How often?

As Sadie has adjusted to her new home (it's been 6 weeks) she's shown a lot more energy. I recently called my placement rep to ask about where I could take her to get some of her energy out, since we don't have a large grassy back yard. I ended up trying out a couple dog parks, both fenced, and after 3 trips she finally let loose yesterday.

I would love to take her to a dog beach, and I see pictures of people... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 14:04:21 EST Greyhound Hi everyone, I'm new at this, so I really don't know what to do , but I do know I like talking and hope to learn as much as I can about greyhounds:
I tried finding where his litter mates got adopted,'or why Scorpio never raced. Need to find a vet
In Gresham Oregon that knows how to care for him, not just tell me they know about them.
Scorpio needs to have is teeth cleaned. But I'm afraid who ever I take him to isn't qualified in greyhound treatment.
Anyone know of a good greyhound vet in Gresham Oregon or Portland Oregon Fri, 6 Sep 2013 14:33:05 EST What's in a name? How did you name your greyhound? Did you keep its racing name or come up with your own? I'm looking forward to bringing home my new family member in a couple weeks and keep thinking about this topic. Fri, 16 Aug 2013 16:37:31 EST About to adopt! I grew up with ex-racers and am getting ready to adopt one of my own! We have an appointment Saturday to spend some time with a few who might match our family profile and I am SO EXCITED! We won't be able to bring one home until September because I have a week long trip that first week. But that'll give time for us to visit and bond with the dog before taking it home. Anyway, I'm glad there's a community on here! Wed, 14 Aug 2013 15:46:34 EST Growing more hair as sign of aging? When we adopted Ember 2 years ago, she was bald and pink on the belly and had the classic bald haunches/baboon butt. Since then, the hair on her legs has filled in. Over the last few months I have noticed that the skin on her belly is getting darker, and in the last few weeks it seems the hair on her belly is filling in, too. Has anyone else seen anything like this on your grey? It's not like a bruising discoloration or anything, it just looks like she has developed a brown patch on her belly... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 14:04:48 EST Buying Dog Food Where Do You get Dog Food?
At a store like PetSmart? Between the dobe and the greyhound, we go through alot of dog food each month. So we are thinking of ordering pet food (dogs, cat, Guinea pigs) online. Anyone doing that? Tue, 11 Jun 2013 11:39:20 EST Greyhounds Are Slowing Down I read an article this week, talking about dog breeds that were once popular, and how their numbers are shifting. The dog at the top of the list was the Greyhound.

The greys were the 48th most popular breed in 2002. In 2012, they have dropped to 117.

24 Mon, 3 Jun 2013 13:45:50 EST Casino Dogs Revel Casino in Atlantic City wants to attract new guests by allowing them to bring their dogs along. (and I mean that with all the love in the world.) Monday night, as hurricane Sandy is crashing ashore 60 miles away, and we are all huddled (three people and three pets) in an inner room of the house with no power, afraid the howlind winds would smash in the windows, as siding is being torn from the house and trees are crashing down all around us, the greyhound was snoring in the corner of the room, sound asleep. Sometimes I wish I could be as oblivious. Sat, 3 Nov 2012 16:41:03 EST Why does my black greyhound look chocolate? (sigh) Rio loves to find the few spots in the back yard that don't have grass. She lies down to sun, rolls around a few times to coat herself in nice brown dirt, then comes running in through the dog door and jumps on my bed.

Rio, darling, I love and adore you. Our pet sitter comes three times a day, and even sleeps over some nights. We stuffed bones with peanut butter and put them in the freezer, and left the house littered with toys. We got back Sunday night, and when I checked the dog's kennels, the dobe had 0 toys in her kennel... and our grey Mort had 13 toys/bones stashed away in the back of his kennel.
I think he has a problem! :) Mon, 22 Oct 2012 17:57:07 EST Tragedy Last Thursday, my neighbor let some of her workman into my backyard without my permission or knowledge. I let them out at 7 and when I went to check on them, I found the gate open and they were gone. We frantically searched for them and found them about 20 minutes later. Wed, 19 Sep 2012 19:35:41 EST Is Your Grey A Slow Eater, or A Chow Hound? When we first got Mort, he was a grazer. He'd eat a bit of food and leave some for later. When we got our second dog, all of a sudden it was like he was back at the track, gobbling up his food as fast as he could, to make sure no one stole it.
I've noticed over the past month or so, he's slowed down a bit. He still eats all his food, but takes his time with it. The dobe inhales her food in 30 seconds and goes bounding off to find adventure, while Mort nibbles for five minutes or so. Mayb... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 14:25:09 EST Fattening Treats for Skinny Greyhounds Most greyhounds I know get the "old dog skinnies" as they age; unlike most breeds that get chubby. When I have an aging hound that I'm working to keep the weight on, I feed them "fat balls." Here's the recipe:

1 pound high fat ground beef
1 large container cream cheese
1 large jar (24 oz) peanut butter
4-6 cups old fashioned rolled oats

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, kneading like you would bread. Last year, it was a Luau ( or roo-ow) theme. this year, it's a patriotic theme, with costumes! Our grey is a bit of a girly boy, and loves when our 8 year old dresses him up in her princess outfits (well, I don't know if he LOVES it... but he never runs away what he sees her coming!) So I went out and got a kid's Uncle Sam costume, with hat and fake white beard. Mr. Mortlock is going to rock that cost... Mon, 10 Sep 2012 15:28:07 EST What did you do for your greyhound(s) today? My girls had a nice morning walk of about 20 minutes today. We shortened a bit from our goal of 30 as I'm getting over a cold and slept in late (til 6:20am) so it was already getting hot, here in Phoenix.

They're also due for a toenail clipping, so I'll be handling that later today.

What did you do with/for your grey(s)? Sat, 1 Sep 2012 11:25:48 EST Mort Caught A Bird We usually try to make lots of noise when we open the back door to let our grey out into the yard. Sometimes he spots a bird or squirrel, and goes into "fastest dog in the world" mode, and sprints out the door to try to get it. Well.. today.. he got a bird. Lets just say it was a bit messy. Poor bird :( Mon, 27 Aug 2012 12:16:53 EST Grieving for my Grey My wonderful greyhound Mike passed away yesterday after a brief illness. My heart is broken over losing him.

Has anyone on this board been through a loss? I can't even imagine how this pain will ever go away. Wed, 22 Aug 2012 20:44:06 EST Does Your Grey Bark/Run In Their Sleep? When Mort sleeps soundly (which is most of the day) he makes these noises. They are loud... but difficult to describe. Not quite a bark, but a mix of a bark/whimper/roo. I don't know if it means he's having a bad dream, so I usually just call over to him that everything is ok and that seems to settle him back down. But maybe he's dreaming good dreams... of chasing a rabbit or a bird or something.
But does your grey make weird noises when they sleep? Wed, 15 Aug 2012 12:51:24 EST Doggy Day Care? My husband and I are having some work done on the house and are considering taking Ember to Doggy Day care for the days the work is being done. She is very whiny when confined and so I think she might drive the contractor nuts. I also think she wouldn't appreciate being alone with a stranger in HER house using noisy power tools all day. Not to mention she growled at the contractor when he first came into the house for an estimate. I just think that maybe taking her to day care during the day ... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 11:34:00 EST Anyone Take Their Grey Running? My wife has been doing more and more running, training to do a half marathon next year. She normally takes the dogs out with her in the morning when she runs, around three miles. But after mile two, the grey is running out of steam and ready for home. Does anyone take their grey running, and will his endurance build up, or is he just not built for distance? Wed, 8 Aug 2012 15:20:30 EST New hobby for my Grey-Digging! Ember, my 4 year old grey (we adopted 18 months ago) has suddenly started digging furiously in the yard every time we take her outside. She exhibited no interest or desire to dig until a trip to the boarding kennel about a month ago. I can only assume that one of her roommates taught her how. I dont mind so much, its in a shady part of the yard where nothing grows and is hilarious to watch. The odd part is, she'll dig for a minute or so, lay with he front legs in the hole, head down and then ... Tue, 31 Jul 2012 12:51:15 EST Flea/Tick Meds I've never really given it much thought. But I had this big ugly tick on my arm the other day, and I was thinking about the dogs. I don't really use any sort of flea or tick prevention meds on them. Do you? What do you use? Wed, 18 Jul 2012 16:47:18 EST How is your Grey with fireworks? Living outside of Philadelphia, we had more than our fair share of fireworks for the 4th of July. The constant explosion of sound completely freaks out our doberman... but the greyhound sleeps right through it.
How does your grey make out with fireworks? Thu, 5 Jul 2012 05:13:40 EST Back to SP and love that there's a grey team! I'm back to SP after quite a hiatus. All of a sudden I was just sick of dieting (up and down.. plateau...up and down... plateau). I just couldn't take one more prepackaged meal or count one more point. So it hit me. Regular healthful food. Just not enough to feed a small army. Jenny Craig did get me over my portion distortion and now I'm just trying to eat "mindfully."

I am active in greyhound rescue in the DFW area. I currently have Fred (white w/ brindle spots), Exley (she'... Thu, 5 Jul 2012 00:59:37 EST Does your Grey like the heat? Our grey, Mortlock, loves the snow. He's like a puppy in it, burrowing in snowbanks like a worm. So I figured he was a cold weather lover. But now that the summer heat is on us, he lays out in the grass (upside down) and just basks in the heat.
How about your grey? A cold weather dog, or a hot dog? Wed, 27 Jun 2012 14:20:36 EST How many hounds do you have? I looked through the discussion history and didn't see anything like this. How many hounds do you have?

I have three we've adopted, and usually also have a foster. My 3 current hounds are came here as fosters. After the first two "failures", I served 3 years as foster co-coordinator for my greyhound group. I've fostered about 35 dogs in the last 4 years. I've learned more about dogs than I ever would have if I'd had just one.

Shelley Wed, 20 Jun 2012 15:16:43 EST Interested in Adopting? Fri, 15 Jun 2012 12:21:30 EST Dogs and Homeowners Insurance I was reading an article about how more and more insurance companies are insisting you declare if you have a dog, (and what type of dog it is) when applying for homeowners insurance. People with "aggressive" breeds of dogs are finding either their rates jacked up, or their policies cancelled. Now, problem is, there's no standard list insurance companies follow. But dogs can factor in when an insurer is reviewing your new customer application. Breeds typically thought of as aggressive include ... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 13:50:14 EST Dogs Debated by Presidential Hopefulls It seems like no topic is off the table these days in the debate over who should be the next president of the United States.
The topic of animal cruelty has arisen because of a Mitt Romney confession. In 1983, Romney drove his family to Canada with their pet Irish Setter, Seamus, in a crate attached to the roof of their station wagon. Mon, 5 Mar 2012 13:56:21 EST February is National Pet Dental Health Month Who knew?
Do you get your dog's teeth cleaned? We probably should. But both of our dogs chew deer/elk antlers, and the vet said they do a really good job of keeping the dog's teeth clean. In fact, he said that our grey has the best teeth he's ever seen. (Granted, greys have terrible teeth, so it was a sort of backhanded compliment.)
But do you get your grey's teeth done? Thu, 16 Feb 2012 17:02:20 EST Help needed for Greyhounds Hi - I found out this morning that the Iowa is considering a bill to end Greyhound racing. Heartland Greyhound Adoption (HGA) works with the Iowa track and this is where I adopted my Greyhound.
HGA is desperately trying to get the legislative group to protect the dogs in the case racing is ended in Iowa. The current language in both of the bills does not protect the animals because there are no provisions for care and adoption of these animals if the track is closed. We all know where t... Mon, 13 Feb 2012 09:55:47 EST Greyhound socialization We've had our greyhound Zoey for a month now. She's two and I can't imagine a better dog than her (which is what I hear of practically all greyts).

I have a question about socialization- we were told before adopting that since they spend their entire lives around other greyhounds they can tend to be "breedists" and not care much for other dogs who aren't greyts.

We've taken her to a nearby dog park so she can be outside off leash and she's also been around some of our ... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 13:56:54 EST New to the group! Hi - I'm so glad to see that there was a Greyhound group. I just joined SparkPeople and was digging around for some people with common interests. I love my grey - we just adopted in August and I can't imagine life without my running buddy. He was a slow racer and pulled when he wasn't quite 2, but he LOVES distance running! We've been working up our mileage very slowly and he's just having a ball each time we go. Anyone else run with their pups? Sun, 29 Jan 2012 21:03:00 EST Fat Greyhound? A recent study of vets warns that dog obesity rates could reach 50% by 2013. Mon, 14 Nov 2011 12:16:57 EST Adding another grey Hi all,
I am a first time greyhound adoptee, and we have had Ember for about 8 months. I have always wanted to have more than one dog at a time, but how do you know if it's a good idea? Ember LOVES attention from people, but is content to lounge in the corner on her own. She is nervous at the dog park, and will sometimes growl if another dog gives her too much attention that she doesn't like but has never bitten or snapped. She loves her toys sometimes, but is not possessive of them any... Tue, 27 Sep 2011 11:35:49 EST Greyhound Magazines? I've never been one to let the animals onto the bed or couch. Mortlock has one of those hammock beds, and had a favorite carpet he likes to sleep on. But no bed or sofa for him. How about you? Tue, 13 Sep 2011 15:20:50 EST Does Your Grey Bark? Our adopted Grey, Mortlock, has suddenly started barking at the deer when they wander through the yard. It's kind of funny to see... this silent, stoic greyhound start barking, loud and low, startling the deer poking around in my garden.
Does your grey bark? Tue, 23 Aug 2011 11:46:23 EST Hi, I'm a puppy mom of two. (Italian Greyhounds) I just started reading the Spark book a few weeks ago. This website is awesome. My first goal is just to keep track of what I'm eating and of course watching. I hoping to implement exercise soon. I do walk my greys almost everyday, its been sooo hot, even for them. I'm really excited to meet people who love greyhounds as much as I do. Sat, 6 Aug 2011 09:37:27 EST I have 6 of these sweet angels!! I work with Make Peace with Animals out of New Hope, PA - I answer the phones - I have been doing greyhound rescue since 1995 - and as they say you can never have too many - sort of like potato chips!! I just started a part time job at a local pet store where the interest is in holistic foods for our dogs and cats - I expect to learn a lot about what is best for my dogs. My oldest is 14, the other five run in the 10-12 year range - 30 Fri, 5 Aug 2011 15:07:13 EST Grapehound Wine Tour Anyone going this year? It's become one of our favorite things to do!! Fri, 22 Jul 2011 08:33:27 EST CORN-dogs Hello fellow Greyhound lovers!!

Do any of you have hounds that are plagued with corns? This is an ongoing problem with my girl. Right now she has one on each of her back feet and a really bad one on a front foot. My vet was able to "hull" her last one, but her newest is so big that it covers nearly the whole pad on one toe. I've been trying to soak her feet for 10 min. at a time and have just started giving her Bee Propolis, orally. The people who adopted her brother have had ... Hope everyone enjoys them! Sun, 5 Jun 2011 11:32:22 EST Darla Some of you may not know, but in March we lost one of our hounds, Louise, to a ruptured spleen. It was too late to save her and had to let her go; she was only 5. Wyatt was lost and we were, too. Fast forward to last Saturday and we now have Darla in our lives. Check out my sparkpage if you want to see her. She's a cutie and Wyatt is starting to come back to life again. Fri, 6 May 2011 07:54:18 EST Hello from NJ Just wanted to write a quick intro - I've been a member of the team for a while but mostly lurk. I am the proud mom of two greyhounds, one of which was a failed foster. Glad to see so many Greyhound people on here!

Sharon Fri, 29 Apr 2011 14:35:52 EST Sad news... We had to put Gal(our tiger striped grey) down today. She hurt herself last night and she can't use one of her back legs. She is to old to let the leg heal if it is broken.
This means that there will be a MAJOR power change among the greyhounds if we have to put her down. Marilla the next oldest will have to take the "thrown", but I don't know if she can handle it(she is always the follower, not the leader). Duncan the next oldest after Marilla might have to take the "thrown", which wil... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 10:51:56 EST Hey Everyone! Hey guy/girls;
I hope everyone has been doing well lately! Sorry its been so long since I posted. I hope that everyone has an amazing Easter on Sunday and I hope everyone has a great Mother's Day! Fri, 22 Apr 2011 20:22:14 EST Electric Fence? Has anyone tried to use an electric fence for a greyhound? The reason I'm asking is that my mother lives on 5 acres out in the middle of nowhere and she's lonely. We visited this weekend for the first time with the greyt and mutt. The mutt, female, was great. She stuck near the house. I kept Maverick on a leash, but he wouldn't poop not matter how long I walked him. I finally tied his harness to a long cable and went in the house for a bio break. I came out and he'd snapped his harnes... Thu, 7 Apr 2011 12:16:01 EST He Is A Digging Fool grrrrrrrrrrrrr..... stupid Mortlock! All of a sudden, now that warm weather is here, he's started digging like crazy. it only seems to happen in the spring, when the ground is wet. But he drives me crazy. I've never seen a dog dig at 60mph ! Mon, 7 Mar 2011 15:11:55 EST Are all the hounds and owners still hibernating? I know, short-coated hounds don't like to be outside for long in the winter. But it's time to wake up and get back into an exercise routine.
I'm planning on some regular jogging and hiking with my hounds.
Does anyone else have plans?

Birgit Fri, 18 Feb 2011 23:25:13 EST Hello from WA Hi everyone, just looking to see if there are still any sighthound lovers out there. I am finally ready for another, and am adopting a little girl out of Florida. She's got a ride as far north as South Carolina, and tommorrow, at the crack of dawn, I'll drive there from Maryland to pick her up. I'm so excited!!! She's on the small side, about 50 pounds. She's all-over brindle, and is reported to be very snuggly, silly, and safe with small animals. I've been communicating with her foster mom, a... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 10:59:14 EST Good Grey bed? I hate my stupid dogs. Ok... I don't really hate them, and they aren't really stupid.
But when we came downstairs this morning, the remains of a dog bed were scattered all over the floor. I would have assumed it was Moxie (because she is the poster child for destructive animals,) and I'm absolutely sure that she was involved. Tue, 3 Aug 2010 20:06:00 EST I have 2 greyt grey girls, so happy to be here My girls are 6 years old. Pumpkin who is a fawn has been with us for 4 years. 2 years ago we lost our Sapphire, a beautiful dark petite brindle, she is on the rainbow bridge now, so we rescued our Twist almost 2 years ago. There is some really funny video in the news today.

Race watchers in Australia got a surprise when a rabbit ran onto a greyhound racetrack, confusing the dogs, forcing them to choose between chasing their regular fake target or the real thing.
The rabbit ran onto the track in the middle of a race, and one greyhound broke away from the pack to chase it across the track. The race went on without that contestant. Officials disqualified the race and returned over 28-thousand dol... Fri, 23 Jul 2010 12:25:33 EST Hello Hi, I'm new to SP and was sure there must be other greyhound owners on here. I've two retired racers. My fawn male is called Ben and is 7.5 years old. I've had him 2.5 years. He was on what we call "flapping" tracks in England and retired when his track closed. The other is a black 2 year old male who never made it past his time trials as he was injured and is not allowed to run. I fell in love with him at a rescue centre a year ago. We spend all our time trying to educate people into ho... We are looking for another one as I speak(Next Saturday we meet him!)! Anyway, I love all dogs and all people! I love to talk about anything and everything, so please don't be shy about talking to me!!!!! 172 Sun, 11 Jul 2010 21:08:40 EST How is your grey in the heat? It's funny. For a racing grey that was rescued from a track in Florida, Morty wilts in the heat. He goes outside in anything over 80 degrees, and after 3 minutes is so ready to come in and crash. But once there is snow on the ground.. you can't MAKE him come inside. He would lay outside in the snow all day if you'd let him. He would make the perfect snowbird, living in Florida for the winter, then moving up north during the summer! Mon, 5 Jul 2010 07:39:16 EST 2010 Grapehound Wind Tour Anyone going? We will be there!

Sun, 27 Jun 2010 21:06:00 EST What a dull day ! I feel like the weather today dark and gloomy. I was on a roll for a couple of days and life always has a way of messing things up. I keep wondering how big do I need to be in order for me to really commit. The summer is here and I just dread the thought of finding a pair of shorts. The time of year that I love and hate at the same time. Well another day a new start. Hope everyone is having a great day. Tue, 22 Jun 2010 09:02:48 EST wow 2 days in a row ! I can't believe I have just cooked 2 meals in a row from the spark recipe site. I think I may have shocked my family. They were both very tasty. I am still trying to stay on track. My eating is getting better slowly, but I sure do need to work on the exercise part. I take my wonderful greyhound Kevin for his walks, but not much exercising is happening. Kevin tends to stop at everything we go by that comes out of the ground. As for anything else I am so tired by the time I get to finally sit a... Thu, 27 May 2010 08:50:25 EST Kimmie - Again If you read my earlier posts, you know Kimmie, my greyhound has hemangiosarcoma, a very aggressive cancer. We estimate she only has a couple of months, if that. We're trying to spoil her rotten and keep her as happy and comfortable as we can until the end comes.

Up until last night, she's been pretty good. I want to thank everyone for their good thoughts and wishes and prayers on my earlier post about my Kimmie.

She is home and is recovering from the surgery. But now we have another issue... she is in a lot of pain in the area of the incision. I live in Central Ohio and have two beautiful greyhound girls, one who I'm thinking might have the stamina to be a jogging buddy! Thu, 15 Apr 2010 20:51:36 EST So I filled out the adoption application... I sort of jumped the gun on it. I can't actually adopt until late July or early August as due to that I'll be moving from my mothers house to closer to law school. But they keep the applications for six months, so I'm technically on time.

Why a greyhound? Well, I've done a crapton of research and have wanted one for about 18 months now. They just seem like such good dogs.

It'll be my first pet on my own as an adult. I had a "starter husband" and we had cats to... Tue, 13 Apr 2010 12:40:55 EST Emergency Surgery Today :-( My beautiful greyhound Kimmie must have emergency surgery today. She had not been feeling well and last night I took her to the emergency clinic, where they found her abdomen full of blood. I then took her to my regular vet straight from the emergency clinic and they believe she has some sort of mass or abscess in her spleen that has ruptured.

There is no choice. But with the cold wet weather, their potty area is turning into a disgusting mess (even tho I'm cleaning up after them.) I'm thinking of taking out the grass where I have trained them to "do business" and putting in wood chips instead. Maybe this will make cleaning up easier? Has anyone tried wood chips/gravel or anything else in that area to make things less messy?
Thu, 4 Mar 2010 10:20:54 EST We Had To Say No It broke our heart, but we had to say "no" to the local greyhound adoption agency this week. They called us and asked if we could foster a grey for a few weeks, until they could find it a forever home. If they had called two weeks ago, it would have been different, but with the new puppy in the house, I just don't think it would be fair to ANY of the dogs to bring another one into the house.
39
Three dogs (two greys and a 12 week old dobe puppy) and a five year old are j... Tue, 2 Mar 2010 06:23:23 EST My Dog Is A Bandit So things between my two year old greyhound and the new dobe puppy are going well. They are starting to play together after only a week. Sat, 20 Feb 2010 08:16:39 EST Help Me Not Be Angry At My Dog We had a horrifying day yesterday. While I was at work in the morning and my wife was in the shower, our home was broken into and robbed. The crazed drug addict tried to break in through windows and doors, then finally ripped the small dog door the previous owner had installed straight out of the outside wall... frame and all. We adopted an ex-racer in July, and have had a wonderful time with him. My wife and two daughters dragged me to an adoption event, after watching the Phila site for months. Of course, we each fell in love with different dogs, but since the girls cleverly knew Daddy still wasn't entirely sold on the idea of a dog, they all rallied around the one that I liked. Eventually they wore me down, and he's been a happy dog ever since. Making him even h... Sun, 3 Jan 2010 18:15:53 EST Eye disease - Pannus Recently, we noticed Wyatt has some sort of blister on one of his eyes. I took him to the vet Friday and I don't remember exactly what she named it, but it may be some sort of cornea dystrophy. I posted the issue on a greyhound rescue group I belong to on Yahoo and it seems that a disease called Pannus is common in greyhounds as well as other breeds. I don't know for sure if this is what he has..I take him back on Tuesday for a recheck. He is getting 3 drops of medicine a day in each eye ... Tue, 15 Sep 2009 07:06:17 EST Might be chipping! So, I found out that Brocc's half sister is up for adoption with our group. We've talked it over, and talked with our adoption rep, and we are going to meet her and see if we should add her to our family. Really nervous and excited! It's like doing it for the first time.

pet.cgi?petid=14101614

We don't really care for her name, so we've been trying to figure out a new one we could call her, you know, just in case. 20... I think I am now a certified crazy dog (and cat) lady!!!!

Check out her picture in my profile and on my Spark Page!

She is a sweetie, a bit shy (to be expected at this time), she knows how to use the dog door, can handle stairs and her ears go straight up when she is interested ... Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:01:52 EST Relocating Overseas There is a possibility that my husband will be getting an overseas assignment for 3 years to Shanghai, China. He really wants the assignment but won't take it if we can't take our 2 greyhounds. I know that pets are allowed in Shanghai with minimal quarantine but I'm most concerned about getting them there. Any thoughts? Wed, 24 Jun 2009 09:54:32 EST Spark Your Life Convention!! Mileage to Convention: 135 miles

Just add your mileage to the amount above.

When you work out, simple put the date and amount of mileage accrued. Add your mileage to the total for the team and post.

You will see an example once I get home and post my mileage for tonight. Let me know if you have any questions. It sounds confusing now but it is actually very easy. Mon, 22 Jun 2009 18:49:36 EST Want to help animals in need? My little love, light of my life and precious babykins does tend to rush his food.

Tonight he was eating white fish and biscuits (something he has on occaision but not that often and it is properly prepared dog food so no bones) when he suddenly started choking as though he had inhaled it. Wed, 29 Apr 2009 11:17:55 EST A great story to share I'm posting this at all the animal related Sparkteams I'm on. Mon, 13 Apr 2009 22:06:40 EST Bee Well Miles Didn't know if any of you were logging your miles on this site or not. I saw the advertisement on Spark last year and I have been logging miles every since. If you are not familiar with the idea, BumbleBee Tuna is donating 15 cents/mile (either running or walking) to Breast Cancer Research from April 1-Oct 31.

I posted a link on our team page under "Links." Thu, 9 Apr 2009 20:04:04 EST Parades and Volunteering Hi, everyone!

I'm new to Sparkpeople and I have been learning quite a lot!

I spend couple times a month volunteering with my local adopt a greyt group. Today, we also participated in a local parade. I was surprised at how many greyts there were. Four dogs that are part of our volunteering on the first Saturday of each month at a local Petsmart, we already knew. But there were about 10 other dogs that we didn't know, so we ended up with a good group to walk. The parade ro... Sun, 5 Apr 2009 01:40:51 EST April Goal I'm not sure if this is in the right spot or not, so I'm sorry if it isn't! I thought I would set a goal for the month of April. I've been trying to think of things that I'd really have to work at (and still be able to do!) that would keep me motivated, so I decided to make my April goal a mileage goal. I'll only be counting my running mileage so no warm ups or walking on the treadmill mileage will count... but I think I'm going to aim for 30 miles this month.

Lately I've been... The vet told me last year I should really think about it....this year (when I took Solomon in when he was sick last week), the vet said they really needed to be done.

They are having a special this month (25% off normal price) and I just got my tax it seems like the perfect time to have it done.

God I get nervous when they have to put them under anesthesia though. Mon, 23 Feb 2009 15:39:31 EST Challenge Questions Since I made the Six Week Push Up Challenge thread an information thread only (I did this so people could find the weekly instructions easily), I decided to start a thread that you can ask the team questions or post comments regarding any of the challenges that we do. Sun, 22 Feb 2009 15:55:21 EST 6 week push up challenge Hello everyone.

March is quickly approaching and I thought it was time to start a new challenge. DON'T freak out...this is a push up challenge. Sun, 22 Feb 2009 09:58:28 EST 2009 Grapehound Wine Tour Just thought I would pass this on. We went for the first time last year and it was so nice! One of the crazy things Sunshine does that cracks me up is the way she cleans her face after eating. We feed raw (she loooovves it) and literally licks her bowl clean for 5 minutes, and then licks her face for 2 minutes, and then goes to patch of carpet and scrubs her face on the carpet by laying down on her front paws, with her bum sticking up in the air like an uber play-bow. She rotates her head back and forth and 'scrubs it' on the carpet so vigourously I think she might break her neck ... I love her to bits :)

I've got about 20 pounds to lose, without the hound it'd be at least double or triple the amount. No matter what the weather is like we need to take her out and walking with her has slowed down the weight gain process. But I want to be as fit as she is, so I've decided to change my lifestyle! Mon, 3 Nov 2008 16:08:57 EST Virtual Road Trip Hi everyone:

We are planning a "Friends Weekend" out in New York City. We would love to see all of you there. Fri, 8 Aug 2008 10:23:25 EST Introduction Hello, I am the proud owner of an Italian Greyhound named TY. He's a year and a half and loves to cuddle. Although he is not as large as the regular greyhounds he can do 25 mph easy and boy can he jump. Everywhere we go people pull up in cars, parking lots, etc. Just to ask "Is that a greyhound?" "Is he still a pup?" "Is that the tallest he's going to get?" and my favorite "Is he a show dog?" I think he knows people are talking about him because that when he start showing out, letting the... She slept through the night without an accident and seems to be glued to her bed, a couch potato for sure!

Dante, our puppy, hasn't really taken a liking to her, scared her a little, but I'm sure they'll come to love each other.

I've taken these next two days off of work to be with her and do some bonding and training and then back to work.

I had a horrible weekend both workout and ... Mon, 23 Jun 2008 11:48:41 EST A Question I want to walk with my hounds around the area where I live but i have two black greys and they turn into little solar panels in the sun. I don't have a ton of shade where we walk and i don't like to go out after dark because the mosquitoes are SOOOO bad.

Any suggestions on how to keep them cool?

I'd love to incorporate my babies into my exercise. Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:59:23 EST Team Goals Not sure how we set team goals but maybe we should try and set some. Some examples might be: Drink 8 glasses of water per day
Exercise 120 minutes per week (4 days @ 30 minutes seems manageable)

Anyone interested, any other suggestions.

Sat, 21 Jun 2008 10:48:38 EST Grapehound Wine Tours Just wanted to make you aware of this event. Had a big greyhound event last weekend. Greyhounds invade Gettysburg. And I was vending so was busy sewing coats and collars to get ready. Also my father in law had been in the hospital in ICU since the end of March and he died on April 24 so we had a lot of family "stuff" going on with the viewing and funeral. But I hope I'm back. I've got 5 weeks until my next vending event. Stuck to my eating plan as best I could with being on the run all the tim... Sat, 3 May 2008 10:55:09 EST Monday, April 28 Wow, how time flies. Mon, 28 Apr 2008 12:32:08 EST Lost Greyhound I know those of you who have greyhounds have most likely gone through an agency and have call lines for a lost dog.

One of the agencies I am currently "interviewing" with, Greyhound Adoption Center, has reported a missing greyhound.

Bella, a brindle female, has been missing from her Sacramento home since January. We had terrible storms here late that month, but she was spotted after those so we know she made it through. The agency has contacted some animal communicat... Fri, 25 Apr 2008 12:54:30 EST Greyhound Adoption I spoke for a good length of time, 1 hour, with a field adoption correspondent from Greyhound Adoption Center. I was up front with her about everything, Comet, our pool, what happened with the other agencies, how I was feeling, etc.

I let her know that if the fact that we lost a dog was going to keep them from adopting to us, to let me know right now and save me from the trouble of going through the process.

She was very understanding and asked a lot of really in depth ... Thu, 24 Apr 2008 13:57:28 EST Wednesday, April 23 Good Morning! I'm beginning to wonder if I should continue this group... I have gotten any input from any of you!

We're a team! Keep us all informed of how you're doing... Where you're struggling... Where you're doing fantastic!

I'm struggling with getting up in the morning. I would like to get up at 5 in order to get my workout done first thing, but it's so hard to get up that early when you have a boyfriend that is so awesome to cuddle with!

I'm doing ... Dinner came out very delicious, a SparkRecipe. Then spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching movies. I guess that would be our favorite pasttime. I could spend all day watching movies. Can you believe how fast this month, this year even, has gone by!

Went to the doc about my shin splints and the acid I've been getting. For the shins he said to just make sure I stretch a lot more than normal before doing any physical activity. It's normal pain and should subside the more I work them. Mon, 14 Apr 2008 11:57:19 EST Saturday, April 12 Hi, to all of you! Yesterday wasn't a huge success for me... I didn't make it out to the gym and we ended up having to eat Carl's Jr. because dinner got over cooked!

Good news is that I'm cycling so my calorie average should still be okay even though my diet wasn't ideal yesterday.

Today, I'm going to practice my motorcycle, visit with my mom, and most importantly, get to the gym for a nice hour or so swim. For dinner I'm making an upside down pizza. We'll see how it... Sat, 12 Apr 2008 13:29:15 EST Challenges Care to challenge anyone or all of us to do better?

Post it here! Fri, 11 Apr 2008 14:28:03 EST Friday, April 11 Yesterday was a good day for me! I didn't do my exercise like I normally do at lunchtime, but I made up for it that evening. I did a total of 50 minutes on the elliptical. I had a delicious, and nutritious meal of salmon and brussel sprouts!

Today, I plan on continuing with my healthy eating and swimming this evening. I love to swim so it doesn't feel like exercise to me!

I'm feeling pretty good about my "performance" this week. I've been stayong on track with my ea... Feel free to join me whatever day your normal weigh in day is and lets see if we can help keep each other motivated. It's definitely changed the way I look at treating, talking, training, and loving a dog!

Would you greyhound owners say that this book is essential for anyone who looks to or currently owns a greyhound?

How many of you have read this book and what are your thoughts? Tue, 1 Apr 2008 17:57:03 EST General Chat How was everyone's weekend? I fell off the bandwagon for a couple of weeks but I'm back on track starting today and back to the gym. It's so much easier being lazy and not doing anything but hard work is definitely worth the payoff in the end. Mon, 31 Mar 2008 07:04:11 EST
