It seems like it's two steps forward and three back sometimes. Between weaning off a med my insurance will no longer pay for, upping the dosage of Lyrica which is a hard med to begin with and having body flare ups (which is of course why I'm taking the meds in the first place :-!) It just gets discouraging. However, I am up and trying again. It's an exhaustive merry go ro... The worst drugs for weight gain are the "new" antipsychotics such as seroquel and olanzapine. It is one class of drugs that I refuse to take as the costs outweigh the benefits. I'm really glad that I have found a place where I can feel that I'm understood!! I have been on paroxetine(Seroxtat) for about a year now for GAD and panic attacks. Although this medication has helped me become my "self" again, I have gained alot of weight on it. My physician refuses to admit that the weight gain is solely due to the medication. Please could somebody shed some light on this mystery? I have never been overweight in my life, and I've tried everything to shed the pound... Has anyone gained a significant amount of weight while taking Cymbalta? I have gained over 20 pounds in 6 months, so I am tapering off of Cymbalta slowly and trying to just get off of anti-depressants altogether. I do not have FM and just take it for depression (irritability, coping, mood swings). Exercising, sleeping 8 hrs a night and increasing my potassium seem to have helped some. I know everyone responds differently to meds, but it seems like every anti-depressant I have tried has ca... It's really got me down.

I just realized a couple of days ago, that I'm actually gaining rather than losing--because of an increase in the Neurontin I need to take. I take 800 mg four times a day.

I've also been on 40 mg of Paxil for many years. It gave me about 35 of the 50 pounds I have to lose.

I'm also hypothyroid (though treated) and have Syndrome X.

It feels like quit... Come meet Shelly!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x19706x15430318 I used to be on prednisone and methylpredisolone which caused me to weigh in at over 350lbs. I was bedridden and my husband had to convert a bedroom into an upstair kitchen just so I could feed myself and our children while he was at work. I was also taking Lorazepam a sedative 3 times a day for bad anxiety attacks. I got off the sedative cold turkey after taking it for 3 years straight. I stopped taking the steroids for my bad asthma and was able to lose over a hundered pounds. Well fast for... I have been out of town without internet connection. I hope this team can help people. I have been on medications several times in my life that have caused weight gain. Then when I go off of them I lose the weight. I am on a med right now that caused me to gain 20 pounds in the mid-section. This time I am trying to combat it while still on the medication. I am hoping that sparkpeople.com will help. Let's help each other. Wed, 19 Mar 2008 21:44:44 EST Medication http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x19706x13028753 I am a stay at home mom. I was diagnosed with bipolar a few months ago. For years I have been on different medication that would cause weight gain. Then the doctor would let me go off them. Right now I am on seroquel which causes weight. I luckily have been able to stop the gaining of weight a couple of months ago. I only gained 20 pounds, but it was enough that my pants don't fit me anymore. I am now wearing one pair of my husbands and one pair of size 8 that I wore when I was pregnan... It is truly a bummer. Usually as soon as I am able to dump the medication I can lose the weight. Right now I am on seroquel for bipolar disorder and it caused me to gain 20 pounds to the mid-section. I am now 130 pounds and only two pairs of pants fit me. One is a pair of pants I bought for my husband that he never wore. I don't look overweight except my weight distribution isn't right.
