SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard Friday - National Sea Serpent Day! Not that we have any here in Idaho. At least I'm not aware of any, though we do have a sea port and at one time had two Navy bases - including a nuclear submarine training base! (For training ON nuclear subs, not training OF nuclear subs.) Though there used to be a huge inland sea around here a few odd million or billion years ago, so there may have been sea serpents back in the day.

Today is also
Aged Care Employee Day (we pay people minimum wage to care for our loved ones -... Fri, 7 Aug 2020 09:56:02 EST Thursday - Wiggle Your Toes Day! That's right! Give them some exercise. And fresh air, too. The best place to wiggle your toes on a hot August day is in a lake, with you sitting on a dock and dangling your feet in the water. But anywhere will do. And, yes, it does count as exercise today!

Today is also
Balloons to Heaven Day
Corporate Baby Name Day
Cycle to Work Day (U.K.)
Farmworker Appreciation Day (thank you!)
Hiroshima Day, aka No Nukes Day
National Fresh Breath Day
Nationa... Thu, 6 Aug 2020 09:40:01 EST Wednesday - Work Like a Dog Day! Leone would probably know a lot more about this than I do, but I've heard that dogs need to have "work" for which they are responsible. I've never done enough training for simple things to get to this stage, but that's what I've heard. The owners who brought their dogs to Read to a Dog programs at the library all said that their dogs knew when they were working and when they weren't, and that the work was very important to them. The other part of "working like a like" is playing like a dog. W... Wed, 5 Aug 2020 09:59:03 EST Tuesday, right? Not seeing the daily thread.

National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day for me. "In 1984, at the age of 50, Alice Solomon graduated from Wellesley College. She felt that society saw her and other women of her age or older as senior citizens, and as women who were no longer useful or relevant. She set out to change that, and came up with the idea of "Gorgeous Grandma." She realized that "grandma" was a term ascribed to older women, regardless if they were actually grandmothers or not. She decided to embrace the term, but put "gorgeous" in front of it, which she thought re... Thu, 23 Jul 2020 09:54:52 EST Wednesday - Hammock Day! I'm not sure I've ever been in a hammock. The neighbors across the street have two hammocks hanging out front, and Mom's next door neighbors have two hanging in their back yard. It is a day to let your guard down and be a little silly, and remember the simple things in life from your childhood. I can see letting go of grudges and regrets - can't do anything about them. Not so sure about worries. COVID-19 and the political and social situations are real and seem here to stay. I chose that one for you, Naypooie!

Did you folks know that for almost a century and a half Native Americans weren't citizens of the US? They were basically non-people and didn't count towards the number of people in the states. Even blacks were counted, though only for 3/5 of a person. Native Americans counted as zero. In 1924 all Native Americans born on US soil were granted full citizenship, but still couldn't vote in some states until 1957, almost a century after blacks were g... It’s a vital component of health, it helps the body as well as the mind. From the article linked below:

You may think of stretching as something performed only by runners or gymnasts. But we all need to stretch in order to protect our mobility and independence.

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility ... Mon, 1 Jun 2020 07:43:13 EST Sunday - Home Sweet Home! I'm moving back home today! Last night I told Mom that I thought it was about time and what did she think, and she responded, "Whenever. I don't know why you're here anyway." I've told her many times why I was there and decided not to tell her again. Anyway, I've got most of my stuff packed up and a lot of it in the car. Still need to sort through groceries. I've been buying for one household, not two, and while the quantities may not be all that different, things don't always divvy up nicely... Happy Saturday.

I got up and went for a bike ride first thing this morning. I decided to ride down to the bike trails about 2 miles away – mostly downhill. Which meant coming back was a brutal hill about 3 blocks long that I didn’t even attempt, just way too steep. I walked and was still winded at the top. But that’s OK, I still got a great workout.

I’m ready for the day and just trying to decide what I want to try to get accomplished. I st... Sat, 30 May 2020 11:01:32 EST Friday Didn't get to sleep until sometime after 3 this morning, and woke up about 6. Ugh. Decided to go ahead and get up and go to Winco. I hadn't planned to go to Winco (or Costco, where I'm going in a little bit) until things settled down a bit more, but Gov. Tue, 26 May 2020 10:45:36 EST A sad Monday If yesterday I was maudlin, today I am outright sad, distressed and down in the dumps. Last night my trainer called to say she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has spread to every organ. She has 2-5 months to live and my heart is broken. She said she is looking forward to the reunion at the rainbow bridge with her many dogs that have passed. She also said it will be sad not to see her students compete with dogs that she has helped train. I have been training with her once or twi... Thu, 21 May 2020 11:07:51 EST Wednesday - Be a Millionaire Day! Way back when, 20 years or so ago, when I was doing a lot of estate work as a CPA, we had some millionaire clients. Most of them you wouldn't think were millionaires. I'm thinking of one couple where the wife didn't work, the husband had some blue color job, they lived in the same small house they'd bought not long after they were married, probably had most of the same furniture they'd gotten then, used coupons, and so forth. And by living frugally they were able to save regularly and ended u... Wed, 20 May 2020 11:54:08 EST Tuesday - and May Ray Day! "May Ray Day is for getting outside, soaking up the sun's rays, and celebrating the warmer weather. May is the last full month of spring, meaning that it is starting to warm up pretty nicely, but it's not yet so scorching hot that you can't bear to be outside. Being in the sun can be both good and bad for your health ... Celebrate the day by going outside and enjoying the sun and warmer weather. Go for a hike, jog, or bike ride. Tue, 5 May 2020 09:46:54 EST Some ideas for dealing with uncertainty Came across this article at NPR. Thought you might be interested. You folks are definitely part of my "resiliency circle."

for-dealing-with-uncertainty-from-peop
le-whove-been-there
Mon, 4 May 2020 11:31:59 EST Marvelous Monday Too lazy to list today's special days.

Not much planned for today. Study for government test. Walk Russell. Do dishes. May go to my house for a bit. Stuff like that.

DB is planning to come down to visit. Says he'll be coming down every two to four weeks, COVID permitting. I have mixed feelings about that. He's been around a lot more people, including going up to Moscow (northern Idaho) to visit his wife (he's been staying at their very isolated cabin), and her son, who ... Mon, 4 May 2020 11:00:03 EST Sunday - and Garden Meditation Day! Take the opportunity to sit outside today, and enjoy being there! Sun, 3 May 2020 10:42:13 EST Saturday - Sibling Appreciation Day! When we were kids and my brothers and I would fight, Mom would tell us that it wouldn't be long before we would appreciate each other. One of my brothers would suggest that I have a friend of mine over, and I would say sure, if he'd have one of his friends over. Never happened. But I've got pretty good brothers anyway. Especially now that they're so far away! 211

Will go to Costco this morning, as soon as they open. Take another geography test. Maybe start studying for... Sat, 2 May 2020 10:56:07 EST May's Monthly Challenge - Get Outside and Grow! Our team challenge for May is to get outside and grow. After a long winter it’s a time of renewal and growth in nature, so let’s focus on how we can renew and grow ourselves. In this time of COVID, it’s especially important to get outside. Even if you don’t leave your yard, taking some time to sit quietly and focus on your five senses is remarkably peace-giving. Listen to the birds, the children playing; savor the sight of green trees, grass, flowers and blue sky; smell the earthy scents; may... Sat, 2 May 2020 09:50:45 EST May Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. Anyone else remember making May baskets in grade school?

Today is also Lei Day (I guess they don't do baskets in Hawaii), Save the Rhino Day, Jamie Fraser's birthday 1721 (from the Outlander series, in case you're wondering who Jamie was - I had to look it up myself), Chocolate Parfait Day (easy to make low carb), Space Day (specifically Outer, I would imagine, though Social is important today, whatever the president and governors say), and Therapeutic Massage Awareness Day (thoug... Fri, 1 May 2020 09:16:46 EST May Sanity Challenges Hi, this is the new thread (or topic) for the May Sanity Challenges. I will be posting tomorrow's challenge and that for the day after every day. You can share as much or as little as you want to here. We just hope these challenges will help a bit to deal with stressful situations like thie sheltering at home one. Fri, 1 May 2020 00:42:09 EST Thursday - Pay It Forward Day! It's hard to think of ways to pay it forward these days. How have you helped someone else?

I've offered to add things to my grocery order for a couple of people. And I gave my stimulus check to a non-profit that operates or contributes to local food banks. And I practice social distancing and (usually) wear a face mask if I'm going to be around people. And I smile at people I do see. That's about it. Wish there were more I could do. What are you doing? Maybe I'll pick up some ideas... Thu, 30 Apr 2020 09:21:21 EST Wednesday - Stop Food Waste Day! As in grocery store workers and first responders and health care workers and everyone else who is working in public these days so the rest of us can get on with our lives. Thank you.

Today is also Blueberry Pie Day (I wonder why it's in April, when blueberries aren't ripe until the summer), Kiss Your Mate Day, and Cubicle Day!

Russell and I will go over to my house for a while today, mostly to see how they're coming along. Also to open up the house and get some fresh air... Tue, 28 Apr 2020 10:29:30 EST Monday - Prime Rib Day! Sure sounds good. Today is also Graphics Day, Morse Code Day, Tell a Story Day, World Tapir Day, and Hyena Day.

Also, unfortunately, the day following the night I can't sleep. Sigh. Mon, 27 Apr 2020 05:17:14 EST Sunday - and a beautiful day here! Today is also National Pretzel Day (did you know that pretzels were "invented" by the Catholic Church?), National Richter Scale Day (the first earthquake I was in, I was home alone shortly after we'd moved to Taiwan, and thought it was someone trying to break in. Don't know if I would have been more scared or less if I'd known it was an earthquake at the time.), National Dissertation Day (Ugh!), National South Dakota Day (a great place to live!), National Pet Parents Day (I hope that is to en... Sun, 26 Apr 2020 10:59:26 EST Saturday Not sure what the days to celebrate today are, but I’m celebrating that it’s Saturday. I woke up before 6:00 this morning and remembered I have a lot of stuff I’d like to do today so decided to get up and get at it.

The potting soil I bought at Costco a couple weeks ago and used to repot a bunch of my plants is not the right kind. I didn’t look at it closely enough, but I noticed this week that my plants needed watering every few days which isn’t normal. Some of them are losing le... Sat, 25 Apr 2020 08:57:22 EST Fiber Has any one dealt with a intestinal reaction to lowered fiber in the beginnings ? I have tried coffee olives and sauerkraut and colace. Am drinking fluids too. . Fri, 24 Apr 2020 11:40:02 EST Friday - Friendship Day! Thank you, my friends! I need you more now than ever.

Today is also Arbor Day, Silly Pajamas Day (pictures encouraged!), Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day (I managed that one before I got up!), and Hairball Awareness Day (I'm glad I have a dog these days instead of a cat!). For all of you out there with cats, being aware of hairballs is definitely a good thing!

Next week is the last week of classes! Then finals week, except that my classes aren't having finals, they're just having u... Fri, 24 Apr 2020 09:27:34 EST Thursday - Take a Chance Day! But a sensible one! Maybe a bit outside of your comfort zone, but not insane. And it's easy for chances to be insane these days.

Today is also Conch Republic Day, Talk Like Shakespeare Day, HRH Prince Louis's 2nd Birthday (and I REALLY don't care about that one!), and Take Daughter and Sons to Work Day (which so many people are doing from the comfort and privacy of their own homes).

It's sprinkling today. Hope it gets the ground in Mom's flower bed damp enough that the ... Thu, 23 Apr 2020 09:14:48 EST Wednesday - World Creativity and Innovation Day! Actually, that was yesterday, so we're a day late. Blame it on the virus! We definitely need some creativity and innovation to get us out of this mess!

Today is actually Earth Day (I'm doing my part this year by putting in native grass in my whole yard, which (supposedly!) only needs to be watered once a month), Jelly Bean Day, Wild Wednesday (how about some wild creativity and innovation?), April Showers Day (not here), and Administrative Professionals Day (and thanks to them all!... Wed, 22 Apr 2020 11:17:12 EST Terrific Tuesday! My calendar is at Mom's house and I'm at my house, so no access to the special days business. I know, I could do it on the internet, but I'm not.

My computer was working fine last night. Worked fine for a while this morning, then got really slow again. I'm seriously wondering whether someone has hijacked my computer and is using it for nefarious purposes. Or my wireless router. Or both.

Spending at least part of the day at my house, Beautiful weather. Have to stay insi... Tue, 21 Apr 2020 13:11:44 EST Monday - Volunteer Appreciation Day! And a big thank you to everyone who volunteers - especially these days, but everyone who normally volunteers too.

Today is also Lima Bean Respect Day(?), 4/20 Day (aka Weed Appreciation Day), Look Alike Day, and Pineapple Upside Down Day (I wonder how many "young people" even know what a pineapple upside down cake is?).

Today I absolutely positively MUST do my geography homework! Though I'm almost (but not quite!) hoping my computer will finish crashing so I have an excu... Mon, 20 Apr 2020 10:29:19 EST Sunday - Orthodox Easter! Also Garlic Day, Bicycle Day, and Hanging Out Day. Lots of hanging out today. Unfortunately, in more than one sense of the term!

Doing laundry now. Will go over to my house when I have clean clothes to wear. Geography homework. Walk Russell. A pretty normal day today. A new normal, that is. Sun, 19 Apr 2020 10:30:00 EST Saturday - Oops! I did it again! I gave today's Days yesterday, so I'll give today's Days today.

Ford Mustang Day, Blah Blah Blah Day, Bat Appreciation Day, Nothing Like A Dame Day, Cheeseball Day, and Haiku Poetry Day.

Missed it yesterday.
'Twas Haiku Poetry Day.
Try today instead.

Nothing on the agenda for today. I think it's supposed to be really nice out, so Russell and I may go for a couple of long walks, and I may sit outside and read. Can't take Russell to my house becaus... Sat, 18 Apr 2020 11:08:16 EST Friday - Husband Appreciation Day! Not something that I'll be celebrating, since I don't have one, but important for those who do. And, in case you're interested, Wife Appreciation Day is the third Sunday in September, or 9/20 this year.

Today is also Animal Crackers Day (in your soup, anyone?), Lineman Appreciation Day (I don't know that I've ever known anyone who worked for the railroad. Have only been on a train a few times in my life. But sure let's appreciate them anyway.), Velociraptor Awareness Day (don't ha... Fri, 17 Apr 2020 09:25:28 EST Thursday - Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day! I suspect there's a lot of that going on these days!

Also Save the Elephant Day, Stress Awareness Day (I think we're all aware of that, at least in general!), High Five Day, Eggs Benedict Day, Day of the Mushroom, and Orchid Day.

Ordered a second wireless router last night. Will pick it up from Walmart tomorrow. I want to have both my house and Mom's house set up with workable wireless internet. I'm still at Mom's house. Have thought about moving back to Mom's house and... Thu, 16 Apr 2020 09:28:42 EST Wednesday - Library Day! I hope people are really appreciating libraries, since so many of them are closed.

Also Glazed Spiral Ham Day (best leave off the glaze), Take a Wild Guess Day (seems very apropos to the current national and world situation!), Income Tax Day (though federal taxes aren't due until July 15 and neither is the first quarter estimated tax payment, though the second quarter estimated tax payment is due on June 15! And so are our state taxes, though you have to do your federal taxes befo... Wed, 15 Apr 2020 11:45:00 EST Tuesday - Moment of Laughter Day! Let's make that Moments of Laughter Day, shall we?

Also Be Kind to Lawyers Day, Look Up At the Sky Day, Dolphin Day, Gardening Day (too cold here, and I have to wait until the landscaping is done anyway), and Reach As High As You Can Day.

Picking up an order at Walmart this morning, and taking it back to my house to clean, etc. before bringing some of it over to Mom's house. May spend most of the morning (or longer) at my house. We'll see.

And that's about ... Tue, 14 Apr 2020 09:23:26 EST Monday - Plant Appreciation Day Both the kind of plant that makes toilet paper and other stuff, and the kind of plant that produces broccoli and other growing stuff! And the kind of plant that makes flowers and that pretties up the yard and house too.

Don't know about where you are, but Walmart has been out of broccoli for weeks.

Have a great day! Mon, 13 Apr 2020 10:40:15 EST Starting over I have been an inactive member for a long time ...not using spark. But back to low carb with a burst of enthusiasm. I am diabetic and my a1c has been climbing. Got a new glucose meter see modern . Lol . So am ready to begin with better monitoring of sugars. After two + weeks of more accurate monitoring of blood sugar . I am ready to begin low carb with seriousness. Mon, 13 Apr 2020 04:38:36 EST NPR - Should I Disinfect My Groceries?

shots/2020/04/12/832269202/no-you-dont
-need-to-disinfect-your-groceries-but-
here-s-to-shop-safely
Sun, 12 Apr 2020 10:14:04 EST Happy Easter! Happy Easter, to all who celebrate Easter today. And happy Sunday to everyone else.

Not much special going on around here. Mom made an Easter basket with mandarin oranges instead of eggs, so it would be usable as a centerpiece longer. This morning I went out and cut a couple of purple hyacinths and a few daffodils for a bouquet. Mom has a couple of the very old fashioned vases that are shaped like Easter eggs, and I used one of those. Mom has a ham steak in the freezer, and we'll h... Sun, 12 Apr 2020 10:05:41 EST Saturday - Oops! I said that was yesterday! All of those things I said were yesterday (except Good Friday) are really today. Louie Louie Day, Cheese Fondue Day, Barbershop Quartet Day, Pet Day, and Submarine Day. You can have then all again today if you want, or you can have yesterday today. Now that's an offer you don't often get!

So, yesterday (or today, if you prefer), is Farm Animals Day, Cinnamon Crescent Day, Siblings Day, Golfers Day, Safety Pin Day, and Marbles Day.

When my aunt visited my grandfather whe... Sat, 11 Apr 2020 10:36:17 EST Friday - Pet Day! And Good Friday, of course. Though I think that Orthodox Good Friday is next week.

Today is also Louie Louie Day, Cheese Fondue Day (which is fine, if you dip in chunks of meat and veggies and not bread), Barbershop Quartet Day, and Submarine Day.

High today of 71. High tomorrow of 63. High on Easter Sunday of 51! Good thing the Easter Bunny wears a fur coat. Fri, 10 Apr 2020 09:17:13 EST Thursday - Chicken Little Awareness Day Remember the story of Chicken Little? Actually, all I remembered about it was him saying, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" I didn't remember the end. "The sky is falling!" seems sort of appropriate these days.

Today is also Gotcha Day for "Titus" (whatever that means), Cherish an Antique Day, Chinese Almond Cookie Day (is that the same as Chinese Fortune Cookies?), Unicorn Day (I used to collect dragons and unicorns. I have some pretty neat ones.), and Name Yourself Day (... Thu, 9 Apr 2020 09:19:44 EST Let's get this Wednesday party started! Today is:
NATIONAL ALL IS OURS DAY
NATIONAL EMPANADA DAY
NATIONAL ZOO LOVERS DAY

Guess I'll go with the Zoo!

Had a terrifying but very brief storm last night. I was pleased with myself that I had wound down and gotten ready for bed earlier than usual and then KAZAAM! The wind was making a sound like a freight train, which is what a lot of people describe a tornado sounding like. I looked out the window and our 90 year old pines were doing a hula. I didn't ... Wed, 8 Apr 2020 12:10:19 EST Tuesday - No Housework Day! Honest! It is! It's even official. Today is Handmade Day, Coffee Cake Day, World Health Day (important!), and No Housework Day. I hope FlyLady is taking the day off, too.

Got quite a bit done yesterday, mostly school-wise. Now have to start studying for the test that's due by midnight on Friday. I've attended all the classes, but haven't done any reading for this unit. Best get to it.

Other than that, I'll go over to my house and bring back some of the stuff I got at Wa... Tue, 7 Apr 2020 10:56:38 EST Monday - and, apparently, Food Day! Today is Sweet Potato Day, Caramel Popcorn Day, Fresh Tomato Day, Twinkie Day, Carbonara Day, and Sorry Charlie Day (Tuna Day?). It is also California Poppy Day, ARMY Day, and Tartan Day.

"Army Day was established as a nationwide observance to draw public attention to national defense and to acquaint the public with Army activities. In addition, the day was used to stress the need for military preparedness, which the nation had lacked as it entered earlier major conflicts." Last ob... Mon, 6 Apr 2020 09:03:19 EST Sunday - Dandelion Day! I had a friend from Korea. One day we were sitting at a coffee bar type place enjoying our drinks when she started talking about those pretty yellow flowers in the park. People loved them in Korea, they were so cheerful and pretty. I assumed she meant daffodils, but no, she meant dandelions! She said that they were considered flowers there, not weeds. People even wrote poems about them. They're still a nuisance as far as I'm concerned, but I do look at them a bit differently now.

T... Sun, 5 Apr 2020 10:44:58 EST Saturday - Walk Around Things Day! That's for me, though I never thought about it in that way before. I usually have to walk around things at home, because I don't put things away and there's usually stuff on the floor. I've never thought about it being a form of exercise!

Today is also Landmine Awareness Day, Carrot Day, Cordon Bleu Day, Vitamin C Day, and Jeep 4x4 Day.

Slept in until almost 9 this morning! Very unusual, but I obviously needed it. Russell let me sleep in, too, which was nice.
<BR... Sat, 4 Apr 2020 12:00:37 EST Friday - World Party Day! Let's all have a virtual party! I'll bring the virtual cake. It has zero carbs!

Today is also Chocolate Mousse Day, Dr. Jane Goodall's 86th birthday, CCF Chewbaaka Memorial Day, Tweed Day, Walk to Work Day, and Rainbow Day.

By the way, the CCF Chewbaaka Memorial Day is from the Cheetah Conservation Fund, in memory of Chewbaaka, a cheetah. Just in case you're wondering why Chewbacca's name is spelled wrong.

It looked like the sky was blue when I let Russell ou... Fri, 3 Apr 2020 11:02:32 EST Thursday - Reconciliation Day Who do you need to reconcile with? Maybe yourself? Be sure and cut yourself (and everyone else!) some slack in these especially trying days. Be gentle with yourself.

Today is also Burrito Day (I like my burrito in a salad, minus the tortilla. It's something Mom and I can have together - her with the tortilla, me with lots of lettuce.), Ferret Day (no thanks!), DIY Day (boy, is that ever appropriate at the moment!), Autism Awareness Day, and Peanut Butter and Jelly Day.

... Wed, 1 Apr 2020 11:46:51 EST Wednesday - April Fool's Day! What was your favorite April Fool's Day trick? Either something that you did, or was done to you, or observed or heard about?

I have two favorites. First, when I was in kindergarten, we had dinner at on April Fool's Day at Aunt Dorothy's house. Three families of us - my family, Aunt Dorothy's family, and Aunt Carol's family. The women made a beautiful cake for dessert, with lots of thick pink frosting. They took the cake in to the table for Uncle Chuck to cut, and he couldn't. They... Wed, 1 Apr 2020 11:39:10 EST April Sanity Challenges Hi,
On the monthly challenge list we were doing daily 'sanity' challenges to help us deal with needing to do social distancing, dealing with isolation, stress, anxiety and depression. We decided for the month of April, we will do the sanity challenges (one a day) in a separate topic instead of hidden in the main April challenge. That way people can choose to follow one or the other, or of course both if you like!

I will be posting one challenge here every evening for the com... Tue, 31 Mar 2020 23:09:22 EST Tuesday - Crayola Crayon Day! Get out that old pack of crayons, folks, and do some coloring!

Today is also Clam Day (how about some low carb Clam Chowder? Yum!), Eiffel Tower Day, and World Backup Day. Putting the world in reverse for a few weeks sounds like a great idea!

I talked to a friend in California yesterday, and she asked me to please send her some TP if I could get it. Apparently things are pretty dire there. So I boxed up a few rolls and will take them to the post office and mail them. Whi... Tue, 31 Mar 2020 10:38:40 EST Homemade face masks There's been some discussion on Monday's thread about wearing face masks. There seems to be some disagreement among professionals about how much they help. But, as Leone, says, they can't hurt.

Homemade face masks will do less good than the official ones, but again, couldn't hurt. Here are links to a couple of sites with instructions on how to make them. Note that the second one suggests using vacuum cleaner bags (unused, of course!) inside the homemade masks. Seems like you could... Tue, 31 Mar 2020 10:33:58 EST Monday - Take a Walk in the Park Day Also Pencil Day, Doctors Day, I Am in Control Day, and Virtual Vacation Day.

"Classes" start again today. One class on Zoom, so I need to "attend," the other who knows how. I did ask the teacher yesterday whether we needed to show up for class, and she said no, and she'd be sending out an email today telling us how the class will be run for the rest of the semester. I really wish I "could" drop that class! I can, of course, and I'd get a Withdrawn Passing grade, not that the grade... Mon, 30 Mar 2020 10:33:30 EST Sunday - and International Mermaid Day! Also World Piano Day, Smoke and Mirrors Day, Lemon Chiffon Cake Day, and Mom & Pop Business Owners Day. Lots of smoke and mirrors these days, especially politically. And several Mom and Pop business owners here. Please identify yourselves so we can recognize you!

I'm bored. It was actually easier when I was at home. At least I had lots of papers to sort through, and lots of declutterind and organizing to do. I'm still glad I'm over here, though. I'd be a real mess if I were at ... Sun, 29 Mar 2020 11:07:17 EST Saturday - Hot Tub Day! Boy, does that ever sound good! Zero probability, but it sure sounds good.

Today is also Black Forest Cake Day (to admire from afar, not to eat), Eat an Eskimo Pie Day (Not!), Something on a Stick Day (a puppet, maybe?), and Earth Hour is 8:30 - 9:30 pm.

Not much going on around here. Still trying (sort of) to come up with a basic schedule for the day, a bit of structure. Will have more structure starting Monday, when classes start again.

Have a good day and d... Sat, 28 Mar 2020 09:35:13 EST Friday - and Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day Huh? I googled it and found some doozies, but I'll leave it to you to post the ones you can think of without looking. Does Marzy Doats count?

It's also "Joe" Day (why does Joe get a day to himself? where's the "Mary Anne" Day?), Spanish Paella Day, World Theater Day, and No Homework Day (wish I'd known about this one sooner - I have homework that needs to be done!).

And, most importantly of all, it's Mary Anne's birthday! That's right, folks. Today is the 64th anniversar... Fri, 27 Mar 2020 11:12:57 EST Thursday - Make Up Your Own Holiday Day! Yep. That's what today is. It's also (officially) Nougat Day, Spinach Day (spinach nougat, anyone?), Letting Go Of Stuff Day, and Live Long and Prosper Day.

Unofficially, my holiday is Hunker Down and Wait Day.

I'm hunkering down at Mom's house. Will leave in a bit to go over to my house to get some stuff I forgot yesterday, and get some gas. And lock my bedroom window. And see if I can get contact info for the people who live behind my neighbors, so I can ask them to ... Thu, 26 Mar 2020 13:02:04 EST Wednesday - Manatee Appreciation Day! I wonder what it is that manatees are supposed to appreciate today?

Today is also Procrastination Day (though in the world of FlyLady, every Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day), Tolkien Reading Day, Little Red Wagon Day, Pecan Day, and Waffle (er, make that Chaffle) Day.

"Classes" this morning. Technically, it's still Spring Break, but I'll spend those two 50 minute periods doing something related to the classes.

The guy who will actually be doing the land... Wed, 25 Mar 2020 10:28:24 EST Tuesday - Day for Achievers! That's us! It's a special day for us!

Also American Diabetes Alert Day and Chocolate Covered Raisins Day (a good juxtaposition, don't you think?)

My grocery order is supposed to be ready to pick up today. I have no idea how much of it will actually be there. I hope Mom's milk and bread is, anyway.

No plans for much of anything else.

Today is my brother's birthday. He usually gets together with a bunch of friends. May be a lonely birthday for him t... Tue, 24 Mar 2020 10:55:48 EST Monday - and Better Than OK Day! OK, officially it's just OK Day, but I say let's make it a Better Than OK Day! (We got a new receptionist at a place I used to work, who was always bright and sparkly and bubbly and so on. She was finally told to tone it down, at least until 9 o'clock! All that chirpiness as we dragged ourselves in at 8 was just too much.)

Today is also Puppy Day (however old your puppy may be!), Near Miss Day (or Near Missus Day, if you prefer!), Chips and Dips Day (make that crudites for me, plea... Mon, 23 Mar 2020 10:57:43 EST Sunday - and Let's All Support Each Other Day! That's my name for the day, by the way, nothing official. But makes a lot more sense than some of the official ones! Which are, in case you're wondering, Goof-off Day, World Water Day, Bavarian Crepes Day, and As Young As You Feel Day.

Have my three things (actually four, since I only did two of yesterday's yesterday) planned out on the Build Some Structure thread - work on papers in the office, set up and hook up my "new" printer (I've only had it, still in the box, since the fall... Sun, 22 Mar 2020 10:58:47 EST Cauli-rice and Asparag-rice Here's a tip for using almost all of a head of cauliflower or a bunch of fresh asparagus. Which is good for the environment, good for the pocketbook, and good in case of limited supplies.

You can make cauli-rice out of almost the whole head, including those leaves that are usually left on the bottom of the head, and the entire core, plus the little cores you cut off of the florets. Just cut them up into roughly 1" pieces, and pulse in your food processor until roughly rice-size. H... Sat, 21 Mar 2020 19:36:03 EST Saturday - Common Courtesy Day Don't you wish common courtesy were more common?

Today is also Quilting Day (get with it, Leone!), Corndog Day, Day of Forests, Fragrance Day, Single Parent Day, Poetry Day, Memory Day, and Maple Syrup Saturday. Maple syrup on your corndog, anyone?

DB is coming down for a brief visit today. He and his daughter and her boyfriend have moved into an isolated cabin for the duration. They're isolating starting tomorrow - kids come back from spring break next week in the colle... Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:05:57 EST Friday - the real International Day of Happiness! Oops! I gave today's days yesterday. So, other than a repeat of the International Day of Happiness (can't have too many of them, you know!), let's do yesterday's days today. They are (or were) Oatmeal Cookie Day (the day before was Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day, so was yesterday for sturdy oatmeal cookies?), Chocolate Caramel Day, Deskfast Day, Client's Day, Poultry Day, Let's Laugh Day (this one's for you, Leone!), and Swallows Return to Capistrano Day (I wonder if they did?).

Took that... Fri, 20 Mar 2020 10:57:30 EST Thursday - International Day of Happiness! We need something like that today.

Today is also the first day of spring, the Spring Equinox (which is basically the same thing), Snowman Burning Day (who comes up with these things?), World Storytelling Day, Ravioli Day, and Proposal Day (I wonder what we're supposed to propose - and to whom?).

I propose a day of eating on plan!

I will NOT go to the store today! Even though butter is $1.99 a pound, and you can get 5 pounds at a time. That is, according the ad... Thu, 19 Mar 2020 11:15:53 EST Weird and Wacky Wednesday Also Sloppy Joe Day, Awkward Moments Day and Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day.

Not much going on. Government class was online today, using Zoom. I guess kind of like Skype. Anyway, we could see the teacher but didn't have to turn on the video on our end. It went ok.

Supper last night was good. I cooked a turnip and some daikon with the corned beef and they turned out surprisingly good. Not much flavor. Pretty much like potatoes in that respect.

Therapy by phone yeste... Wed, 18 Mar 2020 14:53:34 EST Tuesday - and St. Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green? I'm not, at the moment, but will put on something green before Mom comes over for supper. Will use green place mats, too, probably.

I saw a recipe for Shamrock Salad in a couple of old cookbooks. You start with a green pepper, one that has three well-defined lobes. (I had never really noticed that they have three lobes, but they do.) You slice it, near the bottom where the lobes are more definite, and you have a shamrock shape! The recipe calls for stuffing ... Tue, 17 Mar 2020 10:01:13 EST Build some STRUCTURE: Three things I will do today We all seem to be a little loosey goosey lately. Anyone who wants to can post here with their daily "structure" plan.

Today I am going to go out and get my steps in, clean two bags in my closet, and get one new achievement in World of Warcraft. Mon, 16 Mar 2020 15:32:58 EST Monday - and Act Happy Day! Honest! It really is! I was going to come up with something positive if there was nothing official for the day.

Today is also Panda Day (cute little things!), Artichoke Hearts Day (I think I have a very old jar of pickled artichoke hearts that Mom got once upon a time. Maybe I'll try them.), Lips Appreciation Day (as in smacking them over the artichoke hearts?), and Everything You Do Is Right Day.

I've decided I need to impose some structure on my days. Haven't decided... Mon, 16 Mar 2020 09:48:23 EST Sunday - and The Ides Of March! Et tu, Brutus?

Today is also Pears Helene Day, Sunshine Sunday (and raining!), Dumbstruck Day, Peanut Lovers Day, and Buzzards Day.

Rainy today, but we need it. Got almost half an inch yesterday!

I'll do a little bit more shopping this morning on my way to Mom's house. I guess I am hoarding, but don't really think of it that way. I usually have lots of stuff at my house anyway - I was prepared for 6+ months for both Mom and me a couple of years ago, though I... Sun, 15 Mar 2020 09:24:01 EST Saturday - Ask a Question Day Do I really need to go to the store today, or can I wait a few days and hope that the panic buying will slow down? And the answer is that yes, I can wait. And I will wait.

Spring Break is week after next, and students are being encouraged not to return to campus. All classes will be online after Spring Break. One of my classes is going to online immediately, and I just email the instructor of the other class that I will not be going to classes next week. I'm not worried about mysel... Sat, 14 Mar 2020 11:04:14 EST Friday! Ruh roh. Is everybody afraid to start an unlucky thread?

I've been doing my weekly fridge cleaning, and chopped up some wilting veggies to add to my batch of chicken soup. I usually make chicken soup on the fly when somebody in the house is sick, but this time I decided to make a larger batch and portion it out in muffin tins and freeze it in case I'm the one who gets sick.

DH has been to a gajillion doctors over the past 3 weeks trying to find out what's going on with h... Fri, 13 Mar 2020 14:30:08 EST Thursday - Plant a Flower Day! Much too early around here. Though temps have been in the 50s for the past week or so and are supposed to stay that way for the next week or so... Our average last frost day is the middle of May.

Also Girl Scouts Day, Baked Scallops Day, Popcorn Lovers Day, and Milky Way Candy Bar Day. I wonder how companies are able to get special days for their products?

Not much planned for today. Will go over to Mom's this morning and get her tax stuff ready and take it to her acco... Thu, 12 Mar 2020 09:28:42 EST Wacky, Wonderful, Weird, Wild, Wondrous Wednesday! Also Eat Your Noodles Day (make that Zoodles, please!), Key Deer Awareness Day (only the important deer?), Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day (chaffles, anyone?), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day (but only if they're up to date on the real role that carbs play in nutrition!), Plumbing Day (now that one's important - both internal and external plumbing!), and Worship of Tools Day.

Classes this morning and that's about it. Wed, 11 Mar 2020 10:00:51 EST Tuesday - International Bagpipe Day! But not near me, please!

Also Ranch Dressing Day, Day of Awesomeness, Pack Your Lunch Day, and Organize Your Home Office Day!

I get my taxes done this afternoon. For free. From AARP. Nice. My returns are very simple - just Social Security and a little bit of investment income. Still, it's nice not to have to keep up with the laws.

Other than that, just housework and homework and Russell Walks. And I might go to Walmart and Costco and see what they still have... Tue, 10 Mar 2020 09:48:41 EST Monday - Panic Day AND Get Over It Day! Both. On the same day. Also Napping Day, Crabmeat Day, Fill Our Staplers Day, and Meatball Day.

Classes this morning. There's a City Club meeting at noon, with a couple of retired long-time politicians talking about how to have a civil discourse in uncivil times. The college is paying for lunch for students, which I didn't know when I signed up and paid. Oh well. I don't need it, and it saves that much for other students for other things, if and when. Take home geography test due a... Mon, 9 Mar 2020 10:14:29 EST Sunday - Wake up, Sleepyhead! Hope everyone remembered to change their clocks and no one was late for anything this morning!

Today is also Prooffreading Day, International Women's Day, Peanut Cluster Day, Check Your Batteries Day (in your smoke alarms), and, of course, the first day of Daylight Savings Time.

Grocery shopping this morning, then over to Mom's house with her groceries and to fill her pill boxes and change her clocks. Homework and housework, and Russell Walks. And that's about it.
... Sun, 8 Mar 2020 11:01:47 EST Saturday - Be Heard Day! Like maybe whine really loudly?

Also Plant Power Day (not Power Plant Day!), Bowl of Cereal Day, Crown Roast of Pork Day (now that's a food day I could get behind!), Genealogy Day, and World Math Day. I guess World Math Day is to get us in the mood for Pi Day next week.

Just a few more days and I will be officially stalled. Sigh.

I'll go over to Mom's house this morning. I need to make sure her TV is set up so she can watch Lawrence Welk tonight while she dr... Sat, 7 Mar 2020 09:14:47 EST Friday - Middle Name Pride Day! Anne. With an "e," please.

Also Employee Appreciation Day, Frozen Food Day, Doodle Day (yesterday was Cheese Doodle Day, maybe tomorrow will be Yankee Doodle Day?), Dentists Day, Oreo Cookie Day, and White Chocolate Cheesecake Day.

Also, for our dear friend Debb, it's Freaky Friday, Fantastic Friday, Frigid Friday (though it's not, not really, at least not here), Fabulous Friday, Festive Friday, Funky Friday, Fantasy Friday, Fasting Friday or Feasting Friday, Frantic Fr... Fri, 6 Mar 2020 09:57:39 EST Thursday - Multiple Personality Day! Does it count that I am both BudgetMaw and SimpleMaw here?

Today is also Nametag Day, Cinco de Marcho, and Cheese Doodle Day (I thought it said Chinese Doodle Day, and sort of wondered how you could tell the difference between actual Chinese characters and Chinese doodles, unless you happened to be Chinese).

I'd better stop. I have a feeling I've already been about as politically incorrect as I can, especially for this early in the morning! Thu, 5 Mar 2020 09:29:40 EST Wedneday - Hug a GI Day! I have visions of folks going up to anyone in uniform and trying to hug them, and getting attacked for their efforts. Or sued. You should probably ask for permission first. On the other hand, this is for you, Naypooie! 247 And for any other active military and all veterans, too! Thank you.

Classes today. Computer assignments in both classes. Other studying to do. A bit of housework. Walk Russell. Just the usual.

Picked up the latest JD Robb book at the librar... Wed, 4 Mar 2020 09:56:27 EST Tuesday - Unique Names Day! Got a few of them on this team!

Also World Wildlife Day (have a party!), Simplify Your Life Day (and don't we all need that one!), If Pets Had Thumbs Day (Yikes!), National Anthem Day, and Sportsmanship Day (I need that one - I'm a bad loser and an even worse winner!).

Over to Mom's this morning, maybe the library afterwards, walk Russell, and study. That's my plan for the day. Pretty simple, if I do say so myself.

Tue, 3 Mar 2020 09:44:57 EST Monday - Dr. Seuss's Read Across USA Day! Not sure what that's all about, but sounds like a good idea.

It's also Old Stuff Day and Banana Cream Pie Day. And, as usual, Maniac Monday Day!

Classes this morning. Russell Walks. Housework. Homework. The usual. I am committing, though, to getting in at least six 15-minute Geography study sessions.

You may remember how much trouble I had with Discrete Math last semester. It was hard! Really hard, but interesting. Geography is just plain not interesting. No... Mon, 2 Mar 2020 09:19:01 EST Sunday - Whuppity Scoorie Day Look it up!

Also Refired. Not Retired Day, Peanut Butter Lovers Day (just be sure you get the all natural kind with no added sugar), Horse Protection Day, Pig Day (for eating or for protecting?), Compliment Day (I'm sure glad you're my friends!), Namesake Day (my mother's name is Margaret Anne, but when Granddaddy told the minister her name when she was christened, he goofed and said Mary Anne. I was named Mary Anne - both "officially" and when christened.), Fruit Compote Day (with... Sun, 1 Mar 2020 10:25:35 EST Sunday and Hello Happy Sunday. Just wanted to pop in and say hello! How is everyone doing?! Sun, 1 Mar 2020 10:22:01 EST FlyLady March Challenge: Day 31 Today is Sunday: Renew Your Spirit Day
458
This week we are in Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room

This month's Habit is: Getting Dressed to Shoes
346
Morning Routine:
Get Dressed to Shoes including Hair/Face, Brush Teeth
Make Bed
Swish & Swipe
Empty Dishwasher
Reboot Laundry (a Load a Day Keeps CHAOS Away)
Check Your Calendar
... Sun, 1 Mar 2020 08:00:29 EST March Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. As with other challenges, you decide on what you want your budget to be and when you will report. We are here to support one another in whatever our personal goals may be! Sat, 29 Feb 2020 16:24:08 EST Saturday - Leap Day! Also Bachelor's Day, Surf and Turf Day, and International Underlings Day.

DB Nick called at 7:11 this morning. He said he figured Russell would have me up anyway. He called DB Don, first, though - he figured it was 9:00 where Don lives so Don would be up. Don missed the call, and called Nick back while we were talking, and Nick managed to put us on a conference call. Scared Don when I came in to the conversation - what was so important that we needed a conference call? Was Mom OK? ... Sat, 29 Feb 2020 09:49:25 EST March Monthly Challenge - Get Your Sleep! Our team challenge for March is to get enough sleep. Or at least to get to bed on time! Practicing good sleep hygiene is good, too. You decide when "bed time" is for you. Remember that it's best to be consistent with both when you get up and when you go to bed, even on the weekends. Though we do have a challenge in that respect this month - Daylight Savings Time starts next Sunday.

In addition, we're going to do the Daily Challenge again. See the next post for the month's schedule... Fri, 28 Feb 2020 20:00:28 EST Daily Challenge Challenges Here's a list of the challenges we've had so far, plus maybe a couple. They're sorted by food related, exercise related, and lifestyle related.

plan your meals for the day
count your carbs
make a meal out of things that are going bad soon in the fridge
try a new LC recipe
no snacking between meals
eat your meal at the table without distractions
eat a salad
track your food for the day
drink lots of water
try a new recipe
no snacking... Fri, 28 Feb 2020 19:24:21 EST Friday - Tooth Fairy Day! Though I'm hoping I won't need to be visited by her again!

It's also Tartar Sauce Day, Floral Design Day (like for your quilt, Leone?), Skip the Straw Day (it took me a minute - I was thinking in terms of bedding in stables or something like that), and Chocolate Souffle Day.

Classes this morning. Meeting this afternoon with the therapist I'd been seeing on campus about switching to someone else. Studying for the map quiz and geography exam on Monday. And that's about i... Fri, 28 Feb 2020 10:03:01 EST Thursday - No Brainer Day! Yep. I had to read that twice. No, it does not say No Brain Day!

Today is also Chili Day, Retro Day, Polar Bear Day (poor things - have you seen the pictures of the starving polar bears stranded on ice?) and Strawberry Day (I wonder why Strawberry Day in February?). How about that - the two kinds of food for today (plus retro - I have a recipe from the 1930s for what amounts to tuna noodle casserole, but made with cauliflower instead of noodles!) that we can actually eat!
<B... Thu, 27 Feb 2020 09:28:05 EST COVID19, aka the Coronavirus All of us are going to be exposed to a cubic boatload of misinformation on this issue. These 3 videos will give you the birdseye view of what's going on and what you need to do.

Step One: DON'T PANIC
Step Two: Watch any or all of these videos:

01/29/2020
02/05/2020
02/19/2020
Wed, 26 Feb 2020 13:38:02 EST Wednesday - Personal Chef Day Do you have one? Are you one? Do you wish you had one? I am my own personal chef and I'm happy this way. Pretty sure I wouldn't like someone else doing all my cooking. I enjoy cooking and it's so flexible this way. Though there are those times when I kind of wish someone else would decide what I'm going to eat. Actually, I'd be more interested in a personal dish washer and KP-person.

Today is also Ash Wednesday, Tell a Fairy Tale Day, For 'Goodness' Sake Day, Inconvenience Yourself... Wed, 26 Feb 2020 07:51:23 EST Tuesday - Fat Tuesday! aka Mardi Gras - and the special days for today reflect it! It's also International Pancake Day, Clam Chowder Day, Wine and Cheese Day, and Chocolate Covered Peanuts Day.

Lots of little things to do today - put away laundry, finish vacuuming (without the help of a EUFY, unfortunately!), sweep, go to Mom's house, and so forth. Mostly I need to STUDY!

Hope you have a great day! Tue, 25 Feb 2020 10:29:12 EST Monday - Play More Cards Day Also Tortilla Chip Day and World Bartender Day.

Did I ever sleep last night! Didn't get to bed until a little after 11, but went right to sleep. Woke up twice to go to the bathroom, but went right back to sleep both times. And was sleeping soundly when the alarm went off at 8! Russell didn't even bother me to say he wanted his breakfast and out. And I'm not even groggy this morning, which I frequently am if I stay in bed too late. Nice!

No geography class this morning, ... Mon, 24 Feb 2020 11:14:42 EST Sunday - Curling is Cool Day! Which I assume refers to Curling as a sport (have you ever watched it? It's been at the winter olympics for a few years now), not curling one's hair. Like Frieda in Peanuts, I have red, naturally curling hair. Or at least I used to. Most of the red has leached out and it's a mixture of brown and gray now, and just barely wavy. But I still don't curl it, with a cool curler or a hot one!

Today is also Academy Awards - Oscars Day, Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day (Russell is all in favor ... Sun, 23 Feb 2020 11:01:11 EST Saturday - For the Love of Pete Day! Do you know any Pete's? I don't think I do.

It is also World Yoga Day, National Wildlife Day, Walking the Dog Day (Russell approves of this, but thinks it's every day, not just today!), Cook a Sweet Potato Day, Thinking Day (don't think so!), and Be Humble Day.

I'll go over to Mom's house this morning and try to clear out the laundry sink. It's got lots of scaly gunk in it that needs to be cleaned out. I doubt that the sink has been cleaned since we moved there 40 years... Sat, 22 Feb 2020 09:51:19 EST Friday - Caregivers Day Also Sticky Bun Day and Mother Language Day.

I have an online meeting this morning, so of course today is the day my computer would decide to update or something. Took more than 10 minutes! Good thing I happened, quite by happenstance, to get up early.

Other than that, just classes today.

I was digging in my fridge yesterday for some veggie, and found a cucumber and a zucchini that I'd gotten on Sunday and forgotten about. It inspired me to do a veggie invent... Fri, 21 Feb 2020 08:51:56 EST Thursday - Love Your Pet Day Though why one needs a special day for that I don't know. Kind of like yesterday's day - it happens every day!

Also Hoodie-Hoo Day (

e-hoo-day/
), Fat Thursday Day (aka Mardi Gras), Cherry Pie Day, and Muffin Day.

Speaking of muffins, seems like folks used to talk about MIM/OMM's (Muffin in a Minute/One Minute Muffin) a lot, but I never hear them mentioned anymore. Haven't had one in a long time, myself. I've seen r... Thu, 20 Feb 2020 09:31:50 EST Wednesday - Temporary Insanity Day! I'm surprised they made a special day for this. Seems like it should include January 1, January 2, January 3, etc.

Today is also Tug-of-War Day and Chocolate Mint Day. That's not much, so I looked a bit further and found that February is Dog Training Education Month (that's for you, Leone!), National Bird Feeding Month, National Embroidery Month (that's for you, too, Leonie!), and Responsible Pet Owners Month.

Classes this morning. Tests in both classes on Monday and I ... Wed, 19 Feb 2020 10:21:16 EST Tuesday - Pluto Day I assume they're referring to the poor little ex-planet, not the dog. I guess if you've been demoted it's only fair to give you your own day to sort of make up for it.

Today is also Battery Day, Flirting Day, and ICYMI Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.

Doctor appointment this morning. Regular three month visit that is required to get one of my meds. The nurse couldn't hear my blood pressure in my left arm, so went and got the machine to do it instead. It came up with 91/4... Tue, 18 Feb 2020 12:35:48 EST Monday - Random Acts of Kindness Day! Don't forget to be kind to yourself, too!

Today is also Presidents Day (and no classes for me!), Cafe Au Lait Day (which is actually low carb if you use heavy whipping cream and artificial (or no) sweetener), My Way Day, and Human Spirit Day. A pretty good collection of Days for today!

As I said, no classes today, though I do desperately need to study! I think these are the first classes that I really wish I were auditing. I'm bored with both of them and really do not wa... Mon, 17 Feb 2020 10:39:55 EST Sunday - Do A Grouch A Favor Day! As a Grouch myself, I heartily endorse this day! Though if I'm really honest about it, it would probably piss me off if you do!

Wasn't sure whether they would accept the "p" word, but I see that they did.

Today is also the DAYTONA 500 Race, Almond Day (finally! a food day we can get behind!), and Innovation Day.

Need to get things done today, since I did nothing yesterday. Already did my knee exercises, which I've been slacking off on. Need to take a shower, t... Sun, 16 Feb 2020 10:32:43 EST Saturday - Plan B Day! Whatever Plan B is. I seldom have a plan A, let alone a Plan B!

Also World Whale Day, World Pangolin Day, and Hippo Day; I Want Butterscotch Day and Gumdrop Day.

Have you seen the PBS show on Pangolin's? Kind of creepy looking things, IMHO. And I heard that they might be origin of this new coronovirus. But I guess they're entitled to their own day just like the hippos and the whales.

Nothing on the calendar for today.

Mom came over for Valentine's... Sat, 15 Feb 2020 09:27:18 EST Friday - International Book Giving Day! Also No One Eats Alone Day, Cream Filled Chocolates Day, Ferris Wheel Day, and Donor Day. Oh, and Valentine's Day, too.

School this morning, and Mom is coming over for Valentine's Day Dinner tonight. We're having pork chops from that pig I bought. Also asparagus, salad, and some sort of berries for dessert.

Red sky this morning, so I guess I should take warning. I'll check the forecast and see whether I can walk to school or if I should drive.

Thanks to Fly... Fri, 14 Feb 2020 09:49:55 EST Thursday - Use an Alternate Name Day! So what's your alternate name? Not your screen name here, but another alternate name. Maybe what you wish you'd been named?

When I worked in Montana, we had a partner who always called me Margaret. (My name is Mary Anne.) I worked there for five years, and he always called me Margaret. I called him on it, finally, and he said, "Well, at least I don't call you Peggy!" He said I looked like a Margaret, whatever that looks like. My mom, I guess, whose name is Margaret. Except that sh... Thu, 13 Feb 2020 09:46:12 EST Wednesday - Lost Penny Day It's also Carbage Day - PB&J Day, Biscotti Day, and Plum Pudding Day. I think today should be FOUND Penny Day, not Lost Penny Day!

DB called yesterday and asked if he could spend the night here. Sudden plan to drive down to Utah to pick up step-son and take him elsewhere. I thought DB said he'd be here tonight, not last night. Fortunately, DB called to say he was stuck in traffic and would be late. Also fortunately, I've joined a few of you in doing FlyLady, or some version the... Wed, 12 Feb 2020 09:39:03 EST Tuesday - Look at the Sunlight Day! Which isn't official, it's something I made up. But have you noticed how much earlier it's getting light? And how much later it's staying light? Nothing like it will be in a few months, but so much better than it was a month ago!

Officially, it's Peppermint Patty Day (the one from Charles Schulz, I'm sure!), Get Out Your Guitar Day (but please play it when I'm not around!), Gratified Being Single Day (don't know about gratified, but I'm happy being single), Extraterrestrial Culture... Tue, 11 Feb 2020 10:29:21 EST Monday - Clean Out Your Computer Day Hmm. Probably a good idea, but not likely to get done.

Today is also Umbrella Day (doesn't look like it's going to rain here), Flannel Day (does anyone wear flannel these days except babies?), Plimsoll Day (Plimsoll's are like old fashioned Ked's - not the high top kind but the kind that were rubber soles and canvas tops - like Grasshoppers, if you remember them.), and Cream Cheese Brownie Day.

Took my first exam in geography. On the computer, from a set of test questi... Mon, 10 Feb 2020 09:54:17 EST Sunday - Read in the Bathtub Day Ah, that's my kind of day! I did that last night and the night before, though, so probably won't do it today. I put some coconut oil (like for cooking) in the water and my body feels so silky when I get out. I start with the water as hot as I can stand it (and sometimes top up with a bit more hot water later), and as deep as it can go and still let me rest my book on my tummy (not nearly as deep as it used to be!) and then soak and read for an hour or so. Delightful!

Today is also... Sun, 9 Feb 2020 11:49:25 EST Saturday - Laugh and Get Rich Day Don't know what that's all about. Maybe they mean laugh at the idea of getting rich?

It's also Opera Day (no thank you!), Boy Scouts Day, Kite Flying Day (it's really windy here today), and Molasses Bar Day (oh, I guess that's probably a cookie - I was thinking a bar like for drinking, and that didn't make sense).

Nothing planned for today. Probably won't even go over to Mom's house. I went over yesterday afternoon. Sat, 8 Feb 2020 11:10:39 EST Friday - Send a Card to a Friend Day! I debated between picking Send a Card to a Friend Day and Work Naked Day. Decided sending a card was probably the better choice.

Today is also Ballet Day, Rose Day, Bubblegum Day, Wear RED Day (anyone know why?), Fettucine Afredo Day, and Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day (as opposed to just one finger?).

Got to go. Classes this morning, including a quiz. This afternoon I need to go to Walmart and pick up a Rx for Mom and then take it over to her.

C... Fri, 7 Feb 2020 10:18:17 EST Thursday - Chopsticks Day I've heard of "diets" where you eat your food with chopsticks. The idea is that it takes so long to eat with chopsticks that you won't eat very much. Maybe it's true when you first start with chopsticks, but it didn't take very long until I could really load those chopsticks up! Living in Taiwan for a couple of years may have helped with that.

It's also Lame Duck Day (any lame ducks in your flock, Debb?) and Frozen Yogurt Day.

Nothing officially on the schedule for toda... Thu, 6 Feb 2020 10:58:30 EST Wednesday - Western Monarch Butterfly Day Not much going on today. Or tomorrow either, I see. Today is also Weatherperson's Day, Chocolate Fondue Day and Nutella Day.

Classes this morning and that's about it for me today. Wed, 5 Feb 2020 09:31:56 EST Tuesday - Homemade Soup Day! Sounds good to me! And actually a "food day" that we can recognize and embrace! Though I've already planned my food for the day and it doesn't include soup, homemade or otherwise. Though I supposed I could always change my plans...

The homemade soup I have most often is some variation on egg drop soup. Heat up some bone broth, add whatever veggies are handy, then when the veggies are done add some eggs and mix them in. Sometimes I add cream, too, if I need the calories and fat. Goo... Tue, 4 Feb 2020 13:15:00 EST Monday - Feed the Birds Day! Also Carrot Cake Day, Honey Badger Day, Day the Music Died, and Golden Retriever Day.

Brr! 17 out right now, feels like -1. High yesterday was 50 (must have been early in the day!), high the day before was 55. Big change. It's snowing, too, though not very much and very fine flakes. You'd think it was winter today or something!

My 9 o'clock class today was cancelled, but we have assignments to do instead. That's ok. I'm glad to stay home for a couple of extra hours. I wa... Mon, 3 Feb 2020 10:17:18 EST Sunday - Groundhog Day! I read somewhere that Punxsutawney Phil is wrong more than half the time. Given that there are only two choices, seems like it would make more sense to reverse what his prognostication means. Anyway, our local rock chuck (we have rock chucks instead of wood chucks or groundhogs) saw his shadow - or would have if he were up and about - so I'm saying we'll have an early spring. So there!

Today is also Super Bowl Sunday (as if you didn't already know that), World Wetlands Day (we have... Sun, 2 Feb 2020 10:59:07 EST FlyLady February Challenge: Day 29 Today is Saturday: Family Fun Day
185
This week we are in 2 Zones:
Zone 5: The Living Room
Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room

January Habit: Shining Your Sink
February Habit: Decluttering for 15 Minutes a Day

Morning Routine:
Get Dressed to Shoes including Hair/Face, Brush Teeth
Make Bed
Swish & Swipe
Empty Dishwasher
Reboot Laundry (a Load a Day ... Sat, 1 Feb 2020 12:14:34 EST Saturday - Change Password Day Gosh! I have so many passwords! I hate to change the ones I actually know. I guess it wouldn't hurt to change the ones I don't know anyway. I should change them all, I'm sure.

It's also basically Stuff Your Face with Junk Day. It's Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, Cake Pops Day, Baked Alaska Day, and Dark Chocolate Day. Also Hula in the Coola Day and Freedom Day. How about Freedom from Junk Food Day? I just made up the last one.

Happy February, everyone!

May go... Sat, 1 Feb 2020 09:29:52 EST February Team Challenge - Plan Your Food! Our team challenge for February is to plan your food. Whatever that means to you. Plan your food a week ahead. Plan your food a day ahead. Plan your food as you take it out of the fridge. Whatever. Just plan ahead enough that you're not just mindlessly taking out food and eating it.

In addition, we're going to do the Daily Challenge again. Charlene has come up with a list of daily challenges and will post them here en masse, and I'll post the next day or two's each evening. Or mos... Fri, 31 Jan 2020 14:55:41 EST February Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. As with other challenges, you decide on what you want your budget to be and when you will report. We are here to support one another in whatever our personal goals may be! Fri, 31 Jan 2020 11:55:32 EST Friday - Gorilla Suit Day? I think not.

It's also Fun at Work Day, Hot Chocolate Day, Hell Is Freezing Over Day, Zebra Day, Big Wig Day, Backward Day, and Inspire Your Heart with Art Day.

Classes this morning. I think I'll walk to school again. The weather is right for it. At least I think it is. It's still too dark to really tell. And that's about all I have planned for the day. Fri, 31 Jan 2020 09:38:09 EST Thursday - Yodel for Your Neighbor Day Also Escape Day, Croissant Day, and New Voicemail Greeting Day.

OA phone meeting in a few minutes, then to the store to buy 5 pounds (the limit) of butter for $1.99. Then to Mom's house. And that's about it for the day, other than some housework and some homework.

Looks pretty drizzly out. Thu, 30 Jan 2020 09:30:14 EST Wednesday - Curmudgeons Day I qualify. Do you?

"Curmudgeons can come in any age group, and there's something to be said for them in a world where so much enthusiasm seems phony and desperate. When everyone around you feels plastic and rah-rah, curmudgeonitude can feel like the only sane option.

"That's probably why National Curmudgeons Day, celebrated on January 29, is growing in popularity. That particular date was selected to honor the ornery among us because it is the birthday of comedian, writ... Wed, 29 Jan 2020 10:00:48 EST Tuesday - Kazoo Day! But please - not around me!

Also Data Privacy Day, Blueberry Pancake Day, Daisy Day, Plan for a Vacation Day, and Speak Up & Succeed Day.

Have you noticed how almost every day is some kind of food day?

Slept in a little bit this morning, then got my morning stuff done (except for the computer stuff that I'm doing now), and will do the shopping and go over to Mom's house shortly. It's a gray, drizzly morning, but warm enough that I can take Russell and lea... Tue, 28 Jan 2020 11:09:31 EST Monday - Holocaust Memorial Day I wonder how I would have reacted had I lived during the days of the Holocaust. Would I have just turned a blind eye, pretended (or maybe even believed) I didn't know anything about it? I'm afraid I probably would have. What issues today am I doing the same thing with?

A bit of a downer to start the day, but something to think about. It's also Chocolate Cake Day, Punch the Clock Day, National Geographic Day, and Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. I'd much rather have Bubble Wrap Appreci... Mon, 27 Jan 2020 09:54:52 EST Sleep in Sunday! Well, that's not the official title of the day, but it's what I did. Officially, it's Spouses Day (note that it's plural and not possessive!), Grammy Awards, Peanut Brittle Day, Dental Drill Appreciation Day, Green Juice Day, and Australia Day. I'll stick with Sleeping in Day, thank you very much!

It was hard to get out of bed this morning. Russell let me sleep until about a quarter after 7, at which time I fed him and let him out, then we both went back to bed. I dragged myself ou... Sun, 26 Jan 2020 11:47:46 EST Saturday - Chinese New Year! It's the year of the rat. It represents the beginning of a new day.

It is also Opposite Day, Irish Coffee Day, and A Room of One's Own Day.

I really like the last one. I'm the only girl in my family, so I had a room of my own after first grade. Until then I shared a room with my little brother. I shared a room for a couple years in college and did not like it. Since I got out of college, I've not only not shared a room with anyone (never married, either) but I've never ... Sat, 25 Jan 2020 11:01:29 EST Friday - Compliment Day In the spirit of which, may I tell you all how glad I am you are here with me and that you really really help me on my road to recovery. I couldn't do it without you.

Today is also Belly Laugh Day, Peanut Butter Day, and Cell Phone Recycling Day.

Moderating an OA phone meeting this morning, then classes. I think that's all I have scheduled for today. All I have planned for today, too, whether it's scheduled or not! Well, other than a Russell Walk or two, and house work... Fri, 24 Jan 2020 09:21:36 EST Instagram and/or Youtube Do any of you follow LC or Keto people on Instagram or Youtube? I have a handful of people I follow but I'm always looking for more inspiration.

Here's a few I like that are on both Insta & YT:

High fat high fun
Keto rewind
Keto connect
Ketoginga

On Instagram only:

Stella is striving
Gormy_goes_keto

Stella & Gormy have lost over 200 pounds each and are very motivational.
Thu, 23 Jan 2020 10:33:58 EST Thursday - Measure Your Feet Day I have absolutely no idea why! It's also Handwriting Day, Pie Day (Your Choice), and Clashing Clothes Day.

OA meeting this morning, then to Mom's house for games of some sort and picking out the new tiles for the basement. Bridge this afternoon (lunch first at the restaurant). Maybe a meeting about refugees this evening.

I have beef knuckle bones simmering away in the crock pot. I'll gnaw the cartilage and such off the bones for supper.

Have a great day! Thu, 23 Jan 2020 09:42:48 EST Wednesday - Answer Your Cat's Questions Day Q: 239
A: Because I already fed you.
Q: 239
A: Because I just let you in!!!!
Q: 239
A: Because I'm a little busy right now, ask me later.
Q: 239
A: Because you're not allowed to bat your brother on the head, and no, you can't come back in right now!!!!

Same chores, different day. A little work in the basement, the usual housekeeping, some paperwork and political work.

Happy Wednesday! Wed, 22 Jan 2020 12:15:48 EST Tuesday - Squirrel Appreciation Day Lots of squirrels in my neighborhood. The neighbor on one side of me feeds them intentionally, and I'm sure that other neighbors who feed the birds also feed the squirrels. I feed them with my compost pile.

Today is also Hugging Day, Museum Selfie Day, New England Clam Chowder Day (don't forget you can make a really good low carb clam chowder!), Sweatpants Day, and Granola Bar Day.

I've been freezing lately, even in sweats, a fleece vest and a long quilted bathrobe and... Tue, 21 Jan 2020 10:50:31 EST New Girl in Town Hello All,

My name is Emily and I am currently following a Ketogenic diet. I have been on one type or another LC diet over the last couple of decades with some great success but unfortunately my all of nothing attitude has caused me to fall off the wagon repeatedly.

Here's hoping 2020 my year :) Tue, 21 Jan 2020 09:11:13 EST Monday - Martin Luther King Day Also Cheese Lovers Day, Penguin Awareness Day (the 9th was Positively Penguins Day), Disc Jockey Day, Blue Monday, Buttercrunch Day, and Day of Acceptance.

No school today, which is nice. Not at all sure I like it, being, as I am, very old school. We'll see. I especially don't like it when an assignment is due on line and the computer is down all day of the day it's due!

Nothing much planned for today. Mom invited me over for supper.

Have a good day. Mon, 20 Jan 2020 11:21:19 EST Sunday - Good Memory Day Any specially good memories you'd like to share? I'll have to think about it. I have lots of good memories, but seems like a lot of them are of the "you had to be there" variety.

It's also Popcorn Day, Tin Can Day, World Quark Day, and Whisper "I Love You" Day.

Grocery shopping for Mom and me this morning, then over to Mom's house for some games. We're both tired of RummiKube, Dice and Monopoly, but Mom hasn't liked anything else I've taken over. I'm taking over Uno tod... Sun, 19 Jan 2020 10:02:45 EST Saturday - Thesaurus Day So, hello, aloha, ciao, hail, hi, how-do-you-do, howdy, regards, salaam, best wishes, good wishes, and what's happening.

Today is also Museum Selfie Day, Gourmet Coffee Day, Winnie the Pooh Day, World Day of the Snowman, and Soup Swap Day. I wish I knew someone I could swap soup with!

I'll go over to Mom's house this morning and play some games, then come home and let Russell out and eat some lunch, then back over close to where Mom lives to play cards this afternoon. ... Sat, 18 Jan 2020 10:56:42 EST Friday - Pitch New Years Resolutions Day Though I don't have any to ditch...

Also Cable Car Day, Mentoring Day, and Kid Inventors' Day.

Not much on the agenda today. I already did my exercises, swished and swiped, made my bed, put away yesterday's dishes, fed the dog, got signed up for the e-book for one of my classes, and fixed and ate breakfast. Classes this morning. Russell Walks. And, I hope, a couple of conversations with the fix-it folks for Mom's house.

Have a great day! Fri, 17 Jan 2020 09:44:40 EST Thursday - Nothing Day Honest. That's what it says - Nothing Day. Also Fig Newton Day and Appreciate a Dragon Day and International Hot & Spicy Food Day.

Cards this afternoon at the Senior Center. A Russell Walk or two. Some light housework. Homework. Setting up the Chromebook I got to take to school with me, and setting up the online stuff for my classes. Mostly puttering, other than cards this afternoon.

Have a great day, and, if you happen to see one, give a dragon a little pat for me... Thu, 16 Jan 2020 10:35:08 EST Wednesday - Hat Day That's "hat" as in keeping my head and ears warm, not "hot" as in a fashion accessory. At least for me. I never have been one for wearing hats, except for warmth. And maybe a sun hat to keep the sun off my head and ears when I was fishing.

Today is also Pothole Day, National Bagel Day, Fresh Squeezed Juice Day, and Strawberry Ice Cream Day. Not a great selection for today.

Classes this morning. If I remember I may listen in to an OA meeting between my classes. There's ... Wed, 15 Jan 2020 09:56:28 EST Tuesday - Organize Your Home Day! I definitely need that!

It's also International Kite Day, Shop for Travel Day, Dress Up Your Pet Day (no thank you, except maybe a jacket to keep him warm if we go for a walk), and Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day. Hmm. That last sounds good. I haven't had a pastrami sandwich - hot or cold - in ages. Years, probably.

Classes yesterday were ok, other than one teacher telling a very long story about how she got interested in geography and saying "The irony is..." at least half a... Tue, 14 Jan 2020 09:57:57 EST Monday - Rubber Ducky Day Also International Skeptics Day, Clean Off Your Desk Day, Sticker Day, and Make Dreams Come True Day.

Actually, I like the first and the last ones best.

But, most important as far as I'm concerned, today is the first day of school!

It snowed last night. Not very much, maybe an inch or so, but enough that I don't want to walk to school. Well, actually I DO want to walk to school, but don't think it's a very good idea. I would if I had a locker to put my boots... Mon, 13 Jan 2020 09:55:31 EST Sunday - Hot Tea Day Also Sunday Supper Day, Kiss a Ginger Day, Curried Chicken Day, National Pharmacist Day, and Marzipan Day.

Nothing much planned for today. The roads look ok, so I'll go to the store and pick up a few things for Mom, then go over to her house to play some games. That's about it.

The recliner came yesterday, and Russell definitely approves! It's good to be able to have him either on my lap or between my legs (so I can rest the computer on my legs and his head).
<BR... Sun, 12 Jan 2020 11:03:55 EST Saturday - Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day! -- .- .-. -.-- | .- -. -. .

That's according to And no, I haven't learned it.

Today is also World Sketchnote Day, Heritage Treasures Day, Milk Day, Secret Pal Day (you're all sort of my secret pals!), and Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day (obviously from someone who lives a lot farther south than I do!).

One of my brothers is really into amateur radio, especially it's use for emergencies. Among other things, he's usually involve... Sat, 11 Jan 2020 09:21:59 EST Friday - Peculiar People Day This day is clearly meant for me! It's also Save the Eagles Day, Bittersweet Chocolate Day, Houseplant Appreciation Day, and Cut Your Energy Costs Day.

You know how you keep hearing abut Energy Vampires, and how you should unplug all your electronics because they're sucking up energy even when they're off? Well, for my "lab" for my Environmental Science class last semester, I got one of those energy meter things from the library, and checked to see how much energy I had been wastin... Fri, 10 Jan 2020 09:36:38 EST Thursday - Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Also Apricot Day, Play God Day, Static Electricity Day, and Positively Penguins Day.

Honest! I'm not making these up! I'm just copying them from the calendar!

Bridge again this afternoon. The cards were really strange yesterday, or the distribution was. I came in second to the bottom. Actually, it wasn't a good day for much of anyone!

And that's about it for today Thu, 9 Jan 2020 09:33:29 EST Wednesday - Take the Stairs Day Also Argyle Day, Bubble Bath Day, English Toffee Day, and Show and Tell at Work Day.

It occurred to me that the recliner that I bought is big enough for me but not big enough for Russell and me. I need to get back to the store and get a bigger one, before they deliver the one I bought!

I received two phone calls yesterday, within a couple of hours of each other. Both calls were asking me to play bridge, this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. I said yes to both. I assume... Wed, 8 Jan 2020 09:59:09 EST Tuesday - Not Going to Take It Anymore Day! Whatever that means. Also Tempura Day, Old Rock Day, and Bobblehead Day.

Bought my new recliner yesterday. They're supposed to deliver it on Saturday, and take away my old one. When I bought my old recliner, I got the one with the widest seat I could find, to accommodate my seat. The new one is smaller. A bit snug, though not fat. I dasn't gain much weight or my recliner won't fit!

Not much in the way of plans for the day except Russell Walks and washing out the innards ... Tue, 7 Jan 2020 09:24:55 EST Monday - Cuddle Up Day! Also Three Kings Day, Bean Day, Apple Tree Day, Handset Monday, "Thank God it's Monday" Day, Take Down Christmas Tree Day, and Shortbread Day. I wonder why Apple Tree Day in January? Are you supposed to prune or plant apple trees now? As for Take Down Christmas Tree Day, my brothers and SIL who were staying with Mom took down the tree for me. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it was down when I went over there for supper!

The fix-it people are supposed to start at Mom's house ... Mon, 6 Jan 2020 09:21:26 EST Sunday - Whipped Cream Day Mom gave me a calendar (a freebie from some organization) that lists several "days" each day. Today is Bird Day, Screenwriters Day, and Whipped Cream Day. I vote for the last one!

Had planned to go shopping for Mom and me this morning, and then over to her house, but decided to stay home instead. It's snowing pretty hard (at least for around here) and I really don't want to go out in it. And neither of us needs anything, anyway. So I'm staying home. I checked in with Mom and she's ... Sun, 5 Jan 2020 11:11:05 EST Saturday Friends coming over to play cards this afternoon, so I'll spend the morning getting ready. The woman who started the group eats low carb (most do not) and always drinks diet Pepsi (nothing else). She always takes her own drink when she plays cards at other people's homes, so she decided that the hostess would not serve anything at all. There's no food and everyone brings their own beverage. Works really well. She does have ice cubes, but that's it. Speaking of which, I should probably make a ... Sat, 4 Jan 2020 09:43:32 EST Friday OA phone meeting this morning, then a Russell Walk followed by a shower. Housework. Maybe buy, or at least look into, a new recliner. Maybe go to Mom's house. She seems to be getting needier about having me around, or maybe just having someone to talk to talk to and play games with. Fri, 3 Jan 2020 08:59:21 EST Thursday Not much going on today. Will eat on plan and do some housework (having folks over to play cards on Saturday), maybe look for a new recliner and/or a new, smaller computer to take with me to classes, probably go over to Mom's and play games. That's about it. Thu, 2 Jan 2020 09:31:32 EST January's Monthly Challenges - Get Back on Track! We're doing something a bit different this month. We're adding a "Calendar Challenge" to our monthly challenge. What's a Calendar Challenge, you ask? Well, the idea actually came from an Advent Calendar. We've picked a different thing you can do each day, one thing for each day of the month. Simple things. Easy (mostly!) things. Things that don't take much time; few of them take more than about 5 minutes. Or, if you can't - or won't! - do that day's activities, there are a couple of alternati... Wed, 1 Jan 2020 11:18:14 EST Wednesday - Happy New Year! 409 408 283

Only slept 30 minutes later than normal this morning, but didn't stay up to ring in the new year. Might still be a nap day though, depending on how long the kids stay after brunch. I did a Classical Stretch session from my DVD right away this morning. Should try to walk today too, but it's too icy outside which means a trip to the mall and not sure I'll get to that.

Enjoy your day! Any resolutions/goals/habits you're worki... Wed, 1 Jan 2020 10:16:30 EST FlyLady January Challenge: Day 31 Happy New Flying Year!
542
(This is the proverbial New Broom Sweeping Clean.)

Today is Wednesday: Anti-Procrastination Day

This week we are in 2 Zones:
Zone 5: The Living Room
Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room

December Habit: Pampering
January Habit: Shining Your Sink

Morning Routine:
Get Dressed to Shoes including Hair/Face, Brush Teeth
Make Bed
Swish &... Wed, 1 Jan 2020 10:00:45 EST Tuesday - and New Year's Eve! Which, in case you're wondering, is NOT an excuse (or at least not a reason) to binge and/or eat off plan! Get a head start on your new year's resolution to eat right by starting today!

No plans for today. Probably won't leave the house, other than to take Russell for a walk.

No plans for tonight, either. The neighbors who set off the most fireworks have moved, which should make Russell very happy. The past few years we've spent New Year's Eve at Mom's house, in the roo... Tue, 31 Dec 2019 09:36:09 EST Gained weight The day I met the requirements for more fat/protein and fewer carbs, I gained 4 lbs. the next morning. What gives? And how do I explain to my husband to not keep feeding me strictly vegetables and other forms of carbs? He has it in his head that it's healthy. Mon, 30 Dec 2019 22:46:47 EST Interesting Discovery! I have been playing with food trackers because I don't like how Fitbit and SP interact, and I went back to the Atkins website because I am going full keto/induction 1/1/2020. I discovered that it is now "powered by Sparkpeople", meaning the interface is the same but simplified and highlights the net carbs right there for you in bold graphics! Also what plan your on and the macros they calculate for you. I am still playing with it, but I think this is going to be my solution. Just wanted t... Mon, 30 Dec 2019 20:22:52 EST Monday What a difference one day of eating on plan makes! I feel so much better physically, emotionally and mentally.

We meet with the guy from the fix-it people this morning, about the repairs for Mom's plumbing disaster. My brothers and I have spent quite a bit of time with their scopes (estimates/bids/whatever) and we think we understand them now. What makes me happiest about them is that we have figured out that they were not trying to double charge us for things. Instead, they were ... Mon, 30 Dec 2019 10:08:11 EST Sunday My holiday eating is over!

Not much planned for today. I have to go over and fill Mom's pill boxes, and I want to go over the repairs the fix-it people have planned for the damage from Mom's broken toilet tank. My brothers and I have gone over the "scopes" (estimates/bids/whatever) with a pretty fine tooth comb and have several questions to ask the fix-it guy when he comes tomorrow to go over the scopes with Mom (and me!). I did a spreadsheet of the scopes so we could see how they... Sun, 29 Dec 2019 09:45:25 EST Saturday 524 Sat, 28 Dec 2019 09:35:41 EST January Food Budget Challenge Come join us as we plan, monitor and report on our food spending. As with other challenges, you decide on what you want your budget to be and when you will report. We are here to support one another in whatever our personal goals may be! Sat, 28 Dec 2019 09:15:19 EST Friday Did everyone fall into a carb coma or what?

Quiet day at work which has never happened at the end of the year. I got outside for a walk today and it was sunny and beautiful, maybe about 40. Tomorrow we're expecting rain, freezing rain, then turning to snow tomorrow night. I'm about to head out for groceries so I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow unless I really want to. Fri, 27 Dec 2019 18:56:27 EST How to Decide Which Diet to Use? I thought I'd be able to find a comparison thread, but I can't find it. I'm trying to decide if I should focus on keto, Atkins, or paleo. I'm leaning toward Atkins, but then the question is whether or not to do modified Atkins, Atkins 20, or the original Atkins. Are there others that are better suited to me that I haven't mentioned yet? What are the pros and cons from your personal experience? Thu, 26 Dec 2019 17:30:28 EST Pescatarian with Soy Allergy Hi, all. I started on the vegetarian diet in 2018. Since then I'd gained 30 lbs. and my husband lost 30 lbs even though we eat the same foods. I believe it's because my protein intake went down and my carb intake went up. I also learned recently that I have a very minor gluten allergy. Since then, I've decided to open myself up to fish, and I will eat eggs and dairy products. My husband buys the groceries and does all the cooking, so I need a way to easily encourage him to fix healthier meals... Thu, 26 Dec 2019 14:24:45 EST Happy Boxing Day! Though Debb may be the only one familiar with that. It's the day after Christmas, when servants were traditionally given their Christmas presents. These days, it's more likely to be the day folks brave the stores for the after Christmas sales!

Had a good Christmas yesterday, though I got seriously into the carbage. Ugh. Better today. Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:03:43 EST Let's be Joyful! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, Joyful Wednesday to everyone!

Slept really late cause we were up really late, even though everyone left earlier than usual.

Things were going well last night until I went upstairs to get changed, and while I was gone (maybe three minutes?) my sis and her family blew through the door bringing total chaos, lol!

We have a small kitchen with limited flat surfaces, and every inch is critical when you're trying to get 12 diffe... Wed, 25 Dec 2019 15:18:26 EST Merry Christmas Guess everybody is having too much fun and family to Spark. Wed, 25 Dec 2019 15:14:18 EST Tuesday - Christmas Eve Yup, I'm up early. Maybe 'up' is overstating it. I couldn't sleep and I'm having my first cup of coffee in the living room and the semi-dark.

I'll go tackle some client work when I feel ready and the head for the PT job earlier than usual. After that, I'm off to the hospital to hang out with my mom.

I hope the rest of you are still sleeping - if you're close to my time zone! Tue, 24 Dec 2019 07:55:07 EST Monday - Christmas Eve eve I need to finish wrapping and see if I've missed anything. Mon, 23 Dec 2019 11:25:34 EST Sunday The last one before Christmas! And the first full day of winter, too.

I'm glad they finally figured out what was going on with your mom, Leslie, even if there's not much they can do about it. Sun, 22 Dec 2019 15:20:01 EST Saturday Need to get to the library today. Possibly to a store, but from what I hear, today is NOT the day to be shopping! Lots of stuff to do around the house. Sat, 21 Dec 2019 11:10:29 EST Friday Today I absolutely positively HAVE TO get the house cleaned up! Still don't know when DB and family are coming (or how many of them) or how long they're staying. But I do know when the rest of them are coming and it's much too soon! So today I'm working on the house. Fri, 20 Dec 2019 12:40:09 EST Thursday It’s been a long time since I started a week day thread. I’m feeling better today, nausea is gone and I just had some bone broth. I could probably go to work, but emailed my boss last night and told her I wouldn’t be in. I hardly ever take sick days. Since I’m feeling well, I’ll check some tasks off my list – one of which is researching a new vacuum cleaner. Also laundry and a little cleaning. And probably a nap and a movie. I’m still tired. Maybe take Feisty Pants for a short walk later, I t... Thu, 19 Dec 2019 09:52:53 EST Wednesday And one week from Christmas! I am so not in the holiday spirit.

Appointment with my doctor this morning to see how I'm doing on a change of meds. And an appointment with my therapist this afternoon. The doctor is near Mom's house, so I'll go over there afterwards and put up the tree for her, and get some more stuff out of the attic. We planned all the suppers for while everyone is here, and made up shopping lists. I usually do the shopping Sunday morning, but I may wait until Mond... Wed, 18 Dec 2019 10:04:25 EST Tuesday Went by to give blood yesterday and discovered I'd left my purse at home! So couldn't give blood (no ID) and couldn't run errands (no money and no DL). Made an appointment for today, instead. Will run errands, then go to Mom's house (which is just a short walk from where the blood drive is), give blood, then run more errands. Need to get stuff done at Mom's house, like putting up the tree and finalizing menus and coming up with shopping lists for the two of us.

Got an A in my scie... Tue, 17 Dec 2019 10:32:04 EST Monday DB (one of them, anyway) arrives one week from today. Another arrives one week from tomorrow. No idea when (or if!) other DB arrives.

Lots of little stuff to do today. Important little stuff, but little. Most important is to talk to the folks who dried out Mom's house. I received an invoice for drying it out - and it says it's due on receipt, with a 2.5% PER MONTH finance charge if not paid within 30 days! As I understand it, nothing having to do with insurance is settled within 3... Mon, 16 Dec 2019 10:07:04 EST Sunday 524 Sun, 15 Dec 2019 09:28:07 EST Saturday And an absolutely beautiful day! It snowed overnight - great big fluffy flakes that stuck on the trees and bushes. Not very much, maybe a couple of inches, but enough to turn the world into a winter wonderland. And I don't have to go out in it!

My handyman is coming over sometime today to replace the ballast in the florescent light in the kitchen. I may or may not be playing cards this afternoon; depends on when Terry comes and how the streets look. I need to clean house, so won't... Sat, 14 Dec 2019 10:57:39 EST Friday!!! Ready, set, GOOOooooo!!! Fri, 13 Dec 2019 11:54:55 EST Thursday I think I have that right today!

Off to Mom's to check on her (I call every night but try to go over three or four times a week) and play games - but mostly to do some planning for Christmas. Five of us for sure for a week. May be as many as 10 for anywhere from two days to a week. Hard to plan. Then errands.

I haven't done any Christmas shopping. We do Dirty Santa instead of exchanging gifts. We each buy three gifts, total value somewhere around $30, then go around the ... Thu, 12 Dec 2019 09:34:26 EST Wednesday? ??!!@@!!!! Get er going!!! Wed, 11 Dec 2019 12:32:25 EST Tuesday Math test yesterday went well. Science test this morning. Appointment to set up my ObamaCare this afternoon. May do some shopping after that appointment.

That's about it for today. Wed, 11 Dec 2019 09:34:18 EST Tuesday night Whoa. Was there really no thread started today?!?!

My day was spent slogging along with my kitchen project, but at least I can say that I have really made a lot of progress, finally. Mostly just have touch up and do a couple of second coats and then I'm calling it done for the season.

Tomorrow I'll pull out all the Christmas storage boxes and finish the decorating.
445 446 460 442 445 460 ... Tue, 10 Dec 2019 22:09:14 EST Monday 524 Mon, 9 Dec 2019 10:07:55 EST Sunday Had a very lazy alone day yesterday. Today I'll do the grocery shopping (hardly anything for me, and not very much for Mom, who ate at my house most of the past week) then go over to Mom's house for a bit. And study!

That's about it for today.

All is well here. Hope the same is true for you. Sun, 8 Dec 2019 09:28:41 EST December Food Budget Challenge Let's keep track, even with the holiday. I'm going to shoot for $400 this month, and count the Christmas feast food.

Sadly, we still don't have a fridge at work, so I'm taking breakfast and lunch as fast food. Sat, 7 Dec 2019 13:00:40 EST Saturday! Ready--Set t--GO!!~~~ Last night's Lincoln-Tallman House for Christmas Tour was AWESOME!!

Today, Tour of the Governor's Mansion and then an early dinner at a Historic Restaurant in a tiny tiny town here in WI!!!

I put No sugar, lemon meringue cookies in my convection oven this morning. I want to take them to my 2nd son's girls tomorrow. Fingers crossed they turn out. The oven is to stay closed for the hour of baking and an hour afterwards. No problem. I'll be gone.

Hugs to... Sat, 7 Dec 2019 10:23:18 EST Friday I miss having my house to myself, too, Woubbie! Mom goes back home today, and we're both ready. It's strange how much harder it is to have people in my house than for me to be in theirs. At least it's harder for me that way.

Over to Mom's house first thing this morning so Tim can get all the equipment out and put down some scrap carpet in the upstairs bathroom and tape down all the loose carpet edges. And that's all that will be done for now. It should make the whole house usable a... Fri, 6 Dec 2019 09:49:37 EST Thursday! Start!!! Debb's birthday!!! Singing for YOU!!! 176 345 Thu, 5 Dec 2019 13:45:03 EST Wednesday I think today will be a rather crazy day. Though in a nice way - not like Monday!

Mom, who can't pass the bathroom without stopping, was unable to give a urine sample yesterday. She's supposed to give a sample today and I'll take it over to the lab on my way to my appointment with my math teacher at 9:15. I'm lost in math, after missing Monday's class due to unforeseen circumstances. Then I have class from 1 to 4 and am supposed to meet with the water mitigation guy, Tim, at 4:30. ... Wed, 4 Dec 2019 09:57:03 EST Tuesday Well, the day got off to a better start than yesterday did! No phone call at 6 am, and Mom is up and moving about. Did have to clean up two messes on the kitchen floor (Russell still seems to be having tummy troubles, but there was a bunch of grass in what I cleaned up today, so maybe he's taken care of the problem), but they were on the linoleum instead of the carpet. Not too bad.

Mom sees the doctor this morning, DB is coming down (we hope!) to take us out to lunch, I have math ... Tue, 3 Dec 2019 10:31:55 EST Monday Well, my day is already starting out better. I called the mall as soon as they opened and yes, they do have my card. Guess I'm taking another trip to the North Hills. Luckily, that is one of Pittsburgh's major shopping zones, so I can knock off all my shopping tasks in (hopefully) just one more trip.

There's a Half Price Books nearby, so I will shop for my Christmas cards there. I'll also go back to the ALDI and hopefully pick up the cat food and the ribeyes that they were out of l...
