Sat, 16 Mar 2019 06:31:32 EST New to challenge Hi everyone, I'm new to this challenge. I'm turning 50 next month and my goal is to walk a 5k. I hope I can be an encouragement to all of you. Sat, 14 Apr 2018 22:07:47 EST Realistic time goal As a family we all picked a time we would like to improve our 5K to by the end of the year. Beginning of the year I was at 55 minutes (still am, but I don't have to use the bars on the treadmill as much). I chose 35 minutes because at one point in my life I could do a 40 minute 5K. Rest of family is jogging/running and I'm walking. Is 35 a reasonable goal? I have no idea so I just randomly chose it. Sun, 11 Feb 2018 19:40:35 EST warm up/cool down time I have a question. On day 1 we walk for 15 minutes. I want to do a 5K walk on 2/23. Is it ok to stretch this out to more than 33 days? It is actually 58 days away. Should I start later?(3/16)? Wed, 15 Feb 2017 18:02:53 EST mama1234563 Hi! Sat, 18 Aug 2012 08:56:02 EST 15 minute mile I will still never understand how people walk a mile in 15 minutes. My block 4x around is 1.1 miles. It takes me 20 minutes (this equals out to about an 18 minute mile), and that is usually speed walking! My legs aren't that short so I can't blame that. I just don't get the 15 minute thing without jogging! I was strolling today because of the kids and it took me 25 minutes.! I'm asking because my time seems slow to me. Wed, 1 Feb 2012 12:12:33 EST walking New to the site and the method. I live in Rock Hill, SC. I'm trying to get my weight down out of the obese range, so I need to loose about 50 lbs. I've signed up to walk in a 5k fundraiser in a few months, so I'm trying to get into shape for that. Where I work has the hallways marked off so that four circuits is a mile, so I don't have the excuse of bad weather not to walk. I'm visually impaired and don't drive, and since I'm trying to save money, I am trying to workout at home. I tend to try... Enough about me. ;) Time to join the party & have some fun. :) Thu, 12 Jan 2012 02:04:53 EST Crosstraining on "off days". I read the article re: crosstraining for runners and just wondered what you guys do. I don't have room enough for equipment and biking is pretty hard here because of the Rural nature of the place. I'm thinking I will do stairs (in my house) combined with kinect and wii video games. I guess doing stairs for 30 minutes should be a pretty good start. Any suggestions? Tue, 10 Jan 2012 10:23:16 EST scheduling a 5k I plan to walk my 5k Monday 2/13. Is there a place to get on a list for a virtual 5k or do we just do it? I am under the impression that there are planned virtual 5ks all the time. Tue, 10 Jan 2012 09:45:13 EST Since it's too rainy to walk! I'll introduce myself. Hello from Alabama. Really today is an off day for walking so I'm not being lazy. I needed a place to get information on walking for exercise and ideas for staying motivated. I have found the place. My plan is to get active instead of "exercising", find things to do that don't involve sitting on the couch! I look forward to learning from y'all and getting fitwith y'all. Sounds like that crazy woman on the food channel huh? Tue, 10 Jan 2012 09:30:28 EST Hey I'm new Just wanted to stop in and say HI! New to sparkpeople but not new to trying to lose weight. I know that I shouldn't start off exercising in an extreme manner but I'm not sure how to actually get started.

Should I just start walking and add other things later? Should I walk and do other types of exercise? I don't want to run marathons or anything like that...I just want to be able to be more active than I am now. In fact, shortly after my early retirement in April of this year, I set out to walk 500k as part of the Camino de Santiago. I walked with a 20 lb pack, and lots of newly made friends along the way.

I plan on returning in 2012, so having short goals as this one will help me keep my stamina high!
Good luck to all,
Pilgrim Aldy Wed, 28 Dec 2011 00:46:23 EST SparkLive! The name is unusual - something like "pes anserus". Anyway, based on the descriptions I read, it sounds exactly like what I have. One of the causes is obesity another a sudde...
