Thu, 31 May 2018 07:35:45 EST Getting Fit I really let myself go when my wife was battling cancer and for the months following her death nearly a year ago. I realized that wasn’t honouring her memory nor was it fair to my children. Since January seventh I have lost 16 pounds, go to the gym about four times a week and do four miles on the treadmill and lift weights every second day. I’m also taking a fitness class, have joined a church where I teach an adult Sunday school class and tutor at the library. I am also taking a universi... Fri, 16 Feb 2018 06:37:17 EST Prostate and Saw Palmetto I've been taking this stuff for years, you know, 'just in case'. I thought, what can it hurt? Well, I'm about out and since I remember seeing some articles over the last three years that question whether it does anything to help anything, I thought I'd look again. Here's the most recent article I found from a "reliable" source. Now just in case and frittering away money is one thing, but check out the side effects...

lmetto-and-th... Hey men - just wondering what your plan is for the upcoming festivities.
Do you allow yourself to indulge for a day at a time? How do you get back on track afterwards?
For me, I know that I will partake in a bit of overindulgence on Thanksgiving and Christmas knowing full well that the following day I will have to get back in my regular routine and not allow one day of celebration turn into two, then a week and, ultimately a "what-the-hell-I'll-start-in-the-new-year" rationalizatio... Sun, 15 Nov 2015 07:56:21 EST Glad to be part of a peacful group... For me it's great to be in a group that doesn't chatter away about emoticons or word associations! Don't get me wrong...I'm stoked about Sparkpeople. I used this website about four years ago. I lost weight, lowered blood pressure, and enjoyed the community of the website while I was on. After a couple of rough years I've put the pounds back on and found my way back here to start the process again. As for the group I hope you guys reach your goals and enjoy the results of your efforts. Thu, 24 Sep 2015 11:58:51 EST Calisthe ics/Body Weight Exercise Has anyone here considered/done calisthenics? Hello.

I have a question, really aimed at the subset of you who (1) seek to lose weight and not just maintain; and (2) work out in the early AM before work.

Here it is: do you eat first? Tue, 25 Mar 2014 20:35:35 EST Do you feel pressured to lose weight? There's a lot of chatter about women and body image so I was wondering if men experience being overweight in the same way.
When you see guys on "Men's Health" and other fitness magazines, does a voice in your head tell you that they have ideal bodies.
If you're not aware of "marketing" pressure to be thinner, what about from family? I FINALLY KNEW I HAD TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT WHEN...

I went to my doctor just after my 47th birthday and found that I was 244 pounds and my blood pressure and cholesterol were in the danger zone. Sun, 19 Jan 2014 10:26:58 EST Hello Hello,

I've been here before about 6 years ago I lost about 30 lbs on SP. Last year I realized that I had gained it back. Since then I've dropped 12 of it but it was hit and miss. I'm finally back on track logging my food and sticking to my calorie goals. I'd like to lose 20 more lbs and I believe this time I can keep at it. Tue, 14 Jan 2014 08:36:53 EST Holiday Plans? What are your strategies for the holidays? This year I finally figured out that it's not really the holidays that make me balloon up, it's what I eat before and after the holidays. I usually start pigging out from October through the end of the year because "I'm going to gain weight anyway" but this holiday season so far Thanksgiving Day was my only bad day, and otherwise I've been eating what I normally eat. It's worked very well so far. Sat, 21 Dec 2013 18:23:58 EST Glad I found you guys I know what you mean about weight loss groups being overrun with women. I have been in WW and TOPS and have been the only man most of the time. I hope to get some good info and support from this group! Glad I found you guys! I am in High Ridge, MO which is west of St. Louis. Look forward to engaging in good conversations! I'm 160-lbs (5'8" medium frame), and lost over 50-lbs this winter. That said, I still have what I'd estimate is 5-lbs of fat around my abs. I can see the muscles but there's a layer of "squish" still.

I'm running 4-6 days a week (4-5miles) and doing strength training 3-4 days a week. For my strength, it's a mix of crunches, twisting crunches, 25-lb curls, flies, push-ups, p... Thu, 9 Jun 2011 22:52:46 EST hello everyone, so now what? haha Hi my name is Rick, I am from Toronto. I am NEW here so be gentle with me : ) I'd like to talk to like-minded people who I have things in common with, get in shape, and maybe go for some bike rides (for those local to me). Drop me a line anytime. Cheers, love and rocknroll. Tue, 7 Jun 2011 15:26:02 EST Protein Supplement??? Please HELP! So far I Believe I am doing great with my strength and weight training but I've been feeling off lately. I look at what I have been eating and Notice that I have been just barely making my daily minimum amount of protein needs. Considering all the strength and weight Training I have been doing, I thought (and read) that it might be best to get a protein supplement of some sort to balance thing out for myself. Problem is that I have never bought a protein supplement in my life!

If a... Mon, 6 Jun 2011 17:46:18 EST Thank GOD FOR THIS TEAM! Hey dudes I just joined this team! WOOT! and I'm really glad to be here. It felt really awkward looking at other blogs and people's post just to find out it's all about their menstrual cycle (no offense to women, But there is just no way we can relate to that lol).

I'm 25, And I do need to loss some weight but I am mainly concerned with building muscle. OK, so I'm 66 and former military, weigh 165 or so, and walk or ride my bike nearly daily. (I avoid my car in favor of mass transit). So I've believed I'm in pretty good shape.

Today I took the four simple fitness tests on the SP site and got a real wakeup:

Pushups -- I could do 20 which was "good" on the chart for my age
Crunchs -- I could not do even one using the technique described - worse than bad.
Step test -- 123 beats in first minute of recovery -- "p... Sun, 29 May 2011 15:51:15 EST Chante Frank: Who Am I? I am 23 years of age. I have have joined SparkPeople in hopes of losing the extra weight I have gained and learning to keep it off. I want a new healthy living so that I can be a role model to my family, who are also unhealthy in many ways. As a family we suffer from high blood pressure, asthma, overweight, bad eating habits and laziness. However, I feel that if one person takes the initiative, everyone else will get in the game. I am excited for the outcome. Can't wait to meet my goals!!! Fri, 27 May 2011 15:20:06 EST I think I need a new scale I've been using one of the older style scales from HO Medics. Lately I've noticed that my weight changes if I get off then get back on again. Now I don't trust the scale and I realize this has undermined my whole view on my daily regimen. It amazes me how such a seemingly insignificant item can have such an effect - or rather - how I let it have such an effect. What's worse is I've let this go on for a couple of weeks.

Time for a new scale and get a handle on my real weight! Sat, 21 May 2011 08:42:15 EST Hello Hey guys,

New here to SP. I was on a different weight loss site, but that one said it was closing and this seemed like a good alternative. Now that I've tooled around the site a bit, I think this one will be better. It's good to find a men's group, most things here (and the other site) seem dominated by women. I can't wait until I can pick up the weights again, but that realistically won't be for another 6-9 months. I snapped my humerus (upper arm bone) in half at the beginning of ... It's great because I don't have to travel - especially in this nasty weather. It's a hassle because there's a full fridge and cupboard so I have to be more aware of snacking and portions, and it's an opportunity to get more exercise in!! Mon, 7 Mar 2011 07:45:07 EST Intake of protein??? When I used a stationary trainer or biked on roads where there wasn't much traffic I'd listen to music that had an uptempo beat. I remember this as being very helpful. Now I'm in search of new music with the same uptempo beat but different from the classic rock I used to listen to. Caribbean, swing, modern, anything new that the young people are listening to. Suggestions? Sat, 26 Feb 2011 11:37:50 EST Where'd your forum name come from? I'm always curious.

Mine comes from my love of the outdoors and some time I've spent working with environmental groups. Plus the fact that I had a handlebar mustache at one time. I was dubbed lorax in an offhand quip by someone and it sort of stuck - or maybe I just liked it. I also live in Vermont and Lorax was too short so there you have it. Sat, 26 Feb 2011 09:26:46 EST Crossfit I'm starting at the local Crossfit on March 1st. I went to an open house yesterday, did a quick intro and by 15 minutes was in the bathroom, on the floor dry heaving and feeling sorta yucky. I was thinking "no way" but after I got home and spoke with my wife I e-mailed the owner and said sign me up. I need a kick in the butt, some accountability, and something different. We'll see how it goes! Fri, 25 Feb 2011 23:59:10 EST Weight Training Right now I'm on the hunt for a set of 20# dumbbells to use for curls, rowing, and what I vaguely remember called flys (on back on a bench, slight bend in the elbows and lifting the weights from below the chest on both sides, up till they touch above my chest). It's a bit of muscle building but more muscle toning for the upper body. Anyone else using weights? This is going to be a rough year but I see that a lot of you guys lost more than the 50lbs I'm shooting for in the same time period so I know I can do it.

fp Sat, 1 Jan 2011 01:54:40 EST hello from texas my name is jose and i just joined this page.

my goal is to get down to 200# by the end of may 2011 by trying 1800-2000 calories. wish me luck. Thu, 30 Dec 2010 18:22:29 EST Here's the deal with me: I am currently 190-ish and my goal is 180. That said I have made significant muscle gains since I picked up the weight. However, along with the gains have come some poundage around my waist. Six months I had NO VISIBLE love handles and now I have two little barely being able to handle, love handles. Noticable nontheless and that's bothersome.

I know how to lose the 10 pounds but don't want to lose any of my gains. I DO want my "V" back (my back use to have that classic "V" shape) b... Mon, 27 Dec 2010 06:55:53 EST Hello, please help Hello to all my fellow Sparkpeople menfolk.
I am restarting my program today after spending about a year on weight watchers. The question I have for all of you is this. After following the plan for 11 months, and going to the gym several times each week, I only lost 11 pounds. Doctor says meds I am taking will not effect my weight loss. He also says he will check thyroid. Does anyone out there have this problem, or possible thyroid condition? And what did you do to correct it? thanks Sun, 26 Dec 2010 18:09:12 EST ITS NOT JUST FOR GIRLS Hey everybody! Hope you are all doing well!!
LOVING the pics and the progress keep it up!!
Rachel macs progress pic team/challange is amazing but I am worried some of the men on the site might feel it is just for the girls and it shouldn't be. I am working to control that by remembering that one day at a time is all I can do. Evaluating my feelings that cause me to want to eat. Asking "Why are do you want to eat?” Acknowledging that I do not want to eat because I am hungry. I am on a journey to change my behavior. I must deal with the reason(s) and the emotion(s) because they will still be there if I eat or do not eat.

As an emotional eater, I know the comfort I have got... Sat, 13 Nov 2010 12:07:03 EST Hi! I'm new Hi! My name is Tim. I'm new to SP! I enjoy meeting a bunch of other people who are also on a journey to get fit. I have lost 40lbs so far this year with an at home workout program and a meal replacement shake (not slim fast..I don't like that stuff). My goal is to lose 30 more pounds. I am sticking with my home workout programs since it works really well for me and a bunch of my friends! I love to meet new people who are also getting fit!! Message me. Sat, 6 Nov 2010 19:29:34 EST Hi! Hello I am a missionary in Mexico. I have been on and off spark for about a year now. Hoping to get more plugged in to make it stick. Planning on loosing 50+ pounds. Sat, 16 Oct 2010 19:31:29 EST Best Chest/Arm Builder Exercises I'll ask this question here because I don't want to join a lifting group just to ask a question... I am primarily a runner. My boss is a former football player and got me into lifting last year, but due to various things that have us both busy, we haven't been able to make it to the gym for 6 months or more. What kind of exercises can I do at home without weights - or with simple 8-23lbs free weights - that can help me build my chest and arms? I hate looking like a scrawny runner, and I w... We are each responsible for one meal on the trip. While I can control my meal there are going to 6 meals that I have no control over. Since I am fairly new here I am not sure if I should just guesstimate the calories that I am consuming or try to bring my own food. I think that it will be tough to cook my own meals separately since we are sharing cooking equipment. Any suggestions? Fri, 24 Sep 2010 12:30:22 EST Hoodia Gordonii Any thoughts on this supplement (if it is a supplement - I am not sure)? It is in the protein shakes I have for breakfast and lunch. Good week this week, dropped another 2 lbs, and I'm definitely feeling some changes in how my clothes are fitting. Not yet down a pants size, but I am occasionally (depending on how much I've drank, and the position of the moon and stars) tightening my belt 1 extra notch. That is a good feeling!.

Keeping on with the EASA 30-day challenge workouts. Today will be day 8. Great thing is that ... Sat, 21 Aug 2010 13:30:10 EST Muscle Women Just curious to what most men think of women with weight lifter bodies. Turn on or turn off? Fri, 6 Aug 2010 15:06:17 EST HI. So, I am 48 turning 49 soon, about 50 pounds heavier than I should be. I found a lot of success from an online community for cancer surviors and hope that this will work for weight loss. I'm not on "vacation", but my in-laws are in town and they have TERRIBLE eating habits. YEsterday was their first day here and I ate way more than I should have. How do the rest of you deal with/handle eating while on vacation? Wed, 4 Aug 2010 07:18:35 EST Quick Intro Hi, stumbled onto Spark back in March when they created the Android app. The whole networking thing here looked totally dominated by women, so I never really explored it much. But I like how Spark makes it easy to keep track of your food intake so I stuck around. Today I stumbled onto this team; it's good to know there are actually other men here.

Anyway, I'm not looking to become a body builder or run a marathon or anything like that. Combining the benefits of a low carb diet plan with periodic days of carb loading is one of the most effective ways to lose weight and keep it off. To most weight loss beginners, carb cycling seems too complex and confusing. Here is a simple plan that will give you all the weight loss advantages carb cycling can offer.

Why Low Carb?

Low carb is defined as a diet that contains 30% or less of carbohydrates. We tend to associate calories with food, but they apply to anything containing energy. For example, a gallon (about 4 liters) of gasoline contains about 31,000,000 calories.
Specifically, a calorie is the amount of energy, or heat, it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). One calorie is equal to 4.184 joules, a common unit of energy used in the physical sciences.

Mos... Thu, 15 Jul 2010 23:09:11 EST Road Trip!! Thu, 8 Jul 2010 23:29:27 EST Best Cardio Dvds? Ok, so I've basically come to the conclusion that those Beachbody Insanity dvds, while great cardio workouts, are just too hard on my knees: way too much jumping!

This thread can be for any workout dvd recommendations, but what I'm looking for in particular are some high calorie burning, but relatively low impact workout dvds.

Recommendations? Thu, 1 Jul 2010 23:02:53 EST You guys tried Beachbody Insanity DVDs? Friend of mine gave me a set. Just tried the plyometrics cardio circuit routine. Pretty intense for a home dvd workout. 40 minute routine and I was pretty drenched in sweat.

Not bad to pull out on a day when you go over your calorie range to knock off a few hundred calories. I'd guess I burned around 500-600 or so.

Whether I'd pay full price, I don't know, but its a pretty good workout. I'll try out the other routines over the next few weeks. Tue, 29 Jun 2010 23:50:30 EST falling off the wagon on the weekends It seems like it is much easier for me at least to follow through with my goals Mon-Thurs then it is over the weekend. It seems like I eat more/exercise less on the weekends. Obviously I could reach my goals much faster if I could work on them 7 days a week vs 4. Does anyone else have the same problem if tracking food, eating appropriate calories during the week, and then overeating on weekends? thanks! Mon, 28 Jun 2010 21:16:15 EST New to group I've been using the spark system for a little over a month. I see that most of the tips in the weight loss community are aimed at women, so its nice to see that this group exists. I've already gotten some great support from a couple of guys on the site.

I started out 5'9 - 238 - size 40 pants. Wed, 23 Jun 2010 20:47:22 EST Had a Successful Week Despite Myself Hi everyone. I've been back on the SP system about 2 weeks now. As I expected, I have been very bad about tracking all my food, water intake, etc on the nutrition tracker. I feel guilty about this.

However, I did do it for a couple days, and I think it helped give me a feel for how I should be eating to create a calorie deficit. I also started working out again. As of today,I've lost about 6 pounds since I started!! Yeah me.

I do want to try to get into a more regu... Thu, 17 Jun 2010 12:53:22 EST Focus on the legs Ok, another tidbit that makes sense to me. When you're starting back into getting in shape after gaining a lot of weight: focus on the legs. We're carrying around a lot of pounds: the stronger your legs are, the easier everything else gets: like going up and down stairs. But beyond the specifics, strong legs makes it much easier to carry our loads. I'm not saying ignore the upper body, just give the legs some extra attention! Sat, 12 Jun 2010 14:27:26 EST Favourite Gym Classes Ok, so I'm one of those guys who doesn't do great working out alone. Whether its hitting the weights, or jumping on a bike, I just don't push myself to my fullest. I need someone egging me on. So the last four weeks I've dusted off that gym membership and have been doing classes at the gym 4-5 times a week. My body is in better shape than its been in years, and every day I feel the muscles and flexibility coming back! Here are the main ones I do:

Spinning: the ultimate wor... Sat, 12 Jun 2010 12:56:51 EST Hello I joined SP last year, but have not stuck with it. I'm disappointed in myself...I had originally hoped to be at my goal weight by now, but have actually gained 5 lbs since last Fall. I need to lose 30 lbs.

I'm struggling to find the best way to use the tools and programs on the site. I don't particularly like tracking my calories and fitness on the system -- it feels cumbersome to me. Hello.

I've lost significant weight twice before... and gained it back each time. I remember marveling at how easy it was to stick to my eating plan when I got "in the zone". It defies logic as to why it's so difficult to GET in the zone.

I've read several sp home pages and got inspired by the before/after photos and stories. It worked for so many people, I hope this can help me get into "the zone".

I set up my spark account back in January but got overw... Wed, 2 Jun 2010 15:44:53 EST My Introduction.... (head down in shame...) Hey Guys, I'm back after about a 2 yr absence. Nice to see some familiar names (Hey MT!)

So after losing over 30 lbs, especially with the help of this forum, I entered a pretty stressful period of my life. Work stress. Couple more kids. My wife had a pregnancy with complications that had her basically bed ridden for over 6 months, etc. etc. etc. Long and short of it: I stopped counting my calories, started stress eating again, and gained it all back with interest.

... Mon, 17 May 2010 18:30:20 EST Not New...but... well I am not new, but it's been so long I feel that I am. I am 30 years old, and my wife and I have a 5 month old boy. I have tried a lot of diets and have not succeeded with the weight loss. I saw a video of me from just a couple days ago and my jaw dropped. i didn't realize I was that big! My goals are to lose weight and build muscle as well as to get more active. Thu, 8 Apr 2010 23:02:29 EST So what INSPIRES you? If you run a search engine on "inspiration vs motivation" you'll get the full discourse that is the internet. Rather than prompt another iteration of philosophical hoo-hah over the difference, I'll leave it up to you to research (or not). However, I found I could muster up short-term motivation but needed inspiration to come back to SparkPeople and exercise after my last hiatus.

Remember Curly from the movie City Slickers?

Curly: You know what the secret of life is? <B... My name is Steve from MO, and I've been on SparkPeople for about a month. I had been searching for a "guys only" group for a while and I'm glad I finally stumbled upon it.

A little background, I have been losing weight over the last year from 280 to 220. When people ask how I did it, my answer is "a healthy mix of diet, stress, and diabetes". My diabetes was only diagnosed about a month ago so I am still in somewhat in shock and pissed about it. Although I have been ea... Wed, 31 Mar 2010 13:51:35 EST The backwards slip Hey fellas..

So I have been working out/eating healthier for over a month now. I have seen my weight go from 244, all the way down to 236. I was stoked. But I also notice that on the weekends I'm more lax, and even go out for a night of drinking (and ultimately late night snacks).

As I mentioned previously, I really don't enjoy weight lifting. I'm trying. So I have a couple questions for you all:

1) Have you noticed yourself slide before? IE - you're doing goo... Tue, 30 Mar 2010 22:27:05 EST Sleep... How do you get enough? Just wondering how you all manage to get enough sleep (if you do) in today's busy world...

I find I have a hard time getting more than 4-6 hours of sleep a night, and I know that is not helping me achieve my weight and health goals. I think my main problem is my children. I have 3 kids and my DW works full time too, so I don't seem to have any alone time. I get home from work and immediately (it seems) I'm hauling kids here and there, or helping with homework, or enforcing rules an... Mon, 29 Mar 2010 15:52:58 EST Hello Been on for about a month - still trying to figure all of this out. Hoping this will keep me motivated to loose some weight and keep exercising. Would really like to get in shape before summer starts. Colorado here. Sun, 28 Mar 2010 16:36:20 EST Wow.. glad to see it! Hey all. My name is Mike. I'm 28, will be 29 this year and the idea of the countdown scares me. I've always been overweight to varying degrees. Years ago when I was dating this particular chick who was all into eating out, I was up to 270 and not in good shape in the slightest.

Since we broke up I've stuck in the 235-255 range, when I really want to get down to 220 or so. I met my last GF (who was really, really cute.. and was pretty awesome for a while) when I had been lifting wei... Thu, 25 Mar 2010 00:29:27 EST A place for MEN! Hey guys,

My name is Bill,

This is my second round here on SP.
I need to lose about 30 lbs by July.
Does anyone have any good ideas for weight loss rewards?
All I can find is lists of "buy yourself something pretty, or go get a pedicure"....I need something a little more manly to motivate me.
Please help!!!!! Fri, 19 Mar 2010 17:20:41 EST Wellness Programs I also posted this on the ONE FOR THE GUYS team Discussion Forum, so apologies for cross-posting annoyance......

I read a good article 'Take Your Meds, Exercise - And Spend Billions' in the Feb 15, 2010 issue of Business Week.

It was an interesting piece on how the industry of Wellness Programs have influenced corporations'/governments' spending/savings on health care. General Electric in North Carolina tried it in the 1990s and pulled out because they saw no savings. T... Wed, 17 Mar 2010 09:13:30 EST Old newbie - back this time for some Pilates Well, like some of you I have returned after some time away. I did not post on DAY1, but today was DAY2. Two days in a row counts as a start (one day is a fluke!). So here's my howdy!

My take on it this time is a very simple focus: core strength. I've had intermittent back "issues" for awhile and one round of Pilates made my back feel better (who knew?). So my second was today and I felt it, but it felt good.

Any men trying Pilates? I checked my ego at the done-lap... Tue, 16 Mar 2010 22:47:43 EST 2010 Olympic Men's Challenge Here's the scoop. This will be a Topic that can be posted to Daily, Weekly, or even Monthly. It's up to the person. It will be a place for encouragement, overall commentary, BUT MOSTLY for check-ins. Here is what will be done. I'll keep a spreadsheet done weekly that will track usernames to check-ins. Percentages from base check-in will determine the 'Gold', 'Silver', 'Bronze' in each tracked measurement.

Here are the 'Events' what we will track (just track those you want):
1.... I have been a member since 2006 but I kind of took a 3 year break. During that time I gained a bunch of weight and fell back into a sedentary lifestyle. I have been back since Jan. 3rd and I've been doing well. I am an elementary school educator, married with two children (girls 3 & 10), and I love geocaching, technology, and Disneyworld. I belong to teams for all of those other things, and now I found a team that h... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 19:11:07 EST New and Ready to go I'm new to the team and it actually took me some time to find it. Lots of teams for the ladies not so much for guys.

In any case I have been playing around on the site for about 2 weeks now and have begun to become a little more serious about this.

As most of you probably are I am somewhat time starved. I have 4 kids work 2 jobs (60/week total) and when I have down time I like to veg.

I have become more serious about my health and diet simply because my... Tue, 2 Feb 2010 12:50:30 EST Is There Anything Good About Men? This is a longish article by internet standards, probably 15 minutes to read. It approaches some of the common (negative) stereotypes about men and the role men play in societies.
Regardless of your politics, it's a very thoughtful read.

aboutmen.htm
Sat, 23 Jan 2010 01:48:40 EST Podcasts and Fitness I recently started listening to a podcast called the Biggest Loser Fan podcast. It is available on iTunes or . I find it helpful to listen to podcasts to keep my focus on fitness but I am wondering if any of you have suggestions for other podcasts that are insightful and help keep the focus on fitness and health. Let me know. Wed, 20 Jan 2010 21:55:25 EST Trying to stop late night eating - need help Hello everyone,
I have been on program for 3 weeks now, and am really having a tough time with late night eating. It doesn't matter if I finished eating dinner late or early, my head is always telling me I am hungry and up into the cabinet or frig I go. Can you give me some pointers on how to stop doing this, or ideas to make better choices? The grazing method is really counterproductive at this point, and I really need your help. Thanks.

Paul Sun, 17 Jan 2010 09:59:15 EST Exercise Music I always have toruble putting together a play list to get me moving. Ant the exercises will change as I advance.

Has anyone out there used this tool and if so how have you documented it use within Sparkpeople? Tue, 12 Jan 2010 11:12:53 EST New Member There are not many guys in sparkpeople. I'm tryin to loser weight for my own health, but also because my brother is 330+ lbs. and I hope that if I can go from close to 300lbs. to 185 I can inspire him. He just had twin girls less than a year ago and he needs to be able to do for them. Wed, 6 Jan 2010 19:21:04 EST Starting over again Hello all, been on sparkpeople for almost 2 years, but have been on and off, here and there and never really took it seriously. Found this Mens group which is a nice change, seems like everything you see is mostly women related as far as message boards and blogs go. It will be nice to find others with the same challenges that we have.

I am 40 years old, married with 2 great kids. This surgery has kind of rekindled the motivation, anyone else out there have a similar type of situation with some words of advise? Sat, 28 Nov 2009 22:55:18 EST I have a question Its been along time since I've been on here. I've actually gained all my weight back. My problem is that when I fall off the wagon I start drinking and drinking and drinking soft drink after soft drink after soft drink. I've been told and I've said this to other people before and that is "All you have to do is to choose not to drink those soft drinks or to lose weight, its that simple." Is it really that simple? For me it has not been that simple. I'm at a loss at what to do. I would li... Wed, 25 Nov 2009 14:37:47 EST Calories needed and how to calculate??? Hey Guys,

After being totally inundated with informatio overload from this site, I simply want to know where I can calculate based on my height and weight how many calories I SHOULD be eating to maintain and then how to calculate a realistic deficit in order to safely lose 2-3 lbs. a week. I got trounced. A bad day. Mon, 16 Nov 2009 09:44:48 EST We're all in this together Hey everybody. Just found this site and it seems supportive and unique. I want to introduce myself. I've been on this 20 year rollercoaster trip gaining more each time I lose a bit. Was at my top weight of 355 and during October and 1/2 of November, I was able to shed about 18 lbs. through determination and portion control. Hope to be 185 or so by 1/30/2011 for my son's 14th bday. Thanks for the support! Dave Sun, 15 Nov 2009 21:51:20 EST It's just good to be back with goals It's been a long time since I posted here and it's good to be back. I found a goal that should help focus and intensity. I ran my 1st marathon with a gazillion mistakes (see blog)resulting in a lot of pain. Henceforth, I've resolved to do another marathon the correct way with the educated plan and commitment. Anyone up for their 1st or 2nd marathon?
The avoidance of pain sure can be a motivator:-! Wed, 4 Nov 2009 21:31:48 EST The guy with many names...
