All mothers of preschool children (pregnant through kindergarten age) are welcome even if you don't go to MOPS! Let's get healthy together! SparkPeople MOPS - Mothers of Preschoolers Team Messageboard SAHM in Minneapolis I am a stay-at-home mom to two young kids - toddler and an infant - in Minneapolis. I'm overweight and in need of a drastic lifestyle change. I've been "trying" to do this for years without success but I'm ready to reach my goals. I've tried to join the local MOPS groups in my area but they are all full :(

I look forward to mutual support with everyone!! My 2 year old is so picky, doesn't like any vegetables except French fries (technically not a vegetable haha) and will often refuse food that she liked the day before. Since I am so tired after coming home from work we will often eat something that we all know she likes, things like chicken nuggets or hot dogs or spaghetti. I don't have a lot of time to make separate meals for us and I don't want to say "eat this stir fry or nothing" to my da... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 13:34:34 EST Just saying hi! Hi! Wed, 16 Sep 2009 10:27:19 EST New to this team... Hey there. I'm a stay at home with 2 boys - a 2 year old and an 8 week old. I took a break from Spark to have my second child. I've lost all but 7 lbs of my pregnancy weight, but have a total of 60 lbs to lose. I'm part of the steering team of a MOPS group and love it!

I'm so tired of being defined and defining myself by my weight. I want to be able to wear clothes and do things that actually express who I am, rather than hiding behind baggy clothes and not getting involved in thin... Tue, 15 Sep 2009 14:41:51 EST MOM togethers We had our first Moms only night last night. Everyone seemed so excited when we started discussing this. Only 3 steering team members showed. Any suggestions. I think we should just bring the kids and make it a playdate. But we started that this summer and didn't have big turnouts for that either. Wed, 9 Sep 2009 10:10:27 EST Yay! I just found out last night they're starting an evening MOPS group about an hour from where I live:) I'm hoping I'll be able to go to it, at least sometimes! Mon, 7 Sep 2009 10:50:43 EST Bummer I was so excited to find a MOPS group online since I don't have one near me offline :) But I don't see too many recent posts here :( I'm a mom to a 3 yr old and 18 month old and work full time--I am LOVING being a mom, but I haven't done the greatest job of making healthy decisions and I'd like to be a better role model for my girls. I am soooo grateful for Spark People! I'm feeling more hopeful than I have in a loooong time. Until I was looking around on this message board I didn't know that MOPS was actually a club you could attend! So I do stay fairly active on a day to day bases but its just doesn't seem to be enough. Spring is now here and I have a high school reunion coming up so that is motivating me to stay on track and to lose 15 pounds of that stubborn baby weight. I joined spark people about 2 months ago and did very well for the first month but life got busy and the spark fell through the cracks and was kind of forgotten ab... Tue, 14 Apr 2009 11:22:39 EST Who's in a MOPS Group and Where? Since we have lots of new moms on our team I thought it would be fun to find out how many of us are in MOPS groups and where your group is.

You DO NOT have to be in a MOPS group to be on this team!!

I am in a MOPS group in Cincinnati, Ohio that is in danger of closing after this year (none of the leaders are coming back and no one is stepping up to help). Fri, 10 Apr 2009 16:58:43 EST Sleeping through the night My 2 year old doesn't sleep through the night. She's actually never slept through the night. She has asthma and has been on albutural and pulmicort since she was about 6 months old. I think it more of a stubborn (her)/ routine (us) that we check to make sure she is ok and then the going back to sleep part seems to be our problem.. Any suggestions would be great.. Wed, 1 Apr 2009 22:56:09 EST NAKED!! Ok does anyone else have kids who like running around naked? My 3 yo is naked more often than dressed, which works out sorta well b/c we're trying to potty train him. But even my 9 yo and 6 yo girls still run around naked occasionally. Am I the only one dealing with nakedness?? Tue, 31 Mar 2009 23:23:10 EST Welcome to all of our new team moms! We've had a bunch of moms join our team recently and I just wanted to say hi and welcome to all of you. Feel free to start a conversation or game or just chat. I'm glad you are here!!! Mon, 30 Mar 2009 23:04:13 EST Scales I weigh in once a week at church. There are 2 scales there side by side. They are both the kind that you have to move the levers until the scale balances. When I weighed in last week, I decided to test both scales, rather than just the one I usually use. I weighed 1.5 lbs. more on one of them than the other. I wonder why? I would think that since the scales have to be balanced that I would've weighed the same on both of them. Isn't that weird? Are those the most accurate scales?

... Wed, 25 Mar 2009 13:17:13 EST Oops, I did it again... So here is my question.... Say "someone" figures out that the lunch they ate in the middle of the day put them way over in calories for the day already. This "person" cannot just starve the rest of the day... How do you eat the rest of the day when you're already over calories for the day? Fri, 20 Mar 2009 18:59:51 EST Hitting My son (4 years old) has been hitting like crazy. He keeps smacking me, punching me, kicking, stepping on my feet. He even licks me sometimes.
I have talked to him, then started yelling. I have taken toys away, time outs, took away TV, and have had to spank him.
Nothing is phasing him. His teachers say he doesn't do this at school.
What else can I do? He is driving me crazy.
Tue, 17 Mar 2009 22:04:10 EST Preschooler Activities Hi Everyone,

I know this might be a crazy question, but my oldest son is almost 18, so I've been out of the loop for a while, but I wanted to know some ideas for crafts for a 4 year old. The 4 year old is my youngest son Michael. My husband stays home and I work full time, so I'm trying to find things that he can do with him, so Michael is not watching SpongeBob all day. Sat, 28 Feb 2009 12:31:15 EST Exercise DVDs? Ok, I need some advice here. I try to goto the YMCA to do cardio and weight-lifting 3 times a week. We have a small but wonderful group. I have been in MOPS for about 5 years when a couple of ladies got it started in our small community. In the beginning there were 2-5 people on a regular basis. His teacher gave me his preschool evaluation today, both his teachers say he has so much trouble focusing. As moms we sure do find ourselves saying things to our kids that are just down right strange. Here are some examples...

"Don’t stick that in the dog’s butt!"

"You don’t always need a book to go poop."

"If you don’t pick up your toys you won’t get to play with the bug."

What one's do you have. I am active in MOPS in Minnesota. I work as an OB-GYN nurse and am a mom to 2 beautiful girls, ages 4 and 2. I am trying to lose weight to set a good example and to be healthy before another pregnancy. Tue, 3 Feb 2009 11:45:04 EST Team Goals? Hi everyone,

Is anyone interested in doing team goals? And if so, what should we do? What does everyone need to focus on? For me, it's drinking water, tracking my food and exercising. What about you? Would you join a MOPS team goal? And if so, what? Fri, 30 Jan 2009 11:09:41 EST What is the best gift your kids have given you? I really like the homemade bookmarks my 9 year old makes for me. I love getting homemade stuff and this is something I actually use, since I love to read! Fri, 30 Jan 2009 11:01:12 EST Is anyone still out there? Hey MOPS moms -- Is anyone around? I admit that I haven't been around SP much, in spite of the fact that we have been snowed in most of the week. We have lots of snow and ice here and my kids have been off school 3 days. You'd think with all this time at home that I would be super productive, get lots of work done and log everything on SP. Not so much. I have been VERY lazy this week and have alternated between eating really badly and eating Lean Cuisine (on sale last week!).

Thu, 29 Jan 2009 17:09:44 EST Which Emoticon is you today? 425 (no school today b/c of snow)

102 (I'm really tired today) Tue, 27 Jan 2009 09:20:37 EST Paperclip Challenge I saw this on another of my teams and decided to share it here. This is just a visual challenge we can each do ourselves. You simply make a chain of paperclips. 1 clip for each pound of weight you've lost. Or you could make a chain for the amount of weight you want to lose and take off 1 paperclip for every pound you lose. Of course I don't know what you do for those .5 lbs. gained or lost. Hmmm. And I assume that you take off (or add, depending on which way you're doing it) a clip if you ... Tue, 27 Jan 2009 09:01:43 EST What is hardest about eating right with kids? As mothers of preschoolers who are trying to eat right and lose weight, we face challenges everyday. What is the hardest part about eating right when you have small children? Does anyone have any solutions or hints?

I have 4 kids and have a real hard time eating right with them around. Sun, 18 Jan 2009 17:34:51 EST Hello, everyone! Hi! I am a WAHM with a 15 month old. I just joined this group. I can't wait to get started! I am doing the 30 day shred videos, along with a few random videos thrown in for fun. I am trying to eat healthier, and drink a lot more water. I want to be able to set a good example for my kids, and to get in shape. Losing the last 20 pounds or so would be great, too, of course. :) Wed, 14 Jan 2009 09:16:47 EST Things Your Mother Wouldn't Say
"Be good and for your birthday I'll buy you a motorcycle!"

"How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back?"

"Don't bother wearing a jacket--it's quite warm out."

"Let me smell that shirt--yeah, it's good for another week."

"I think a cluttered bedroom is a sign of creativity."

"Yeah, I used to skip school, too."

"Just leave all the lights makes the house more cheery."

"Could you turn the music up ... Since this is a forum of only women, I wondered if anyone else experienced frequent yeast infections due to sweating while exercising.

I have had two of them in the past couple months now that I've been working out a lot more. I know this sounds gross, but sometimes it is a few hours before I can take a shower after working out because I either have to run to the sitter, grocery store, run errands after the gym, etc.

Just wondering if I'm the only one?

Over... Wed, 7 Jan 2009 13:08:09 EST Baby Song Game As mothers of preschoolers, we all know lots of nursery rhymes and children's songs. And actually my 5 year old still isn't potty trained at night so she's in pullups too.

Are pullups useful? Or would it be easier to train them by just not using pullups at all? I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor and sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. Fri, 8 Aug 2008 20:23:02 EST FYI ....SALE :) just wanted to pass along that Meijer (if you have those where you live)....has a lot of their work out stuff on clearance. I found the GAIAM brand was most of it. I bought resistance bands for my exercise ball and a few pilates, yoga and cardio DVD's all for about $3 each. I know they had other things too...I think its more of a clearance sale until its gone, but the one I got my stuff at had a lot left :) Tue, 5 Aug 2008 16:34:53 EST A plug for another team I just joined a spark team (there are only 2 of us) called "Ride the Rides" started by a new guy in another forum I belong to. I noticed that instead of embracing this journey and fully participating in it, i've started to coast...not fully logging my food, sneaking half of a baked nugget from Emma's plate, not exercising because it "might" rain (yeah, yeah, i know, lol), "kinda" drinking my water, you get the picture.

It's time to stop coasting and doing this healthy journey of mine half way. Wed, 16 Jul 2008 21:23:14 EST MOPS Weekly Challenge July 14 - July 20 This challenge might be the easiest one yet - well not in terms of doing, but in terms of writing. I was looking for a way to incorporate sparkpeople tools into our challenge, when BATHMOM pointed out the "Healthy Lifestyle Scale". For those who don't know where that is go to "View sparkpoints" and on the list is the "Healthy Lifestyle Scale". Simply plug in some figures for the day and BAM! it tells you how healthy you are being (and you get 2 points from sparkpeople).

SOOOOO, ... Fri, 11 Jul 2008 13:39:11 EST How do I start a MOPS group in my area? I see most of you actually belong to a MOPS group. How did you get involved? Did any of you start your own chapter? If so, how?

I live in a rural area outside of Memphis. Memphis does have a MOPS group, but that is nearly 40 miles away. I really don't want to travel that far especially with the price of gas. I have a few friends with toddlers so I'm pretty sure I could start one up. I just don't know how to go about creating an "official" organization.

Thanks! <BR... Wed, 9 Jul 2008 19:11:38 EST Name your MOPS group I need some help. When I took over as MOPS coordinator last year, our group was just called "The Wednesday night MOPS group." It has been that way for the 2 years before me. A day group started last year and they named themselves "Hopeful Heart MOPS". I really want to have a real name for us. I sent out an email last week to my group and even offered a $20 gift card to Target as a reward for coming up with the best name, and I haven't gotten any responses at all!! So I was wondering if ... Tue, 8 Jul 2008 13:39:47 EST Goal and nutrient for the week I thought maybe if we posted this to each other we could help hold each other accountable.

I am going to track my fiber this week. SP says I should have between 25-35g per day.
My goal for the week is to loose 2 lbs. I am starting the week at 179 and would love to end the week at 177!!
Go Team!! Sun, 6 Jul 2008 23:32:06 EST Question about tracking nutrients If you take a multi vitamin, do you add that to the nutrients you are tracking? For example, I always track my calcium. I am suppose to get between 100-150% a day. My vitamin already has 45%. Should I track my vitamin in my nutrition log so it can count towards my 100-150?
Since we are tracking nutrients next week, I thought that this would be good to know. I am going to track fiber which my vitamin doesn't add too, but thought I would still ask the question anyways. Sat, 5 Jul 2008 23:45:27 EST first time for everything I am finally getting serious about my weightloss. and need as much help i can get i am not just getting healthy for myself i am getting healthy for my two babies Camarielynn 18months and Ashton 3 i dont want them to go throw what i went through being over weight and inactive
so if you would like to explain this community and posting thing to me i am willing to learn and can someone explain the sparks rewards to me as well are they real items you get or that you buy yourself
if that ... Sat, 5 Jul 2008 11:16:11 EST My New Jeans So my reward for finally getting under 200 was a new pair of jeans. I'm finding that people don't always notice the weight loss when you are still sporting those old oversized fat clothes. Not that other people noticing my weight loss is a goal, but when your nearly 40lbs into it and very few people seem to notice it gets kinda fustrating.

Anyway, I'm not going to get into that rant, this is a positive post.

The big news is that June was a very stressful Month. I have already had some great suggestions but would like some more!
198 Crystal Tue, 10 Jun 2008 22:27:07 EST June Pedometer Challenge FYI. One of the June Monthly challenges is a pedometer/step challenge. I know our MOPS challenge last week was for the pedometer, but keep wearing your pedometer this month to see if we can reach 3,000,000 steps.

Tue, 10 Jun 2008 21:19:41 EST Well So Much For Weight Watchers I am down 6 lbs since starting 7 weeks ago.
But, my body was just having major issues & I couldn't figure out why.
Well I took some tests on Thursday and found out 79 Oh Yeah, I am with child.
It came totally unexpected!
But I guess God has a different plan than my husband & I do for our lives.
So, I guess I will be here more often.
I don't want to gain too much during this pregnancy, and would like to ultimately 'loose' during the pregnancy.
Whic... Tue, 10 Jun 2008 13:39:12 EST Friends Can I add any of you gals as a friend. I've only added the lead gals of each of my Spark Teams, but what fun is that? (No offense to the lead gals of course!) Mon, 9 Jun 2008 23:42:24 EST Dumb Question Ok, I have a dumb question about sparkpages. The area where all my friends are listed-is there a way to rearrange the way my friends are listed? There are some I keep in touch with a lot and some not as often. I'm just weird (anal?) enough to want to have the friends I contact more often in front where I can see them. Does anyone know?? Mon, 9 Jun 2008 22:28:34 EST Kids' Eating Habits My 4 year old, Beth, has been quite varied in how much she will eat day to day. Yesterday, we barely got her to eat a single bite at any meal and a few pieces out of her snacks. Today before 10am, she finished off almost 2 slices of toast, 1/2 banana, 1/2 an apple, and 16 grapes!

Sometimes she will come tell us she's hungry, eat a bite or two out of what we gave her and say she's full. Then 10 minutes later she will say she's hungry again, but won't eat what she already has. ... Mon, 9 Jun 2008 15:40:44 EST Fruit and Veggie Servings I have been trying to find an article on SP about how to accurately measure a fruit/veggie serving. Up until now I just basically guess if it one or two servings I ate or what ever. I can't find anything on this. If you know of a great article about this, please let me know. Thanks Mon, 9 Jun 2008 14:29:23 EST Strength Training What kinds of strength training are you guys going to do for the challenge this week? Mon, 9 Jun 2008 14:03:56 EST Team Map? So I just discovered the team map at the bottom of the page. It's fascinating to see where some of the MOPS team is from. But how do I get added to the map? I live in Cincinnati and that's not marked on the map anywhere. Can anyone help me? Please? Sat, 7 Jun 2008 11:01:02 EST Food plan for the week I thought I would start this thread to help us share our plan for the challenge this week and to help keep each other accountable.

I plan to track everything I eat and stay in my calorie range. I have been tracking my food daily for 3 months now, but the past few weeks I can't seem to stay in my calorie range. I had been averaging 2 lbs weight loss a week up until the past few weeks also. I am 3 lbs under my average weight loss. So, I know the lack of weight coming off is becau... Sat, 7 Jun 2008 00:25:57 EST MOPS Weekly Challenge June 9 - June 15 I try very hard to concentrate mostly on our activity level in this team, but I have known for a long time that controlling what we put in our mouths is the key to losing weight. So....

1. We are going to be very strict this week with our food plans. On your sparkpage, blog entry or just on the forum tell us about your food plan, whether it's counting calories, portion control, staying away from a particular type of food, etc... THEN we are going to stick to our plans each day t... Fri, 6 Jun 2008 19:15:54 EST What Have You Done To Keep Motivated? I recently reprinted the Membership Card & Pledge (listed on SparkPoints page), and posted one in my bedroom, one in the bathroom (near the scale lol), and one by my computer. I will probably put one on the fridge, as well, as a reminder of my efforts and what I need to do in order to achieve better health. Fri, 6 Jun 2008 15:27:56 EST sleep training? anyone tried it? I am ready to start my ds on sleep training and try to put him and me on a schedule. I've got to do something. Anyone tried sleep training?

It's really wreaked havoc on my exercise and my mental ability. My poor 3 year old is not getting his naps on time and cranky a lot more.

It's amazing how a little baby can really make you bonkers. My 3 year old slept very good from the start, but my 3 month old just hasn't figured out what he's supposed to do and when.
Fri, 6 Jun 2008 02:20:33 EST New to the team Hi everyone! I am the proud mom of a (almost) 2 year old boy. He is giving me a run for my money these past couple months and I know it's only going to get worse! He's hitting, biting, screaming and just down right stubborn (he gets it honestly, lol) I could definitely use some support..that's why I joined this group-I know you all can probably relate.(: Thu, 5 Jun 2008 13:13:49 EST Hey Ya'll! I've been a bit of a stranger lately. My computer has been giving me the hardest time EVER!
I am hoping to get it back today, and get more active, after I get somethings done for my PC business.
Anyways, things are going good w/ me & WW. It seems to be what I needed.
I have lost a total of 7 lbs in about 4 weeks doing it.
I will update more later!
Miss you all & especially the challenges!!!
~Melissa Thu, 5 Jun 2008 10:33:37 EST Hello I am new Hello to all!
