I am lucky in that the margins were clear and I elected not to have radiation because of a heart defect so I had a mastectomy. Cannot take tamoxifen as the cancer was labeled negative but aggressive cells were there. I wanted to connect with anyone having a tram to see if they were experiencing the same problems I am two years out. My name is Lauren and I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year after finding a lump in my left breast. I had a lumpectomy and received chemo and radiation all while trying to keep up with my one-year-old. It was tough but I am so grateful for my family and friends that loved me through it all which helped in my staying positive. Now that my treatment is behind me, I want to focus on getting healthy and keeping myself cancer-free. :o) Sun, 13 Jan 2013 16:11:56 EST Obesity and Cancer http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x43868x50500768 There is so much being said in the mainstream media about obesity. To me, it is even worse to be overweight. I have diabetes, and when folks learn of that, they tend to comment about my weight....as if it's their business. Now, we have cancer to contend with. What do y'all think? Is cancer related to obesity, and if so, how does all of that affect you? <BR> <BR> Karyn Mon, 22 Oct 2012 13:05:38 EST An Awareness http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x43868x50107948 The past three days I haven't been binging, like in the past, BUT I have become aware at a behavior of mine that sets me up to jump off the wagon every time. I'd eat a little extra at lunch or another meal. Then, I would do the same over a period of time and finally find myself binging on food. All of the intensity of emotional eating would resurface and I'd spiral down emotionally for a very long time. Last night, I had a mexican food meal with friends. Because of schedule conflicts, I... Komen foundation http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x43868x46358263 Susan Komen foundation, caving into right-wing fundamentalists in congress, has cut funding for Planned Parenthood for breast exams and referrals. I agree with Sue Dunlap: "when women's health is more of a political conversation than a conversation about healthcare and taking care of people, then we've gone too far." <BR> <BR> I am sick about this. I rely on Susan Komen foundation for breast care; my daughter relies on Planned Parenthood for her reproductive health care. I won't be running ... One of the main topics was cancer - all cancers, not just Breast Cancer. Anyways, the presenter, who has a Phd and is a professor at Indiana University said sometime during my lifetime (I'm 18), there probably will still be cancer, however, the death rate for cancer will be 0%. I just found this very inspiring. Amazing what we can do now!
