I am hoping to learn some great meal planning/prepping that can help us eat healthier, as with our busy schedules (working, hockey, skating, swimming...) we are eating out way too often. Plus, any suggestions on how to become better at getting a workout in during the day are appreciated. Since I have to take kids to/from school/daycare everyday on top of work... Thu, 2 Jun 2016 18:55:17 EST Parent activities during school day Do you all ever get mad at schools that have activities during day time when parents are at work? Is it just my school district that does that? I know I am not the only mother that works full time. Why do schools ask for volunteers and have parent related activities during the day? Over the past two years that joys of becoming a mother and the stress and sorrow of dealing with the terminal illness of my beloved father have caused me to spiral out of control with weight gain and inactivity. So we'll see how this goes.

I'm a working mother of one 5 (and three-quarters, as she'd say) year-old girl. Married about 13.5 years and hit 40 this year. And I swear it all went to pot the minute I turned 40. Knees went bad. Blood pressure spiked (no meds yet; just a recommendation to lose "a few" pounds). Migraines peaked.

The good news is that, for the first time every, I started an exercise routine and pretty much ... I don't really need any responces. I just need to say that I'm having a lot of trouble balencing everything recently.

Because I work, when I get home, I want to spend my time with my daughter (12 months) and not have to do a million other things. But, I have a million other things to do!

When I get home I have to get Peyton a snack, take the dog out, do some dishes, work out, make dinner. I have an elliptical in my basement/play room but I haven't used it yet becuase I just know if I try to get on it in the evenings for like 30 minutes my daughter isn't going to let me. So many of us have heaping plates as it is. How do you handle the school programs, class parties, decorating, gift shopping, gift wrapping, shipping gifts, paying for the gifts, etc? With all that hubbub, how do you make sure to revel in it and appreciate the special moments, too? Sat, 10 Dec 2011 14:16:02 EST New to the team - Hello! Hi Working Moms, I am a 43 year old Mom of two who's trying to regain a healthful life for myself and for my family! I look forward to being inspired by the success some of you ave already achieved. Sat, 12 Nov 2011 19:03:58 EST Starting up Hi Everyone! I'm an emergency veterinarian in NY state.
I've actually been on a weight loss "plan" for 7-8 months already and have lossed 88# so far. It sounds great when I write that, but I have to admit that I still feel very much like a "fat girl." Admittedly, I still have a long way to go. I have at least another 50# to go to be truly healthy.
It really is sad how much we judge ourselves -- I am 100x more harsh on myself than I would ever be on anyone else!
I have a cra... I am a busy mother of an 11 and 9 year old boys who are active in just about every sport and a 6 year old girl who is just getting started. I have been married for 6 years and work 40+ hours a week. Hoping to find ways to get back into my workout routine and eat better so I feel better about myself. Looking forward to getting ideas!! Nice to meet everyone. 41 Tue, 8 Nov 2011 22:17:16 EST Newbie :) Hi!! I am the mom to a wonderful 5 year old boy. I also work full time. It is very hard for me to prioritize myself into the day so that I take time for myself to exercise. I look forward to reading how others find that time. I know that taking care of myself will make me a better mom and wife so I decided to make it happen now. Sun, 6 Nov 2011 15:09:59 EST Hello All! Hi! I am new to this site and decided to join after I have seen the results that a friend of mine has had. I love to eat and with the stressful events of my everyday life the food is in control and I am not. I want to take back my control. - Steph Sun, 30 Oct 2011 18:42:07 EST What time of day do you exercise? I have done early morning workouts in the past (5am-6am so I can be to work by 7am) but just can't make myself get out of bed on these cold mornings. I am now working out from 8pm-9pm after the kids are in bed. The bummer is, I never get to the gym anymore because it closes at 8pm (I live in a small town, only one option). I also talk myself out of it alot because I am so tired by then. I feel super guilty exercising when the kids are awake because I have already been away from them all d... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 13:24:16 EST How do you handle weekends? I seem to manage on the week. I have my plan and since my schedule is pretty set I stick to it. I eat a frozen diet meal (yuk, I know), or low calorie soup for lunch. I usually walk at lunch, then eat at my desk. Since I have the food there and it's easy, I'm not tempted to get something "better." My co workers may have something tastier, but they aren't offering it to me. lol

For dinner, I have a salad and hubby has been fixing fattening junk for he and the boys. I'm busy and tir... Every time I loose a pound, I gain it back plus a little more. I eat way past full and LOTS of junk. I was part of a three-person buddy group last year that helped me get some solid ground under my feet and get some good momentum going on a healthy life. But then I took a vacation and never came back to it! The 25 lbs I lost is back along with 30 more for company. My health is starting to go downhill again, I can't play with my DD like I used... Hi, any thoughts on how best to handle all the Halloween candy that comes in through your kids' Trick or Treating? In past years I've collected extra candy and brought it into work, telling my kids that if they leave extra candy for the "Halloween Fairy," she will bring them a gift (book, little special something, etc.). This helps but I still wind up snacking, as I haven't had much willpower in the past. (I just joined SparkPeople so hopefully I'll be better staying on track this year.) ... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 06:43:48 EST What one thing is a struggle to do today? Every day we face new and different challenges as working Mom's. So for me the biggest struggle today is to not let others attitude bring me down and cause me to doubt my ability to make wise choices around fitness and food Wed, 13 Jul 2011 07:01:35 EST Me Time What one thing have you done today for yourself to move forward on your better health journey? Tue, 12 Jul 2011 07:15:36 EST New Challenge - July We have an idea to have a challenge here where you check in at the end of the day with two updates:
1. Did you drink your 8 glasses of water?
2. Did you post to the group - inspiring others?

Check in every day :)

Good luck!
Stephanie Mon, 11 Jul 2011 12:25:00 EST "Stolen Exercise" Here's an idea from BUSYBODI - let's share tips and tricks to how we've burned some extra calories and found some "stolen exercise" in our day!

Yesterday, we had a picnic in the park for dinner, and we brought some soccer balls and frisbees. Instead of passing to the children to play, I ran around the field with them - it was me, the nephews and my kids - the other adults laughed and asked if I was tiring the kids out or if I was tiring myself out!! I was ok with either outcome... ... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 12:21:40 EST My Story... So I'm back...after a mini hiatus. I had success with Spark people last year losing 30 lbs. I stopped my diet and exercise routine about 20 lbs short of my goal. I went from working part time to full time and found it really hard to continue my exercise and diet routine (as I'm sure most of you can imagine). So, I'm trying to get back on track living a healthier lifestyle, working full time, and always making sure the kids feel like they come first. Wish me luck! Thu, 23 Jun 2011 22:09:45 EST How do people feel about a new challenge? July is around the corner - did you want to work on a challenge together? How about something like this:
- logging in and spinning the points wheel,
- posting to the message board,
- make one blog entry; and,
- exercising (even 10 minutes)

What if we checked in and did this every day? Do you guys like this approach? I want to keep it doable, but keep us accountable for taking some time for ourselves! Thu, 23 Jun 2011 12:21:40 EST Newbie :) Hey everyone! I'm Kim, from SW Texas, and I'm an overall newbie to SP. I'm excited to meet and talk with some of y'all about issues I struggle with as a working mommy. I have two beautiful babies and an awesome hubby! I like to read and cook and play with our new puppy!

Kim :) Sun, 22 May 2011 14:09:48 EST "Fast Food" - share your quick dinner tips Seeing as we are working moms - thought I would start a thread on how we quickly prepare dinners (and possibly other meals) so that they are family friendly - and healthy. One of my favourites, is of course, the crockpot - I prepare it the night before! One of the best investments I made was buying that pot!

What do you do to ensure the family gets a healthy meal during a work day? Sat, 7 May 2011 09:54:34 EST Learning to say 'no' - too many to-do's... There are so many requests for my time - so many good, noble volunteer requests, then of course: work requests, family duties, home duties - soooo much that could be done - but I need to be less generous with my time. What do you do when you are approached by the schools, churches, community centres, etc. for help with so many things - where do you draw the line? Wed, 4 May 2011 22:54:18 EST Introduce myself Hello! I'm new to this board. I've been a Sparkpeople member since 2007. I used this site as a motivator to get in shape when I got married. Well, four years, one husband and a baby later, I'm back! I forgot how much I loved the diet and fitness tips on here. I'm hoping to maintain the weight I'm at now, as well as search for ways to fit regular exercise into our very busy lives. Hoping to meet some other working moms who could give me some ideas! It's been pointed out that we can be a little silent on this team - this is what happens when a group of working moms are all on the same team!! We are busy women. So, take some time to support your fellow-working-moms - let's all create one new blog post every week to get some conversations going. Share how you are doing and ask for support, opinions or just simply post your thoughts... Mon, 21 Mar 2011 22:30:27 EST What are your plans with the good weather coming? Spring is here... What are your plans with the good weather coming and more sunlight outdoors? Mon, 21 Mar 2011 22:23:09 EST How do you fit it all in? I imagine most of you are in the same boat as me - not enough hours in the day! I have not been great at being consistent since November - a little on and off with this journey. I have a thousand excuses why it is so (yes, I do now recognize them as excuses.) I've been working insane hours and life at home is running at its ususal hectic pace. So here's the question to the team - to you working moms out there - when do you exercise and prepare your meal plans/meals/snacks? What does a typical... I try and do this every month and those months I achieve 500 points are always my best weight-loss months. it's a good goal for us because it works for those of us losing weight, but it also works for those maintaining a healthy active lifestyle. Let's see who can get to 500 points by the end of the month- chime in and let us know how you are doing! Sat, 1 Jan 2011 23:24:17 EST What are your New Year's Resolutions? With 2010 coming to a close, I'm thinking of how much I've accomplished this year and what I'd like to change up in 2011. What are you planning on changing/doing in 2011? Wed, 22 Dec 2010 22:37:38 EST How do you bounce back from illness? I've been out with a cold for four days now. It's really done a number on me - I'm a super-busy mom with so much on the go and I manage to make it all happen - until I'm sick! Then stuff falls of the rails. Not surprising. But now I'm beginning to feel better - just drained and unmotivated. How do you get yourself back to routine when you are back on the mend? Thu, 11 Nov 2010 13:41:03 EST Healthy snack ideas ANGELMON09 sent me a great suggestion in an email - why not start a thread about healthy snack ideas? We are all busy - what do you suggest to have on hand that's easy (and healthy!) to grab. For kids lunchboxes, snacks on the go - or even ourselves! Tue, 26 Oct 2010 19:06:57 EST Add 100 steps per day Hi everyone - welcome to our first challenge! One suggestion was to add 100 more steps per day for one week and then maintain that level for 1 month. What do you think? Get out those pedometers. The first few days would be to measure how many steps you walk per day on average, then we can start adding... You in? Tue, 26 Oct 2010 19:00:15 EST Getting back on track I knew that when I had my surgery (small hernia repair) that I would not enjoy my fitness and that my nutrition might be a little off for two weeks. I didn't get overly concerned, little setback, no big deal. What I didn't expect is that the two weeks off got me out of my routine, and then the added stress of all of my outstanding work (that was of course, waiting for me when I returned to the office) had me completely off guard. I'm still catching up - working really hard. I find it tough to... Tue, 26 Oct 2010 18:50:03 EST Challenge anyone? I know we are all super busy (we are working moms, afterall!) but I think it might be fun if we had a little challenge amongst ourselves to inspire and motivate each other. I don't want to stress us out - so looking for suggestions! Challenge anyone? Please reply with your ideas and let's set something up! Thu, 14 Oct 2010 00:25:25 EST If you had extra time... what would you do? Well - as many of you know, I'm laid up after surgery! I'm so lucky, my mom and dad have been over helping me take care of the kids and the housework while I'm off my feet. I'm having a really hard time adjusting to having time - it's so unnatural to me. And now, I'm feeling guilty - like I'm wasting time. So, I don't want to strain myself or set back my recuperation time - but I do want to continue my journey here on a daily basis and 'show up' to work on me. So, if you were not able to move... Tue, 5 Oct 2010 23:32:11 EST Restarting.... Hi everyone. I've been with SP for 2 years and used it to lose 50 lbs. After I accomplished that, I moved into a 2nd shift position and while I had more time on my hands that didn't necessarily result in more time to work out. More like more time to eat. As a result I've put back on 25 lbs. I just got a promotion at work so I'm back to 1st shift with a normal schedule. However, I'm working 50-55 hours a week so I'm trying to find a balance between work, family and time to work out. Oh yeah a... Sat, 2 Oct 2010 18:26:40 EST trying to redirect my life Hello my name is Angela and I had my first baby 4 months ago. I have two step daughters and I am trying to balance work, school, family and me. So that is why I am here. I am super excited and can't wait to get started. Tue, 21 Sep 2010 16:00:04 EST Putting myself on my 'to do' list I find with so much on the go these days it's hard to find the time to do something for just me. My strategy has been to try and include a few activities that are for the whole family. Today we went ice skating. A great work out and a great family time event. What do you do to "make" time? Sun, 19 Sep 2010 21:39:57 EST How do you say 'no' - too many obligations! Well, I must admit it - I'm a serial volunteer-er. OK, not a real word - but you understand. I work full-time, I have two kids and they both participate in sports and extra activities, etc. Well, I'm part of the relevant school & daycare parent boards, I'm the head of the volunteer committee for my daughter's gymnastics and I've already received a special 'welcome to the team - what would you like to do?' email from my son's new hockey coach. I don't know. Sometimes I think I do too much, but... Fri, 17 Sep 2010 22:39:45 EST Frustrated at work Hi working moms. I just have to share something with you. I can’t share with my husband since he is very busy and does not have time to talk at the moment. He is on a new job, so I don’t want to disturb him either. I will have to wait until tonight to talk to him. But, I have to tell someone.

My job is very time sensitive. It’s based on stock market and work needs to get done as soon as it comes in since we never know when market might go down. Everything we do, we have to ... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 17:51:12 EST Preparing family-f riendly, healthy dinners Hi,
I figure with the school year starting and summer vacations are over, we are all back to the grind! Time to settle back into our schedules, including eating. I don't want to order-in for dinners, I like to prepare healthy meals for everyone. I'm about to dust off the ol' crock-pot (I'm checking SparkRecipes for some ideas.) Any other ideas on quick family-friendly meals that are healthy and can be made in minutes? (To be honest, preferably with minimal pots!!) Mon, 13 Sep 2010 13:10:33 EST When do you exercise? OK - I've spent the past couple of weeks getting back into the habit of tracking all of my food (even on the bad days - ha!) and making better choices. I'm taking my multivitamins, getting sleep even drinking water. The pounds are starting to peel off again - yee haw! So now it's time to re-acquaint myself with exercise. I have the busy schedules like the rest of you - kids, hubby, job - it all has to fit in - but so do I? When have you had the best luck fitting in your exercise into a schedu... Sun, 12 Sep 2010 23:55:25 EST Getting Started Hi everyone.
I'm biting the bullet and finally getting serious about diet, fitness and health. I'm a 44-year-old mom working at a full-time desk job. I have a great husband and 3 wonderful sons (ages 13, 10 & 2). When I graduated high school I wore a size 6 and weighed 98 pounds. A lifetime later I'm a size 12/14, weighing in at 166 pounds, my highest nonpregnancy weight ever--just 6 pounds shy of my highest pregnancy weight. In addition, I have been battling high blood pressure and taki... Wed, 18 Aug 2010 10:44:43 EST Hi :) Hi there!!! I just joined yesterday and am hoping to find support & encouragement and maybe make some new friends along the way!! Fri, 6 Aug 2010 18:56:29 EST Looking for friends I'm sort of new to this website and I love it. I would like to meet more people in similar situation as myself though. I work full time at a bank 13 hour shifts 3 days a week and at Publix one day a week. I have a 4 year old boy. I have been making healthier food choices and cardio at least 3 days a week 30-60 minutes, but I have not seen the results I want. Any one in the some boat? 24 Fri, 9 Jul 2010 08:07:50 EST New to team Hi, I'm Amanda... I'm a married mom of 2 (1 girl age 10, one boy age 7)... I work 2 p/t jobs (down from 3).
I am wondering how people do it working full time! I feel like I can't keep up! I work 20 hours at one job and about 10 hours at the other (4-5 days total)...
I am having a lot of trouble keeping up not only with laundry and cleaning, but I'm also having to fight for the TV to do my work outs... We don't even have cable or anything! But tonight when I was getting read... Thu, 29 Apr 2010 20:30:47 EST Vacation this summer? So we're nearing the end of the school year (I'm so glad) and I was wondering if anyone has any vacation plans? I had a plan until we just got bombarded with unexpected expenses. We can probably make it work but just different than I had originally planned. I was hoping to go up to Macinaw City, MI and then spend day or two playing on Macinaw Island. Unfortunately, staying in a hotel 5 days is not going to happen, so we may just stay at my in-laws cabin which is about 2 hours from the isl... Thu, 29 Apr 2010 09:32:21 EST Hello? Is anyone out there? I was just checking to see if anyone is still active in this team?

I haven't heard from anyone in a while. Tue, 20 Apr 2010 08:18:00 EST How was your Easter? My Easter was fairly good. Could have been better. But I was with my babies and they enjoyed it so that makes everything good.

Ate some great food. Probably too much, but today is a new day.

How about you? Mon, 5 Apr 2010 07:38:39 EST Tension at work Ok, there has been sooo much tension at work the past few weeks. It made for a really longggggg day.

How do you all deal with tension in your work place?

Wish me luck for today. Fri, 2 Apr 2010 06:42:23 EST Does anyone else have an IPhone? Just wondering if any other moms have an Iphone and if you do, what are your favorite apps?

I just got my Iphone, but already I have a grocery list on it that I used yesterday and it was really nice. I liked that it kept counting down the items left on my list as I marked off the items I had already picked up.

I would love to know if anyone has an app that is more like a dayplanner than the calander that comes on the phone. Thu, 1 Apr 2010 07:06:45 EST Just a note to say "I'm BACK!" Looking forward to chatting with everyone. I missed using Spark at work.

I'm so glad that the have worked out the kinks in the computer system.

Hope it lasts! Sun, 28 Feb 2010 10:31:49 EST Valentine's Day Valentine's Day is coming. Anyone have plans with your husbands/sig. others? How about your kids? Do you do gifts for your kids on Valentine's Day? Just wondering. We don't do much. I will probably pick up a small itunes gift card for my kids, as we just had a dentist visit and there will be NO candy this year!! Mon, 8 Feb 2010 09:02:18 EST Hi I'm new! Hello everyone, I am Christine. I am a 40 year old fulltime mother of 2 and a part time massage therapist. I am doing the juggling act of work/school/afterschool activities and of course the never ending battle with my weight!! I will be checking in often in hope I can find some friendships and support from people like me!! 403 Tue, 19 Jan 2010 22:07:17 EST Snow Days We've got our first snow day of the year today. The kids are thrilled, but me, not so much! Here's what I hate - kids are unsupervised all day which means probable calls reporting who was mean to whom. My nicely ordered home will be not so orderly by the time I make it home. Food will suddenly disappear, and chores will go uncompleted. They no longer go to daycare and we don't really have better options. But, it's only one day, right?

So what do you do with your kids on snow ... Fri, 8 Jan 2010 11:52:57 EST The Holidays Hello working moms.

So, how tired are we all after Christmas? Did your kids get all they wanted? Anyone has any cute stories to tell?

My kids both got new new bed sets for their beds (comforter, sheets, etc) and they got a new computer. One to share (lap top). My son can be on it on even hours and my daughter is on it on odd hours. We got a little table that we put in our office on the wall facing the door and so now we can just go by and see what they are looking ... Wed, 30 Dec 2009 13:07:17 EST Not being able to be there My daughter is dancing at the Nutcracker production tonight and I feel really bad that I would not be able to do her hair bun for her. I know that seems like such a small detail, but she can't do it by herself yet and neither can my husband. I feel bad that I had to go to work and will not be there to help her with make up and hair. Because of this, I am so mad at everything and everybody. I am mad that I have to work, I am mad at my husband, at my boss, at my co-workers, at my life, etc. ... Wed, 23 Dec 2009 10:41:09 EST Holiday office parties How do you handle those? I just got back from mine...will blog about it in more detail, but 2 points:

1. Sat, 5 Dec 2009 22:19:36 EST Mom Get-Aways So I'm getting ready to go on a weekend escape with a group called the Manic Mommies on Thursday night. I'll be meeting up with my mom and my sister, both of whom live in a different state. We're going to Napa Valley, CA. I cannot wait!! I think my mother-in-law thinks I'm crazy to do this, but I feel like I deserve it. Anyone else do a semi-regular get away? Wed, 4 Nov 2009 09:11:25 EST One of those days when it's a bummer that I work Well, Friday is my worst work day - I have a class that runs from 9 am - 1:30 pm, and it's lecture and lab. The lab usually runs over and I usually don't finish until 2:30 (I even schedule that last hour as an office hour and just scheduled it in the lab).

Today was no different - finished up around 2 pm. Problem was, my younger daughter's Halloween parade started at 1:45. She's in the 5th grade so this isn't the biggest deal, but it's the last Halloween parade and she mentioned... I am really hoping that we can all get into our routine and schedule very fast. DD woke up at 5:00 this morning being all excited. Wed, 19 Aug 2009 09:17:03 EST Nutritio /Fitness Balance Does anybody else have trouble with the nutrition/fitness balance? I keep getting a message that says my cardio far exceeds my caloric intake. I amend the amount of cardio I do on the fitness page, assuming it's supposed to boost the amount of calories on the nutrition page. Am I missing something here? I know there's a place to amend caloric intake on the nutrition page, but how do I know how much to add? Mon, 17 Aug 2009 11:29:13 EST Anyone else can/freeze here? Mon, 17 Aug 2009 07:22:51 EST Some days I wish I didn't have to work My mother drives my daughter to her ballet classes 3 times per week and I pick her up after work. Yesterday, when I picked her up, I got so upset. All the other girls had these perfect little buns on their heads and my daughter had a silly little pony tail with hair hanging out everywhere. She looked like she did not belong to this advanced ballet class. Also, she was not able to tie her skirt very good and she said it fell off during class and she was the only one without a skirt. I fee... Wed, 12 Aug 2009 09:18:13 EST Fitting it all in Ok, until this year it has been easy to fit everything into our schedule. My dd turned 4 this summer and my husband and I are both committed to making sure she is active and learning the basics of many sports. So this fall we have signed her up for gynastics (one night) and skating (on saturday). On top of that I am trying to get fit, so that means: squash with my coworkers one day afterwork, pilates one night, and I want to get to the gym one other night to do some cardio/strength. Plus I... I am a 38 year old working mom of a 5 year old son about to start kindergarten. I'm always busy, busy, busy with work but am about to focus on my son's education. I want to lose weight too, and this is a great place to try it! I look forward to talking to you as we help each other.

Michelle 30 Tue, 14 Jul 2009 21:20:25 EST Limiting Screen Time How do you limit your kids' screen time - tv, video games, computer, etc... What are your time limits? How do you enforce it? This is something we really struggle with at our house. Not only is it not good for them to be online ALL the time, but it's a source of daily arguments in our house, too. Any suggestions are welcome! Sat, 11 Jul 2009 09:52:34 EST July!!! Hi all. I have not heard from anyone lately. How is everyone doing? Working hard? Did you all have a 3 day weekend? What did you all do for the holiday? Mon, 6 Jul 2009 18:10:23 EST I am so frustrated I really wish I didn't have to work. I have a job that's tied to the stock/bond market and some days I just can't leave because of the volume of work. It's bad enough I feel horrible trying to explain to my kids that I have to work, but now we adopted a puppy. She is very sweet and very little. Because she is so little, she can not hold her "business" for longer than 3-4 hours. Some days I just can't leave work to drive home to let her out. I am so upset about this. Maybe it's my time o... Wed, 10 Jun 2009 18:15:09 EST Cooking during the week? Since we are all working moms, I'm sure most of us come home tired during the week from work. What do you do about dinner? I like that I can change it up and do different things, so it doesn't get so boring. And I must admit...I like carrying on a conversation with my know when they tell you what a great job you are doing and you know that you aren't...I love to tell my trainer that he must be blind or stupid or both. My family thinks I am nuts. (I am sure all you other WiiFit fans totally get this) Since it has started to get warmer I have also really been enjoying ... Mon, 18 May 2009 13:27:39 EST Summer with the kids; what do you do? All of us working moms have a dilema coming up...

What do we do with the kids while they are on summer break, but we still have to work. I know that I personally would rather be at home with them, so that can make getting up to go to work during the summer a bit of a trial.

My kids will attend the after school program they go to during the school year. They are open all day during the summer for the families that use them during the school year. They have lots of ac... Wed, 13 May 2009 06:54:46 EST Any cool parenting resources you want to share? I'm always on the lookout for books, websites, podcasts, etc. for moms. I was wondering if anyone had any favorites out there that they wanted to pass on. I am a HUGE fan of the Manic Mommies ( and listen to their podcast every week. I am wondering if you could help me with a problem I am having with my son, Sam. He started out 6th grade great. He made all As on his 1st two report cards and I was so proud of him. I just could not believe it because he struggled through elementary school to even make Bs.

But, lately it seem like he does not care anymore. When do you ladies work in your workout into your routine?

I mean Mon, Tues, Wed I leave the house at 5:30am and don't really get home until 7pm. Even if dinner is takeout, we're talking close to 8pm to eat and clean up. Then there's either baths for the kids or helping with homework, or ..... a million other things. My bedtime is 10pm, so don't want to work out at 8pm because it will keep me awake.

Then on Thurs and Friday I am just exhausted. And then the weekend..... Tue, 21 Apr 2009 11:45:33 EST Hello Loris! Hey, how many Loris are here on this team? I'm one. Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:25:01 EST Children and kidney stones I was just reading an interesting news article that talks about more and more children having kidney stones, most likely due to salty diets. Tue, 24 Mar 2009 21:26:35 EST How's the economy? My workplace is "hunkered down" trying to get through what will likely be a few lean years. My husband's work situation is more unstable (but we're fine, thanks). How are you all doing? Fri, 6 Mar 2009 15:52:56 EST Road Trip My family is planning to take a road trip from TX to CA and see sights on the way. We want to stop at Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, but I am wondering what other interesting sites or cities we should visit. Since SP has so many people from all over the country, you all can give me some pointers. We will be going through New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada.

Any suggestions for any of these states? Mon, 2 Mar 2009 16:04:34 EST Kids and their appetites Olga mentioned in the "do you cook" thread that a meal that used to be enough for 2 meals is only 1 now...I've got a similar thing going on.

I have 2 girls, 9 and 10. Their appetites have recently increased significantly, but it's not consistent! Some nights they literally eat twice as much as my husband does, and others the food is nearly untouched. They're "good eaters", so it's really an appetite thing. I don't know how much to cook - each day is an adventure at this point! ... Sat, 28 Feb 2009 08:12:38 EST Hi, I'm new Not new to SP (joined at the beginning of 2009) but trying to find a team and I found you!

"Working mom" describes me perfectly. I work full-time but also have a demanding part-time job and another volunteer position that keeps me pretty busy. I've got 2 daughters (age 9 and 10) and, luckily, an EXTREMELY supportive husband or none of this would work.

Right now I'm really stressing - well, I'm *always* stressing (it's my personality) but usually the stress is something... Sat, 28 Feb 2009 07:51:41 EST cooking Usually we have leftovers a couple of nights a week. I sometimes also will declare a particular night "sandwich night". I am not a great cook so my family does not mind this at all hahaha. Thu, 26 Feb 2009 13:48:29 EST After working all day, do you cook every night? Ever since I went back to work, I have been trying to cook every other night. I have been cooking for at least 2 (sometimes 3) nights. Now, my kids are getting bigger and the meal I used to cook for 2 night is now only one time dinner. I am trying to shift my brain to cook bigger meals. But, recently, it seems I am ending up cooking every night. It's really tiring.

Do you all cook every night? Will your family eat left overs the next day? Thu, 26 Feb 2009 12:50:28 EST NEWBIE HI everyone! New to this team. Have been on Spark since last year but only recently started to be more active. Am a 37 year old Mom of two kids, ages 2 and 6. I also like the feeling of having it all - job, kids, home, etc. But, some days I really wish I didn't have to work, like today. My daughter has been coughing non stop all weekend and my plan was to take her to the doctor today. Now, since I have to work, my mother is taking her. I always feel so guilty. I feel like I can't take care of my own kids and need my mommy to help me. I don't like this feeling. Even though my parents love taking care of the kids and mis...
