Everyone is welcome, banded, gastric bypass, or other. SparkPeople Weight Loss Surgery Team Messageboard Been here a while, but HELLO! Hi everyone.

I've been here (on this team/forum) for a few years now, but this is my first post. I have been thinking about weight loss surgery since 2005, but something always got in the way. Sometimes it was just that I didn't have health insurance, once I was just about to begin the process and lost my job and another time I was somewhere about a third of the way there and lost that job.

In August of 2014, I went to a WLS Seminar done by one of the bariatric surgeon... I'm so glad that I did this for myself! My starting weight at the beginning of October (when I decided that I was going to go ahead with surgery) was 280lbs. I would love to hear from you if you know anything!
Thu, 18 May 2017 21:49:51 EST Sleeve Revision? HI, there. I had a sleeve gastrectomy in December of 2014 and have only lost about 20 pounds. AFter a motorcycle accident last July things really went downhill for me. Now upon finding my gall bladder needs out, it was decided that I should remove the band and have a gastric bypass. The main reason is due to my diabetes. The gastric bypass is the only surgery to work long term at reversing the diabetic issues. So, I found out this Tues, that I am having my revision done NEXT Friday! I live in OK and my in... Fri, 16 Aug 2013 01:55:32 EST why does it take so long. It hard for me to decide on the surgery. Wed, 14 Aug 2013 12:32:05 EST Not Sure If I Belong Here... I joined this group because it seemed it might work for me since there isn't a group specifically for the surgery I had. The intent of my surgery was not weight loss (it was a nissen fundoplication), but weight loss is a side effect of it, and it shares many possible complications with some types of weight loss surgeries. So, is this a good place for support on any of that stuff I have in common with you all? I'm about a month and a half post-op; I've lost 30 pounds so far, and I've never fel... I am finally considering WLS after having 4-5 doctors suggest it would help save my life. I am 38 years old, 4'10" and weigh 368 pounds. I was told yesterday by a vascular surgeon that I have venous reflux in both legs due to the excessive amount of weight putting pressure on my veins. He also stated that my weight has caused damage to my lymphatic system in my legs. I have been given a range of 5 to 10 years if I do NOT lose weight. I am trying my best right NOW. Does anyone know if it is safe for people with the LapBand to use Phentermine? I know certain meds are not allowed and wasn't sure if this is one of them. I'm considering adding it to my daily diet because I have been at a plateau and watching friends and family lose with the Phentermine pill. I have used it before I was banded so I am well aware of the side affects, I just need to know if it is on the not allowed list, will it irritate my stomach pouch? 24 Thu, 15 Sep 2011 19:59:27 EST Hey everyone! Thu, 1 Sep 2011 21:18:05 EST Hi, I'm new here! (DS WLS in 2006) Greetings: I joined sparkpeople today because I need to go back to tracking my food and exercise. I've had a 5% regain from my lowest weight, and I don't want to get on a slippery slope. I want to nip this in the bud while it's still easy to fix! I had a Duodenal Switch in 2005/6 (it was a 2 part surgery) and lost from 430 down to 168. I'm up to 181 as of this morning. I know it's only 13 pounds in 2 years, but it's unsettling. I had thought about it over the past couple years, briefly, as it came up in the media, and I always immediately dismissed it. It seems like such a major big thing, and it scares me. Even 6 weeks ago, a Facebook friend posted she is getting it done, and I was like "I could never do it".
But things keep happening in my life. My health is probably what I would call "fair". Mon, 28 Mar 2011 08:34:25 EST To Tell or Not To Tell Do you openly share that you have had surgery, tell a select few or keep it private? I am one week post-op and, to date, have have only shared with a few people who are close to me and a few at work. I suspect that as I lose weight, it will come up more and more and recognize that it would be naive to think that it will remain secret, I just have not figured out how to talk about it! Note to self....stay upright after drinking/eating for at least 30 minutes! I should know better. *sigh* Wed, 23 Feb 2011 23:52:22 EST I got approved! Hi everyone! Tue, 15 Feb 2011 13:51:35 EST Grrrrrrr!!!! I got my adjustment last week, and followed the instructions to the letter. 3 days of liquids, 1 day of mushie...and today I am UP about 3 pounds. I am beyond frustrated with my weight. C'mon...I can't even eat a whole frozen dinner for lunch. 39 Mon, 14 Feb 2011 13:01:20 EST Adjustment today I received an adjustment today. I am hungry between meals, which means I needed something. I will be on liquids until Saturday. That is the only bad thing about adjustments....not being able to eat for a few days. If I see progress from it, it will be worth it. I was up 1 lb from my last visit 7 weeks ago it was definately needed. Wed, 9 Feb 2011 13:27:00 EST New lap bander I have been a part of Sparkpeople for a couple of years. 17 months ago I had lap band surgery. I knew if I didn't, I wouldn't lose weight on my own. So far I am pretty happy with my decision. I am down almost 60 lbs and have gone from a size 22/24 to a 16. I know a lot of people say that having surgery is a cop out. I have to say that it isn't as easy as one thinks. There are still cravings, decisions to make good choices not bad. This is where I struggle. I will continue though, and... My biggest issue when I first started this journey is having a plate that looked very empty. People would look @ me and say "is that all your eating even though they knew I had gastric banding. I decided that @ parties I'd use desert plates & @ home toddler plates, people no longer asked me about the amount & I felt like I was eating a full plate of food. I have about 110 excess pounds that I have been lugging around and have been researching GBS for over 5 years. I now feel I have enough information to make an informed decision. Taking the first step was the hardest. I was watching The Biggest Loser season premier in September and one of the participants was competing to be a contestant on the show. Everyone had to step on a stepper 500 times. That lady f... Fri, 17 Dec 2010 20:38:50 EST Hi Hi my name is Sheila. I am 44 years old. My family and I moved to Germany, April of this year. It is right around the corner and I am excited and nervous at the same Tue, 14 Dec 2010 11:07:55 EST Glad I found this Team I have been on Sparks for about a week now. I have been looking for others that have had (or going to have) WLS. Both me and my husband are going through the process to have the lap-band. We chose the band because we have 5 children. With the band being the less risk we saw that as the better way to go.
We have done all of the tests and now are waiting for insurance to get filed. We have started eating better, but haven't done much exercise yet. I have started very slowly, but my husband... Sat, 13 Nov 2010 14:39:16 EST Hi! I have barely had any bad experiences--no vomiting/foaming up, no blockage issues, no major pain or nausea; but. . . I have not been able to eat any fruit or vegetables (including most baby foods!)without major distress since my surgery in May. Before surgery, I was primarily a vegetarian. Sometimes I just eat them anyway, knowing that I will feel horrible, in the hopes that eventually it will work out. Has anyone else had this problem? My weight loss is going ... She had her surgery three months ago, and is a great source of information for me as I prepare for my own surgery. I asked her tons of questions and checked out what she ate. She tries foods at home to see how she reacts to them, before she eats them out. Wow Wed, 2 Dec 2009 14:12:50 EST My Surgery Preparation Class is great It was week 4 in my 24 week prep class. We had a good discussion on what makes us eat and malnutrition. We learned about suppliments and vitamins/minerals to take after having surgery. Really finding this class helpful. 252 Wed, 25 Nov 2009 14:23:43 EST Preparing for Bariatric Surgery I am in the third week of a six month preparation course for bariatric surgery. It has been a struggle just to get into the class, however, I have qualified and I am taking it seriously. The class teacher recommended SparkPeople for food tracking, and I really love this site. I am trying to do the "head" work now before my surgery, so that I am better prepared for this life changing event. Tue, 24 Nov 2009 12:37:46 EST On the fence about having bariatric surgery I am in the third week of a six month prep course for bariatric surgery and still not sure whether or not I should have it. How to make is short enough to be read...Years ago, I discovered that each time I went to a church dinner I would panic until I had my food on my plate. I mean major panic that the food would all be gone before I got there. I had since overcome that, but I have to wonder where it came from. Everytime I try to lose weight I feel the same kind of fear.
