I have never been that good at recording my food and Sparkpeople has made that alot easier to keep up with. I have been exercising over the years, but I am really trying to step it up this time. Over 50 and its time to take control of my health. This program may be what I need to get it right this time. Any helpful hints?? I'm 62, single and have at least 70 pounds to lose. I would like to lose 15 by Christmas, but that seems unrealistic. I had a very sluggish metabolism and radiation did in what was left of the remaining metabolism. The cancer was the rarest of the rare so I have much of which to be thankful. I am four years out of the radiation and am blessed. So many friends have not been as fortunate. However, this is very vain, but the extra weight gets me ... Mon, 21 Sep 2009 22:44:12 EST Sp changed my calorie intake?? So I looked the other day at my calorie intake and SP has upped it by about 200 calories minimum. Why does it do that and did it happen automatically?
I know at the bottom of my fitness page it keeps saying to change something b/c im exceeding my calories burned but i really dont trust the sp calorie burn total that it says, i really just use it to log my fitness. I'm confused though why my calories would be increased if im trying to lose! ? Wed, 16 Sep 2009 13:28:44 EST And how are you doing? I've been challenging myself through vacations, illnesses, back to school (a teacher), family death, family issues but I'm here! haven't lost tons but a little at a time is good. I have been logging food and workouts. I think I am doing things right, but for now am stuck, weight-wise. Not losing a thing, that is. Just staying at the SAME WEIGHT. I'm tired of it and have been getting discouraged. Any advice on working through plateaus or how long it takes to really lose weight when doing cardio plus weight training would be much appreciated. Sun, 16 Aug 2009 00:26:12 EST A slow start June 30 was my start date with SP. Since then I've been on a 10 day vacation and I gained a little weight. As of today though I have lost a total of 2.3 pounds. No more vacations for a while! I'm committed though and I feel like I'm finally doing everything right. I know there are a lot of big losers here, but I want to encourage those slow losers like me, don't give up. the pounds will eventually come off! Thu, 16 Jul 2009 15:27:20 EST JoAn from NEIowa - goal to weigh 142 by October 13 Hi - I am new to this. I lost five pounds recently at work when we had a weight loss competition (now ended). That seemed to motivate me more than anything I have tried on my own. I was very excited to loose (just) five pounds. I have either gained some of it back or hit a plateau already. I really do not snack and eat pretty healthy. I think one main thing is to get more active - I have a desk job! I don't think I burn too many calories, but I don't really eat much either. I've been looking for that "spark" that gets me focused on my health and fitness - and am very excited to find I'm a bit of an "information junkie" when I'm new to something, so I've been busy exploring the website and getting used to the tools. After only a few days I am feeling better - more energy - and even clothes fitting better. I have a long way to go, but I am thinking positive about my health for the first time in many years. Thanks for the spark! Fri, 10 Jul 2009 00:35:56 EST Just getting started Hi! I joined spark a week ago, but I've made major changes in my lifestyle in the past six weeks. Good luck to everyone. Sun, 5 Jul 2009 20:06:51 EST looking to lose 50 Hey! I'm a little late in introducing myself... but that's ok I guess! I've been in school the last 4 years, put on 20 unwanted pounds on top of the 15 extra I was already carrying. Now I'm ready to graduate, and get married and it's time to concentrate on getting this weight off. I'm in need of help, I've been struggling with the same 5 pounds for 6 months. I'm going to start actually tracking my caloric intake (ugh) and calories spent and see if I can figure out what's going on. :)
<B... Sun, 28 Jun 2009 13:11:39 EST New Member from Arkansas Hello, my name is Carie and I am a single mother of two beautiful kids living in Arkansas. I do everything for my little ones and decided it was time to do something for myself.

I am doing this to be a healtier person and a better role model for my kids. I discovered this site through a magazine and was impressed with it.

I look forward to getting to know you all and working toward my goals.

Carie Sun, 28 Jun 2009 12:54:13 EST Hiya :) Hello everyone. I'm new(ish)...I had an account previously but never got anywhere with it. I have very little self-discipline, and I think accountability is what's been lacking from all of my previous attempts. Having to check in with others on the same journey seems like the ideal way to stay motivated, so please bear with me.

I'm 22, a daycare worker and aspiring writer, happily married, and seriously over weight. I hate the way I look and feel; I have no energy and my nails, sk... Sun, 28 Jun 2009 12:18:30 EST Brand New! Aloha! I'm brand new to SparkPeople and wanted to say hello! Teacher, Senior adult (very youngish!), need to lose 50 pounds safely by my birthday in January. That translates into a safe rate of about 1-2 pounds per week. But I know this will be a real challenge for me because I am not very disciplined. My schedule is one of my worst enemies. I need to slow down, take time for good me... Have you seen the water counter in the Nutrition Log? Sufficient water intake is crucial. Try for 8 8oz glasses minimum and reach for 10 this week if you can!

Personally it was a bit overwhelming to think of 8 glasses of water. With a 16oz glass (I measured) it's only 4 times to fill up and less intimidating.

Adding lemon not only alkalizes the body but provides a refreshing snap.

Check back in and post if you meet the challenge!
