SparkPeople Rebuilding ourselves after Breast Cancer! Team Messageboard A place for those who want to rebuild their lives during or after the devastating effects of breast cancer. Welcome anyone who has been affected by breast cancer in some way. (Men too!) SparkPeople Rebuilding ourselves after Breast Cancer! Team Messageboard TRAM FLAP? Hello everyone: has anyone had a tram flap procedure done? I am lucky in that the margins were clear and I elected not to have radiation because of a heart defect so I had a mastectomy. Cannot take tamoxifen as the cancer was labeled negative but aggressive cells were there. I wanted to connect with anyone having a tram to see if they were experiencing the same problems I am two years out. I have a problem with fluid retention after sitting for any length of time and am currently going f... Tue, 12 Mar 2013 15:52:03 EST 27 and a Survivor Hello! My name is Lauren and I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year after finding a lump in my left breast. I had a lumpectomy and received chemo and radiation all while trying to keep up with my one-year-old. It was tough but I am so grateful for my family and friends that loved me through it all which helped in my staying positive. Now that my treatment is behind me, I want to focus on getting healthy and keeping myself cancer-free. :o) Sun, 13 Jan 2013 16:11:56 EST Obesity and Cancer There is so much being said in the mainstream media about obesity. To me, it is even worse to be overweight. I have diabetes, and when folks learn of that, they tend to comment about my if it's their business. Now, we have cancer to contend with. What do y'all think? Is cancer related to obesity, and if so, how does all of that affect you?

Karyn Mon, 22 Oct 2012 13:05:38 EST An Awareness The past three days I haven't been binging, like in the past, BUT I have become aware at a behavior of mine that sets me up to jump off the wagon every time. I'd eat a little extra at lunch or another meal. Then, I would do the same over a period of time and finally find myself binging on food. All of the intensity of emotional eating would resurface and I'd spiral down emotionally for a very long time. Last night, I had a mexican food meal with friends. Because of schedule conflicts, I... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 17:36:01 EST I am so disappointed in Susan G. Komen foundation Susan Komen foundation, caving into right-wing fundamentalists in congress, has cut funding for Planned Parenthood for breast exams and referrals. I agree with Sue Dunlap: "when women's health is more of a political conversation than a conversation about healthcare and taking care of people, then we've gone too far."

I am sick about this. I rely on Susan Komen foundation for breast care; my daughter relies on Planned Parenthood for her reproductive health care. I won't be running ... Sat, 10 Dec 2011 21:11:39 EST Very amazing and inspirational! Yesterday, I went to a genetics update conference. One of the main topics was cancer - all cancers, not just Breast Cancer. Anyways, the presenter, who has a Phd and is a professor at Indiana University said sometime during my lifetime (I'm 18), there probably will still be cancer, however, the death rate for cancer will be 0%. I just found this very inspiring. Amazing what we can do now! Thu, 29 Sep 2011 08:08:04 EST Atypical Hyperplasia, but Cancer-Free! This summer the Susan G. Komen Breast Center found a large area of calcification in my left breast. They removed a portion of it and I got pathology results that showed no cancer, and no additional atypical cells!

I kind of stopped everything for a while. But I'm back now, watching what I eat and drink, and exercising more. I want to remain as healthy as possible. I feel so fortunate! Sat, 28 Aug 2010 12:00:44 EST My Mother's Story My mother had breast cancer in 1973. She trusted our family doctor, who did a mastectomy. She was treated with chemo and radiation, lost her hair, had a fever most days, but she made it through the ordeal. She lived for another 10 years, supposedly cancer free. However, such was not the case. In 1982 she found out she had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Again she went through chemo and radiation, however, a year after her diagnosis, she died. I will always think that the lymphoma was related to the b... Sat, 28 Aug 2010 11:20:07 EST Susan G. Komen Story Nancy Brinker is the founder of the organization "Susan G.
