But I very much like the thought of being petite and hope to lose enough weight to actually feel like it! :) Tue, 31 Jul 2012 15:50:04 EST Intro Hi all! I'm not exactly new... I've been off and on Sparkpeople for years now! I thought that it was high time that I get involved, and hopefully that will motivate me to lose weight. Over the course this past year I've managed to gain back 10 pounds that I had lost. I know that this can be attributed to my poor eating habits and lack of exercise. I understand what I need to do to lose weight (I've done it before), but I'm finding it difficult to find the motivation to do so. It is diff... Then I had a stressful teaching job and slowly put on 10 pound a year for the two years I taught there. I have a better job now, but have been unable to lose those 20 pounds. Not sure if it is realistic ... Sun, 11 Sep 2011 15:49:15 EST This is fabulous..... That there is a team for petite women who I believe for sure to have special challenges.

I am 5'1" (used to be 5'2"), 63 years old, and weighed in at 110 this morning.

I am a "refugee" from WW and after losing 100 pounds and maintaining for some months on their previous program got really mixed up on their new one. I had to eat less than the weight loss points just to maintain, I posted on the message boards but got no reply, although I did hear it through the grapevine... Sun, 28 Aug 2011 14:34:19 EST Jeans that fit. Hi. I'm new to the team and very happy to be here.

Despite what my driver's license says, truth be told I'm 4'11" and I have the hardest time finding cloths that fit. I currently own one (and only one) pair of jeans from Old Navy that I really don't like, but they fit okay. They're starting to get a little snug in the thighs (from muscles from Spinning).

I went to Banana Republic the other day and got a pair of petite jeans there because I heard they were supposed to b... Thu, 25 Aug 2011 10:14:14 EST Hello everyone! Wow! I am so glad to have found this group. Weight issues for small women are definitely unique. I myself am a 27 year old woman who is 5' 1.5" (I always have to make sure people know it's one and a HALF inches... LOL). I am definitely an apple shape and gain most of my weight in my stomach and arms which, I fear, due to my small frame makes me look "squat". The upside is that everyone says I have nice legs... still, I really hope to lose 40 or so pounds (I am at 160 now, working on trying to... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 14:28:21 EST Petite Granny in Cincinnati I think I qualify for this group....4' 7" , lol. Hubby said he actually saw someone my size at the mall yesterday. I doubt it, usually I'm shorter than most. Why is it the tall guys like the short girls? Hubby is 6'.

I have come to a conclusion about my treadmill and jogging. For some reason, most of the articles I see about jogging put a 15min/mile at a walk. I kid you not, when I do a 15min/mile on the treadmill, it's a good pace for a jog. Hey, these little legs are goi... Fri, 5 Aug 2011 04:59:17 EST Introduction Hello!

I've been on SP regularly since early June of this year. I have struggled with my weight since I was a teenager, I'd lose and be very thin and then regain weight. I began exercising regularly and eating more healthfully in my late 20's and for a long time my weight didn't seem to be a huge issue. As I entered my 40's the pounds began creeping on, then I'd diet, then back on...I just turned 50 this year and decided that I needed to find a better way...I might even have to ... Wed, 20 Jul 2011 10:07:51 EST Herro! (intro) Hey there, everyone! As you all probably know, it totally sucks that a 5 lb. increase on shorter frames tend to be more noticeable than on taller framed people (LUCKIES!), and I've definitely been battling weight issues for years.

I'm 5'0", 140 lbs, but I've seen/felt what it's like to be strong and fit at 115 (had to work super HARD to get there, probably why I petered out and am back to where I am) and am determined to get back into my size 5's and not constantly compare myself t... Thu, 30 Jun 2011 17:34:28 EST Hello there Everyone... Wanted to introduce myself, and am not sure I am doing this correctly...
I am *very* short, 4"4', and weigh 115 1/2 lbs, down one pound from a week ago. Yeah! I have a genetic bone disorder that causes them to break easily, which is why I am so short. It makes doing strenous exercise difficult, but I can walk with a walker, and for long distances I can use a wheelchair, and I can swim as well. I've been keeping my calories around the 1200-1250 range, and seeing how that goes, and for... Mon, 20 Jun 2011 23:19:43 EST Hello everyone
Hi everyone I've just joined the group.

My name is Emily and I live in the UK. I am 4' 8" tall and just under 8 stone (112lbs?). I thought I would join the group because as I have got older I have had more trouble keeping weight off - so I am open to ideas!

Emily
Sat, 18 Jun 2011 09:54:13 EST Hi Everyone! I'm 5'2" (and 3/4") but I tend to leave that part off because I'm still short either way 30
I am trying to get down to 115lbs initially and then I will reevaluated and possibly get down to 100lbs. I am at 149 right now and started at 178 in January. Since I am short, 178 was waaaay overweight for my height. Odd thing is no one would have ever guessed I weighed that much and a lot of people have been surprised when I tell them my starting weight. Luckily/Unluckily most of my we... Hello all,

Just thought I'd take a moment and introduce myself! My name is Samantha and I'm 26 years old from Kansas City, MO. I think it's wonderful that I found this group as lets face it weight tends to have a much bigger impact most of the time towards OUR kind ( petite, shorter people).

As a 5'1" ( and a half ) person :) I understand how weight has played an even bigger effect in my life on my short frame towards appearence and medically. **knock on wood** I don'... Mon, 16 May 2011 01:50:37 EST Hi, it's been awhile. Hi, I am Justine. I was on here two years ago and managed to lose fifteen pounds. I ended up gaining that back plus some. I reached 181 and decided it was time to lose weight. I am now at 155. My next goal is to get to 140. My ultimate goal is to be in the 'normal' weight range at 132. Hope to meet some new people and what not! Sun, 15 May 2011 20:04:01 EST I'm shrinking ! I was 5'3" and was at the doctor in the past month (twice) - - they measured height & weight and the nurse said for sure I was 5' 2.5 " - - No wonder my kids seem so much bigger ! Recently graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree...and lots of extra weight. At 5'2, my heaviest weight was at 200 lbs. In the last year, I've come down to about 150 lbs, and I'm here on Spark People to get rid of that extra 25 lbs. Hello, I am new here, but this website is AMAZING...

Though I have always been a shorty, untill the last year or so I have never been "petite" I was as big around as I was tall. I have in the last 3 years lost 85lbs and its been amazing on my health. But how do you learn to be comfortable in your own skin. Fri, 1 Apr 2011 11:02:13 EST This business with calories Hi:

I'm 5'1" and 61 so I pretty much have no metabolism anymore. I was told by a dietician that I should be eating 1200 calories a day. Ok. I did that and exercised for two weeks. Also, my exercise board on this site says I have to burn over 800 calories a day. By the way, the food I'm eating is very healthy. Also ate 6 times a day to keep the non existent metablosm going. I gained a pound. No, that's not much, but that's not the direction I want to go in. This is not about vanity... Mon, 28 Mar 2011 10:39:37 EST I Need to Get Over Myself Hi! I am stuck in a bad way. I think I have a mental block about being small. I am 5'0" and have been struggling to get under 130 for 6 months. This is uncharted territory for me. Even saying petite sounds weird because even though I am short, I have NEVER considered myself petite. Any help or tips for breaking this plateau are welcomed. Hi all!

Thanks for letting me join up! It's so funny to think of myself as "petite," as I was considered so tall growing up (I've been 5'4.5" [I won't give up that .5" for anything! 20 ] since the 4th grade!)

I think being shorter, we have additional and different challenges to face than our "average" height counterparts.

I'm a bit of a "lurker" and someone who tends to stay on the periphery and in the background. I have been 150 pounds and 110 pounds, and as you know, every pound shows on a petite woman. I am currently trying to take my life back and lose this weight! I am currently 138.8 pounds, and my bone size is LARGE. So I'm a perfect petite in height (5'2") but I'm extra heavy thanks to my bones. My measurements are 38/27/36. I'm 5'4 and have a small frame, and it's frustrating sometimes because my fiance and I are both losing weight together. Problem is, he is 6'3, 320 lbs, and has a large frame, so his caloric needs are completely different from mine! He eats 2200 a day in order to lose weight, but I can't go over 1500 and I try to keep it at 1400. He worries that I don't eat enough, but I have to keep it low!

It's also frustrating when I tell people I'm trying to lose 45 pounds. THey think that's a l... Sun, 9 Jan 2011 17:07:55 EST Best Exercise for Petites Being vertically challenged can make exercising at a gym a trying experience. Wed, 27 Oct 2010 15:21:47 EST Weight Loss for Petite Women By Jorge Cruise, Chief Diet and Fitness Expert
Published October 25, 2010
For weight loss, women who are short in stature (5’3’’ or less) and weigh 150 pounds or less should eat a small, nutritious meal every three hours. But as you lose weight, you should adjust your diet accordingly. Why? Because smaller women may plateau more quickly when dieting, compared to someone who has more weight to lose or is taller. A larger body burns more calories. That’s all there is to it. <B... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:18:16 EST Adorable Blog For Petites !! Thu, 14 Oct 2010 14:11:15 EST Anyone do small portions instead of calories?? I'm torn between simply eating small portions and counting calories. I hate to think about the calories in everything I eat (b/c I don't want it to get obsessive) but I know it is very effective. Has anyone just eaten small portions instead? Has that worked for you? I read this great book called the Portion Teller which talks about how to eat so many servings from each food group instead of counting calories. What do you think?? Tue, 12 Oct 2010 10:37:45 EST Does anyone prefer to walk instead of run?? I know brisk walking doesn't burn as many calories as running but I have just lost my love for running lately. Does anyone else walk for excercise instead of run? Sometimes I feel like I'm wimping out because there is no physical reason why I can't run...I just don't like to lately. I played soccer in high school and ran for fitness afterwards. I have been trying to get back into running shape after having my baby and have found that I just don't enjoy it like I use too. Wed, 7 Apr 2010 02:28:42 EST Just found this team, I'm 5'3" I come from an Italian heritage on my mom's side. My mom, her brother and her mom (grandma) are barely 5'. I've not had a problem with weight until after baby #6 & #7 especially. I was 43 when last child was born, she's 5 now. My usual weight was 110# max. Now I'm up to 139/140. The weight won't go down from here. I have an apple shape which doctors say is not healthy heart-wise. It's tough being shorter as any excess calories show up pronto !! Thu, 1 Apr 2010 03:26:23 EST What has worked for you? Hi guys.. new to the group! I see many people in here are wondering about how many calories to eat, how much to workout.. Though I have a few lbs I'd like to lose I don't think I'm fat. But whenever I try on those stinkin' skinny jeans I can barely get them up my calves. Or if they fit they don't look very flattering because I don't have very long legs. Doesn't make me feel better about being short.

The other day I was passing by Forever 21 and went inside because they had a jean sale. I haven't bought ... Mon, 15 Mar 2010 18:08:46 EST Good things come in small packages Hi all,

I'm not new to SP but just recently became an active member. I sign on everyday to remind myself that I really want to lose weight (this time for good) and take better care of myself. It's easy to lose sight of these goals, especially when I'm stressed and really feel like I just wanna eat 15 chocolate bars...and alot of other things.

Anyway, I'm almost 26 and I'm 5'0. Pear-shaped Latina, so I have some booty that I really wish would go away. In high school ... Sun, 14 Mar 2010 16:52:39 EST Short but Sweet! Hello All! My name is Amy, I'm 31 from SC. I'm 5'3 barefooted but I'm one of those women who like to wear a heel to add a little height lol! My BF says this is ridiculous not only b/c I'm clumsy but because in his opinion men prefer short women.. I weigh 141 which is ten pounds more than I weighed last year. My lowest weight was 126 but if I could just get down to 130 again I'd be happy. I'm wishing us ALL luck!! Sat, 13 Mar 2010 13:33:43 EST Help! What's Your Calorie Range?? I am sorry if this topic has been beaten to death but I hope I am not the only newbie who is confused. I have been eating 1100-1200 calories a day and lost roughly two pounds a week totaling 16 pounds. Then over the past two weeks it has dropped to nada.

So I began working out five times a week burning roughly 600 calories a day and upped my caloric range to 1300-1500 calories. Andd....I've gained a pound so far. Ugh. I would love to think I've added muscle but my Omron fat analyz... Wed, 10 Mar 2010 20:22:25 EST Hi! I'm new here... Hadn't really considered my height when I embarked upon my quest to reduce my size, but it is definitely a consideration sometimes. So I've joined this group to be among others who encounter and conquer the challenges of life on the short side! Being small has never been an issue for me, in fact I rarely think of it until it's (rudely) pointed out to me. Love my height, and I love being me! Fri, 22 Jan 2010 13:03:33 EST Fun-sized :-) Hello, all! I'm new to this team. My name is Rachel and I'm 4'11". How do you all choose a goal weight? Right now I have my goal set between 110-113, which is about 5 pounds less than I weighed in high school. I just feel like any less than that is going to be too thin, but all the calculators say I should weigh close to 100.

Any thoughts? Tue, 12 Jan 2010 10:11:15 EST Barely Petite at 5'4 Hi there, my name is Melissa. I always used to give my friends a funny look when they said I was petite, the look that said they were from Mars. Frankly, I figured I was too fat to be considered petite. But as I have lost weight, I have discovered that leaving the plus size sections of stores, I had to head directly to the petite section...or look like I was wearing someone else's clothes. So I am actually petite, not just shorter. It was news to me!

My first big weight goal is ju... Sun, 29 Nov 2009 18:09:16 EST Anyone eating less than 1,000 calories? Hello PWs: One of the challenges of being stumpy is the need to carefully watch one's caloric input. Today for lunch I had a turkey sandwich with cheese & a peach. Normal whole wheat bread, 3 oz. turkey, one oz. normal (not lite or low fat) cheese with mustard. Over 500 calories! That's not a big lunch - but 500 cals is 1/3 of my recommended calories (and that's at the high end of my recommendations - I'm 5' even). I look at the meal plans and many of them are over 500 calories. I can st... Tue, 4 Aug 2009 17:37:03 EST Hi Everyone! hello, my name is Jill i'm 25 and i am 5'2".
