We are very ready to adopt. However, we are having a hard time deciding which type of adoption is right for us - fost adopt, international, domestic. We went to an informational session at an agency, and the info was great, but it led to more indecision o... Thu, 22 Sep 2011 22:00:25 EST Failed adoption and getting over the heart break The last few months have been very difficult for both me and my husband. We were selected to adopt a beautiful baby boy, spent the first three days of his life bonding with him and on the fourth day his birth mother changed her mind. We are still not sure if he will be going to rehab but right now h... Mon, 19 Sep 2011 13:19:13 EST Not new but re-introducing I am re-introducing myself to the team today. I don't remember the last time I was on SparkPeople in a serious way. I would click in here and there but I have not been really working the program for months. The scale shows it but more importantly my attitude shows it. I don't feel good about what I'm eating. I don't like how I look and feel about myself as a result. I am becoming more and more critical of my appearance and connecting my self-worth to my appearance more and more. I feel less s... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 20:59:13 EST Home Study completed and approved!!! Wow, finally we have a completed home study. It arrived in the mail over the weekend and I immediately had a rush of emotions. We are in the process to adopt. After a difficult pregnancy (extreme "morning" sickness, placenta previa, low amniotic fluid, failed scheduled induction leading to emergency c-section) that thankfully ended with a healthy baby girl, my DH and I decided that we would probably not consider trying again for another biological child. Still wanted to grow our family, we quickly settled on adoption.

After waiting to the "right" time, we begin getting serious about beginning the adoption... Sun, 9 Jan 2011 13:55:48 EST Hi from northern NY Hi! I'm mom to 5 kids and wife to a great guy. All of our children are adopted from foster care and all have some unique behavioral and/or emotional challenges because of their histories of abuse and neglect. Wed, 5 Jan 2011 13:27:25 EST Starting again Last night Mer and I started the application for adoption through the Baptist Children's home. We are trying for an infant this time. We want a girl but Josh wants a boy so we are going to let the universe decide. Josh seems to be having mixed feelings about it, sometimes he is happy because "the focus will be off me." but his attitude is pretty ambivalent bordering on negative. I can't blame him because of course his adoption was just finalized a few months ago, but knowing how long it w... Sun, 2 Jan 2011 15:24:34 EST Challenge - Week 1 Let's get back to basics. Mon, 13 Dec 2010 13:46:34 EST "Real" family My son has taken to referring to members of his biological family as his "real _____." I realize at age 15 there isn't a lot of attention paid to semantics but I cringe every time I hear it. The other day he said something about his real aunt and I commented, "Mary and Jenn are real too." Last night I heard him telling his friend he was texting his real mom. I wanted to cry. I feel like the Velveteen Rabbit, I'm waiting to be a real mom. Of course he has to differentiate in some way or ... J. has been diagnosed with ADHD, Conduct Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and ODD. The only one I don't agree with 100% is Conduct Disorder. When we got J. last year he was going into the 8th grade for a second time. We knew very little about him and spent most of the school year trying to feel him out and figure out what he needed in terms of school and structure. At the end of the year J. was in danger of ... Sun, 1 Aug 2010 21:14:50 EST Talking to your child Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has had the talk about adoption yet with their child. Bobby is 5 and I know he will pick up on things people say in front of him and I don't plan on deceiving him in anyway. Even if i had wanted to, his birth certificate says "found at..." instead of birthplace, and weight unknown. But, I would want to be truthful anyway. Right now he believes babies are made in Heaven. The other day he told me he would like me to have a baby. When I asked why... Fri, 30 Jul 2010 10:19:36 EST Greetings from CT! Hi Everyone! I'm new to Sparkpeople and have been dieting for two weeks. We began as foster parents and Bobby was our third placement. The social worker keptsaying "don't get attached, he'll be going soon" - but how could we not? He looked like a little red headed... Thu, 29 Jul 2010 17:35:30 EST Prometrium?? A couple of days ago, I had an appointment with my OB-GYN. She's put me on Prometrium in hopes to get my cycle going. She also has referred me over to a specialist, as my "case" is out of her scope (I haven't had a period in YEARS, and last time I took Provera, it didn't make me bleed). If any of you have any experience with Prometrium, I'd appreciate it if you feel like sharing it with me. You can message me if you don't want to post it here.

(I had posted a blog about this, and ... I'm Kim and my story is too long to share but I'll give you a little bit. I am the mother of three active children, so I should really be skinny, right?!! My two youngest are adopted and they have been placed with our family from birth. As most of you know and can probably relate, creating our family has been extremely difficult, and full of roller coaster rides. I'm not sure, looking back, how I had the strength to keep going during most of it. But I'm so glad I did. ... Thu, 18 Mar 2010 18:57:20 EST Extremely active toddlers I'm wondering if anyone else has a toddler that is extremely active? It is effecting how we live our lives. Fri, 4 Sep 2009 18:00:09 EST Heartbreaking decision Well, it all started when we received a call that our 2 year old adopted daughter's bio mom had another baby. They asked us if we would be interested in adopting her also. We said absolutely, first, because she is a bio sibling and second, our 2 year old has 4 other siblings she has never met and I hate the thought that they are all over the place adopted in various different counties. The baby was only 3 weeks old but in a different county. This held things up in red tape until she was 4 mon... Thu, 3 Sep 2009 16:21:38 EST We're finalizing too!! Yesterday was Mother's Day and it was the 1 yr anniversary from my grandmother's passing away so it was kind of an odd day all around. Needless to say it wasn't relaxing it was a crazier then ever day and none of the kids could be calm. All that aside at 5:30pm we got a phone call stating that the Foster kids we have that their mom never confirmed for her visit for Monday today.... Mon, 11 May 2009 08:05:31 EST It's Official! My daughter and I adopted one another this morning!

It has been a harrowing week though. She was acting out all week. It took me until last night to figure out why. At first, I thought it was her testing to see if I was serious about keeping her (she lived with one family for a couple years then decided not to adopt her). It wasn't that at all... subconsciously, she was "hoping" that I would give her back so that she could live with her birth parents again. We've talked a lot ... We have been visiting them once a week and hoping that they would be moving in with us sometime in May. We have to get our license complete. We are waiting on the Health Dept. to come and inspect the house. I was thinking that they would be here sometime by the end of the month and I don't think our agency has even sent the paperwork off yet! That means it will still be a month once they send off our... Hello, I just joined the team recently. But, I was hoping maybe I could get some good inside information. My husband will be finishing his teaching certificate and master's the end of this semester so we are waiting until he has a job before we start this process (crossing our fingers anyways, at least we live in AZ where there's still a teacher shortage!) Anyways, I'm trying to find a place to go with and was wondering if anyone has gone through or heard things about Adoption Network Law Cen... Adopting my son was truly the greatest blessing of my life.
Now that I am newly single I see, more than ever, the need to drop a few pounds and be healthy and active for me and my son. Wed, 20 Aug 2008 11:04:40 EST New question of the day. :) How many people on here have adopted (or are adopting) domestically vs. internationally? If international, will you share the country? If you would like, share a little about your journey?

Please don't share more than you are comfortable sharing.

Fri, 15 Aug 2008 21:48:20 EST Hello! New leader... thank you laundrychick! :) I will have a hard time filling the shoes of Laundrychick, but here goes. :)

I am Laurel, 36, mom to 3. My youngest is 7 and adopted as an older child from China. She is a real delight, as are my other 2... on occassion! LOL

My page is on private because of rude comments left on there by an immature person. However, if you send me a message, I will add you. :)

I live in Michigan and have lost over 100 pounds since starting my weight loss in March of 2007... Fri, 15 Aug 2008 21:45:23 EST I FOUND MY FAMILY! Hi everyone! My last post was last Fri. (8/8) & I think I was telling everyone that I was going to send letter or that I just had sent them to possible matches for my 3 brothers & 1 sister. Well, one of my brother's called me!!!! Due to lack of time at the moment, I'm going to cut & paste the email I sent out to all my friends on Weds. morning below. Thank you all for your wonderful support! I will be on her more regularly from now on because I'm planning to go visit everyone in Oct., so... Fri, 15 Aug 2008 08:29:44 EST Immediate Homes Needed I was contacted today by the wonderful lady who runs the agency that I adopted my son thru. She has a list of children that are available immediatly. They are at risk of having to leave the only place they have known and moved to another orphange. If you or anyone you know might be interested let me know and I will email you the information!! The agency is very dependable and was a real joy to work with!! 187 247 Fri, 15 Aug 2008 08:27:27 EST transracial adoption Hi everyone,

I picked up my new daughter yesterday. Thu, 14 Aug 2008 16:28:30 EST Just started the adoption process & I'm stressing! Hello! My name is Jamie and I live in the East Texas area. My husband and I have been married for 11 years and are unable to have children. We started the adoption process this August and everything is going smoothly. I was just called by our case worker yesterday and she wants to do our Home Study and 2nd 8 hour class all on Saturday. (We're going through the faith based option.) Hi friends!

I just wanted to share my good news! We are going to the courthouse today to finalize Sarah's adoption. Several families we know and love are going with us to help us celebrate and then back to our house for a big party. Fri, 8 Aug 2008 02:44:07 EST Update on Search for Birth Family Hi everyone -
I have been meaning to get on here for about 2 or 3 weeks to give an update. My last log in was 7/9/08 and I had just had my pre-search interview to start the search for my birth mother and/or half-siblings. I came away from the interview with more info that I had known & the fact that I did not have all of my non-id info from the agency where my adoption was processed.

Re-cap: I'd found out that I had 2 sisters & 3 brothers, but at the time could only rememb... Thu, 7 Aug 2008 14:43:58 EST good news! I officially have a new daughter! She's officially ours, even though we don't have Visas yet, and she doesn't have a Visa to come here (She's in Ethiopia). I'll be going there in just 4 weeks to bring my baby home! (I'll arrive just a few days after her third birthday!)
Any other Ethiopia families here have travel tips? I've never been there before, and I'm especially nervous about what's considered appropriate to wear there.

Thanks,
Wed, 6 Aug 2008 00:27:33 EST Hi! Hi! I am new to the team. We are currently working on our Dossier (loads of fun). I am trying to take off around 20 pounds but have trouble without the group accountability thing. Found out that I like food too much! Tue, 5 Aug 2008 20:14:36 EST Hi I am new to the group My husband and I adopted a beautiful baby girl from China in 2002. Today she is 7 years old. I found this group when looking into SparkPeople. It would be great to hear from another parent who adopted from China. We live in a small, rural area so there is little contact with other adopted Chinese children and their parents. Sat, 2 Aug 2008 19:11:26 EST Hi everyone! Hi, I'm a newbie to the team. I'm a 31-year-old adoptee in TN. I love reading all of your stories about adoption and am really touched that there are so many children getting great homes with parents who really love them.

I decided to search for my biological family ten years ago, and after years of waiting, I received most of the information that would lead me to them. Unfortunately, I learned that my birth mother was killed in a car accident when I was only a few years old, ... Wed, 30 Jul 2008 21:31:54 EST Is it true? Hi, I'm Julie. I'm 39 and trying to lose 50 pounds, although ten would be a good start, and I could really stand to lose 100 pounds. I just joined SP last month. Anyway, my husband and I have waited 20 years to start a family, and now we can't conceive. We are debating IVF, but I feel in my heart that it would fail and I want to be a mom more than I want to have a baby. We are just at the very beginning stage of thinking about adoption. My mom says I should be open to a transracial adop... Thu, 17 Jul 2008 18:03:44 EST Talk with my sister Hi everyone - my last post was about my pre-search interview (7/3/08) and all the new info I got. If you remember, I was debating on whether I wanted to talk to my adoptive sister. Well, I left her a message last Fri. that I had something important I wanted to talk to her about. We finally touched base today and talked for almost 2 hrs. She was all for me looking for my birth mom and siblings. I even decided to share info about her (during my pre-search interview, it was confirmed that m... Thu, 17 Jul 2008 15:38:07 EST New to group and returning to SP Hi all. I'm Kristin in CT. Sat, 12 Jul 2008 11:02:22 EST hi I'm new to this group I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I have two beautiful children ages 3 and 13. I had very difficult pregnancies! My husband and I want another child but because of my high risk pregnancies we're a little afraid to try again. We have, however, been looking into adopting a child...possibly even an older harder to place child. It took awhile before I could convince him that this may be a good avenue to explore "adoption" because at first he was very hesitant. Through talking and actu... Thu, 10 Jul 2008 12:54:11 EST new to group (kaz mommy) Hello. I just found this group and thought it would be nice to join. My husband and I adopted our son from Kazakhstan in March 07. During the 1 year process of adoption I did a LOT of stress eating. I gained 20 pounds by the time we left for Kazakhstan. I thought I would lose weight while we were there. The bread in Kaz is so,so,so good... so I did not lose weight after eating a ton of bread.

Through the winter months I did not realize that I was gaining more. The sweaters were hi... Tue, 8 Jul 2008 12:33:48 EST Starting the Search Hi all,

I am re-introducing myself. We had the kids at the agency AT LEAST once a day....dr's visits each week, etc.,

Just wondering wheather there will be a difference as actual "licensed" foster to adopt parents. Will we be going, going, going EVERYDAY?!

Will Bp's be coming to "our"home to pick up their kids? How "safe" is that?

As fost... Fri, 11 Apr 2008 13:57:45 EST new hey All!! Wanted to introduce myself. I am 28 and although I am not and adoptive parent or adoptee, i am an adoption social worker. SO...Adoption has been my life for the past five years. I work for a large agency on the east coast and do mainly domestic adoption. I need to lose some LB's TOO!!!! Nice to meet you all! Fri, 11 Apr 2008 10:15:51 EST My husband wants to adopt my kids I don't know how to go about getting info or the paper work. Any suggestions, advice, or help?? Thu, 10 Apr 2008 19:40:02 EST New here... Hi, I'm Catherine. I live in WA state with my husband of 19 years, my 3 children and my elderly father. We have 2 biological teenage sons and one daughter, adopted from China who just turned 4. She's been with us for 3 years and is just a joy to the whole family. I look forward to getting to know my way around this website more and getting to know all of you. Thu, 10 Apr 2008 02:47:37 EST Still on Waiting List for our Adoption Hi Everyone....
My DH and I have been on a waiting list for a domestic adoption since 11/06. Our home study is good until 11/08, so I feel I have a whole different biological clock ticking again. The adoption agency is not concerned and are confident we will have a newborn babe before our home study expires. We could renew in November, but DH is now 50 years old which is borderline too old (according to some birth moms).

So, to pass the time, for the first time in my marr... Mon, 7 Apr 2008 15:55:09 EST Cleaning like crazy I'm doing massive house cleaning today. The adoption worker is out tomorrow. I know they're not checking to see how clean your house is, but right now it looks like a tornado hit it. We have barely been home for the past several days so there is stuff EVERYWHERE.

I don't go for "perfection" but more of the "lived in" look. Let's be realistic. I have kids, it's never going to look like a model home.

The kitchen is done except for mopping the floor so now it's on to t... Mon, 7 Apr 2008 12:49:12 EST Good News! OK, I love the question of the day section of this forum, but have been absent from posting because we have been super busy lately preparing for our new addition. The agency we got our 2 boys through e-mailed us at the beginning of March and asked if we wanted another placement, so we have spent March recertifying for Foster care. However, the little guy we are taking is 100% free and clear to adopt. He is 2. We met him on Tuesday before our CPR/First aide training. He is cute as can be.... Sun, 6 Apr 2008 00:27:49 EST Contacting birth parent I was openly adopted by my maternal grandparents (along with my three siblings) and always was aware of my biological parents. I am having some health issues and since my adopted parents and my birth mother are deceased I have no one to answer questions. I have a good friend who helped me locate my birth father. I attempted to called him. His wife answered. She must have know who I was because as soon as I introduced myself she was sooo angry she told me never to call there again. Does any... Sat, 5 Apr 2008 19:06:18 EST Worker coming Tuesday I got a call from the adoption worker today. She is coming out to meet us and check out our home on Tuesday. She said because of my extensive background in adoption and post-adoption services they will probably only have to do one visit to our home instead of two. 48 Wonder if they'll give me a discount on the home study cost then?

I'm excited but insanely busy. We all want to move to finalization. After all, Shorty's been here since 12/06. Wed, 2 Apr 2008 22:46:44 EST Homestudy Approved- -referral in place! I'm glad to be part of this team. Good luck to everyone whereever you are in your adoption process.
I'm glad to see that there are so many people who have gone or are going through the adoption process. I can't actually say I'm there yet - we have all the paperwork - the stacks of it - but we seem to be dragging our feet to get it done. I just purchased a set of cookware from Saladmaster last night and was wondering if anyone here uses the products. And, the cook that came to our home made delicious "fried chicken" without using any oil or salt. I am hoping that it will help us eat healthier and help me with my weight. I am a pastor's wife and a mom to a very active 3 1/2 year old boy whom we adopted at birth. We have been waiting to adopt again since August 2006. We matched with a birthmom earlier this year and as the due date approched, she changed her mind and decided to parent. So now we are waiting again. Thu, 20 Mar 2008 15:39:03 EST new here I just joined this group. I'm starting the adoption process. Tue, 18 Mar 2008 11:25:04 EST Brand New Baby... No Sleep... No Motivation Hi there,

We just adopted a newborn a week and a half ago. Just as it was with our now 3 year old's adoption, we had about 3 weeks notice. It was private - no agency. Just like our last one, someone from church was due and wanted a family, so we stepped up -- with pleasure!

The three weeks were pretty stressful, so I kind of "fell off the wagon" with my eating, etc. I can't seem to get back on! Baby Zane was born at 5 lb, 8 oz and he's the tiniest thing. He eats more oft... Wed, 12 Mar 2008 10:15:24 EST New to the group Hello everyone! Well, we FINALLY filled out our pre-app after 2 months of prayer. I think I kept second-guessing myself about how good of a mom I would make. To be completely honest, I'm a tad bit scared. We were fosterparents to teens, but that was different. Majority of them were planned to either go back with their parents or were in a program to mainstream them in living on their own.

So, we're not walking blindly into foster to adopt. We know the issues that come with th... Thu, 7 Feb 2008 17:08:54 EST Educational needs of "our kids" Today we have a crucial IEP for our now 11-year old adopted daughter.
