I am a mother and grandmother, a survivor of multiple disabilities and a life long learner. I look forward to this challenge opening paths to explore that will expand my life experiences as well as expand my friendships.

I believe in momentum. I believe in moderation. Sun, 9 Oct 2016 00:32:35 EST Week One in the Books I missed a couple days of tracking due to the hectic schedule. We all have these though and I know I'll have to prep and plan the week to be successful. In the process of moving so getting internet at the house instead of just relying on my phone will make it easier as well. I appreciate the mobile app, but feel more driven using the web.

Is there a whole challenge schedule somewhere so I can plan the week ahead of time? Sun, 1 May 2016 12:59:39 EST Doing the 5k walk jog As soon as I finish the training for the walk jog challenge I am going to be doing a 5k in April I hope to do the color me rad here in Newport News Virginia. Sat, 27 Feb 2016 18:11:42 EST Virtual Race I doubt we will have many 5k races after the Turkey Trot. I decided to use this as a motivational tool. I read about a virtual race on a different website, and decided to set one up on Going the Distance, which is the team I am a captain of. I hope some of our 5k team members stop by and join our team for our cross country virtual race. We are starting the race January 1st. Sun, 1 Nov 2015 18:51:52 EST Hip pain I have not been following the plan exact..but am up to almost 2.5 miles non stop..but just started going past 2miles and my outer hips are achy. Is this normal? Thu, 24 Sep 2015 19:20:57 EST Podcasts or Audio? I don't like having to hold my phone or a watch to track the intervals. Does anyone know of a free or low-cost podcast/audio recording/etc. that covers the 3:1.5 min intervals for week two? Or a program that would allow me to create one? Podrunner had one that handled the 4:1 if you reset it to add the additional 2 intervals. It'd sure make the adventure more pleasant for me if I could just plug in and do it. Thanks. Mon, 31 Aug 2015 20:54:56 EST Hey Y'all! My name is Nichole and I'm joining for my second time. My goal is to get fit enough to jog through the many 5ks in my area! Sun, 30 Aug 2015 11:49:53 EST Knowing when to level up? Hi, I've started running with a very flexible schedule. Because I am in such poor shape, i didn't want to commit myself to moving on to the next level every week. Rather, I am taking time to really manage a level well, before moving on.
How do I know when I'm ready to try the next level? Today, it was certainly still challenging, but after 6 intervals, I felt like I could continue doing my 1:30/3:00 run/walk intervals indefinitely!
It'd be nice to know how to really optimise my r... Sun, 15 Mar 2015 21:23:38 EST Starting this week I've decided to see if I can do more now than I could in college - in terms of running. Hoping this will also help drop a few pounds and inspire my kids to be healthy. Been walking since January and time to make some increases. I've never been a runner - so who know how this will go! Wed, 11 Mar 2015 20:51:28 EST restarting Hi all been around sparkpeople for a while now . 2 years ago I ran my first half marathon . Then march of 2014 fell at work on ice and messed up my shoulder . Mon, 9 Mar 2015 10:59:27 EST Hello First time here. Just realized this winter how out-of-shape I've gotten and now I feel so VERY motivated to get back in shape. My plan is to start off slow and then taper off a bit (smile). Cheers, everyone. Tue, 3 Mar 2015 10:33:00 EST When weather strikes So, I'm in week 2, and loving it. But, we are supposed to get a ton of snow this week, and I'm trying to figure out what everyone does when it is too icy to go out. I don't have a gym membership or anything. Do I just run in place? Try to run outside anyway? I ran today, and I think it said it was 1 degree. I'm not worried about the cold, just about being clumsy and slipping on ice. I've got a recumbent bike, but after riding that for 2 months and starting to run, I know that the bike doesn't... Sun, 15 Feb 2015 13:45:18 EST Why did I decide to date a triathlete? Seriously. I am not a runner, I can't stand cycling, and heart condition took me out of the pool. But at least once a month, I'm accompanying my beloved to one of his races. I outweigh him by about 40lbs, and it's driving me nuts. So, I thought out of the three sports, I should at least be able to start running again. So here I am, hoping to join all of you in your quest to run a 5K.

I look forward to interacting with everyone, and supporting you in achieving your goals! Tue, 10 Feb 2015 08:57:47 EST re-joining the team Today is the first day of the rest of my life and i would like to rejoin the spark team. i need some pointers as to what you guys are doing and how i should get started. i am a member of a gym and i'm ready to change my life totally. all the help you guys give me would be most helpful! i need to be on a slow team. by saying slow i mean one that loses first slow! don't know why, but i eat right 90% of the time and i generally exercise 3 to 4 times per week, for 45 mins to an hour. but i'm not ... Mon, 12 Jan 2015 16:39:44 EST when to start ?? ok so i have lost 30 pounds and have started to do the run/jog thing and thought yep I am going to join the 5K your way team. Here is my question...
I leave for Haiti next week for 9 days. No GPS to track, no place to actually run...heck no hot water should i start the 'offical' start date when i get back and keep doing my walk jog? I dont really want to skip a week. guess i answered my question.
looking forward to feedback. thanks everyone

Steph Tue, 4 Nov 2014 17:22:34 EST Need a timer app for iphone My iPhone's timer only can set an alarm for minutes and hours, not seconds. Anyone know of an app that I can use to set an interval for say 90 seconds or 2.5 minutes or 3.5 minutes with an alarm that goes off? Free preferably. We are doing the walk/jog training program and it would really help to have a timer for the intervals.

I use the RunKeeper app for the overall time and distance tracking since the GPS portion of the Sparkpeople app stopped working with the latest upgrade. How... Sat, 1 Nov 2014 13:14:59 EST Starting week 2 A little apprehensive about running 1 1/2 and losing an extra walking minute. I'm going to give it my college try though. Sat, 25 Oct 2014 05:44:51 EST Hello - New Here Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to SparkPeople and especially the 5K training. I have completed many 5K's but only by walking...I want to work up to running, or walk/run. Two years ago I had a pacemaker put in. My heart muscle is healthy, just not beating in sinc (A-Fib). Cardiologist has given me the OK...if I feel up to it, and I do want to try. So, I'll be following your training tips and hope for the best. I have signed up for the Holiday 5K in Dec., and hoping to improve my time. ... Mon, 20 Oct 2014 12:07:16 EST Week3 I am almost done with week 3, yes we can do it. Sat, 13 Sep 2014 18:14:10 EST Sunday This morning I went out for my walk/jog and it was great, at first I didn't this I was going to be able to do the jog, but ever since I started this program I have push a little at a time to jog. Today I walked and then I jogged, wow was I surprised what a great feeling. And there was no pain in my lower back or hip when I got home :-) 521 Sun, 7 Sep 2014 12:57:44 EST Sparktracker vs. walk/jog 5k tracker I am using a sparktracker so am not sure how to go about tracking my walk/jog, since when I track it on the site for the 5k training, it is tracked 2x (and not even the same calories, etc). Do I just rely on the sparktracker? If so, how do I track on the 5k trainer then? Thanks!!
Sat, 9 Aug 2014 14:49:33 EST Am finally ready I have sign up for a 5k in November. I usually walk and even then am one of the last. We just found out my youngest grand child has type one diabetes so as a family we're walking for a cure. Do not want my grand kids to show me up. Mon, 20 Jan 2014 09:18:09 EST Week1 / Day 3 done! Day 3 was a little harder than the first two but I did it! Was supposed to go 5 times and finished strong going 7 times. I think I'm ready for week 2. Looks like my first 5K run will be April 19. I'm a little nervous as I have never done anything like this. Legs are sore and little stiff today. Fri, 17 Jan 2014 16:02:03 EST Day 2 done! Day 2 done this morning. Legs were sore yesterday from Day 1 but today they feel fine. Seems like I can handle the 1 min jog pretty good. Just out of curiosity I tried to jog more than a minute. Went a whopping 1.5 mins and was gasping for breath. Looks like I've got a ways to go. :) Looking for to Day 3. Wed, 15 Jan 2014 16:12:22 EST Week 1 so far Just did Day 1 of Week 1 and found that I'm not as in bad of shape as I thought. Handled the 1 min jog pretty good. Tue, 12 Nov 2013 01:08:34 EST Hey! :) Hi, my name is Samantha and I am 21 and a dog groomer. A few weeks ago I joined the group and ended up not starting the plan when I joined, but yesterday since I have decided to start going back to the gym, I decided to start week 1 yesterday. :) One of my current goals is to do a 5k by December 1st. Sat, 12 Jan 2013 16:39:57 EST Elliptical for cross-training? I'm used to doing about 15-20 minutes on the Elliptical as a warm-up before stretching and strength training. Do you think it's okay to do that on rest/cross-training days? I'm unsure since it uses a lot of the same muscle groups. Mon, 7 Jan 2013 20:42:33 EST Just started today Hello, just joined this today....I'm posting because I need to read other peoples stories for motivation :-) Mon, 31 Dec 2012 18:20:47 EST I am ready to be a sparkie:) Merry Christmas all. Name is Narra, 22 year old college student trying to lose 50 pounds who LOVES to run!

I'm really no newbie to the running scene, been running my whole life (never for school or competitively though, always for fun and stress relief). I joined this group because I want to be apart of a running group with active members and all the others seemed a little low, lol.

My current training regime is a two mile walk on M/W/F, 5k run on T/Th, and a 10k on Saturdays. Sun... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 16:09:27 EST I think I'm around here... I've been in the program now for... a while, let's just say, and I got so off track with the weekly/daily routines that I don't know just where I'd be. The last time I ran intervals--and it's been a while, too, because I've got an upper respiratory infection--I ran a quarter mile, walked a quarter mile, ran a quarter mile... and so on, totalling 2 miles. (It's easier for me to go by distance than by time, because I've got my hands full with my girls' stroller and little control over my stop... Wed, 19 Dec 2012 17:21:14 EST W5D2 I skipped W5D1 and jumped right into W5D2 last night and boy, it was a reality check. I barely finished without cutting my running segments short, but I managed to complete the program as specified (2 min walk, 3 min run intervals). It really kicked my butt though. I was struggling to run after the 3rd run and had to slow down my speed to a crawl. I noticed my breathing was ragged and I was very worn out by the end of this workout. Thanks for helping me keep my motivation to continue!

244 Thu, 25 Oct 2012 13:41:46 EST Hello Hi everyone. I found the Spark website about 18 months ago. It has been a wonderful addition to my diet/ exercise program. Now I think I'm ready to start the walk/run program. I walk approximately 4 miles 2-3 times a week but want to try running. I'm not too sure I can maintain the motivation - so I do appreciate any encouragement and advice! I've read many of the postings regarding proper form and footwear. Today I begin! 249 Mon, 22 Oct 2012 07:16:18 EST what if I miss 2 training days? I am suppose to be starting week 3, I set my preference back to week 2 because the last time I did my walk/jog was on the 9th. I didn't feel my shoes were supportive enough to be jogging in so I haven't done much exercising besides my yoga dvd since it is barefoot.

I went and bought some new shoes, but where do I pick up and start? I still need to complete 2 of the walk/jog days in week 2. I don't need to completely start over with week 1, do I? It may just take a little longer than I had planned. 311 Fri, 12 Oct 2012 19:26:23 EST Pushing on I started week 4 training today and with the weather getting cold, It's getting harder to push myself to exercise, Only thing keeping me going is the fact that I do really want to run this virtual race and not quit so n ear the end of the training. So far I can at least train for 33 minutes, have not yet run the full 3.1 miles but hoping to get there. I need more motivation. Tue, 9 Oct 2012 17:38:32 EST Low back pain on the run I just started day 1 today (woo!). I used a treadmill at the gym, and I found that on the running segments my low back twinged.

I tend to have low back pain anyway, so it doesn't surprise me that I'm feeling it there, but should I be modifying my form in some way to help? Tue, 25 Sep 2012 14:27:42 EST KNEE PAIN???? Today I'm schedule to do day 1 of week 2, but I'm having knee pain. Last week I had pain in my left knee and this week it's in my right knee. What do I do? Do I stop training? Do I stretch it out? I don't want to injury myself I've never been jogger nor runner so I'm new to this. Tue, 25 Sep 2012 08:12:47 EST Week 5 home stretch!!! Completed week 5 day 1 today. It was good, challenging but not impossible. Next one will be the test I think see if the 2 min instead of three walk rest will be enough. Judging from today I think it will. Tue, 25 Sep 2012 01:29:40 EST Rats! Ah, rats. My feet are sore. I was doing so well! I was actually enjoying my time on the treadmill! I have been making progress and am feeling stronger. But my old body may be protesting the pounding. Maybe the combination of age (52) plus excess weight (38lbs) is gonna limit what I can do right now. Guess I'll take a few days off and see if I can get back to it later in the week. Maybe I need new shoes. Any ideas? Mon, 24 Sep 2012 07:48:58 EST Help! Wrong start date on training! I started my training tonight (9/23) & after I logged it in, I realized that it posted with tomorrow's date (9/24)! How do I switch it so it has today's date as the first day of training and not tomorrows date? Thanks! Mon, 24 Sep 2012 00:54:01 EST How fast do you need to be to sign up for a 5K I've started to jog/walk a 5k, and right now my time is at 42 minutes. But I'm not sure what an average time is for a 5k... I know that I'm only supposed to be beating myself but I also know that if I'm among one of the last stragglers to finish I will feel bad and discouraged, so if that's where I'm going to be I'm just going to keep trying to improve my time til I get to the median. Does anyone have any ideas? Sun, 23 Sep 2012 07:39:08 EST Just starting out Hi peeps!! I'm not much for running, but I am completely devoted to losing weight. I have a nice treadmill at home, which is where I prefer to exercise. So this fits in nicely. I found out about the c25k program through SP and am very happy that I did. So, here I go and best of luck to everyone! Fri, 21 Sep 2012 10:58:43 EST Hello My name is Susan and I'm approaching my 59th birthday ... started jogging for the first time 29 years ago ... over the years on again, off again with fitting it in ... always looking for something to inspire me ... I think this will do it!!! Thanks for the help :-) Thu, 20 Sep 2012 14:21:04 EST Should I do 7 times Hi, my name is Amanda
I was wondering if anyone has done the cycles 7 or more tiems. What I mean is for week 2 your suppose to walk 3 mins and than jog 1.5 mins. I have done that 6 times kind of wondering if I should do it for 7 times or should I jog for 2mins. What are your thoughts? Tue, 18 Sep 2012 12:00:40 EST Week 4 started Yikes. Was not quite prepared for this one and was challenged!!! Seems like a bug leap from 3 to 2 minutes walk rest. I can run the 2.5 minutes but wanted more rest in between. I did finish and this is about increasing so I have to assume it'll be a struggle sometimes. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 11:48:04 EST How to avoid the runners when you walk a 5K? I have done a few 5Ks and I know that you follow traffic rules - move over to the right if you are going slower.
Well, I do this one race with my office every year and this year I didn't finish it. It actually makes me sad that I didn't finish. However, I was hit, I was bumped and I was nearly knocked down!
The runners start before the walkers, so why are these people running around me like I am part of an obstacle course?
It got so bad this year that someone knocked my arm... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 13:19:56 EST W1D2 harder than W1D1 Has anyone else experienced W1D2 being harder than W1D1?
So far my week has consisted of a 2 mile walk on Saturday, W1D1 on Sunday, 1 mile walk on Monday, and W1D2 on Tuesday.
I'm wondering if today's struggles are because I haven't given myself a "rest" day yet. Any suggestions? Tue, 11 Sep 2012 10:11:07 EST hi! i just started this program! hi everyone. i am currently attending college. i hope to loose the weight i gained in the past few years. Mon, 10 Sep 2012 19:40:08 EST WEEK 3 started WOW, I have surprised myself!!!I did W3D1 and ater dreading it all weekend and thinking I would not be able to run the full 2 min. I did...and did it quite well, once again improving my distance/time. I did W2D3 on an empty stomach and REALLY struggled....I had oatmeal this am and 1/2 hour later did the workout and felt great...was tired and it was a bit challenging but I am optimistic now for the rest of the program!!! Mon, 10 Sep 2012 12:40:49 EST Starting up, again. Hi All. I've been starting and stopping for as long as I can rembember. I'm changing things up a bit now, and starting with small goals. This week have a seven day challenge with my Hubby. We are planning to do at least 10 minutes of fitness for 7 days. We'll likely do more, but that is the challenge for now...I can't make an excuse for not working out for 10 minutes. I've started running again, but I run and then walk. Taking the stress out of it by running until I feel like I want to... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 13:43:31 EST Hi Team! I never thought in a million years I would say such a thing...I love working out! Good luck to you all and...GO TEAM!!! Sun, 9 Sep 2012 11:32:30 EST Maybe I can call myself a runner one day... Hello everybody, my name is Debbie. I am new to SparkPeople and kind of "stumbled" on this program. I have a lot of weight to lose and am in a walking program right now, but am trying to incorporate a short "jog" every now and then. I am participating in a 5k this month and will probably walk the whole thing, but am participating in another one in October and have a goal of walking/jogging it. This program seemed perfect to help me meet my goal. Who knows? - maybe I'll be able to call myself... Thu, 6 Sep 2012 16:45:05 EST need help finding new running shoes i'm just starting out. i know nothing about running. I always wanted to be able to run for more than a bus. So I'm trying. But I have got a bit of a problem. The shoes that I have make the tendon in the bottom of my foot hurt. My knees hurt a bit too. I have no idea why. It makes things difficult when you're trying to be active. Can any body tell me why and what kind of shoes should I look for. I'm a big girl so I don't know if there are certain types of shoes that are better for big people.... I ran right after dinner which I think was a mistake. Mon, 3 Sep 2012 20:59:19 EST W1 D1 - Surprised myself! I lost 45 pounds two years ago, but have since lost my "mojo" with life intervening. I've put on 10 more and more importantly, have no motivation or passion for staying healthy and fit. I joined Spark People 2 years ago, but never fully used it. I've made the commitment and now am a daily tracker. I am looking for friends and supporters who are motivating and supportive. Wed, 29 Aug 2012 13:55:28 EST Started week one yesterday So I started after hesitating for three days. Why the hesitation who knows. But I feel good and forgot how great my body feels after running. I completed a c25k two years ago and then fizzled the whe healthy routine so I am back to square one again. I have been eating well for couple of weeks now and am ready to incorporate the exercise. Today was my Day 1, Week 1 and I will admit - running for one minute straight was difficult!! I've just never been a runner - even when I was athletic in HS. I know it's short notice but I am offering to sell these tickets. I cannot go and looking to hopefully sale them. They were $76 each with tax and everything but I am willing to haggle reasonably. Thanks! Mon, 30 Jul 2012 12:45:32 EST 5K completed! Ran my first 5K this past weekend and I'm one 5K closer to my ultimate goal. I was really glad that I stuck with the couch to 5K plan, it helped me finish in 38:25 under my goal of 40min. I had to power walk up half the 2nd slope, it was a killer! But I did it! I'm gonna try to go nonstop for another 5K in 4 weeks. Mon, 30 Jul 2012 10:30:51 EST did a 3.1 run on the treadmill today... I'm still out of town due to my dad's death.

I'm staying with my mom at her apt, and they have a workout room. Don't really have another place to run right now.

I'll be home next week, and I plan to run my 5 k some time in the middle of the week, Sat, 28 Jul 2012 22:15:18 EST After workout snack What do you guys eat after your workout? I like to workout in the mornings after a small snack, but am always so hungry after my workouts. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but I'm trying to change that..I need suggestions on wholesome, healthy snacks or meal ideas. :) Sat, 28 Jul 2012 12:03:46 EST Week 5, day 1 After a 5-day rest -- who am I kidding? I just didn't do anything those days :( -- I got back on the treadmill yesterday and did week 5, day 1. However, I realized just as I was starting that I forgot to look at the plan to see what I supposed to do. Oh, boy.

So I did my own combination. I got through 4 sets of walk 2 min, jog 3 min before needing to slow down the jogging speed on the fifth set. I did some 5.0 and even a 6.0 mph for 30 and 60 sec at the end, and was dripping by the... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 09:23:14 EST 45 lbs to lose & looking for some help I have always looked around in these message boards but never posted. I am at a point that I need some help. Something different. I have been up & down in my wt &now I am wanting to lose for good & not be back in this place again. I just want a little support that I don't otherwise get & a way to stay accountable. Thu, 26 Jul 2012 10:48:05 EST Running Shoe Suggestions? Does anyone know of a web site where I can find a good shoe store in my area to find running shoes? I just started this program and I'm having some tingling in my feet when I run. My shoes are old and I'm thinking they are not great running shoes :/ I would like to get fitted but I don't want to trust the 17 year old at foot locker with something this important. Any advice would be appreciated :) Wed, 25 Jul 2012 09:59:47 EST Hope it works! Hi everyone! Just joined the 5K walk/run group. Can't wait to try it.
Does anyone have suggestions for cross training days?
Thanks!
Marion

213 Tue, 24 Jul 2012 15:55:21 EST Week 1 Well, 2 weeks managed to disappear first, but I started Week 1 today.
I did a short warm up walk, 5 sets of 4min walk and 1min run and a cool down walk followed by some stretching.
I like this! I did couch to 5k a while back (before an injury (unrelated) left me on the couch for over a year) and found it just right. But NOW, it's just too much for me. I don't have the same base level fitness. But the 4min walk cycles are great! They give me time to relax and really focus on my run.... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 12:32:32 EST Week 4, day 3 -- check! I finally finished week 4 with day 3 today. Ugh. I really didn't think I was going to make it through, but I did.

Part of the problem I think was me not doing much of anything on Thursday and Friday, and then doing the longer session today. I was not ready for it. I'm still doing this on the treadmill because of the heat, but I'd like to get brave enough to go outside sometime.

I honestly am not looking forward to week 5. Period. Well, maybe just a little. Sat, 21 Jul 2012 13:36:38 EST foot pain? So. . . I am finishing week 3, but the top of my foot (4th metatarsal area), which often aches a bit even with walking, is now hurting bad. I am afraid it may be a stress fracture. I am running on grass too! I am planning to rest it for a few days but I can't stop walking. Any advice? Thu, 19 Jul 2012 15:58:54 EST Total Newbie Hey All!
My name is Beckah and I just signed up for the 5k Your Way Walk/Jog Program because the last time I attempted to get myself running (on a treadmill) I actually tore my knee and it put me up for quite a while. Anywho, I figured this might be a good way to start back again! Wed, 18 Jul 2012 23:20:36 EST Week 4, day 2 coming up I'm going to do day 2 later today on the treadmill at home. So far, I'm been pretty much on time with my weeks (I did a 5K fitness walk last weekend, I didn't count it as a session, but counted it as some movement) except this week I'll do the third day just into the calendar week 5.

While I'm sure the treadmill is easier than outside in most respects, I am using it as a trainer of sorts for me to get used to doing these slightly longer jogging segments. I still am so hot and sweat... Wed, 18 Jul 2012 12:12:13 EST Long Run/ 5K training I've read all over the place that a runner should only do their race distance once a week at most during training. Well while doing Week 3 of the 5K Your Way training, I am walking/running that distance each training day. So I guess I am wondering if I am okay since in the whole scheme of things a 5K is relatively short or if I should scale back somehow?

363 Wed, 18 Jul 2012 01:54:57 EST intentional walking ensuring 4 laps around the track. approx 3/4 mi in 10 min. improving from last weeks 3 laps, jog 1/4 of the lap. Tue, 17 Jul 2012 15:39:07 EST Doing week 3 again I am doing this virtual 5K on a treadmill because I live in a sauna and have given myself permission to never go outside.

That said, I found myself hanging onto the arms to complete week 3. I've decided to repeat it and try for better form even if my time is slower.

Anyone else struggling and repeating the week?
198 Mon, 16 Jul 2012 10:32:17 EST Ready to start week 4 I did a 5K fitness walk as part of the Iowa Games this past Saturday, so counted it as a walk. Jogged less than a minute and am disappointed in that, but it's so darn hot outside! I've done all but the first session on a treadmill and while that's good for me, it's kind of not-so-good, too. Hopefully I can get back outside, especially now that I have directions for 2 5K routes to use. Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:38:23 EST think I'm on week 3, sort of confused.... but I ran 3.1 on the treadmill today. took me 34.50 minutes. I was so happy.

sadly not sure how all this will work for me now.

My dad passed away so I'm out of town but I'm at my mom's apt and they have a workout room here.
Mon, 16 Jul 2012 00:29:22 EST Sports Drinks - Yay or Nay? I completed week 3, day 3 of the training today. I've been noticing how thirsty I've been since I started training. I've been drinking between 9-13 glasses of water a day. Also, I have had a few days where I've really craved salt. I'm wondering if drinking Gatorade or Powerade would help with being so thirsty. Does anyone have any suggestions? Sun, 15 Jul 2012 14:23:19 EST goals started this week with walk/jog just 1/4 of the track-4 times around. walk/jogged 5k on wednesday. thurs & friday I walk/jogged 1/2 the track but only went 3 times around and walked .25 home to track/track back home. Fri, 13 Jul 2012 19:20:35 EST Need to change my race date I need to move my race date out a little bit - I'm falling behind in the training and I think that means I'm not ready yet.

How do I change that date? Wed, 11 Jul 2012 14:59:12 EST math challenged How can the 5k training week 4 last 27 minutes if you are walking 2, jogging 2.5 (4.5) times 5?
Doesn't that equal 22.5? What are we doing during the 4.5 minutes left over? Tue, 10 Jul 2012 09:53:44 EST training after this program? I am just wondering, is there any suitable training programs to do once i finish this program? Most 5 k programs start off at a little more advanced fitness level. I'm just afraid that i will quit after i finish this nice program and that's something I don't want to do! Sat, 7 Jul 2012 20:23:18 EST starting today! Hi all,
I'm starting this program today. I have started 5k plans many times - hope to make it through
Through this one. Does anyone know of any music programs for this plan?

Thanks
Gigi Sat, 7 Jul 2012 09:39:43 EST Hey Guys! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Amy, I joined Sparkpeople months ago, but never really tried after the first month or so. You know how it goes, "my life is too busy, I've got too much stress at work, home, kids, etc." That's always been my excuse. I put everyone else first and leave no time for me. I'm working to change that, slowly. I hope to fully utilize this community and the tools available to start taking care of me. For added motiviation, I've also signed up for my first ... Thu, 5 Jul 2012 07:41:09 EST Did my best on to the next test!!! Wed, 4 Jul 2012 21:39:56 EST Actually started today. Ok. I signed up last week with all the best intentions. Unfortunately I never followed through. Kicked myself in the butt this morning and decided today is the day! My 2 younger children decided to help me (son 14, daughter 9), and although they were running circles around me it definitely made the time go faster. Have to say though, I had to stop half way through, even just the walking was making me cough (guess I should have waited until my cold was gone). Didn't completely quit though. Did... Wed, 4 Jul 2012 14:24:46 EST First race! Just signed up for my first race. It's going to be on Sept 29th. I'm excited! Tue, 3 Jul 2012 08:57:40 EST Week of July 1st walk/run I'm doing the walk/jog training.

I do something every day exercise wise. Today is more my rest day but I usually take a short walk in the neighborhood.

I pulled/strained a leg muscle last week so I'm hoping that it will be better tomorrow so I can get back to the training. Sun, 1 Jul 2012 23:50:52 EST A New Beginning for Me I am a stay at home mom military wife. I consider it a huge blessing to be able to financially to stay at home with my 4 year old daughter. However, since I have been staying home with my daughter, I have gained more weight after the birth of my daughter than when I was pregnant. I realize that I need to loose my weight and have healthier habits so that I can be a role model for my daughter. I have come to terms that with this weight loss journey, I will encounter ups and downs and the learni... Sun, 1 Jul 2012 06:33:17 EST Week One done - Bring on week 2 Well - I finished week one while my daughter had her softball practice on Thursday night. My pace was a little slower than day 2 but the temp was a bit higher too. On day 2 I had a 13 minute mile average pace. Day 3 was 13.45 minute mile. All in all, it's been a great week - Bring on week 2! Sat, 30 Jun 2012 21:45:42 EST Intro. Hi, my name is Pam. I am ready to start this challenge today. Wish me luck:) Sat, 30 Jun 2012 08:52:49 EST I'm feeling that extra half a minute... Today I started my second week of training. I felt good until I started jogging. 1 1/2 minutes is a long time. Several times I felt my head fall as I suffered through it. I also had to repeatedly tell myself to relax because I have a tendency to tense up when I'm struggling. I finished without any lasting pain, but I do that my lack of stamina has caught up with me. I may do week 2 training a few more times until I feel strong enough for week 3. Fri, 29 Jun 2012 22:38:00 EST Finished Week 1 Strong I have't jogged this much in years. When I signed up for the virtual 5K and noticed the different training plans, I thought it was time to give jogging another shot. I'm glad I did. I really feel like I'm working my body.

I definitely feel the full minute of jogging everytime, but I can handle it. Fri, 29 Jun 2012 22:30:13 EST Cross Training This may be a dumb question, but is an exercise video okay for cross training? Fri, 29 Jun 2012 11:12:33 EST Week 1, Day 1 - I really did it! I'm rotten at starting things like this. I have lots of planning and thinking ability - and then I fizzle, not just before the finish line, but too often before I even get out of the starting blocks. But not this time. Today, I did it. Wasn't able to be positive about the distance covered due to the route, and we had gale force winds, but I made it through feeling satisfied and successful. I didn't even feel too tired. I'm actually looking forward to day 2. Go figure. Wed, 27 Jun 2012 13:34:29 EST Introduction I am doing this training because I want to get back in to running, in order to lower my blood pressure, lose weight, feel better, and keep me young! I am 59 years old. Wed, 27 Jun 2012 11:44:23 EST TKR Hi I'm Rosie,
This seems to be the way to go in getting ready for a 5k. I had a total knee replacement and now am loving not sitting around in pain.
I know the running will wear out the knee sooner so I am happy with the jog/walk race. I have been participating in 5ks at least once a week here in Maine but never really trained.

I am looking forward to this new age technology...jogging with thousands of people but not bumping into each other.
Good luck everyone. <B... Tue, 26 Jun 2012 04:36:37 EST Week 1 week of June 24th I'm new to this challege it should be fun.

I've done 2 other challenges this spring so this will get me through the summer.

I did the day one walk jog, I've been working out quite a bit so I ended up joging for 2 min and did it for 28 min and 2 miles. Mon, 25 Jun 2012 18:14:42 EST Week 1 Day 1 I completed Week 1 Day 1 yesterday - Wow! I've tried starting C25K about 4 times this spring and keep having to re-start it due to interruptions. I like this plan a bit better. I was able to complete the first day running faster than I do with the C25K on the run segments and still able to walk fast to complete the trail I was using. My daughter even commented on my pace. I feel great! Weather pending, I'll try day 2 tomorrow after work. Mon, 25 Jun 2012 16:59:51 EST A minute can be looonggg..... I've just finished Week 1 and I feel great. This third day was much easier, but I confess that the first two trainings were hard. I didn't know that a minute could actually feel like 10 legs are not used to jogging, so it was more related to the muscle reaction than the breathing. But here I am, happy to have completed the first week and ready for more. Let me say: stretching for 10 minutes with the right movements has HELPED A LOT. I do recommend! Mon, 25 Jun 2012 08:55:37 EST Week 1-done. Here I come Week 2! Week one felt great, really an energy boost. Sun, 24 Jun 2012 08:13:59 EST W1D1- done holy crap I did it! I never thought i would be in any sort of shape to run. I made it thru each of the 1 min runs and didn't keel over. I am so proud of myself! Now the next step is to get back out there on Monday for day 2 =) Sat, 23 Jun 2012 21:20:29 EST Message Removed Message Removed Thu, 21 Jun 2012 22:39:54 EST Question about timing I don't usually wear a watch. For several months, I've been using the clock on my pedometer for timing walks and just knowing the time in general. Because I'm new to this program/team and want to do things right from the beginning, I'd like to know how to keep track of time when I'm walking and jogging.
Should I get a cheap plastic watch with big numbers on it so I can quickly flip up my wrist and see? Would some type of stopwatch be better? I'm all ears (and eyes) and appreciate all sug... Thu, 21 Jun 2012 09:22:46 EST Big People can do this too!!!! Yesterday was the first day of my first week, I actually walked the 4 minutes and ran the one minute....At my weight and with all that flab, that is quite an accomplishment! 334
My daughters were really surprised to see Mom running, if even for a minute! I'm going to do the program every other day to make sure I don't get shin splints, that would totally suck!!

So to everyone out there if I can do this so can you!!!! 306 Tue, 19 Jun 2012 22:20:06 EST Hello My name is Lori Castillo; I joined SP three weeks ago. I am really looking forward to this preparation and setting this goal, for myself. I have been physically unfit the past 20 years until I discovered SP three weeks ago. I am more determined now then I have ever been. So determined, that I walk a mile and a half on my lunch hour! I look forward to learning and hearing from each of you :) Tue, 19 Jun 2012 17:06:46 EST Ready, Set, Go! Hello All, I just signed up for the 5K program. I am really looking forward to it! I have not jogged or ran in 20 years. I am a 36 year old and have no excuses but I am ready! My husband will be helping me through this endeavor. I have been walking on the Treadmill every day on my lunch hour the past four weeks. I have increased my walking to 2.5 miles in 30 minutes!!! Tue, 19 Jun 2012 15:31:13 EST Week 3 Day 1 I finished my W3/D1 this morning and I have to say it was difficult for me. The running wasn't so much the difficult part, simply that I felt like I had no energy and I didn't sleep well at all last night. I got through it, though I will admit I skipped out on the last interval because I felt so weak. I will continue to push through this week though. Hopefully Wednesday will go a lot better than today. :) Mon, 18 Jun 2012 17:46:44 EST treadmill vs. outdoor run/walk I just completed my first 5k last month and am training for another one next month. So far I have done all my training outdoors, but it's getting pretty hot out and I am joining a gym this week. My question is, can I train for an outdoor 5k on a treadmill? In past experience, it seems a little easier for me to run on a treadmill, so I was wondering if I would have a hard time if I trained on a treadmill and then walk/jogged the 5k on pavement? Mon, 18 Jun 2012 09:44:19 EST Week 3 redo So I only trained 1 day last week, which was supposed to be week 3. I will be restarting week 3. Frustrating since I wanted to be in week 4. Oh well, life happens right? Wed, 13 Jun 2012 08:59:43 EST Week 1 complete! Yesterday I completed week 1 and I feel really good about it. I did not like having two days of rest in between the second and third run, because I felt sluggish and out of rhythm. I'll continue to cross train with just walking on the rest days. Maybe I'll add some strength training in on those days as well. I've kept on track with my meal plan, with only 1 day of going over my limits. As of this morning I have lost 3 pounds since Monday. I'm pretty proud of that, because I know that I earned... Sun, 10 Jun 2012 21:52:29 EST Week 1 Day 1 - WOW! I needed something to kick me into gear (and kick me in my rear) and this was it!

I haven't run since Junior High and the running was a lot easier and more fun than I remember. Sure, I sweat like kingdom come but it was the first time, in a long time, that my body felt alive.

My stats were:
~ 26 mins (added 1-min walk for cool down)
~ 1.46 miles
~ Treadmill walk speed: 3.0
~ Treadmill run speed: 5.0

I would have done this outdoors but it's ... Sun, 10 Jun 2012 16:28:22 EST Second day of 5K training down! Today was my second day of training, and it was easier than day 1. My stride was smoother and my breathing was more controlled. I felt really good after finishing the cycle. It's amazing how my overall mood has improved, and my whole family is happy about that! I've also noticed that running outside if much more rewarding than running inside on the treadmill for me personally. The sights, sounds, and fresh air are very invigorating. I can definitely see how this becomes addictive! Wed, 6 Jun 2012 21:15:18 EST Day 1 week 1 Finished day one on week one. It hurt in my glutes and back of legs but once I got warmed up I was ok. It has been almost two years since I have ran any due to having second child. Feels good to get back into it. Wed, 6 Jun 2012 11:40:31 EST Week 1's first walk/jog I completed the first walk/jog of the program and I can feel it this morning. I have plenty of soreness in my ankles, calves, and thighs, but nothing too overwhelming. My plan today is to do a lot of stretching, and maybe take a walk this evening. I'm off to a good start and I feel optimistic! Tue, 5 Jun 2012 08:40:52 EST I just can't do a two minute run. I am having a really hard time getting to a 2 minute run. I am in my 2nd week of doing week 3. My course is hilly. I do a 5K every time I go out but it takes me approximately 45 minutes to do it. I am thinking that I should just do shorter runs and shorter walks. Is that a problem? Tue, 5 Jun 2012 07:14:30 EST Hello everyone! Hi. I am a returning user of SparkPeople, and it's been quite a while since I've been on the site. I've never used any of the groups or forums before, and I'm hoping that they will help keep me motivated and committed to my goals. I've joined the walk/jog program because I want to be a runner. I will run my first 5K in five weeks and I will be proud of doing it! Mon, 4 Jun 2012 15:20:28 EST Frustrated I've been going for a couple of weeks now. Tonight I got the bright idea to time myself. I can do 2.2 miles of run/walk intervals in 30 minutes. I can also just walk the 2.2 miles in 35 minutes. Why am I even trying to run if I'm this slow? 46 Sun, 3 Jun 2012 21:46:21 EST Don't think -- just do Week 3, Day 1. I so didn't want to run today. I got up half an hour later, messed around for another 45 minutes, and then finally got out the door. I did the first two intervals kicking and screaming, and almost went home. But I finished. And I did the hills. And I'm glad I stopped thinking and just did.

I find it essential to either sleep in my workout clothes or leave them right next to me when I go to bed. Also, I psych myself up before I go to bed, telling myself that I'm getti... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 01:30:26 EST I did it! I started my challenge today. I walked for 26 minutes and ran for 4 minutes. It almost kicked my butt, but I wouldn't allow myself to give up. It was a beautiful day outside today which made it even more enjoyable. My next day will be Friday (due to my schedule). I will have to make time to work it in on that day, but I will do my best! Wed, 30 May 2012 11:44:49 EST First Day Down! I have been meaning to start this for about two weeks now, so I finally joined it yesterday and took my first walk/jog today. It was pretty fun, even though I did not get as far as I wanted to. Sun, 27 May 2012 23:04:08 EST Incorporating a healthy lifestyle I look in the mirror and who I see is not who I image myself to be. I ran my very first race ever and it was a 10K!!! I had so much fun. I had to walk some parts (mostly the hills) but I finished with a time of 1:23:04. Not too bad, I think, for my first time. Thanks Sparkpeople for the tools & motivation to accomplish such a goal! :D Sun, 20 May 2012 07:43:09 EST Week 4, Gotta Give More!
