Sun, 30 Sep 2012 09:20:29 EST Hi Guys! New here and loving it Hi everyone! I'm so happy to have found this group! I was cleaning out a closet the other day and came accross my old jump rope. It's one of the beaded kind that makes an awesome sound whenever it hits the concrete, lol. I started for the first time on Monday. I think I did 200 or something, nothing to write home about. However, it was just enough to remind how much more fun it is then the treadmill, lol. Yesterday I did 1000 jumps in one workout session and then followed it up by another 100... Wed, 19 Sep 2012 13:12:13 EST I'm pumped This is the first challenge I've joined on SparkPeople. I am definitely lacking the motivation department so I'll welcome any tips anyone may have. I'm going to go jump rope right now. Mon, 9 Jul 2012 16:40:09 EST How to calculate calories burned per jump The calories burned will depend on your weight and the speed of jump. According to the article below, if you're 160 lbs and jump at 125 beats per minute, then you'd burn about 100 calories per 1000 skips as it'll take about 8 minutes. If you weight 200 lbs, a rough guess would be 125 calories per 1000 skips at 125 skips per minute. Or if you're 120 lbs, then you'd burn about 75 calories. If you jump slower than that, then you'd burn less, but not a whole lot less. I don't think it's more than... Thu, 5 Jul 2012 18:03:00 EST Monthly Challenge: July 2012 Hi Team! I hope you did great in June 2012, WooHoo!

This month, our mini goal is minute challenge. Do at least 2-min of jump rope daily. Quite simple, right :D

As usual, our main goal for every month is set your maximum total for jump rope this month, post it here and share your progress with team!

Lots of fireworks in July with JUMP ROPE! Sun, 1 Jul 2012 20:47:17 EST My jump rope is beating me up, literally! About 4 months ago, I got a new jump rope. It's the same model as my old one. I loved that old rope and wore it out to nothing. With the old rope, I could jump 1,000 - 2,000 jumps before I would miss. With this new one I seem to be missing a lot. Every time I miss, the rope hits my bare thighs (I jump in shorts) and leaves a welt, sometimes a little bruise. When it hits me, it hurts a lot. Also, I jump rope barefoot. Sometimes, when I miss, the rope hits my big toes. Not only does that hurt l... Wed, 27 Jun 2012 09:15:40 EST Never jumped rope before... Hi all! I'm Becca, a 19 year old university student from Oxford, England.

I was on my way back from seeing a friend a couple of days ago, and I popped into a sports shop since I needed some new running socks. There, on sale, was a bunch of jump ropes. I'd heard how good of a workout it could be, so I gave in and bought one! I'm looking forward to incorporating it into my workout routine, and any hints and tips would be much appreciated.

:) Sun, 17 Jun 2012 08:58:41 EST Trampoline Jumping Hi everyone! I thought I would share something fun and interesting. Sometimes when I am unable to actually go jump rope ( we are doing work in the backyard...and I am lazy to go anywhere else to jump for example:/) I set up my mini trampoline and jump in various ways. From logging in my fitness time on Spark People from using the mini trampoline, it states I do not burn as many calories as jump roping at all ( Jumping rope is still my number one calorie scorcher!), but it is fun and can add v... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 20:43:27 EST hey hey hey hello everyone, I'm new to sparkpeople, just signed up. I've been exercising regularly for about 5 weeks now and haven't seen any results. I'm hoping that having a nutrition and fitness tracker will help me understand where I'm going wrong so I can start achieving my goal. BTW I'm going to buy my jump rope tonight! =D Thu, 23 Jun 2011 22:00:07 EST Newbie jumper Hi- I joined this team yesterday and want to give this a try. I bought an inexpensive speed rope ($9.99) tonight and both my husband and I will see how we do. We are in Sparkpeople together so it is nice to have a buddy right there to do things with. I haven't even done it since I was in at least 5th grade. I'm gonna go to the store this evening and get one for myself and one for my daughter. Maybe she'll do it with me. So glad I found this team. Thu, 16 Jun 2011 17:26:53 EST New and without a rope! ;) I'm so new to the idea of jumping rope as a daily exercise that I don't even have a jump rope yet! ;) I was actually thinking of making one, to start out with (and maybe to continue with). I have enough yarn around here, and I have a rope twister I've never even used ... I might as well try it, right?

But then, it might be easier to put off starting to jump if I have to make the rope. Or maybe I'll put off starting longer if I have to spend money on it. It could go either way. ;) <... Sat, 11 Jun 2011 10:59:56 EST Newbie :) Just joined SparkPeople and saw this team. Been on SparkPeople for a little over a month, and (sadly) I'm noticing that a lot of the groups I joined are inactive. And then I stumbled across this one. I bought a jump rope to use at the gym, but since moving, have not felt motivated to use it. It seems like a good way to workout this summer, since I moved to a very hilly neighborhood and jogging is out of the equation for the time being.

Looking forward to skipping around everyday! :) Wed, 8 Jun 2011 19:43:31 EST Hello Friends Hi Everybody. I have just discovered this website and I am looking towards loosing a few pounds (LOL) - more pounds than I had previously thought. Mon, 24 Mar 2008 11:11:13 EST Another New B Hi,

My name is Mandy, and I am new to spark people, but not new to the struggle with my weight. I joined this specific group becuase part of my weight loss plan is to jump rope whenever I take my dog out back. By jomp roping while I take the dog out I can get some of my cardio in, during a time when I would just be standing around.

I am looking forward to getting to being an active member of this group.

Mandy Mon, 24 Mar 2008 07:41:17 EST I'm new!! Hi! My name is Tiffany and I'm a graduate student at Indiana University. I'm getting my degree in Counseling and I sit for most of the day at my internship. I've gained about 15 pounds since starting school here due to the sitting that accompanies my chosen field. I LOVE what I do, but I need to get more active in order to return to my normal weight and to maintain it in the future! I just got a personal trainer to help me add in exercise (hopefully 3-4 times a week!), so I wanted to incorpor... Sun, 9 Mar 2008 00:31:49 EST Hi all !! I'm new :D Hi all again!
My name is Martina, I'm from Italy... I've bought on internet the Rope Sport intermediate workout and today it's arrived at my home!!!

I love it!!

I've tried to do the workout just this evening (without the rope, only simulating the moving because I was in a small room this evening).

I LOVE "JUMP ROPING"... I hope I can do egain this workout tomorrow with my jump rope too.

Hi all !!!!!! 244 Sat, 8 Mar 2008 16:48:56 EST YAY! I'm so excited! I bought a jump rope about 3 weeks ago because it was soooo inexpensive and I know it's such a great activity. Imagine my suprise when I see a spark group devoted to a jump rope challenge!! I'm good for several 2-minute intervals and am working up some stamina... Good luck one and all... Jump On!! Thu, 6 Mar 2008 14:46:28 EST Greetings from an "alternati ive-style" jumper!! Hi, my name is Anita, and I'm from central Ohio. I loved jumping rope when I was a kid, and reached a point in my adulthood where I was too heavy to do it any more. After I actually lost enough weight and got fit enough to try to resume it, I had reconstructive surgery on my foot, that precludes any form of jumping on solid surfaces. Well, I found all hope was NOT lost. I started jumping on a rebounder. This is an amazing workout in and of itself, but I still found that I wanted to add a rope... Wed, 20 Feb 2008 12:08:34 EST Introduction!!! Hey Jump Ropers,

I'm known as Soulfulremix, and I hope this group will get me jumping, jumping!! I finally bought a rope about a week ago.

I look forward to using this team to challenge myself with an additonal, fun cardio routine. Mon, 18 Feb 2008 12:54:33 EST Jumping for Balance (and Laughs!) Greetings, all. My name is Jason and I'm new to the group. I started jumping rope a little over 3 weeks ago, and after about 5 minutes of mostly missed jumps, I thought my heart was about to stop. But my 3 year old son's laughter at every misstep and amazement with every jump made me decide to get back at it the next day (and almost every day since), despite the burning calf muscles. I'm currently starting on a program of core exercises and jump rope to increase my balance and flexibility... Mon, 18 Feb 2008 00:56:56 EST Hello Everyone!! Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the team and I'd like to get in on the challenge. I'm so excited and looking forward to jumping rope again...haven't done it in years!! Wed, 23 Jan 2008 09:17:23 EST Oprah's looking for you! Hey guys a friend of mine passed this along to me and I thought I would share it with all of you!! This would be a great way to spread the spark if one of our very own Spark members could get on the Oprah show!!! Here's the info below from the website:

Are you a WEIGHT LOSS SUCCESS story?

Have you lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off? Have you tried every diet in the book and finally discovered the key to healthy weight loss.
... Wed, 23 Jan 2008 01:29:39 EST Hi. Newbie here! Long time since I jumped rope! Howdy. I am new to this board. I live in Stockholm Sweden. Born and raised in New York!

I wanna jumprope. Gotta know the in's and out's. Is there a certain number of minutes to begin or a certain number of 'jumps' to begin?

I usually Taebo and Weight train but i wanna get a little different cardio slipped in there to shake things up! Give the body a boost in the mornings! Sat, 19 Jan 2008 11:23:57 EST Hi! I'm new -- haven't jump roped in 30 years But I want to try it as a new cardio exercise. I bought my jumprope today and did a whole whopping 3 minutes before I thought I would croak. Does anyone have tips on getting started? Just keep at it? I notice people mention how many jumps they did -- is it better to count time or count jumps, or both? Thanks for your patience with my questions! Thu, 17 Jan 2008 23:40:42 EST Jumproping is hard 213 Hi! I'm a 27 year old single mom. I work and am going to school full time to get a Masters in Nursing. So I'm a little strapped for time/exercise ideas. Because I'm a single mom and my schedule is killer, my only real exercise option is something at home. So I bought a jump rope thinking it would be a quick easy way to get back in shape. After my first jumping session, I think that I was right except for the 'easy' part. Apparently I need leg muscles to keep jumping for... Sun, 13 Jan 2008 22:29:16 EST Hi, I'm new . . . from Minnesota :) Glad you started this group, it's a good idea. I'll start tomorrow--I'm not sure I can start with 100, but we'll see 40 Tue, 8 Jan 2008 18:33:15 EST 2 left feet I'm only on day 4 of the challenge but I'm having a bit of a problem. Yesterday I started on the Couch25K challenge and today I can't jump more than 5 or 6 times before tripping up. Tired muscles...WAY frustrating. I think I'm going to have to take a pass on the jumprope today or I might just kill myself when I fall on my face! Truly...I'm usually pretty good at this. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble? Mon, 7 Jan 2008 12:15:38 EST Fast versus slow jump roping? I just had a quick question - I average about 75 double jumps a minute, but I have no idea if that is fast or slow when I'm putting it in the fitness tracker. It certainly feels fast to me, but then, I'm pretty out of shape.

Help? Mon, 7 Jan 2008 11:09:58 EST New from New York! Hi group! I'm a college grad currently working at the University but also currently applying to grad school. With the stress of work, home, and school I've gained a lot of UNNECESSARY weight! I just recently decided to start jump roping as I have learned so much of its benefits! I'm hoping to really pick up on some great workouts and challenges!!!! Mon, 7 Jan 2008 10:07:29 EST Hello! I'm new. I'm a 37 yr. old SAHM trying to lose that stubborn baby weight/belly fat. I haven't exercised much the past couple of years, so I think that's the key. I'm thinking that jumping rope is a cheap and convenient way to get in some cardio. I plan on starting this Tuesday (doing Callanetics on MWF), so I'll join in on the challenges then. I look forward to getting to know you all better & getting in shape together! Mon, 7 Jan 2008 01:16:03 EST New in AZ I just found this team today! I'm in Arizona with my two shih tzus, husband and soon-to-be-born daughter. I had just lost 4 pounds when I got pregnant, a loss that allowed me to slip back into the overweight category from obese. I have a lot of work ahead of me after my daughter is born, but I'm up for the challenge! Fri, 4 Jan 2008 22:08:48 EST Im new at this At first, I thought ...jumping rope owww I can do that. Well.... I can jump about 175 times at once. I was pusing for 15 mins. (LOL) What a surprize!!!! How long should it take me to actually be able to put in around 15 mins of jumping rope time. I calulated the jumping rope I need at least 15 mins to burn calories that I need to burn. Wish me luck!!! Thu, 3 Jan 2008 13:07:39 EST Roadtrip Exercise I'll be taking a raodtrip this week and will be taking my jump rope. I'm jazzed that I can jump rope anywhere we stay! What a great portable workout! Sun, 30 Dec 2007 02:17:08 EST Hi! I'm new. Hi! I just joined the team today!

When I joined SparkPeople a few weeks ago, I browsed through the Sparkteams. I was inspired by this Sparkteam to start jumping rope.

I dabbled with it about a week and a half ago. No jump rope or anything(cuz it's WAY to cold out in Iowa - and no room in my house), but I tried just jumping in place for about 2 minutes. My first time since, oh...about grade school.

WOW! What a workout!

I decided that anyth... Sun, 30 Dec 2007 02:11:50 EST Time vs count Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and just wondering if instead of counting skips we can go for time? Glad to be here and am looking forward to having lots of fun. 213 Thu, 27 Dec 2007 13:13:10 EST Hello! I'm a new girl! Hi! My name is Helen and I love to skip! I look forward to meeting you and joining in with the challenges. I hear it's one of the best way to lose weight. It certainly gets my heart pumping!

30 Sat, 22 Dec 2007 15:53:06 EST This is an awesome group! Hey my name is Christyn... I LOVE this idea!
I will keep the main board posted on how I am going... I just wanted to ask does anyone here get shin splints?
There should be a shin splint support group I reckon! I am running to help my bones strengthen and I intermittently get shin splints... I keep telling myself though that eventually I will have healthy strong bones!
Anyway, I will jump rope on my running off-days otherwise I think my skeletal system will collapse!

... Thu, 20 Dec 2007 06:52:33 EST Hey! I remember back to when I was a kid and I would jump rope for hours. Not anymore. Now it leaves me out of breath after only a few minutes!

I am going to begin jumping rope again as part of my workouts, because it really is great work.

Not much to know about me. I am a horse trainer who loves the outdoors, camping, backpacking, and traveling. Wed, 19 Dec 2007 20:01:13 EST
