SparkPeople Kayaking The Pounds Away Team Messageboard Any Central Texas Kayakers here? I wanna learn Kayaking! Yes I am totally a newbie but I am going to learn and do kayaking. I have a few friends who kayak and geocache together and their adventures so awesome and have inspired me to want to join them, but first things first, learning about kayaking. So are there any kayakers here that live in Central Texas and know of places that teach kayaking? Sat, 5 Jan 2013 17:22:08 EST Anyone paddling? I did 3 1/2 hours paddling the Annisquam River in Gloucester Mass for a distance of 6.1 miles. It was a little crazy with all the power boats on a hot Saturday, but it was still fun and a great work-out. Sun, 5 Aug 2012 12:40:46 EST Basic Kayaking Well I put my new fishing kayak into the water, without checking out how to properly get into and out of a kayak. Needless to say I fell into the lake which was hilarious. After watching youtube videos on how to properly do it I managed to get out and practice my stroke and by the end of my three day stay at lake was getting pretty good. Back at it again this weekend. I am thinking about getting a kayak this spring and one for my wife also. I am down to 416lbs with my bulk of fat in my hips and thighs. There are many types of kayaks ranging from sit on tops to the traditional cavity type. I'm about 5'7" tall.

I'm not sure if they make one that would be suitable and comfortable for my size.
Can someone make some brand and model recommendations with reasons why.

Thanks!! Wed, 20 Jan 2010 10:14:42 EST Best workouts for kayakers Does anyone have suggestions of which workouts are most beneficial for kayakers to prepare for the kayaking season? I live in KS so I really am not able to get out on the water until the ice thaws from the lakes and rivers, so I get a little rusty through the winter months. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Sun, 10 Jan 2010 11:10:13 EST What's your favorite kayaking spot? There's nothing nicer than paddling serenely along a beautiful stretch of river, except maybe shooting a raging rapid with your heart pounding and the spray in your face. My favorite paddle is the wild and natural Loxahatchee with its birds and gators and ancient cypress trees. What's your special paddling spot, and why do you love it? Thu, 8 Oct 2009 13:37:49 EST Hi! I just decided to explore the hobbies teams and was thrilled to find this team- I can't wait to read about all the different kinds of kayaking everyone does! I live in Upstate New York, so my paddling time is dwindling as the days get shorter and the weather cooler. I paddle with my kids, my husband, my friends, and by myself. I used to race and to coach kayaking. I also used to teach lesson... Sat, 26 Sep 2009 17:23:52 EST Hi All Hi
I'm looking forward to this team. We did three types of kayaking. We started the week with a 1/2 days lesson in the small hard shell play boats used for white water, then we attempted to do a run down part of the Truckee river.
