SparkPeople Challenged by Arthritis Team Messageboard This one's for everyone challenged by arthritis - let's discuss our pitfalls and successes! SparkPeople Challenged by Arthritis Team Messageboard Hello Hello everyone!! I can't tell you how much I need an Arthritis group today. I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Tue, 19 May 2020 17:32:51 EST H.A.L.T. This came to my e-mail today:

Halt Emotional Eating.

Using food as a source of comfort is something most people struggle with at some point in their lives. It’s also something we don’t like to discuss (Food, Politics & Religion – Am I right?). Emotional eating is personal and for some painful, but it doesn’t have to be this way! Although it may seem impossible, there are strategies to work through it.

First, be aware of your “trigger” times. The most commo... Sun, 16 Feb 2020 12:01:27 EST The Healthier Direction Came across this today:

Here's Today's Tip... "The Healthier Direction".

Most people “know” what it means to eat healthy (at least in a general sense). Most people “know” that the majority of processed, packaged, fast foods are not as healthy as vegetables and fruits. Most people “know” that sugar-sweetened beverages (i.e., sodas) are not as healthy as water. Most people “know” that stuffing themselves with typical restaurant-style meals and desserts is not as healthy as... Fri, 7 Feb 2020 11:16:25 EST Just Do It You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about your business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.”

— Sharon Bothma, Johannesburg, South Africa

I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 50 (not diagnosed until 55) and while I am in remission, pain is still a part of my everyday life due to other issues besides RA,... Wed, 9 Oct 2019 11:25:24 EST New challenges Hi,

I'm new to navigating the world with arthritic pain in one knee and frequent plantar fasciitis pain in both feet. I'm in my 30s and work a very physical job outside. I miss my typical workouts that will only cause these issues to flair up like hiking, running, or playing volleyball. Looking for tips. Just bought a kayak and hoping that could be a part of the solution. I want to lose 20 percent of my body weight so hiking feels more doable. Mon, 22 Jul 2019 00:15:10 EST Knee Replacement Hello, my name is Larae and I have bone on bone OA in both knees. I was told I need both knees replaced. My concern is recovery time. How long were you out of work?
TIA Sun, 21 Apr 2019 18:28:12 EST Rejoining SP after years away Hello all, I have rejoined SparkPeople after years away. I quit that job thankfully because it was tearing up my body SO bad, etc.
I find that all of the caregiving and the ex job have done a number on my joints. Sun, 16 Dec 2018 12:51:25 EST Has Tumeric helped? What about CBD oil? I am currently taking tumeric to help with my OA. I am curious about cbd oil. Has anyone tried either? Wed, 5 Dec 2018 15:55:11 EST New here From Edmonton Good morning all, I've just joined this group. I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and rheumatoid when I was 15 years old. It was a bit of a shock, my late teens and early 20s where extremely painful. By my late 20s I had taken myself off all my meds and was doing great. I had my 3 children and really didn't have any problems now in my mid 40s I'm back to having issues again. My joints ache and there are many days when my back is so bad that it hurts to breathe. After going through about 6 months of steroid shots in my feet (no fun!!! 46 ), I was diagnosed with the arthritis, after going on the meds for it, about 80% of the feet problems are gone. 41 I still can’t stand for long p... Wed, 4 Mar 2015 21:15:43 EST AS (Anklyosing Spondylitis) Hi. I was diagnosed with AS about thirty years ago. I started teaching aerobics which kept me very active and kept symptoms to a minimum For about 15 years. After a huge flare up i stopped teaching and gained a lot of weight! The pain and other symptoms have worsened. I am seeing a Rheumatologist but would appreciate moral support from other AS sufferers. What works for you? Wed, 4 Mar 2015 13:41:54 EST I'm thankful... Sat, 25 Jan 2014 15:15:18 EST Daily goal of steps: 5000 I get so discouraged seeing the challenges of 10000 steps a day - that's double what I can do and still move the next day. I know I can add a few more steps each day, but not too many - the pain goes up fast, even with the drugs. Wed, 22 Jan 2014 15:05:35 EST Hi New here too! My arthritis has surely slowed me down, and when I had recent knee surgery the surgeon found considerable arthritis in my joints making recovery even more difficult. Exercise difficult with knee pain I joined Sparkpeople two years ago due to knee pain. I lost 40 pounds by diet alone in six months. I was able to keep it off for a year but now it is creeping back. I find it hard to exercise due to my knee pain. When I do low-impact aerobics both of my knees hurt. I wonder if I do leg exercises first to strengthen my legs, perhaps I will be able to do more aerobic activity. Now that I have stopped working as a daycare provider, I find myself with more knee pain. I believe the activity... For years I let fatigue and joint keep me from being more active. Now I have a lot of extra weight from sitting on my rear too much, that just makes my joints hurt worse. I've tried dieting in the past, I usually lost 10 lbs before I stop losing. This time, I want to reach my goal :-) Fri, 6 Dec 2013 18:30:28 EST New here I am just joining you in this forum. Wed, 4 Dec 2013 09:16:22 EST Your expertise needed Hi. I never post on message boards but am close to my wit's end. Did any of you develop arthritis when you entered menopause? I'm 24 with arthritis, most of the pain is in my hip on my left side-but rainy days I have issues with my knees, lower back, and right ankle, and I know that losing weight will help me ease pain and help me get off some of my medications (hopefully!). I know that a pool and a personal trainer are the best ways to get my achy body in motion but I'm also a graduate student, so I do not have the funds for that at the moment. I've got various joints also in my body which hurt as well. But I would have to say my knee really challenges me when it comes to exercise. But I'm exercising!! I'm 40 something years old, married, kids grown and gone and I have two fur babies (kitties) at home. Tue, 10 Sep 2013 07:15:20 EST Hi I'm new 2 your team Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Sandie and I'm 48 years old and live in Springfield MO. I have arthritis in my right knee (knee scope surgery coming up soon) and my lower spine. At the age of 46 I had a total knee replacement of my left knee due to osteoarthritis. It can be a challenge to just do daily tasks. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone! Sun, 8 Sep 2013 08:57:42 EST New to this team Hi, My name is Tina. I am new to the team and was recently diagnosed with OA. I am trying to find natural ways to beat this. I have already lost 22lbs this year at about 1lb per week. I am trying to do things naturally without drugs but had to take tylenol today to ease some of the pain. I was taking Glucosimine/chondrotin but have read in different studies where it can raise your blood pressure and cholesterol. I guess the results show that it is in my L5-S1 in my back - worst on the right ... Sun, 1 Sep 2013 22:15:55 EST Has anyone had success by changing their diet? I've had many people tell me - and I've read tons of literature - that eliminating sugar and processed foods from your diet can greatly reduce the inflammation of arthritis. Has any gone to a whole foods diet? Did it help? Thanks for any input 252 Fri, 30 Aug 2013 14:22:15 EST Walking Injuries I was reading the SP article today on the 5 most common running/walking injuries. Hi -
I'm hoping someone will have a suggestion for me - I've recently had to start using a walker, the kind with wheels in front and skids in back, and after I've been outside, especially crossing a parking lot, the wheels have picked up all kinds of black gunk, which comes off on my vinyl flooring. Fri, 17 May 2013 14:04:27 EST Hello Hi - I'm somewhat sporadic about using the web for my weight loss. I know that having a community to help is supposed to make this easier, but to be honest, checking in every day always seemed like a chore to me. So I guess that's why I haven't been on the Spark website in about 5 years. I figured I was getting the emails and that was enough. But it clearly wasn't. It's not that I haven't lost weight in that time - I've actually gained weight. So much that my doctor said I had to lose about 4... Wed, 8 May 2013 18:13:16 EST Do you use glucosamine? .... I'm only 33 and already in the mornings, it's so cold that I'm nearly crippled for the first 30 to 45 minutes in the morning. I know turning on the heating in the house would help ease the chill but frankly this year we just can't afford it. I may need to find a way to work in a warm bath today or something. Mon, 10 Dec 2012 11:32:46 EST Energize63 Hi everyone I don't know where to begin except I need help. A year ago I had a total knee replacement with complications of not healing properly. I've been told by many people over the years that drinking apple cider vinegar in water every day has tons of healthy benefits. Not being one who enjoys vinegary tasting foods, I've pretty much ignored this advice.

I started drinking it today because I read that it not only aids in weight loss, but it aids in joint pain relief and stiffness as well. After doing the research, I bought Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar with the "mot... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 18:20:40 EST New to team! Hi, I'm Kelly. I am dangerously close to 35 (in a week). Am so happy to be on this side of it; recovery is going very well. Completed in-home PT; starting 8 weeks of PT at the clinic on Monday. Went into the procedure with extra lbs. which I am determined to lose as I become more active. Spending today setting up my eating plan and tracking on Spark. So glad I found the site last week. Being able to take my dog for a 2 mile walk is something I missed so much. Fri, 27 Jan 2012 10:58:03 EST Is this a glitch? I have just been having a look at our team page and looking at the members. I was stunned when I went through the first ELEVEN pages and there would be lucky to be more than 4 members per page with a profile. Is this just a glitch and just me seeing (or in this case NOT seeing) the members, or is it normally like this. With such a big team it seems really strange to me.

Kris Sat, 21 Jan 2012 16:56:48 EST new year, new goals I want to make 2012 a year of healthy choices in all areas of my life -- food, exercise, work, family, and friends.
