SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard We will discuss low carb lifestyles (including Atkins,Protein Power, South Beach and other doctor-recommended low carb plans), trade low carb recipes and team up to do this together! SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard Thursday Not much planned for the day. Will take Russell for a walk - probably a short one since I'm a bit sore from mowing yesterday. Go to Mom's house and go over her revised power of attorney and living will. (The current ones have Dad as primary - he died 9 years ago - and me as the only alternate. We need to get at least one more alternate on there.) Stop and get gas for the car and the lawnmower. Take stuff to recycling. Then back home to do not much of anything for the rest of the day.
<... Thu, 24 Jun 2021 09:53:09 EST Wednesday I guess everyone posted on the other forum yesterday.

High of 103 here yesterday, 20 degrees above normal. Very high winds for a while last night, which brought in some cool. Delightful at the moment, and high of "only" 94 today. Should stay cool long enough for me to walk Russel and then mow the lawn - if I don't keep putting it off! Thawed some pork which I'll cook in the slow cooker so I'll have it for salads and such so I don't have to cook. Though, come to think of it, I need ... Wed, 23 Jun 2021 09:00:34 EST Monday And the first full day of summer! Sure hope it doesn't get any hotter than it has been lately.

Had a pretty lazy weekend. Need to get back into the groove of things today. Lots of little things need to be done - dishes, put away laundry, some work in the yard and garden, a bit of tidying up, things like that.

I hope my handyman will be here today. He said he'd be here Thursday afternoon - had to unclog a sewer line Thursday morning - but didn't show up and I didn't hea... Mon, 21 Jun 2021 09:31:53 EST Sunday Probably a fairly typical summer Sunday today. Take Russell for a walk before it gets too hot. Do grocery shopping for Mom and for me. If I remember, stop by Costco and fill up with gas. Go to Mom's house and do her laundry, refill her pill boxes, and play a game or two. Water my outside plants. Will also finish sorting a laundry basket of papers I swept away when back in 2018 to get the house tidied up for company.

High of "only" 90 today. Six days forecasted to be in the 100s in... Sun, 20 Jun 2021 09:35:44 EST Saturday I can't believe I'm starting the page - it's 3:30pm.

Been a busy day for me - just moved from one thing to another.

I did hit the Y this morning and did strength training (upper & lower) and also met with my friends.

Finished my audio book for next month's book club - didn't care much for the ending.

It's a hot muggy day - so just trying to stay cool.

Take care all and enjoy the rest of the day.

Sat, 19 Jun 2021 15:32:04 EST Friday Whew! What a relief! We have to have our sprinkler systems backflow tested each year. It's due by the end of May. Mom's wasn't done, and her sprinkler water wasn't turned on. I kept asking her about it and she kept saying that Kurt (who has taken care of her sprinklers for decades) was taking care of it. Well, he wasn't, and he didn't return my calls. Then Mom got a notice from the City saying that they would turn her water off if she didn't get the backflow testing done by next Tuesday! A br... Fri, 18 Jun 2021 10:50:39 EST Thirsty Thursday Sure seems like it should either be Thursty Thursday (which I tried first) or Thirst Thirsday. Crazy English spelling!

I mowed the whole lawn yesterday! All of it - front, back and sides - all in one day! It's the first time I've been able to do that this year. I had sort of planned (or hoped) to do the whole thing in one session, but my steam was running out about the same time the lawnmower's gas ran out, so I quit and got back to it later. And my knees didn't bother me at all, e... Thu, 17 Jun 2021 11:12:44 EST Wakeful Wednesday Which is to say it's 05:35 and I have not slept. Totally my fault, I let myself get caught up in a new book, and when I looked up it was 04:30. So I just finished off the book I was reading when the new book arrived. And here we are.

Hardly seems worthwhile to go to bed, especially since the dogs will need breakfast in 2 or 3 hours at most. And the sun is up.

Feh! Wed, 16 Jun 2021 08:38:11 EST Tuesday Wow! Not much activity on the daily thread yesterday.

Supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler today than yesterday. Still about 10 degrees above normal, but I'll take what I can get. Especially since I don't have any choice about it anyway!

Will play cards this afternoon. First time in well over a year. Like since March a year ago! I know that some of the ladies played during the pandemic, inside and unmasked. And I think that not all of them were vaccinated. Fingers cr... Tue, 15 Jun 2021 09:41:14 EST Monday Didn't sleep well last night, and was awake about 5:30 so decided to get up and open up the house and hope some cool comes in. High yesterday was 104. Previous record high was 91. High today of 100, previous record was 96. Average high for today is 80.

Need to mow. Want to get it done as early as possible, though not obnoxiously early. I've heard commercial lawn services mowing about 8, so that's probably about when I'll do it. Should be in the low 70s from 8 til 9.

Hav... Mon, 14 Jun 2021 08:24:53 EST Sunday Not being very productive today, and don't have a good reason either. Ah well. Guess I'll just try to enjoy the day!

Happy Sunday all!
Sun, 13 Jun 2021 13:41:53 EST Just joined up Hi everyone, I just joined your team. I know, crazy right beings it is all going away soon. I've been on SP for a few years and feel sad that I missed your team during my browsing of teams. Woubbie is on another team I'm on and suggested the new forum for that team. I checked out this team on the forum and joined up there too. Woubbie suggested i join here to keep up to date on what is going on.

I'm 78 and have a few conditions that slow me down but I like to be low carb. ... Sat, 12 Jun 2021 19:23:08 EST Saturday I think I'll go to the Farmers Market this morning. First time this year, and I think I only went twice last year. They moved it to the parking lot of the mall, instead of a park. Much nicer at the park! Much more Russell-friendly, too. Wasn't much of a FM last year, which may have been because of the pandemic. Poor farmers who mostly produce for the FM! Attendance was way down and they didn't even know whether there would be a FM until the very last minute. Hmm. I need to find out whether th... Sat, 12 Jun 2021 09:16:09 EST Friday The folks who clean for Mom just texted and said they were quitting. They said Mom complains all the time and no one else they clean for complains. Sigh. I told Mom this and she said she doesn't know what they were talking about. She didn't complain. Mom may not have complained yesterday, but she does tend to have a critical and negative attitude. And she wants the folks who used to clean for her to come back. I told Mom we needed to find someone else and she said, "No problem. In a couple of... Fri, 11 Jun 2021 12:42:39 EST Thursday A cold day today. High of 59. Mostly highs in the 90s for the next two weeks. Average high is upper 70s. Cloudy, too, but unfortunately no rain.

Will do grocery shopping for Mom and me this morning - Winco for sure, maybe Costco. Dollar Tree for a graduation card for Mom to send to GGD. Then to her house for the rest of the morning.

Other than that, mostly just puttering. Thu, 10 Jun 2021 09:52:39 EST Wednesday High today of 85. High tomorrow of only 58! High Saturday of 99, and then into the 100s. Crazy. Temp at the moment of 59.

Will mow the backyard again today. The grass was so high that it clogged the mower, and went back onto the yard instead of into the bag. And a lot of it got bent over instead of cut, too. Hope that mowing it again after only a couple of days will get it back in shape. And should be a whole lot easier than mowing it when it's taller than Russell! (though Russell... Wed, 9 Jun 2021 09:36:38 EST Tuesday Today will probably be a Mom day. I'll go over there this morning for a couple of hours. And as long as I'm over there, I'll probably go to the library. Might drop in the auction place and see if they have anything I'm interested in. Other than that, just some puttering.

High today of 81, sunny and slightly breezy. Beautiful weather!

Oh, and I want to go to the nursery and pick up some plants. I finally got my planters ready, and it's getting awfully late. Not sure what... Tue, 8 Jun 2021 09:16:08 EST Monday I said yesterday that I would go to the exercise classes at the Senior Center this week. Well, I'm not. I called this morning to make sure they were being held, and the center is closed for at least a couple of weeks. I'm off the hook this week! But I will go later.

Got the front yard mowed yesterday and most of the back. Will wait until this evening to finish, give the grass a chance to dry out from the dew. At least I assume it's damp. Makes a good excuse, anyway. Coolish today, ... Mon, 7 Jun 2021 11:18:07 EST The end of Spark People? Apparently Spark People is closing up shop, beginning in August. We need to start thinking about how we on this team will stay together.

/wellness_articles.asp?id=2659

Assuming this is true, that is. I can only find the article through someone else's blog. Anyone know anything more about it? Sun, 6 Jun 2021 09:35:02 EST Sunday Things should be more or less back to what I laughingly call "normal" today. DB (staying at Mom's house) leaves today, so it will be back to just Mom and me, each in our own house. DBs have been in and out for almost two weeks. And it's cooled way down - still about 5 degrees above average, but down more than 20 degrees from Thursday! That will make a huge difference, too. And my knees are pretty much back to "normal," too. Still bother me some, but not nearly as bad as they were a few days a... Sun, 6 Jun 2021 09:29:11 EST Saturday The sun is shining here, looks like a beautiful day out there!

Hopefully I'll be working on my porch today. I got a new batch of silk flowers yesterday from Dollar Tree. I've trimmed the stems, just need to arrange them in the two "planters" and set them out. And yes, I put silk flowers outside all year long.

I have one large pot that I rotate peonies, hydrangea, "dried" chrysanthemums, and poinsettias through, and two smaller pots on stands that I put smaller flowers in... Sat, 5 Jun 2021 10:24:43 EST Friday! I can't believe it's Friday again! To be fair, the week was a bit chopped up, with the Monday holiday. And DH took Tuesday off to go and visit his mom, so I saw him even less than usual this week.

I'm hoping to get a few household projects back under progress this weekend. I decided to start back where I started back last fall, the pantry and kitchen. The idea was that I'd focus on getting the pantry totally redone, and spread out from there. So, there are swatches and swathes in t... Fri, 4 Jun 2021 10:13:34 EST Thursday At least I think it is. Isn't it?

My cold/allergies are much better this morning. I'll give it another day and then start going over to Mom's house again. I was pretty sure it wasn't COVID (I'm fully vaccinated), but I did spend a couple of days in very close proximity (including hugs) with a bunch of people, some of whom are not vaccinated. Mom's fully vaccinated, too, but I figure better safe than sorry. The problem with the shots keeping folks from getting very sick rather than... Thu, 3 Jun 2021 09:55:36 EST Wednesday Supposed to get hot today (mid-90s), so I'm enjoying having all the windows open and cuddling under a blanket while I can. One good thing about living in a desert - nights are almost always cool.

Will probably go over to Mom's house this morning for a little bit. A very little bit. DB wants to get a family picture, but I don't want to take a chance on being sick and passing it on to Mom. I feel fine, but still have a raspy voice.

Why are good habits so much easier to b... Tue, 1 Jun 2021 11:07:18 EST Tuesday Had a great time in Montana. The weather was perfect, the scenery beautiful, and it was great seeing all the cousins. And one day was the perfect amount of time to spend on it!

I was definitely the decrepit one. I really really really need to get working on my knees and hips. And weight. I'm quite sure that regular exercise of the right kinds would make my hips and knees work better and would make my knees hurt a lot less. I wasn't able to get into my cousins car because I couldn't... Tue, 1 Jun 2021 10:49:45 EST Memorial Monday It's a beautiful but cool day here so far. I'm getting off to a slow start, which is okay. I got a lot done on Saturday so I'm gonna coast on that for a bit!

Nothing special planned for the day. DH is cooking up some ribs from Aldi. I'm going to work on one of my WoW Classic characters. There's a new/old expansion hitting tomorrow. (It's complicated: they're rebooting the original versions of WoW from 2004 and 2007, so I've already played through this content a million times, but..... Mon, 31 May 2021 12:51:36 EST June Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. As with other challenges, you decide on what you want your budget to be and when you will report. We are here to support one another in whatever our personal goals may be!
Mon, 31 May 2021 11:28:21 EST Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend edition I guess everyone's busy socializing this weekend, so I'll get this party started!

I did a TON of shopping yesterday, and I think I slightly overdid it, so today I'm mostly just resting and digesting. Started a probiotic last night, I hope it's effective!

Kyle got his second Moderna shot and HUZZAH! No side effects!

Yesterday while out shopping I took a chance on a new food place, and fortunately all is (relatively) well in my gut biome. A friend had told me ab... Sun, 30 May 2021 15:35:08 EST Saturday Off to Montana in about an hour. Planning to have a swell weekend. Hope you have one, too! Sat, 29 May 2021 08:09:35 EST Friday Happy Friday, all!

My fingers were crossed that I would feel a lot better today than I have been and that I would go gangbusters on some of the work that's been neglected the last few months, but it's really just some incremental progress. I'LL TAKE IT!

Still have a jumpy stomach and gut and still can't stand or walk for too long at a stretch, but each day is getting a little better.

Today I'm just focusing on catching up on laundry and basic housekeeping so I... Fri, 28 May 2021 13:17:27 EST Thursday Got up about 6 am to put the fresh pork picnic in the oven. It needs to cook for about 10 hours (I'm allowing a little bit more in case it's not completely thawed in the middle), and then about an hour at the end to let it rest and to crisp up the skin. It's a lovely cut of meat and doesn't take any work once it's in the oven, but it's awfully early to be up!

For some reason I seem to feel that, just because I have company, and even though the company is actually staying at Mom's ... Thu, 27 May 2021 08:40:12 EST Wednesday Rats! I thought I had set my alarm to get up and see the Super Blood Flower Moon Total Lunar Eclipse (and then go back to bed!), but apparently I didn't. Oh well. I've seen total lunar eclipses before. I had planned to get up at 5 for the 5:11 total eclipse, and woke up at 5:30. Realized I'd missed it and went back to sleep.

DB Don got into town yesterday, DB Nick and SIL, arrive this afternoon. Still have done practically nothing when it comes to cleaning house, though I did get m... Wed, 26 May 2021 09:10:02 EST Tuesday Busy day today. Busier than it "should" be because I didn't do stuff yesterday.

Take the car in and get it serviced this morning, and get the spare tire and kit installed. Stupid car didn't come with a spare. I'm hoping they'll clean the car while they have it, so cleared everything out of it. Fingers crossed.

Dug around in the freezer to find the pork picnic roast I'm planning to serve Thursday night. At the very very bottom, of course. And I didn't have time to invento... Tue, 25 May 2021 10:14:15 EST Monday I was up a bit earlier than usual to call my PCP for an appointment. Two weeks of antibiotics have finally done a number on my stomach and gut and I need to get some diagnostics done. I got a 2:00 appointment.

It always feels like a stressful competition to try to schedule a same day appointment with them. They open the phone lines at around 8am, sometimes a few minutes earlier and sometimes a few minutes later. It reminds me of calling the radio station trying to enter a contest a... Mon, 24 May 2021 11:59:50 EST Hello Restarting Hi I am Sandy and I haven't been on since 2016 and it time to focus on me again. I am here to get back on track and to be accountable for my actions. I put everyone else first these past few years and let myself go. Well no more it my time now. I rejoined spark people and this is a new beginning . I know I can do it. I did it before .. Would love to met new friends who will motivate me and support me, I am restarting low carb eating . looking for all the help and advice... Sun, 23 May 2021 18:22:57 EST Sunday Exciting week coming up.

My Montana cousins are having a celebration of their Dad's life over Memorial Day weekend, and all of my generation (which is only 9 of us, plus a few spouses) will be there. We'll be arriving from Vancouver, Portland, Idaho (me down south and DB up north), Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, Florida, and Alabama. Literally coast to coast - Nick is on a salt water canal in Florida and Barb is somewhere in Vancouver. Also north to south - Bill is close to th... Sun, 23 May 2021 09:41:31 EST Saturday Sun's out today, though it's still cool. It rained last night, which is good. We need it.

Nothing planned for today. Just normal puttering stuff.

Hope you have a great day! Sat, 22 May 2021 09:43:33 EST Friday Kyle and I are both in sync today, and feeling like getting some stuff done! In my case it's mostly just the deep cleaning that I have been neglecting for the last few months. In his, it's shopping and organizing for some projects he's got going on.

We got the window AC put in yesterday; it's already getting uncomfortably warm out. I love temps in the 70's. As soon as it hits the 80 mark I tend to crawl back into my room to stay cool and comfy. Maybe this year I'll also spend more ... Fri, 21 May 2021 12:54:29 EST Thursday I ache today. Not terribly, but I definitely ache all over. No idea why, but I wish it would quit.

High today of 62. High tomorrow of 57. Brr.

I'm going to Montana for Memorial Day weekend. That's just a week away! I need to make a list of the things I need to do before I go - and before my brothers come to town next week. And then I need to do the things on the list.

Last night I put the leftover pot roast in a container - and then forgot to put it in the fr... Thu, 20 May 2021 11:28:49 EST Wednesday It's late in the day - especially for you East Coasters!

Did a quick run to a grocery store to get some fruit for Mom this morning. Grocery ads come out today and I didn't want to do a "real" shopping at Winco until I knew what the sale prices elsewhere are. Then I went to her house and did some puttering and then played Monopoly with her. Came home, had leftover soup for lunch, put the chuck roast in the slow cooker (I had intended to put it in before I left), and a salesman came ... Wed, 19 May 2021 17:55:19 EST Help! Computer reservation problem We're having a family reunion (sort of) in Montana over Memorial Day weekend. The cousin who is organizing it gave us the name of a motel and the phone number. I made my reservation online, didn't receive a confirmation number. Today I wanted to change my reservation and called the motel. They didn't have my reservation. And they didn't have the kind of rooms the motel where I made my reservations had.

I have no idea what motel my reservations are at!

I checked all the... Tue, 18 May 2021 21:57:51 EST Tuesday I'm sore! I mowed the backyard last night, and the grass was really high and the lawnmower blades are probably all caked with grass. But it's done - at least for right now.

I asked the guy who put in my sprinkler system and lawn (such as it is!) why they set the sprinklers in the gardens to go off in the middle of the day, when city code says we're not allowed to water. He said it's because the gardens need extra water in the middle of the day, and not to worry - it's all good. WR... Tue, 18 May 2021 11:58:17 EST Monday I'll get things started today, since I need to be out and about a little earlier than usual.

My mom has her routine checkup today. The last one was virtual, back in February, and was really only a formality to enable her doctor to update her prescriptions. It'll be great to actually talk to the doc face to face. Luckily there's not too much of concern going on with mom, but she has been eating a little erratically lately. Her last kidney tests came back a little high, so I'm going ... Mon, 17 May 2021 10:43:33 EST Sunday Sunny and warm today - high around 80. Fortunately, the house is cool enough from yesterday's cool that it should stay nice inside even though it warms up outside.

Off to Mom's house shortly to do laundry and refill her pill boxes. I've decided to move grocery shopping to Thursdays. Spending an hour or so wandering around Winco doing our shopping and then making three trips up and down the stairs at her house doing laundry is hard on my knees.

Might actually get some st... Sun, 16 May 2021 11:34:33 EST Saturday A gray, cool, overcast day. A change, after the beautiful weather we've had lately. Hope the gray translates into rain. We need it.

Not much of anything planned for today. I called someone about re-roofing my house and he's supposed to come over sometime today. He's got lots of good reviews and a friend of a friend recommends him. Fingers crossed.

Soup for lunch since it's cool.

Have a great day! Sat, 15 May 2021 10:47:24 EST Friday Good news on the mask front!

Mom has an appointment with her CPA this morning to sign her returns and pay her taxes, then I'll take her over for another x-ray of her foot. Six weeks ago it was still healing, but still very slowly. She sees her PCP on Monday for a regular checkup. It will be good to actually talk to him face to face about the x-rays instead of the way we have been doing it - the radiologist sends a report to the doctor who tells the nurse who calls me and I tell Mo... Fri, 14 May 2021 10:58:14 EST Thursday Hunh. Somehow I missed yesterday's thread. It was probably because I dashed out at noon to pick up a new prescription and then forgot that I hadn't checked in.

There was a SNAFU on prescription from Tuesday, it went to the wrong pharmacy. Fortunately it was in the same town, so just had a 24 hour delay in getting it. So now I have another 9 days of amoxicillin.

I'm finding that I have a good deal of pain on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, probably because the doctor messes with... Thu, 13 May 2021 14:15:42 EST Wednesday It's Hump Day, for those of you who work a M-F job.

Got several bits of stuff done in the yard yesterday. I'm getting old, though - can't do very much at a time or my back and legs hurt. Of course, if I hadn't taken off the past year, they'd be used to doing more and probably wouldn't be a problem.

Woubbie, did Kyle end up with Lyme's disease or did the shot take care of it?

Debb, how did the dental surgery go?

More bits and pieces of yard work tod... Wed, 12 May 2021 11:28:24 EST Twosday! I have no idea what Twosday means, but that's what came out of my fingertips today!

Just getting back from my weekly woundcare appointment. Foot is still feeling better and better and doctor confirmed that it's looking pretty good. Maybe one or two more weeks to go.

They did switch my antibiotic from Bactrim to Amoxicillin, based on the culture they did last week. It wasn't ready at the drug store on my way home, so I'll need to pick it up later.

It's already ... Tue, 11 May 2021 14:11:00 EST Monday Had a good dinner last night. Expensive, and I ate way too much, but delicious. Even if we did eat an hour late because I forgot how long artichokes take to cook!

Was surprised that I only "gained" about half a pound. I expected more than that because of the volume of partially digested food in my system. As they say, "this too shall pass."

Looks to be another beautiful day, though a bit chilly. High of 62. I have four bales of "raised bed soil" in the back of my car and... Mon, 10 May 2021 09:58:19 EST Sunday - Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers out there! Those who are biologically mothers and also those who have helped to mother others.

DB is coming down for Mother's Day dinner at my house. He's bringing his car (instead of his monster truck that even I can't get in and out of!) so he can pick up Mom and bring her over. We're having Seafood Alfredo. Mom gets hers over pasta and Bill and I get ours over cauliflower. Did I tell you that Bill is going keto?

I'm down 26 pou... Sun, 9 May 2021 11:56:16 EST Saturday Another fairly busy week, I've been keeping up with the daily thread but not posting much.

Today I'm getting groceries and getting ready to host both my and DH's families tomorrow afternoon. Yes, it's Mother's Day, but it's also sort of a sending off for my DD and her husband who are moving to Colorado Springs. We're going to help them move, leaving next Saturday. Haven't decided yet how long we'll stay, but will probably be back the following Wednesday or Thursday. Since we misse... Sat, 8 May 2021 11:49:29 EST Friday Not a chatty group yesterday!

Yesterday was beautiful - high in the mid to upper 80s! High today of 62, and even cooler the next two days. But it is beautiful today, even if a lot cooler.

The guys who did such a horrible job on my lawn came today to turn on the sprinklers. They're having lots of problems with the sprinklers they installed last year.

Have to figure out how to sell some of Mom's stocks to pay her taxes. Hope it goes smoothly.

My kn... Fri, 7 May 2021 11:01:52 EST Thursday Gotta get moving, so this'll be quick. Kyle and I are heading downtown to drop off our primary ballots and pick up some chow on the way back.

I'm still on the antibiotics, but I'm back to using the collagen dressing on my foot and it feels much better than it has in many days. Still can't walk far, but I'm not wincing in pain just sitting at my desk. Whew! I've been going through Advil like there's no tomorrow!

Gonna go hit the road now, have a great day, all!

... Thu, 6 May 2021 13:08:15 EST Wednesday Feel sort of at loose ends today!

The sun is shining, practically no wind, sky is blue and high today is supposed to be 75. A beautiful day!

My knee is definitely feeling better, though not completely well yet. On Monday I was seriously trying to figure out how to get to a doctor to have it checked out. There's no I could have driven myself - it's my right knee that's bad and I couldn't put any pressure at all on it when it was at all bent. It's so much better!
<B... Wed, 5 May 2021 10:59:15 EST Tuesday And finals day. Sigh.

My knee is a bit better this morning. I think. It's better than it was yesterday afternoon and evening, anyway, though don't know whether that's just because I rested it (and the rest of me!) all night or whether it's actually better. Will be very circumspect with it again today.

And that's about all I have to say today. Will be very glad when exams are over so I can get to some of the other things I should be doing.

Have a great day! Tue, 4 May 2021 09:40:02 EST Monday A beautiful day today. Blue sky, a few puffy white clouds, light breeze. Coolish, though - high only in the low 60s. But very nice.

I did something to my knee yesterday. Don't know what, but it suddenly really hurt. I massaged it for a bit and it was better. Today it will hardly bend. Or rather, it will bend as long as there's no pressure or weight on it. And not very far, even then. Sure hope it gets well quickly. I'm glad I did Mom's laundry yesterday. I'm not at all sure I coul... Mon, 3 May 2021 16:27:08 EST Sunday Woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep, so went ahead and got up. I was going to spray the grass and weeds growing in the cracks in my patio, but it's too windy. Will go to Winco and shop for Mom and me, then over to her house to do her laundry, fix her pill boxes and whatever else needs done, and play a game or two. Then back home to study.

Really windy again yesterday late afternoon/early evening. Much less so this morning. Big drifts of petals that were blown off of the f... Sun, 2 May 2021 09:48:45 EST May Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. We are here to support one another in whatever our personal goals may be!
Sat, 1 May 2021 21:24:08 EST May's Monthly Challenge - Get outside and grow! Our team challenge for May is to get outside and grow. After a long winter it’s a time of renewal and growth in nature, so let’s focus on how we can renew and grow ourselves. I like to think of spring as emerging from a cocoon, seeing the world with new eyes and exploring all it has to offer. But I can't do that from my couch.

With that in mind, think about how you can incorporate some outdoor time into your day this month. Even if you don’t leave your yard, taking some time to s... Sat, 1 May 2021 12:27:36 EST Happy May Day! Are you giving anyone a May basket today?

Nothing officially planned for today, but lots to do. Especially lots of studying! Just my pile of flash cards, I'm guessing I have about 600 of them for Shoshoni. Some are duplicates, so I probably only have between 400 and 500 words to know. Well, plus another couple hundred for the object case of nouns, which have to be individually memorized since there's no rule about how they're formed. Plus the grammar, of course. Sure wish my brain... Sat, 1 May 2021 09:28:20 EST Friday And the week is almost over! And so is the month!

Mom and I are getting haircuts this afternoon. In her garage. The woman who has cut her hair for probably 30+ years retired at the end of the year but agreed to cut our hair at home. We'll see how it works. Mom and I are both so short that I don't know how Sherry can get to our level to cut. But Sherry said that she has some other women whose hair she cuts at home, so it must work.

High today of 89. Fortunately the house ... Fri, 30 Apr 2021 11:10:04 EST Thursday, almost June Good morning...
Spring got left behind,,, freezing a week ago, 80's and 90's all week here now... But last night on the deck about 65 as sun was setting, light breeze, no bugs, It was wonderful. And my allergies are slowly calming down.

The longer this mask thing goes on, the more I realize how much I read lips to "hear" what people are saying... And my hearing isn't all that bad. I feel sorry for the hearing impaired!

Well, on to a good day.... Thu, 29 Apr 2021 10:52:02 EST Wednesday I couldn't stay asleep once DH got up for work, just tossed and turned, so I got up uncharacteristically early, about 7am. My foot is throbbing slightly, even through 2 Advils. I'll give it 10 more minutes and then I'll take a third one. I rarely need to take more than one at a time, so I'm starting my day just a little bit irritated.
28
I ordered the new Smart TV from Best Buy, so hopefully we can go pick it up later today. We're not really ready to hook it up yet, but... Wed, 28 Apr 2021 09:07:36 EST Tuesday 524 Tue, 27 Apr 2021 13:16:46 EST Monday Blue skies and sunshine today. Woohoo!

I'm still hunkered down in my room for the most part, nursing that stupid foot nerve. I kinda want to say it feels a little better today, but I don't wanna jinx myself.

I told Kyle this morning that I'm beginning to resemble a flamingo, standing at the kitchen sink on my left leg with my right leg tucked into Crane Stance. Can't wait for tomorrow's appointment to see if things officially look any better.

I'm sticking to m... Mon, 26 Apr 2021 14:43:52 EST Slowwww Sunday Guess everyone is out enjoying their Sunday! Not I. Still hunkered down in my room mostly, keeping the weight off my foot. When I changed the dressing it definitely LOOKS like it's healing better. But I still had a lot of nerve pain yesterday, so I'm keeping a low profile today. So far, so good!

Followup appointment is on Tuesday, hope it's good news.

Not much else going on in my tiny little world. Just catching up on some political work. Our primary ballot came out - it... Sun, 25 Apr 2021 19:03:46 EST Saturday Gray and overcast today. But dry and warmish. Or at least not cold. Temps are supposed to drop by 10+ tomorrow and Monday. Should get out and work in the yard. Let me change that. I need to get out and work in the yard. It needs to be done.

Drug Take Back Day today. I put some old OTC stuff aside a bit ago to take back. I wonder where it is. I could go to the library, then swing by Webb's and get some dirt for my raised beds, and then by Mom's for a game or two, and then to the dr... Sat, 24 Apr 2021 11:00:10 EST Friday Though I keep thinking it's Saturday.

Not much going on today. Have an order to pickup at Walmart and take over to Mom's house. Will play a game or two with Mom. And that's about it.

Hope everyone has a great day - and no more snow! Fri, 23 Apr 2021 11:04:12 EST Thursday No snow around here, fortunately, but temps have been a bit below average. Highs mostly in the low 60s, though only 53 on Sunday. And lows mostly in the 40s. I could use it about 10 degrees warmer. The sky is blue and the wind has died down, though, so I'm not complaining.

Had intended to get up and watch the meteor showers this morning but forgot.

Nothing actually "planned" for the day except my two classes. Last day of Shoshoni, though the final isn't for another coup... Thu, 22 Apr 2021 11:13:19 EST Wednesday Bummer about your eye(s), Leone. Is there anything they can do to at least slow the progression? I would be a real mess if my vision were to go. Seems like I spend all my time reading, either hard copy or on the computer.

Glad your second wound care appointment went so much better, Woubbie! You said it was the same practice. Will you be commenting to anyone "official" about the lousy first visit?

Nothing planned for today except going to Mom's house this morning. Well, ... Wed, 21 Apr 2021 11:18:45 EST Tuesday What's the news on Kyle, Woubbie?

No wonder it felt cold when I got up - it's only 38 outside at 9:30! High today of 60, windy, blue sky. Not bad.

Last week of Shoshoni class. The third exam was only posted late last week - we finished that chapter a couple of weeks ago. I had studied for it when I thought it would be posted, but of course have forgotten a lot since then. (My aging brain is like a sieve!) Need to take that exam plus two quizzes from the last chapter, and... Tue, 20 Apr 2021 11:39:57 EST Monday Another wind advisory today. Seems like it's unusually windy this year. Glad I got the fence fixed. Sounds like it would have come down sometime this spring anyway!

Mom and I have an appointment with an attorney this morning. I want to be put on as a co-trustee of her trust and get a durable power of attorney. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, the attorney does about making sure it's something Mom really wants and that I'm not pushing her into it. Which I am, of course,... Mon, 19 Apr 2021 11:11:12 EST Sunday High today of 71! That's just about perfect in my book. I'll spend the morning at Mom's house, then stop by Lowe's or someplace like that and get some soil amendments and then plant at least some of the lettuce, chard and kale I bought yesterday.

And that's about it in my neck of the woods. How about yours? Sun, 18 Apr 2021 11:26:13 EST Saturday A nice day out. A bit breezy, but not windy. Sun is shining, sky is blue, few clouds. High in the low 60s. High tomorrow in the upper 60s!

Went to a local nursery this morning and bought some chard, kale and lettuce to plant. Now I just have to figure out where, and probably really beef up the soil.

Picked up some books at the library, and returned some. In just another week and a half I can actually go inside! I got my second COVID shot on Tuesday, so will be "fully va... Sat, 17 Apr 2021 15:21:06 EST Happy Friday! Enjoy your day!

I'm heading to my family doctor for a followup on my foot booboo. I'm seeing a new younger doctor, which is probably a good thing. My regular MD has already retired from the practice, and my backup MD is no spring chicken either, lol! Hope she's a good one!

Other than that I'm planning a chillaxing day. I got my second Pfizer shot yesterday and haven't had any nasty symptoms so far almost 20 hours in. Just going to take it easy regardless. I'm still way b... Fri, 16 Apr 2021 10:44:47 EST Thursday,,, Rained overnight, now sunny, waiting a bit to go out and plant my final plants,, so I don't get stuck in the red clay! I'm looking forward to get the first part of my planting done.
Thu, 15 Apr 2021 10:40:43 EST Wednesday, I think.... yup, church tonight!. And rain forecast. I need to get out and get some trash picked up.
Scale is moving, I'm thrilled!!
Have a good Wednesday!!! Wed, 14 Apr 2021 10:01:08 EST Tuesday Getting my second COVID shot this morning. The first one wasn't a problem. Fingers crossed on this one. (Strange that SP hasn't updated the program to accept COVID as a valid spelling of a valid word!)

No plans at all for the day. Shoshoni class this afternoon and I'll probably attend even if I'm feeling icky. Other than that, just waiting to see how things turn out.

Took Mom to dermatologist yesterday. She had a couple of spots that her doctor wanted looked at. The derm... Tue, 13 Apr 2021 10:54:19 EST Monday Busy day. Mom had an appointment with a dermatologist this morning (had a couple of rough scaly spots burned off - probably just dry skin). For some reason that exhausted me! And her CPA texted this morning saying that her tax returns are done and she needs to make her first quarter 2022 estimated tax payment by the 15th. We won't be filing (and paying!) until next month but do need to get the estimates taken care of.

Other than that, all is well. I need to mow the lawn. And do ho... Mon, 12 Apr 2021 14:01:12 EST Sunday A beautiful day here today. High winds again last night, but calm today.

Went to a "Star Party" at the college observatory last night. They had selected half a dozen or so things to show us through the telescope. I couldn't see most of them - couldn't contort my body to get my eye to the eye piece. Did see a couple of things. It was interesting and gets me extra credit.

They hauled off all the old fence boards. Now I need to get the sprinkler system turned on and start ... Sun, 11 Apr 2021 14:11:00 EST Saturday It’s been a busy end of the week. DS was home Thursday night. Last night DH and I went to a Murder Mystery at one of the local museums, great fun. We went out for supper prior to that and it was nice to be out. Tonight we’re going to help DD do some packing for their move.

This morning we went to Home Depot and Menard’s, looking for shelves for the dining room. Brought home a few different options to help decide on color and size. I have lots of little things I want to change arou... Sat, 10 Apr 2021 12:40:06 EST Friday High winds yesterday, but the temporary fence held and the guys are out there now putting up the new fence.

Going over to Mom's house this morning. Have been over there several times lately, as usual, but mostly for specific things. Will take some time to just be with her and play games. Also have some legal and financial stuff to do, but will definitely just spend time with her.

And that's about all I have to say. I'm sure I'll think of something else that I know you ... Fri, 9 Apr 2021 11:03:45 EST Thursday Holy cow I slept late! Almost 10 hours of sleep. Feel great, though, so I musta needed it.

My foot has been fairly quiet since I've been staying off it. Hopefully just a few more days of babying it and I can get back to daily walking.

Not much on my to-do list today, just some electronic paperwork and the ongoing basement painting. Might do some shopping with Kyle later. I think he needs to pick up some stuff at the hardware store.

The sun is shining, the leav... Thu, 8 Apr 2021 11:36:44 EST Wednesday And Hump Day!

Mom has an appointment with a podiatrist at 11:20, so I'll take her to that. That's all that's actually scheduled, with a time and everything. Other than that, dishes, portioning out and freezing bone broth, Astronomy reading and video, and studying Shoshoni.

Looks like a beautiful day so far. High supposed to be 70. Just about right!

Russell was acting like he was trying to find a way out of the yard via the very temporary "fence" that's up un... Wed, 7 Apr 2021 12:15:52 EST Tuesday Supposed to be warmer today than yesterday - high around 59. Why does 60 sound so much warmer than 59?

Shoshoni class today, and I need to finish my vocabulary from the last chapter. Almost done, and there's absolutely no reason for me not to finish the flash cards and then learn it all. Make it so!

COVID rates are going up around here. The running 7-day daily average of new cases has tripled over the past few days. Still really low - lower than at any time before Febru... Tue, 6 Apr 2021 09:34:41 EST Monday, Monday A beautiful day here. I’m still tired though, only got about 5 hours of sleep. It seems no matter what time I go to bed (late) I’m still awake before the alarm goes off. And I didn’t even have an alarm set today! Oh well, I can nap later if I need to.

Today is a day off, I’m mostly going to relax but also need to balance the checking account and mop the kitchen. Hopefully finish an audio book and soak up some Vitamin D too.

Hope you have a lovely day
Mon, 5 Apr 2021 10:14:25 EST Easter Sunday For some of us, anyway, The Easter part. I think it's Sunday for everyone!

Mom's coming over for Easter dinner. Lamb shanks, artichoke, salad, and strawberries and cream. Yum! However, I have LOTS of cleaning to do before I go get her!

Another nice day today, then it cools off. High of 76 today, 49 tomorrow! Then mostly 60s for the next two weeks. Hooray!

Terry and Dean came over yesterday and took down most of the fence that blew over. Don't know if they have new boards; Lowe's and Home Depot are both out of them but HD may have gotten some in today. If not, they'll put up some of that orange lacy fencing that they put around construction to keep folks out. Doubt that it will keep Russell in, but fingers crossed. In the meantime, there's no fence so Russell can only go out on the leash. ... Fri, 2 Apr 2021 11:07:01 EST Thursday I'm tired. Getting up to look at the stars at 5 am is getting very old. I'm fortunate, though, that I'm doing it in the spring. I'd have to get up really early to look at the stars in the middle of summer! Tonight is the last night I have to do it. 30 consecutive nights of star gazing. Minus the days that were overcast. Can't really say I've learned very much, other than not to schedule Dark Sky viewing when the moon is full. But it's been interesting.

Mom is coming over for Easter... Highs in the 70s the next few days!

Neighbor was great about the fence. Handyman kept telling me we could just repair the fence instead of replacing it. I'd rather replace it, and get it done once and for all. Well, at least for as long as neighbor and I are likely to be here. Much better than patching it up all the time. I think neighbor feels the same way. Will talk to him again today. Turns out there is no fencing material in town. Appare... Wed, 31 Mar 2021 11:23:04 EST Tuesday Handyman came over this morning to talk about replacing fence. I think he thinks I'm poor; he keeps trying to get me to do things more cheaply. Just put up new posts, don't replace the fence. Neighbor and I both want it replaced. Haven't got the bid yet.

Only four more weeks of class for my Shoshoni class! I need to get my act together and start studying and taking the tests and quizzes that are just due by the end of the semester.

Wind has died way down. Hurray!
... Tue, 30 Mar 2021 12:13:14 EST Monday High winds last night. They blew down part of my fence. It fell over onto the neighbor's swimming pool, so it's still up enough that Russell can't get out. That part of it is, anyway. Haven't gone out and checked the whole thing. Not sure whose fence it actually is - mine or the neighbor's. I was chatting with them a few years ago and mentioned replacing the fence between our front yards, and he said that he'd pay half the cost of replacing the back fence between our yards. Hope he still feel... Mon, 29 Mar 2021 11:19:16 EST SUNDAY Happy Anniversary LEONE!
(hope I have this right). Anyone else having trouble getting enough grams of fiber into their low carb diet? I find I can keep my carbs and protein goals fine, have to be careful with the fat because I've been getting too much of that, but never seem to get to the fiber goal. What solutions have you all found? Sun, 14 Mar 2021 13:47:13 EST Sunday - and time to save daylight! Now I understand why Walmart texted an hour early that my order was ready. Nope, come to think of it, my phone is automatically adjusted. So I still don't know why they got my order ready an hour early. Have to wait until the pharmacy opens anyway.

Another beautifully sunny day.

Mom's cleaning woman texted last night to say that she was retiring. Immediately. She called yesterday afternoon and asked if she could go to the basement to do laundry. She was out of clean clothes. She could probably make it downstairs ok (she throws her clothes downstairs so would have both hands free) but I am concerned about her getting back upstairs with a hand full of laundry. So I told her I'd go over today to do her laundry. Actually, I've been concerned about her going downstairs to do laundry (or anything else, for that m... Mon, 8 Mar 2021 10:32:54 EST Sunday 03/07 I wish I could get myself motivated to get something useful done! I'm still dealing with the after effects of a supplement that disagreed with me. Things seem to be settling down finally, but not quite 100% yet. I went with mostly quiet foods last night and today - some thin soups and saltines and milk for dinner last night. Just finished a bowl of chicken bouillon with a little shredded celery. I may not be super low carb most of the time, but it's still a real blessing to be able to stick t... Sun, 7 Mar 2021 13:41:55 EST Saturday - guess everyone's having too much fun Pretty much kicking back today.

I got pretty minimal advice from my cardiologist. Nothing was said about diet, which is probably just as well.

He did set an exercise regimen, which as far as I can tell is supposed to keep me from diving in head first for at least ten days. Sat, 6 Mar 2021 17:58:20 EST Friday - ignore this thread! I goofed and didn't see that Naypooie started the daily thread. I didn't get to eat a lot yesterday, had to fast until after the procedure at 13:00. They answer the phone with "room service" when you call, so probably more flexible than the hospitals that want you to order breakfast before you go to bed. Fri, 5 Mar 2021 08:51:48 EST Thursday - March Forth Day, aka Do Something Day! It's another beautiful day here today! Sunny, barely any wind (or even breeze!) at the moment. Still cold - only in the 30s - but supposed to get up to 59 today. A perfect day to get out and do something! Alas, most of the things I need to do today are indoor things, but I do want to get to the library this morning and take Russell for a walk in the park while we're there.

Got Mom's tax info to her CPA yesterday, and sent him an email with questions and info about an unusual situa... Thu, 4 Mar 2021 11:03:47 EST Wednesday -and flowers! Russell and I checked out the house on the corner when we went on our walk yesterday. They always have the earliest flowers. And they did! They had snowdrops and crocuses. Hurrah! Spring is finally coming! Though, to be honest, winter hasn't seemed all that long. Probably because I've been counting time by Mom's situation rather than the weather.

I checked the weather, and the average high here for today is 51. I spent most of it at Mom's house, then was sick last Sunday so I came home to quarantine. I'm pretty sure it was just a bug of some sort - the COVID test came back negative and the extreme fatigue (between Saturday night and Monday morning I slept 24 out of 32 hours, and dozed in my chair 4 of the 8 hours I wasn't actually sleeping in bed!) was pretty much gone by Monday - but DB came down to stay with Mom so I could come home and quarantine just in... Mon, 1 Mar 2021 10:06:40 EST March Challenge - Movement! Happy March! This month we're focusing on movement. Winter and Covid have conspired to make exercising more difficult than usual, but now that warmer temperatures and more daylight are here, it's time to emerge from hibernation and take stock of where we are and where we want to be, in a physical fitness sense.

We all know the benefits of moving our bodies so no need to elaborate. Sun, 28 Feb 2021 12:23:35 EST Newbie from Vermont Hi all, DH and I have been on a "sort-of" keto diet for the past year, with pleasantly positive results. Neither of us needs to do low carb for medical reasons, but rather to lose weight, gain mental clarity and enjoy the types of food that this WOE offers. I'm also on Team Keto, but find that they are quite critical of any choices that veer from the strict no-more-than-20 carbs per day edict. Looking for a group of supportive like-minded folks that I can learn and share with. Thanks for l... Sun, 28 Feb 2021 10:22:48 EST Saturday Mom gets her first COVID shot this afternoon. DB will have to take her since I am still quarantining. He'll be here until Tuesday which is the last day of my quarantine. It's been nice having him here so I could come back to my own house. Not sure what I'll do when he leaves, whether I'll move back to Mom's or stay here and just go over and visit most every day. I had planned to stay there until the doc said her foot was completely healed, but seems kind of silly to go over for just a couple ... Sat, 27 Feb 2021 12:52:27 EST Friday Or should that be Thursday Part 3?

Not that there's all that much differentiating the days, though it is handy to know which days I have class. And when I have assignments due.

DB is definitely NOT one for sitting around doing nothing. Being down here with Mom for a week is hard on him. Fortunately she doesn't need someone around all the time so he's able to go out and walk on the many trails around here. Also fortunately the weather has been cooperating.

I'm ... Fri, 26 Feb 2021 11:15:37 EST Thursday Part Two Woke up at 6 and don't know why, but then I had a hard time getting back to sleep. I had been up until 1, so 5 hours of sleep was not gonna cut it. I tossed for about an hour and then ended up sleeping until the phone rang at 9:30. I don't feel sleepy, but I don't feel really energetic either. Ah well, onward anyway.

I'm still experimenting with my grandmother's baked perogi recipe for my mom. I bought some frozen bread dough, but it's too gooey and stretchy. I could make the dough... Thu, 25 Feb 2021 11:23:31 EST Thursday Another quiet day, even if there was remote learning - LOL. My DGS had a "reading" lesson with his teacher one on one - I was very proud of how well he did.

It was nice and sunny here today, so we all headed out to get some fresh air. I was surprised to find out we were gone for over an hour.

Just brought DGS home - going to meditate for awhile, read and get some dinner. That will be it for the day. Wed, 24 Feb 2021 16:51:05 EST Tuesday Can't believe I'm the first to post - it's already 3:30.

Lazy day - I felt quite weary all day long - did take a short nap. Still getting things done here and there around the house - nothing major to speak of. Dropped off my tax info - expecting to have to pay this year because of the Qwik Fill prize I won - we'll see.

It's a pretty dreary day outside - dark and misty. At least it's not snow! The weather people are telling us it will go into the high 40's tomorrow??... Tue, 23 Feb 2021 15:33:30 EST Moving Monday Which, in my case, means moving back to my house.

Yesterday I felt awful. Vertigo, nausea, headache, dizziness, and extreme fatigue. Yes, extreme - I was in bed sleeping for all but about 8 of the past 30+ hours, and for 4 of those 8 hours that I was up, I was dozing in my chair.

Today I'm feeling better. The vertigo, nausea, headache, and dizziness are mostly gone, and I am up, though I could easily doze off in my chair again. But then, it's not yet 7:30, after all! <... Mon, 22 Feb 2021 09:32:54 EST Sunny Sunday.... Delighted.... I'm going to a play today. It will see more normal, despite the fact that I have to wear a mask... just to be "compliant." It's a play written by the students in the theatre department at Liberty University. They have some amazing amazing original plays. I'm so glad! Sun, 21 Feb 2021 09:50:16 EST Saturday Song My local public radio station carries Saturday Cinema with Lynne Warfel, and I just waltzed up the stairs with Meryl Streep singing No One Is Alone from Sondheim's Into the Woods. I don't follow theater, so it was new to me. Lovely!

I'm doing a little light cooking for my mom this morning. She asked for some boiled eggs and some chicken soup. Funny thing. I've made her soup before and yes, she did say she liked it, but I don't think she's really craving the soup. I kinda think she ... Sat, 20 Feb 2021 12:04:16 EST Finally Friday Yesterday's telemedicine visit with my mom and her GP went pretty well. Her blood pressure reading was actually pretty low, and she's lost weight since the last time she was seen in person by the GP, so she recommended that mom drop one of her two blood pressure meds. I measured her resting BP at 99/62. It's not surprising that she feels dizzy when she sits up suddenly!

Today I need to call her cardiologist to follow up and make sure that's okay with them as well. (This should be s... Fri, 19 Feb 2021 10:20:13 EST Thursday is here! Today is all about getting to Mom's house, getting her telemedicine appointment done, and getting home safely. It looks like the snow is gonna stay light and should be peaking in the next hour. Yay!

The appointment is at 1:15, so I'm hoping to be home by 2pm, which leaves the rest of the day to get some things done around the house.

Today is the last day that sunset will be earlier than 6pm here. That always cheers me up!
67

Happy Thursday al... Thu, 18 Feb 2021 10:41:22 EST Calm Sunny Wednesday My sympathies to all of you in the midst of a winter storm. Kids may love snow, but I got over that when I lived in Salt Lake City, and nobody loves a power outage. I almost feel guilty having such nice weather.

Guess I'd better go take a walk and enjoy it. Wed, 17 Feb 2021 11:22:16 EST Tuesday Morning Good morning.

Woke to about 5 inches of snow this morning and still snowing--hard. Lovely to look at, but a monkey wrench for sure. The lights keep flickering and we will probably lose power at some point. I was supposed to pick up my blood pressure medication, but may not make it the 8 miles down valley. The roads are tricky in snow even when plowed. Luckily they ARE plowed fairly quickly because this is the major route into Los Alamos and the National Labs (you know--the bomb's b... Tue, 16 Feb 2021 10:13:56 EST Monday - Stormy Weather! At least out here in the East. So far we just have an inch or two in Pittsburgh, and it has taken a break from coming down, but there's more precip on the way, of the ugly variety. Stay safe!

My sister called mom's doctor early this morning to reschedule her telemedicine appointment for Thursday, which is quite a relief for me. I was not entirely sure I'd even be able to safely get to her, even though she's only about a mile away. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that none of us lo... Mon, 15 Feb 2021 11:29:53 EST Sunday Have a good day.

This is the much ballyhooed bathroom. Still no drain connected, but expect it to be finished tomorrow. Now I have asked for an estimate for a deck outside our back door.

Sorry it is cattywampus--it didn't start out that way and I don't know how to fix it. Sun, 14 Feb 2021 13:49:22 EST Saturday It snowed overnight. Just quit a little bit ago. Supposed to rain/snow off and on most of the day. I'm staying home. Well, home at Mom's house.

When I came upstairs and saw the snow I told Mom that I was declaring the day a Stay In Your Pajamas All Day Day. Then she spoiled things by getting dressed. If we both stayed in our pajamas all day, it would be a Stay In Your Pajamas All Day Day. If only one of us stays in our pajamas, she's just being lazy. So I got dressed, too.
<... Sat, 13 Feb 2021 14:58:13 EST Friday - woo hoo! Happy Friday!

I’m especially happy as I took the day off. Originally my sister, nephew and I were going to drive to Minneapolis to go to Ikea and Trader Joe’s, but her Covid diagnosis changed that. With the frigid weather, I think it’s a good thing. I would hate to risk car trouble in this weather.

So, I’m running some errands today and relaxing. It’s -8 right now with a windchill of -22 and a high forecasted of 0, but it’s going to be even worse tomorrow through Monda... Fri, 12 Feb 2021 10:42:15 EST THURSDAY Another easy day (not complaining). Remote learning was very light. Spent alot of time just playing with DGS.

DH and I are supposed to get our second covid shots on Sunday at 5pm. Hope it all goes smooth.

Nothing happening by me at all. Guess I'll go red or watch some TV.

Thu, 11 Feb 2021 16:45:51 EST Wednesday - Teddy Day! Teddy Day is celebrated on the 4th day of Valentine's Week. I had to check and see whether it meant the animal kind of teddy or the lingerie kind of teddy. Turns out it means the animal kind, as in teddy bear. Seems like either kind might be appropriate.

I miss Fuzzy, my teddy bear. I used to send him to Dad when Dad had surgery or was sick. Wed, 10 Feb 2021 15:03:53 EST Tuesday - Read in the Bathtub Day! I do miss that. With the extra weight I've gained and my bad knees I've been afraid I wouldn't be able to get back out again. And while I've heard that you can call the fire department to help if you can't get up, and I did make a point of having something close at hand so I was at least slightly not indecent, I'd really rather not have to call them and ask them to get me out of the tub!

Today is also
Chocolate Day (yum!)
Extraterrestrial Culture Day (cuz it's better th... I wouldn't know. Don't watch it.

Another beautiful sunny day here, though a bit breezy.

I think I'll go over to my house this afternoon and make a quiche. I could make it here but I want to use some of the ingredients I have at my house, and a pan I have there. Actually, I think I have about half the ingredients at my house and half here. Sounds about right.

Have a great day, enjoy the game if that suits you, and d... Sun, 7 Feb 2021 16:10:42 EST Sunny Saturday! At least it is around here. How about where you are?

Was really windy yesterday, but the wind has died down. Barely even a light breeze at the moment. Sunny, bright blue sky. 42 degrees already at just after 11. Nice! Russell and I will get out an enjoy it. Maybe even take two walks, since I forgot yesterday.

Lots of studying to do. My memory isn't anything like it used to be when I was an undergrad! It seems it is getting easier - LOL.

I am also feeling better today - don't think I'll be taking any tylenol at all. My next covid shot is due Feb. 14 - wonder if I'll have another reaction or if even what I was feeling was from the vaccine.

Anyways, it's another sunny day here - there's still snow all over but we just bundled up and went out to play this afternoon. Looking forward to the weekend when my time is my own. Fri, 5 Feb 2021 14:42:37 EST Think it's Thursday At least I'm going on that assumption. Mon, 1 Feb 2021 10:47:18 EST February Challenge - Positivity Happy February!

It's that time of year when the holidays are past, the daylight hours are getting longer, but spring still seems far away. Many struggle with the winter blues, and all of us have been affected by the events of the past year. So this is a great time to think about how we can bring positivity into our lives. Having a positive outlook can affect our physical and mental health so it's important to seek ways to improve our outlook.

This doesn't mean that we ... Sun, 31 Jan 2021 11:35:02 EST Today is Sunday We were supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow overnight but so far it looks a bit more like 1-2. I'm guessing it will keep up all day long so maybe we'll have the 5 by nightfall. I took care of everything I could yesterday - gas in the car, picked up groceries, dropped stuff off to my mom, took the trash and recycling down - so today is pretty much a Snow Day. I had joked that I was saving the third of my three wonderful jigsaw puzzles for a snow day, so maybe I'll open that up later on.
<... Fri, 29 Jan 2021 10:39:52 EST Thursday Started the day with a visit to the ortho doctor. Wed, 27 Jan 2021 10:49:26 EST Tuesday 524 Tue, 26 Jan 2021 16:23:58 EST Marvelous Monday Especially for those of us who are retired!

DB left this morning, so Mom and I have the house back to ourselves. She's probably longing for the day when she has the house back to herself!

Will clean up the kitchen today and tidy my bedroom so it's reasonably neat when Mom watches TV in there tonight. Also pick up books at the library. And do some studying.

That's about it for the day.

Have a great one!
Mon, 25 Jan 2021 10:51:08 EST Sunday Morning Sun is shining, at least for the moment, and that always makes things better!

I don't have a whole lot on my to-do list for the day, mostly the same as yesterday. I got a fair amount of painting done on my basement project yesterday. I think if I focus just a bit I might be able to get an entire corner finished, including cleaning up the junk hanging from the joists overhead. DH bought a bunch of LED lights on sale, and if I get everything cleaned up speedy quick I think he might b... Sun, 24 Jan 2021 10:24:57 EST Saturday Happy Saturday! I'm watching a light snowfall and am planning to do some reading and maybe start a new puzzle. I haven't had any luck finding the Mystic Maze puzzle at the Targets here, maybe I'll venture out and check again. The website just says "in stores" but it's not available for pick up or delivery and doesn't specifically say if it's in stock at either of our stores.

I feel like I should do something productive like work on cleaning out the utility room, but unless some mo... My computer is misbehaving. Today is also Women's Healthy Weight Day. And some other things, but that page got lost and it's not worth the bother of finding it again.

DB came down last night. We're going to Costco on our way to pick up a Walmart order. Have to get Mom into her boot first, though.

Shoshoni class this afternoon, Astronomy class this evening.

Have a great day and be ... Thu, 21 Jan 2021 11:07:24 EST Wednesday - Inauguration Day! I know there are mixed feelings about this, and let's keep name calling off of this thread, please, but Inauguration Day is an important day in the life and history of our nation.

Will go over to my house for the afternoon. I have a phone appointment with my therapist and I prefer to do it in the privacy of my own home. The problem with that is that I have the thermostat set for 50 while I'm not living there, and it will take a while for the house to warm up. I may be bundled up a... Wed, 20 Jan 2021 11:11:04 EST Tuesday - Good Memory Day Not much planned for today. Shoshoni class this afternoon, and I need to do the Astronomy reading. That's about it.

That and think about good memories, that is. Tue, 19 Jan 2021 11:02:12 EST Monday Monday Good Morning. Mon, 18 Jan 2021 09:54:12 EST Sunday And feeling much better today. Forced myself to stay up until bedtime yesterday. No naps in the afternoon and no going to bed early. Still had trouble getting to sleep. Ended up getting up and reading for about an hour in the middle of the night. Not groggy today like I was yesterday. Don't know what was going on yesterday - Mom went back to bed in the morning and slept until about noon, too.

Mom's cleaning people come tomorrow. Don't know what time. Will have to tidy up and so fo... Sun, 17 Jan 2021 11:55:47 EST Saturday 524

And that's about all I can say. I got up about 8:30, when Mom got up. Checked email, etc. and went back to get dressed about 9:30. And went back to bed instead and got back up again about 11:30. I'm still barely awake. I told Mom that I was declaring today an official Let's Stay in Our Jammies All Day Day.

Hope you're having a great day and doing all the things you should be doing to stay COVID (and flu!) free. Sat, 16 Jan 2021 14:53:46 EST Fabulous Friday At least I think it is Friday! Fri, 15 Jan 2021 10:36:33 EST Thursday fer sure My day got off to a little bit of a backwards start, just getting back to my usual track.

Not a lot going on here today - and I hope to keep it that way. I'm plugging away at my ongoing household projects, and that's about it. Might do another section of concrete in the basement and should drag another bag of garbage out of the sleeping porch. It's in the mid 40's, so it won't be too uncomfortable to work in there for just a few minutes. There's no heat in the porch and lots of lea... Thu, 14 Jan 2021 13:14:28 EST Wednesday - Make Your Dream Come True Day! The website where I get these things has a picture of a toddler curled up sideways in a too big car seat, zonked out. Presumably dreaming. It's a cute picture, but my first thought was that she's not in the car seat at all properly! Actually, that's my first thought every time I see the picture.

Today is also
Korean American Day
National Peach Melba Day
National Rubber Ducky Day (the birthday of Sesame Street's Ernie's Rubber Duckie)
National Sticker Day
Pu... Wed, 13 Jan 2021 10:51:15 EST Tuesday - National Hot Tea Day! Yes! I do like my hot tea. I learned to drink it when I was in Ireland. I was offered booze (at about noon!), and coffee and juice (it was an exchange and I was staying in someone's house), none of which I drink, and tea sounded the least objectionable. It wasn't too bad - with lots of sugar and cream! And I mean lots of cream. That was in the late 1970s. It took me several years to get to the point where I drink it without cream. Still prefer cream in most kinds of tea, but I can drink it wi... Tue, 12 Jan 2021 11:48:35 EST Monday - Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day I'm sure this came up last year, too, and I didn't learn it then, either. Fairly slim, quick read. Probably nothing new for long-time low carbers, but, as expected from a science journalist, a very thorough study of why low carb is effective for health and why it has met so much resistance from stakeholders in medicine and business.

551/the-case-for-keto-by-gary-taubes/
Sun, 10 Jan 2021 10:29:56 EST Saturday - National Word Nerd Day! I checked my phone and my computer and, sure enough, it looks like it really is Friday.

Not much on my agenda for the day. I didn't get much done on my house projects this week, so I'm going to focus on the basement today. Fri, 8 Jan 2021 10:42:39 EST Diet Doctor says plenty of protein, moderate fat sent out an email with 5 tips for fast weight loss. (For those who aren't familiar with it, DD promotes Keto and low carb eating.) It says:

1. Cut way back on the carbs - it suggests a limit of 20 net carbs
2. Thu, 7 Jan 2021 11:18:45 EST Thursday - and may today be better than yesterday! So very hard to accept what happened yesterday. I was going to say hard to believe, but unfortunately, I can believe just about anything these days.

Today will be better.

I'm still at Mom's house. As she put it yesterday, she was back on Pepto in the morning, but ok after one episode. Now I'm concerned about how weak she is. She must have lost just about everything she ate on Monday, had one cup of Lipton chicken noodle soup on Tuesday, and a banana and a cup of soup on... Thu, 7 Jan 2021 10:47:55 EST Wednesday - Cuddle Up Day!, which is where I usually get this info, has a picture of a cat for Cuddle Up Day. I have to admit that sitting in a recliner with a cat on my lap and a blanket while watching the snow fall outside is just about the best kind of cuddling up I know! Cuddling up with Russell instead of a cat runs a close second, but he doesn't purr.

Today is also
Apple Tree Day
Bean Day
Epiphany (aka Three Kings Day)
National Shortbread Day
National Smith Day <B... Wed, 6 Jan 2021 11:35:53 EST Tuesday Off to Mom's house. She just called and said she vomited and feels absolutely terrible. I had her take her temperature but she couldn't read the thermometer. Called the doctor's office, and they said for me to go over to her house and call again from there, so they can ask questions of Mom. So I'm heading out in a little bit. I'm not going to "move" over there yet, though that's a possibility for later.

Fingers crossed, please, and prayers if you feel like it. Sat, 2 Jan 2021 11:43:58 EST January Tiny Habits Challenge Last week, I posted a link to an article at about the value of Tiny Habits. The idea is that you pick a really tiny habit and commit to that instead of to trying to start a big habit. For example, if you want to start meditating, commit to taking three deep breaths rather than committing to meditating for 15 minutes every day. Set up a trigger for your tiny habit, too - maybe you take your deep breaths whenever you get in your car, or before each meal, or when you sit down in front of... Sat, 2 Jan 2021 11:31:15 EST Saturday (in the park?) And no, it's not the Fourth of July!

Light snow last night. Enough to turn the streets and sidewalks white, but barely enough to show up through the grass.

Supper at Mom's house went well. I told her I would bring some broccoli for me instead of eating acorn squash and carrots. And we skipped the ice cream.

Will make another batch of bone broth today. Pork this time. Finally!

No plans for the day, though I may go over to Mom's house. When I talked to her last night, it sounded like she wanted me to come. It still seems strange when she asks - or almost asks - me to come just for company. Not her usual MO for decades.

Stayed up until midnight, just to keep Russell company. Only a few little "obligatories" to take care of, including picking up my ALDI order.

For the last 10 days I've been cranking out less-than-a-minute-each little videos for my political group's Instagram, and then cross-posting to Facebook and Youtube. Wed, 16 Dec 2020 11:08:23 EST Let's get Tuesday started, too! Busy day today. Therapy in a few minutes (by phone). Then Mom and I have an appointment to get our hair cut. Sherry, who has been cutting Mom's hair for probably 30 years and who cut Dad's hair before that, and who has been cutting my hair since I moved back because I just get it done at the same time Mom gets hers done, is retiring the end of the year. Don't know what we're going to do after that! Maybe see if she'll come to Mom's house and cut our hair there. Anyway, I'll go to the library ... Russell is a chiweenie - a chihuahua/wiener dog cross, which is apparently actually a breed these days rather than a mutt. Though he may have some corgi, too, which I guess would make him a mutt.
