This guy made millions by tricking wine collectors. He put fake old labels on new wines, made up stories about how he got the wines and put them up for auctions where he made his millions. What initially tripped him up is that a vintner recognized the fact that there should not have been cases of a particular wine available for auction, yet Rudy had entered them. It was one of those "Wait a minute" situa... Sat, 9 Jan 2016 11:55:59 EST Wine glass covers Last summer during one of our excursions into wine country I came across a cool wine glass cover set. It was plastic or maybe silpat, designed like a sunflower and the purpose was to cover the top of your glass when you are outdoors to prevent insects from swimming in your wine. Wish I had purchased at the time because now I can't seem to find any of these! Please share if you know how to buy these. Thanks. Tue, 5 Jan 2016 10:13:18 EST Vegan choices I'm actively converting to a whole foods plant based diet and so, over the past few weeks, I've been thinking about how my favorite wines will compliment this lifestyle. Wines like Sauvignon Blanc, which I enjoy usually before a meal or when just visiting with friends will match up wonderfully with many fruit and veggie snacks. Tue, 5 Jan 2016 10:02:35 EST Meritage Over the years Bacchus and I have tasted a lot of Meritage wines. Each winemaker has a unique blend of reds that they use like a magic recipe. Obviously we had tasted this during one of our winery tours, purchased it and placed it in our wine library and forgot about it. Sun, 3 Jan 2016 08:31:36 EST Harvest time Here in upstate NY, the vineyards are harvesting and pressing, getting ready to create some wonderful wines. We heard one vineyard owner call this year a "winemaker's year". When we asked more about that, she explained that the weather had not favored their vines and so the winemaker would need to carefully craft this year's vintage as opposed to some other years that would be called "vineyard years" when the grapes are perfect and the winemaker just coaxes the wine along it's path to maturat... We have several bottles of wine in the house all the time. Usually wines we have purchased on our trips to wineries. So, we do have a collection, but truthfully our wines are mostly to drink now with friends and family rather than to save for posterity. That said, we are working on organizing the wines we do have so that we can easily find the bottles we want. Hi all!

Joined recently and am excited about everyone's wine recs. I tend to love full-flavored reds of any kind. When I want a white wine, I tend to prefer light, lemony Pinot Grigio. I basically know how and what to eat, I just need to work on some motivating strategies, and find that trying something new usually helps. So, here I am. Wish me luck! Wed, 3 Dec 2008 13:57:42 EST Live in NY but love the Chilian wines Hello to all my fellow wine drinkers. I wanted to say that I recently went to a CNY chocolate & wine fest that proved to be very disappointing. Many of our great NYS wines were not there, and there were maybe two free chocolate samples and 6 free cheese samples (which I guess helps with my weight loss).

But I have to say while I like NYS wines, mostly the white anyway, nothing can compare to Red wines from Chile. Tue, 2 Dec 2008 08:57:17 EST I forgot how much I loved this wine!!!! Last night I opened a bottle of Muscadet Les Caracteres 2006that I had purchased with my husband on a trip to France. I paired this bottle with some olives stuffed with feta, green seedless grapes and aged cheddar from Holland. This is by far one of the best vintages I have tried in a long time. Perhaps I have simply forgotten what a good Muscadet tastes like as normally for whites I drink pinot grigio or chardonnay. Any ways, I wanted to share my reawakened love with everyone and find out... Sun, 30 Nov 2008 06:52:53 EST Hi! Hi, I'm new to this team, and I am excited to find this group. I was introduced to wine while on a school trip to France, and I currently work for a liquor distributor as an assistant to the Fine Wine division, where I've been able to increase my palate, and introduced me to many wines that I would have never tried, or that I can afford. My favorite wine is Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Sun, 23 Nov 2008 22:49:24 EST Recommend a wine for Thanksgiving dinner... I would recommend a Sauvignon Blanc for serving with turkey or a good Riesling.

For red wine lovers, go with a Pinot Noir or Syrah.

I'll be serving Charles Krug 2007 Sauvignon Blanc of Napa Valley and 2007 Castle Rock Pinot Noir of Sonoma County. In addition to working full time I also work part time at World Market in the wine and beverage department so we get a lot of exposure to wines. Attending wine tastings is another big event for me which I always look forward to. I hope you have room for one more wino in the group. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Jill 181 Wed, 13 Feb 2008 14:13:20 EST
