openly judged and criticised people who are struggling. Although they weren't targeting specific members o... Especially to be able to try them in a store vs online.

But I have met some women who have lost 150+ pounds and they say pants and esp jeans are very hard to find and sometimes they cant find jeans at all - because of the extra skin. I feel so lost and down on myself I had gastric bypass surgery on 9/13/12. At surgery, I weighed 300 lbs. I only lost 85 pds. I did have a lot of issues. I developed a bleeding ulcer right after surgery. I had trouble swallowing, I had to have a picc line in my arm for 4 months. Just 1 year ago, I had a huge blood clot in my leg, that broke off and travelled to my lungs, it then turned into pulmonary embolism on both lungs. I almost lost my life. Then just two months ago, I developed an umbilical hernia and had to have surger... Mon, 27 Jul 2015 09:59:14 EST Hello Hello everyone my name is Renee. I am currently waiting for my surgery date for RNY. While I wait I have been reading support groups and they have scared me so much. I'm afraid I won't be able to eat some of my favorite foods. I'm not referring to overheating or junk food. More along the lines of onions and fruit. Has anyone had that problem? Or strictures my doctor says it is rare. However it didn't seem so rare on the online support groups.
I've been researching this for 5 ye... Sat, 25 Jul 2015 18:45:05 EST The trade-offs I was heavy my entire life and I had RNY January 2014. I did a lot of research prior to it and didn't find anything about some of these "trade-offs". I call it a trade-off because I would have surgery again in a heartbeat, even though some of the things I am about to discuss are fairly discouraging.

I lost 160 lbs and am now in maintenance, and have been for awhile. It is too easy to eat the carbs and not exercise.
I also have found that I need to follow the RUIDEAL MEAL PROCESS (rules of the pouch):

1. I lost 28 lbs the first month, then slowly lost down to 230-235. I could break into the 220's but couldnt manage to stay there.

Since around Nov last year, I have ... Mon, 8 Jul 2013 10:06:21 EST Need RNY-Friendly Summer Cold Remedies Please Before WLS when I got a cold, I would drink Theraflu, Alka-Seltzer Plus cold, Robitussin, etc. and carry on. I spoke to my brother on Sunday, who has been athletic his whole life and never had a weight problem, who wanted to know why I don't just exercise to get the weight off. I thought about that, knowing my energy level from the different meds I take for diabetes, hypertension and lack of sleep from sleep apnea makes ...
