He tried aspirating it, but it came back just as big 3 weeks later so he said I'd definitely need surgery to have it removed. I live overseas, but not exactly in a place where you'd want major surgery if it wasn't an emergency. Fortunately I already had plans to visit family back in the States later that same week. Unfortunately, the end result was non-laparoscopic surgery (for vario... Sat, 16 Apr 2011 20:44:59 EST Last day of Clomid.. Any suggestions?? Well--

I went and bought an ovulation kit as requested by my dr. I just took my last dosage of Clomid (CD9). I am not relaly quite sure what to do next, even though I have all the paper work telling me what to do. I believe I am supposed to use the ov. kit starting on CD12???

Are there any other suggestions that can help me? I am open for anything ranging from weird rituals to positions.. lol. Always up for any suggestions anyone may have. Some success stories may h... Thu, 14 Apr 2011 21:49:53 EST General Question Hi all, I am very new here. I have a question and thought this would be the best place to have it answered. I feel a bit foolish in asking but I did try to research it on my own first with no luck coming up with the answer.... I have been diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago. I refused to take any medications after being on them for months (besides birth control - which I just got off of this past week after a few months of being on it) since they were doing nothing for me. My question is, I h... Wed, 13 Apr 2011 19:11:40 EST PCOS and the clock is ticking! Hello! I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 1/2 years ago. In an attempt to help me get pregnant, my doctor prescribed Metformin and a low-dose birth control pill. The side effects of the Metformin were too much at the time... I had a very busy summer planned, and was not willing to have an upset stomach the entire time. So after about 2 months, I stopped taking it. I was also not able to take the birth control... every type of birth control pill I have tried gives me migraines.
<BR... Tue, 12 Apr 2011 15:30:59 EST New to this team (and PCOS) Hello all!

I'm Linda, close to 40 and diagnosed with PCOS back in November. I'm taking 1500mg of metformin daily & watching what I eat. I am down 15 pounds from my heaviest weight of 365, but have been frustrated by the weight creeping back up since my pharmacy changed brands of metformin. I'm taking steps to really track my diet & step up my exercise to make sure that it is indeed the med change that is affecting me.

I went almost a year without my period before gettin... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 17:30:14 EST pcos and pregnant twice now here is how: Hi. I received a diagnosis finally of pcos about 6 years ago. It made total sense after I got the diagnosis. Part of wha tmy doctor did was he put me on metformin and a low dose birth control pill that was a mini pill. He said these two things would help my body resotre its hormonal imbalance that was totally off and had been for 5 years at that point. Apparently the mini pill and metformin instead of suppressing ovulation it really did RESTORE and level out my hormones after 9 months and sho... Sun, 3 Apr 2011 23:49:30 EST Hello...I'm Tricia!! I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2008. Right after that, I was on the healthy bandwagon…I was super careful about what I was eating, I was exercising, and I lost about 20 pounds (I started at my all-time high of 220 lbs). And then, I don’t know what stopped me. You can probably insert any number of things, we went on vacation, we had company, I was sick, work was crazy, etc…you know all the excuses. I think part of what my problem was came from the endocrinologist that I had seen righ... Tue, 29 Mar 2011 15:45:55 EST New & trying for another natural conception Im new to the board but not spark people.

I tried for a baby through ART procedures for 6 years then stopped everything and just lost a ton of weight (30lbs to be exact) and conceived my son (oddly enough conceived in like 6 months after stopping everything). So now that my son is 8 months we want to try for baby #2 naturally since now we know it can be done, but need to lose the weight I gained while pregnant before that can be a possibility, so here is to actually staying motiva... Thu, 24 Mar 2011 15:52:56 EST I got pregnant after 4 years without a period! I just wanted to give all my fellow PCOS girls some hope with my story. We were told we would never have children naturally, but it happened for us after trying for 7 years without fertility meds (at 32 yrs. old). I actually got pregnant and I had not had a period in 4 years! (so obviously you don't have to have a period to get pregnant / ovulate). I did however lose about 30 lbs. over the 3 months before I got pregnant. We weren't even trying any more and had pretty much accepted we woul... Wed, 23 Mar 2011 01:45:43 EST New from New Mexico Hello all-
I was diagnosed TODAY with PCOS. I generally had a good IDEA that I would be diagnosed with it thanks to the advice and talks with my family dr. I went in today and sure enough... PCOS I have.

I went for blood tests today and they said the results should be in by this afternoon or tomorrow, so I am hoping I get a little more information then. However, I feel like I left the office with so much information in my head, that I am not sure where I am supposed to star... Thu, 17 Mar 2011 23:58:49 EST Might it not be PCOS? I was told I could have PCOS and it turns out It wasnt pcos, I had a saliva test run instead of the blood test. I have a major estrogen overload due to my weight gain last year and the hormones in foods. My body is ovulating but my hormones are so far off in the progesterone its not holding enough to make my levels high enough for child bearing at this time. The DR is putting me on bioidentical cream to fix it. Once the weight is off and I make all changes; no plastics, no hormone filled beef... Wed, 16 Mar 2011 23:48:30 EST Hi everyone! I am Sarah from Arizona Hi everyone,
My name is Sarah. I am from Arizona. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2009 and have been struggling with my weight since about 2006. Just recently I started wanting to get my body ready (in better shape) so that I may start trying to get pregnant. I just joined SP and would like to meet other like myself so we can encourage each other in this journey. Tue, 15 Feb 2011 14:36:49 EST PSOC/HSG I was dx in 07 with PCOS. Last Thursday I had an HSG and all is clear. The Dr. pretty much said my problem with the infertility may be simply because of my PCOS and the irregular cycles. Has anyone had cysts scraped off ovaries? (Not sure the name of the procedure)

I am setting monthly weight loss goals (as we know that weight has a factor with getting pregnant and it's hard to loose having PCOS). Just trying to get some opinions.

Thanks!!! Tue, 1 Feb 2011 18:24:07 EST New Hi all. I've suspected for a long time that I have PCOS. I recently talked to my midwife since we have been TTC for 2 years without any luck. My main issue is that I have maybe 3 "normal" periods a week. I want to try and get it under control naturally before I let the doctors play with me. Tue, 1 Feb 2011 10:48:35 EST RE appointment Well, after giving my OB 2 years of on and off clomid, we've decided it's time to suck it up and go to an RE. We go see her on the 4th of Feb. ( She seems to be the perfect doctor to go to...lots of experience. Not sure we can afford many of the options she will present us with, at least right now. But we have to know what we're up against.
Anyone else been to an RE? What is your experience? I'm a tad nervous...ok a lot nervous. Wed, 26 Jan 2011 15:17:05 EST SUCCESS! Expecting and loving it! I'm actually returning to spark to run some numbers on some recipes I've been creating for my hubby but I saw this group and I just had to weigh in! I tried to get pregnant for 3 years before I was diagnosed with PCOS and frankly I didn't "believe" I had the disorder bc I wasn't overweight. I did however start going to an acupuncturist who specialized in PCOS and infertility. 3 months later I was pregnant. I did get serious about nutrition. I'm a chef and basically I ate whatever was in front... Sun, 23 Jan 2011 20:56:46 EST Stupid Cycle I am so ready for this cycle to be over. I am on day 40. My temps have been crazy all month, and they are actually still up, but of course I am not testing positive when I have tested. I am 10 days late. This sucks! Sat, 22 Jan 2011 11:19:13 EST Hi, I'm new! Hi! I am new to this team. :) My name is Jen, and I found out 6 months ago I have PCOS. I tried (and failed miserably) to do it on my own... I've used sparkpeople in the past under a different username and found it helped me tremendously. So here I am again!! :) I am hoping that by losing some weight my husband and I will be able to get pregnant without having to go on Clomid. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Hope everyone is having a great day! Thu, 20 Jan 2011 15:26:28 EST Excited to share with those who understand! Hello everyone,

Currently, I'm enrolled in a medical study for women who have PCOS and would like to get pregnant. I'm doing a blind 50/50 trial between either Clomid or another drug called Letrozole. Letrozole is USDA approved as a post breast cancer medication. This study will hopefully show that it can also be used to induce ovulation for women who have PCOS. I guess some Canadian doctors have been using this method for a while.

During my own first cycle I was given... Wed, 19 Jan 2011 09:01:54 EST Hi Everyone Hi! My name is Courtney an2d hubby and I decided to try for our 2nd together starting in November. Unfortunately number 2 isn't happening as quickly as #1. We got pregnant with #1 the month after coming off birth control. This time I have been off birth control for 7 months due to a blood clot and as each month passes and the hormones are less and less in my body the longer each cycle is. Anyway i am hoping that if I get the weight off I will get #2. Good luck to all of you and I look ... Tue, 18 Jan 2011 19:46:56 EST What goals have you set for 2011? Hey team! I was hoping to start a discussion on goals for the year. Maybe we could inspire each other, and keep one another accountable!
One of my goals for the year is to have at least 500 fitness minutes a month. I also want to learn a new song on the piano every month. What are your goals for the year? Sat, 15 Jan 2011 01:48:39 EST Possibly losing my ovary to surgery... I never got an official diagnosis of PCOS, but 8 weeks ago, I went to the GYNO and discovered a cyst on my right ovary. My doc decided to bring me in 6 weeks later to check it out. I got the results from that test and they scheduled me for a CT scan the day after tomorrow to see if the cyst is a dermoid. Unfortunately, it'll have to come out and the chances are high that my right ovary will go with it. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant and I'll be completely devastated if I lo... Mon, 10 Jan 2011 22:40:52 EST No Carbs Equals Menstration I started a diet on January 4, 2011. Today out of no where I started my cycle. This is not the first time this has happened. The last few times I stopped eating carbs I have started my cycle within a few days. Maybe I am on to something. Maybe if I stay completely away from carbs I will get pregnant. Mon, 10 Jan 2011 19:04:52 EST positive OPK 4 days in a row? So 2 weeks ago I had fertile type mucus, so just to be sure I took an OPK, it was positive. Then for some reason I decided to take one the next day, positive again, and for two more days. I thought it was weird, so I called my OBs office and they said to just take a test in 2 weeks. Well it's been two weeks, and I'm pretty sure I'm preggers again, very tender breasts and heartburn, the same early symptoms I had with my last pregnancy. I would love to be pregnant, but I'm nervous that my h... Thu, 30 Dec 2010 21:14:26 EST Q- regarding HCG shot, and faint positive test I had a HCG shot done on Dec 15th and IUI done on the 16th. I normally start my period Tuesday night, well last night I didnt start.

I woke up at 3:30 this morning and had to go potty, so I use the pregnancy test and waited the two minutes and look and it had a faint positive! The doc office said to wait two weeks so I will do another one tomorrow morning.

Could this be positive because of the HCG shot? I am trying to be cautiously optimistic. This was our third ... Wed, 29 Dec 2010 10:21:00 EST Starting Clomid today Wish me luck! I'm excited and nervous. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I hope this low dose is all that my body needs to get kick-started. We haven't told many people since we weren't sure how to bring it up. I think the only person besides my husband that knows we are starting today is my husband's hair stylist (he uses him as a cheap therapist). Mon, 20 Dec 2010 11:04:46 EST Creighton Method of Charting I attended an introductory class for the Creighton Method of charting. They claim that they can cure PCOS through NaPro Technology (natural procreative technology). The class was not based on PCOS as it was an intro session and it is individually tailored in subsequent sessions. It is relatively inexpensive especially when compared to conventional fertility methods.

The website is
if anyone is interested, I don't know too much about it as I am... Thu, 18 Nov 2010 16:47:35 EST Helooo My name is Alyssa and I am twenty three. I got married a year and a half ago, and about a year ago was diagnosed with PCOS. We've been trying since we got married to get preggers, and it's been DEVASTATING me. To top it off, last year I had an abnormal pap, coloscopy came back fine, but this year it's the same deal! I also found out I have type 2 diabetes. We have been trying to have another baby since March, but I haven't had a period on my own at all. I'm taking metformin XR 500 mg. My glucose levels are good. I've lost 5 pounds this past month, but have a long way to go. An acquaintance who is a dietician recommended this site to me. I'm still figuring out how to do everything on this site, so bear with me!
Alyssa Fri, 12 Nov 2010 17:21:57 EST When to go to a specialist In a few weeks I have a follow-up appointment with my gynecologist and will likely start Provera/Clomid as we try and get pregnant. My husband has a sperm analysis next week. We've been trying for awhile and I suspect I've had PCOS for a long time and that my previous doctor missed the signs. I'm wondering if we should try and see a specialist now or wait to see what happens after Provera/Clomid. I know it is a personal decision, but when should we escalate this to a specialist. I'm not ... Tue, 2 Nov 2010 10:12:28 EST Question regarding pain It has been ten days since I ovulated (I have to have it forced with a shot after forcing myself to grow a follicle with chlomid and dexamethasone). Any opinions?
Thanks 40 Fri, 29 Oct 2010 15:18:48 EST Natural Remedies? I was thinking of setting up a consultation with a homeopathic medicine practitioner or possibly an acupuncturist. Has anyone tried either of these routes to treat PCOS?

I get so frustrated because everything I read tells me that no one really knows the root cause of PCOS and that it is generally treated with diet and exercise and metformin. Thu, 28 Oct 2010 11:15:35 EST TYPES OF PCOS Hey everyone!

I have been TTC for the last 7 months and next week I will be visiting my OBGYN to discuss the start of using fertility medicine. My doc has already done a preliminary hormone check and has found that all of my hormones are within the healthy range (my glucose was only 1 pt lower than the norm). My name is Sarah. My husband and I were married in July, and are eager to start our family. We went to the OB to start planning in April. I found out then that I had PCOS. Could it be that after 16months of trying, my hubby and I are expecting our first child?! Eeeeeeeek! I have a blood test scheduled for this afternoon! *Fingers crossed* Thu, 29 Jul 2010 09:36:00 EST Is an IUI worth it? I have been undergoing therapy (Femara + Norethindrone) to shrink the cysts on my ovaries for the past three months. It turned out to have shrunk them on one side, but the other side remained unaffected and the specialist wants to needle aspirate it, put me on Metformin, and then go through a cycle of IUI. All of this is going to cost quite a bit, and my husband is stressing about the fact that we've heard an IUI only gives you about a 15% chance. It's a lot to spend on such a seemingly sm... Mon, 26 Jul 2010 17:36:10 EST You CAN get pregnant with PCOS! I just want to spread some hope that you CAN get pregnant with PCOS. I am so grateful, thankful, overjoyed with SparkPeople!

I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago at the same time I was diagnosed with infertility. I got all the way up to 290, but then I got the Spark last October. I lost 50 pounds here on SparkPeople, down to 240 (which is still far from my overall goal), my cycle returned, and after this long 5 year battle I finally got pregnant in February, after just a few mont... I am not yet trying to conceive prob not until late next yr but I am on depo provera and I will be stopping it this yr so that my body regulates. I am going to go see my gyn and see what she says. Thu, 15 Jul 2010 08:35:29 EST Moving on to IVF Hubby and I met with the doctor this morning. We got the results of his most recent semen analysis, and talked to her about what we want to do from here.

Hubby's results were pretty good. Apparently the problems are all on my side, which I'm thankful for. We had the option of doing a couple cycles of injectables with intercourse or IUI, or moving on to IVF. We decided to go on to IVF. The doctor said that since I have PCOS and a lot of follicles at a time, there's a chance with do... Wed, 14 Jul 2010 12:27:19 EST New/Frustraded in Oklahoma Hi everyone Gena here. I am new to the group of course, and have my fair share of history with PCOS.

To tell you about my story I must go a few yrs back.

I had an obgyn that without even testing any kind said You my child have PCOS. Immediately put me on metformin, and bc then said oh yea lose weight.

I fought for over a yr with weight, and it didn't go anywhere, I had trouble with the bc would bleed very very very heavily etc. I decided after that I needed... Thu, 8 Jul 2010 17:02:08 EST Reproductive Endocrinologist My ob/gyn has referred me to a specialist - a reproductive endocrinologist. While she has 'diagnosed' me with PCOS, she's sending me to the specialist to 'officially' diagnose me and see if there are any other treatments besides the metformin and zovia I've been on for the past 16 months. I'm a bit nervous to see the specialist, for fear that my diagnosis could be more 'real' than it feels right now. But, who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and he/she will get me the aid I need and I can have a... Wed, 7 Jul 2010 13:10:08 EST Upcoming Dr. Visit I'm new to this team and could use some advice before my next Dr. visit. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late teens (about ten years ago). At the time there wasn't much info on the subject. I just took my BC and went about my life.

Now, I'd like to start a family. I went to a new Doc and she said try for 3 months them come back and we'll start clomid.

Three months have come and gone and I'm due back at the Dr. Any advice on what to ask her would be welcomed. Is the... Sat, 26 Jun 2010 19:44:24 EST Hi! 31 y/o female in San Antonio So happy to have found this group. Was diagnosed with PCOS at age 16. My husband and I tried to start infertility treatments and turns out that I have endometrial hyperplasia. On meds for it now so hopeful that things will have improved when I go for my next biopsy so we can move forward.

Feel free to add me as a friend ! Tue, 22 Jun 2010 13:32:01 EST Please help me. Good news, my twin sister is pregnant.

Bad news, she has lied to my face about even trying to get pregnant for the last year and a half. I have been struggling and going through so much crap after being diagnosed with PCOS and she just kept telling me someday her and her husband are going to try and asking me for advice to help her out (which I tried to do) when she already freaking knows everything.

Why does she need to say she will go online and research chlomid when... Fri, 18 Jun 2010 10:42:54 EST 4 months and counting I got off BC in the middle of January, right after I finished my period, then 2 weeks later, I was bleeding for 3 days (another period?? body readjusting itself??)and now it's been 4 months since I've had my last period. I've only kept a mental track of it before (longest break was about 2-3 months) but this time, I wrote everything down. I've also been taking pregnancy tests every month and it's always a negative. It's "normal" for me to miss a few months but should I be concerned about t... Mon, 14 Jun 2010 12:46:44 EST Frustrations (needed to vent) Hi everyone! I just need to vent a little, so you don't have to read this if you don't want LOL

My last round of Clomid got me to ovulate, but no BFP. The doctor wants me to move on to the next step...she left it up to us whether we want to do a cycle or two of injectables or if we want to move on to IVF. We've been looking at the pros and cons of each. I've always been wary of IVF, but it's a tough decision, especially since we're one of the lucky ones to have insurance that cover... Fri, 11 Jun 2010 16:49:24 EST Has anyone heard of ovacue fertility monitor? I came across this monitor in Conceive magazine and I checked out the website. It measures electrolytes in your saliva to track ovulation. Has anyone heard anything about it? Or tried it?
I'm desperate and although pretty pricey, I think I might try it
Thanks!!! Mon, 7 Jun 2010 19:22:55 EST hope for you! I just wanted to share a happy story with all of you. After 17 years of marriage, a friend of mine is pregnant with her first child. They thought they would never be able to have a child, and surprise! I am so elated for her, and thought maybe her story would give some of you comfort. Sat, 5 Jun 2010 22:01:36 EST Hello from Pensacola FL!! Hi! MY name is Lindsay. I am 27 years old, diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19. Thu, 27 May 2010 12:04:59 EST Femara Hi everyone. I have a question...I am having a difficult time getting periods in the last 5 months, so on 4/30 I was put on Progesterone pills so that I can have my period induced, since we are TTC for a second child. I was also given Femara and since I have never been on anything like this, I started looking things up online and only saw how it could cause ovarian cancer if taken for 12 cycles or more, autism in babies, etc. My husband looked at this too and is devastated. I am supposed to s... Sun, 23 May 2010 10:56:51 EST Femara Hi everyone. Since that time I've experieced weight gain and tender nipples. Anyone else have these issues?

I'm also taking progesterone 1x/day for 10days until I start chlomid again. Wed, 19 May 2010 09:46:00 EST hello from Michigan Hi my name is Heather I was recently diagnosed with Pcos. I am so glad that there are teams on here for support because at first I didn't really understand what Pcos was My doctor didn't really go over it with me so I bought a book and then when I began to read it I became scared and confused. Why didn't my Doctor even go over what pcos is she was more concerned with me maybe having Asthma ://Anyway in the book I am reading it had a list of symptoms and I checked yes to all but one :( I am go... Sun, 16 May 2010 09:14:12 EST So frustrated! I knew my period wasn't going to come on time, especially since I had 3 ultrasounds at the fertility specialist's office over the course of a week and they couldn't find any follicles maturing and therefore any signs of pending ovulation. But still, every time this happens, my mind goes wild with questions until my period actually comes. I hate it.

Meanwhile, I found out a friend who has 2 kids (and has been trying for at least a couple years to get pregnant again) is pregnant. It'... Fri, 14 May 2010 11:00:41 EST Metformin--HELP I just got back from seeing my midwife about PCOS. I have had a second batch of blood work done to pinpoint that I do actually have PCOS. My midwife told me she would like me to go on a slow release Metformin because it will help in my weight loss and in getting pregnant. She said there is a chance it will make me sick. Can anyone tell me their experiences on this medication? Does it really help with the insulin resistance and losing weight? What are your side effects? Thu, 6 May 2010 12:40:20 EST Frustrated: PMS and Pregnancy symptoms so similar Is it just me or is it so frustrating that PMS and early pregnancy signs are so similar or should I said similar to many other things. I had very early spotting (if you would even call it that) but is it sign my period will be starting or urinary tract infection or you are 8 days after conception. Are your breasts tender because you are going to start your period or signs of pregnancy. Every month is almost like a false alarm. Sorry venting here Mon, 3 May 2010 12:37:58 EST Hello from Lawton,Oklahoma Hello all, my name is Yvonne. I am 31 and I found out when I was 19 that I had PCOS. When I first found out it didn't really bother me mainly because I didn't realize how much it actually affected me. Off and on I took metformin but never really stuck with it. I am currently back on it, 1700mg daily, and my husband and I are ttc. We have been married since Oct 05 and have just recently started to see doctors and the whole nine yards to get pregnant. My friend told me about spark people and sh... Sat, 1 May 2010 10:58:32 EST PCOS and Normal Weight Hello everyone!

I am going through the long process of diagnosing me with PCOS. I am normal weight 5'4" 120 lbs. I was on birth control for 6 years and never noticed any problems. After going to the OBGYN for a long period 9-11 days they took my blood to find my LH levels are high. I was put on a 7 day course of hormone pills (progesterone) to hopefully jump drive my system, it knocked off 3 days on my period which was great. My DH and I decided TTC. The last 8 days I have taking o... Wed, 28 Apr 2010 12:46:13 EST Jealousy Hi, I just found out that my friend is pregnant and my first reaction (in my head) was CRAP, why not me? I feel like a horrible friend. I am happy for her but the green eyed monster is still there. I reacted well to her news on the outside though. We haven't really been telling anyone that we've been trying again so she didn't really know about our struggle...I'm pretty private about it. Anyone else feel the same at times? Sat, 24 Apr 2010 08:20:35 EST Hello from WA My name is Debra & I'm 30 years old. I don't have any kids and would like to... soon. I figured that any weight I lose will help me reach that end, but I'm also seeing a fertility specialist who is trying to help treat my PCOS and getting ready to run tests to make sure I can conceive. I'm currently taking Metformin and have been trying to get pregnant for about 2 years now. I had a miscarriage last May very early on in a pregnancy, and if I can't conceive, I will definitely plan on adopting! Fri, 23 Apr 2010 17:34:39 EST Hello! Hi everyone! I'm new to the group AND new to PCOS. I've been trying to conceive with my husband for over a year and was only recently diagnosed with PCOS. I'm disheartened and saddened by the news that conception will be difficult and may take years. It took us so long to get to the point that we were ready to start a family so to find out now that it may be even longer is....discouraging. Thu, 22 Apr 2010 11:18:08 EST Ready on day 13? Really!? Ok, so this is sort of a silly thing to get excited about, but I can't help it.

My doctor does a lot of monitoring during my cycles, and they told me to come in for an ultrasound on cd13 to check follicle size. I was thinking they were crazy, because the earliest I've ever been able to get my hcg shot before was cd17. Our last round of Clomid (same dosage), we got pregnant but had an ectopic and then took several months off TTC. And that cycle, I didn't ovulate until cd24.
<... Mon, 19 Apr 2010 09:34:06 EST i don't have a dr to turn to....advice please! there might be some TMI here, just so you know....

the only treatment i have for PCOS is vitex. my cycles tend to be fairly irregular, but the last several (other than this one) were between 30 and 35 days long. i'm now in at day 52 for this one. during those 30-something cycles, i observed the progression of cervical mucus from dry to egg white and back to fairly dry. but THIS cycle, i've had creamy CM literally since my last period ended. my cervix is usually quite high, and... Sun, 18 Apr 2010 23:59:48 EST Testosterone I was diagnosed with PCOS in Dec 09. I was put on Metformin 2/1000mg and Aldactone 100mg daily. My testosterone level was more than double what it was supposed to be, and my progesterone was in the toilet. After being on the Aldactone since then, my testosterone has come done from 21 to 12. My doc wants it below 10, then I can come off and restart my TTC efforts.

Has anyone else has any experience or success with Aldactone? There isn't much about it on the boards, and testos... Wed, 14 Apr 2010 12:56:06 EST Hi there! Hi there! I cried more than I ever do on the last round (50mg) but this is something much worse. I am mad, impatient and irrational. I can barely stand being around myself. I cry several times a day. My friends wonder what is wrong with me - they say I seem off or in a bad mood. My poor husband is not sure what to do so he is just keeping to himself. Is this a typical reaction /side effect for me to have? If so, what will I become on ... Mon, 22 Mar 2010 09:15:55 EST I am leaving I am leaving for awhile I just found out that I am pregnant. So I will be going to I will be back after baby is born. Sat, 20 Mar 2010 10:55:22 EST Costs! Hey ladies! We have wonderful insurance....except it doesn't cover anything past clomid. So when we moved to the injections phase last year, we spent a ton of money. Does anyone know of a different (ok, cheaper) way to order meds?! Fri, 19 Mar 2010 21:57:56 EST What is your "Strategy"? Sometimes I feel like a crazy person because if I hear something will increase my fertility even slightly, I'm gonna try it. Just looking for a little encouragement, something to say I'm not insane with TTC-fever!

My dr has me on Metformin, Clomid (2nd cycle), a steriod (0.25mg), and I do a sonogram/hcg trigger every month.

On my own, I chart my BBT, take soy isoflavones (CD 1-4), and use Pre-Seed lubricant.

It can get kind of exhausting, not to mention fr... Thu, 18 Mar 2010 11:39:17 EST Normal BMI with PCOS As we all know, PCOS is very frustrating. I was diagnosed November 2009 after a year of TTC. The doctor basically said that I won't be able to conceive without fertility drugs, since my BMI is normal for my height. (She was not interested in my natural cure discussion). So, I tried Clomid for two months, but my husband and I decided this was not for us. My husband and I are hoping to conceive as naturally as possible. If not, we’ll start looking at adoption.

I read a blog on anot... Mon, 15 Mar 2010 14:15:28 EST Venting and a good thing.... Ok so i went to my GP this morning to see if i could get some extra supplements to help me lose weight a little quicker, but she didnt seem too interested which was discouraging. But, at least she didnt say i was too fat. My Dr. told me I need to lose at least 100 pounds to get to my ideal weight of 135...I remember being that weight at 17-18 years old *sigh*. I know its not impossible but its going to take a LONG i am thinking of taking this diet pill i took a few years back that ... Thu, 11 Mar 2010 16:39:24 EST Hello from Washington Hello,
I just joined the group and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Sarra and I am 26, DH is 39. I was diagnosed with PCOS in October 2009. My Gyno put me on 50MG Clomid, which helped with stronger ovulation, but no BFP has happened yet. I have only been on it for four cycles, but my Dr. said after four cycles she would refer me to a specialist if nothing happened instead of trying something else. Me and my DH have been trying since october 2008, and he was tested with no pr... Tue, 9 Mar 2010 21:03:26 EST I think birth control helped me get pregnant TWICE I know that sounds silly, but here's my story (copied from another post I made in a separate forum). If it can help just one person, it's worth posting, in my opinion...

Hi, Cysters!

I wanted to post my pregnancy story in the hopes that maybe it will help someone who is desperately trying to concive, or plans to in the future.

When I first was diagnosed with PCOS in 2000 I was told that birth control, specifically Yasmin, would help treat many of my symptom... Mon, 8 Mar 2010 12:08:08 EST Alternative Medicine OK so I'm' relatively new to the whole PCOS thing. My OBGYN is pretty sure that I have been dealing with this most of my life and it has gone undiagnosed. Prior to my first pregnancy I started taking herbs for fertility prep. I took them for a month and ended up pregnant. I'm not saying that was what got me able to be pregnant. But I was wondering if anyone else out there has tried alternative methods and had any success? Thu, 25 Feb 2010 20:51:32 EST Semi new to spark and and new to this group I'm not really sure what to say. In September last year I turned 30. What can I say I was mortified. At the beginning of October during my yearly OB/GYN appointment,my doctor politely informed of a couple of things. 1. I was around 120lbs over weight (gasp! I knew I was heavy but not that heavy). 2. My cholesterol was 4X the normal amount (and even though I argued about changing my diet he informed no amount of diet change would be able to bring it to healthy level)and was being put on meds i... Thu, 25 Feb 2010 19:04:06 EST Now What? I suffer from PCOS and have had this my whole life I have always been big. I have been told that I will need to be medicated for High BP I am only 30 I am so mad at myself that It seem to discourage me more. I have a treadmill at home and looking into buying the Ifit cards for it but the cost a bit. My dr has asked me about WLS but I can't afford that (I was told you had to pay for it) and was also told that if I had it I shouldn't have anymore kids I would like more kids. The worst is I am a... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 08:57:38 EST acupunctur re/massage for ovulation? Hi there! I'm just wondering what (if any) alternative remedies anyone has tried to help with ovulating? I am also a member on and some people there have tried this with success. Just looking to broaden my thought process! Mon, 22 Feb 2010 17:27:46 EST New to Spark Hi there! My name is Melissa and I'm 28 years old, diagnosed with having PCOS at age 17. Started TTC in 2007 with no luck. We tried a year on our own (couldn't see a specialist until then), 4 failed clomid cycles and 1 failed iui. Took some time off to regroup and try and get myself back in a good place to try and conceive. I look forward to sharing this journey and can't wait to support others on theirs:) Fri, 19 Feb 2010 22:23:48 EST Newbie Hi,

My name is Kewanna and I just joined the team. I am from North Carolina where I live with my partner and two children. I have been diagnosed with PCOS for about 5 years. I am hoping to try to conceive this year before that good ol' clock starts ticking. PCOS has been such a problem in my adulthood. I am hoping the weight loss will make it easier for us. The OB already started talking to me about hysterectomy. So this is my only hope. Wish you all the best.

Kewanna <B... Both my fertility doc and hematologist have me on many medications to prevent the risk of having blood clots before, during and after pregnancy.
I just completed my th... Sun, 14 Feb 2010 18:03:33 EST Hello from Texas I am 25 and this is my third time with Sparkpeople; I am determined to stick with it. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was a teenager and was never told the effect it would have on getting pregnant. My husband had a successful vasectomy reversal January of last year and after a year of trying I finally went to the doctor. This month was my first round of provera and chlomid. I bought the home ovualtion tests to try and help know when I ovualted, and it was never a positive result. I go... Sun, 14 Feb 2010 13:39:01 EST Ontario Girls TTC - Government Funding Hi All,
My husband and I have been trying to start our family for 4 years...I just learned that in 2007 Premiere Dalton McGuinty promised to make adoption and ART easier for families in Ontario. A comittee was struck to review and offer recommendations, which they did this past summer BUT since that time, nothing has been done about it. With the budget meetings coming up, now is the chance to let your MPP's and the Premier know we want these recommendations supported!

Some... Fri, 12 Feb 2010 12:23:04 EST Hello from Kentucky Hi everyone. I'm Michelle. I'm 34, and have been trying to get pregnant since July of '09. My Dr. has not given me the "official" diagnosis of PCOS, but thinks I may have an insulin resistance issue. Last month I was put on Metformin and Femara. It's good to know I'm not alone. My husband just can't sympathize with how difficult it is to get that BFN every month. It's like part of your soul has died, yet another month wasted. I wish all of us luck, and look forward to getting to know all of y... Looking to lost weight and to have another baby! Wed, 10 Feb 2010 13:57:56 EST BCPs and just got 1st AF in months We're trying to conceive so dont ask why i'm on BCP mostly its because i have crap doctors that said to take those and loose weight, awful people i'll tell you, but i'm thinking since i lost some pounds and got my period this month thanks to the BCP if i should quit taking them and try or maybe just take another month of BCP and then try, i'm not really sure and i'm in the process of getting a new OBGYN that will hopefully care enough about my situation to actually return my calls, but has an... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 01:20:52 EST Two periods then nothing I am on metformin, was put on it in November. I had a 29 day cycle in November and December. I hit January and nothing. I am now on day 33 and wondering if I should be worried. Shouldn't the cycles continue to come regularly? If not, should I be talking to my doctor? I did take a hpt and it came out negative but a nurse friend of mine says it only works about 20% of the time until you are at least 5 days late. I don't know what to do. I'm mad if my met isn't working. Plus I have been... Mon, 1 Feb 2010 11:32:29 EST Ovarian Drilling Hi I am fairly new to spark people and am enjoying it. I was just wondering if anyone here has tried ovarian drilling and what were your experiences? I just had my ovaries drilled yesterday (I wonder if they struck oil :P )along with 3 uterine polyps that were removed. I took the advice and bought the Taking Charge book. And now I am even more confused by it all!
According to the book, PCOS and metformin can cause your body to not offer up the signs needed for tracking your cycles.. Clomid can actually cause you to NOT have good cervical fluids..
I am thoroughly discouraged.. I finally got AF after 63 days... So it looks like I'm on a 60ish day cycle.. How do I even begin to track that mess??

jenE Tue, 26 Jan 2010 11:58:55 EST Hello Hi everyone. My name is Leah and I am 29 years old. I have PCOS (and hypothyroidism and diabetes). Tue, 5 Jan 2010 11:29:03 EST Looking for a similar story. Hey everyone. I was diagnosed with PCOS in October. If everything looks ok then he will put me on a fertility med to help me ovulate and we can start TTC again. He said I didn't need metformin at this point. I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and what the results were. Thanks! Mon, 4 Jan 2010 09:44:58 EST New Hi all... my name is Kendra, and I'm new to the PCOS/TTC group. Fri, 17 Jul 2009 00:39:10 EST hello Hello everyone, I have just been diagnosed with PCOS this past monday, and that day I couldn't stop crying. I just got married september 08 and my husband and I had decided that we wouldn't start having kids until after our first year of marriage. So we haven't made a year yet, but a few months ago I stopped having my period. I went to the doctor after the first month thinking I might be pregnant but that wasn't the case. They thought I was probably stressed or depressed, 3 months passed and ... Thu, 16 Jul 2009 12:57:26 EST Good News! I've been worried recently about the short window I have in which to conceive and having PCOS. My RE said she thought I wasn't ovulating, so I was scared I'd have to go through months of testing to find out why, and see what gets me to ovulate, and my window (due to health issues) would close. I found out yesterday that I AM Ovulating. She said it's just not "robustly". Does anyone have any idea what I can do to spruce up my ovulation? She wants me to set up an appointment with her next month... Wed, 15 Jul 2009 14:57:45 EST Frustrated and depressed Sorry, but I need to vent to people who actually understand what's going on. I went in for a cd15 ultrasound this morning to check on follicle growth. One follicle, only 9mm. Not good at all. This was on 100mg of Clomid.

I'm so frustrated with this whole experience. I've done Femara - ovulated a few times, then poor response. I've done Femara with injectibles - same, ovulated a few times, then poor response. Now the same thing with Clomid. This emotional roller-coaster is really st... Wed, 15 Jul 2009 09:26:50 EST uterine lining very thin - ???????? Hi All, i am on my clomid 4th cycle and went in for ultrasound today (CD14) and had 20mm and 24mm follicles. But my OB-GYN was very concerned about the lining. She gave me estrogen for CD8-CD12, but still lining doesn't seem to have improved.

What all options i have in this case ?
Are there medications to treat this ?

I had a miscarriage last year so iam scared whether my uterus lining is not good enough to sustain a pregnancy. Wed, 8 Jul 2009 00:02:13 EST Motivation What do you guys do to stay motivated. We have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years now without any luck and have taken clomid with no luck. I feel very frustrated and hopeless. Tue, 7 Jul 2009 21:57:50 EST Newbie Hello! I am relatively new to SparkPeople and found this group while surfing the site. Until we began trying to conceive, I never gave my PCOS any thought. After reading some of your post, it is now nice to know I am not alone in this battle to get pregnant:-) Tue, 7 Jul 2009 15:16:38 EST Need some motivation and advice Hey gals, i am on 4th cycle of clomid without much optimism :( I've been ovulating previous 3 cycles yet no luck. 3rd cycle i had 2 big follicles (30mm and 20mm) and i was very hopeful but ended up with AF 10 days ago.

If i ovulate with clomid and still not get pregnant, is there something else wrong with me ?

I've lost so much weight on metformin (150mg per day) that iam almost underweight now and look very weak. Iam very much concerned about this and thinking may be i... Mon, 6 Jul 2009 13:53:49 EST What is going on? I am very confused right now with my cycle so I need some input if possible:)

Last month was my first cycle of clomid and it worked perfectly and I had EWCM at CD 17 & 18 and AF at CD 34 - all of which seems typical to me.

This month however I did not see any EWCM during the time I would expect to and no AF as of yet and I'm at CD 34. I took a pregnancy test on July 3 - CD 31 but it was negative. The weird part of all of this is that I had EWCM yesterday - so what is u... Mon, 6 Jul 2009 06:23:07 EST Do I Really Have PCOS? I was diagnosed with PCOS at 17 based on... a doctor's feeling. I saw her 10 years later and despite regular cycles she was still convinced I wasn't ovulating due to PCOS. She had me get blood work done and all of my hormones are normal. If I have a regular cycle and normal hormones, can I still have PCOS? She says yes, but I don't see how? Mon, 29 Jun 2009 12:56:05 EST Hello I was diagnosed a few years back, and I have not been treating my PCOS. My husband and I have been married almost three years, and we would like to start a family. I am stoked to find this group; SparkPeople rocks more and more. Sun, 28 Jun 2009 15:14:01 EST Metformin and no AF...possibly TMI for some..sorry I've been on Metformin for three months now. I got my AF two weeks after starting Metformin and was SO excited!!! Well, for May and June I have only had a day or two of spotting and no signs of AF past that. I'm on a stronger dose than I was when I first I just don't understand why I'm not having an AF. Did anyone else have a similar experience when starting Metformin? I was so hopeful in the beginning and now I think I'm losing hope 24 Thu, 25 Jun 2009 13:32:38 EST OPKs... how do they work? As a precursor to any treatments, my doctor has me doing a lot of blood work. One of which involves using an OPK, which she assures me will never turn up positive. I got the 20 day kit since PCOS makes everything difficult. Every day I've had nothing.. nada. Then today, I had a line. A real line. If it were a pregnancy test it'd be a BFP, but I know with OPKs the line has to be as dark as the control. It was pretty close. Does this mean my hormones are climbing, just not quite there yet, sin... Tue, 23 Jun 2009 21:57:53 EST Positive One Day Negative The Next Hi Everyone,

I hope you all are doing well. Well, here is something that I am having trouble wrapping my head around. I took a Home PT and yesterday it came back in the morning as positive. However, I took one again this morning and it came back as negative. What does this mean? Should I wait a week and see if it comes back as positive or negative again? I have an irregular period also, so I can't go off of if I am late or not. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks! Tue, 23 Jun 2009 09:53:51 EST Fertility Treatment Options and Cost Hi All,

I thought i'll start this thread for summarizing the fertility treatment options available for people with PCOS. Although lot of books cover these, i thought this place will be a good reference for people like me who are just starting on the treatments.

Please add your inputs based on your experience.
I am just starting with the basic medications because i donno much about these other than clomid and met. I am quoting the cost based on my personal experience... Mon, 22 Jun 2009 13:31:09 EST Clomid-Nasty joke! So I am currently on my second cycle of clomid and I have determined that it is a nasty joke thought up by male doctors. I am constantly stupid, hot and angry. So angry that I have zero interest in sex, which makes me madder! I can't even tell if I have ovulated yet this cycle which again makes me madder! Of course no one tells you this may happen, but after looking on the internet, apparently this is "a normal side effect". I don't think this is normal at all - its horrible!!!!!!! Oh y... Wed, 17 Jun 2009 07:15:30 EST Conceive on weight loss alone? Has anyone conceived w/ PCOS with weight loss alone?

I have been on clomid, fem, and w/ different combos w/ metformin..and none of them work..not even the slightest bit. My doctors told me weight loss will increase the chances dramatically, so I went from 243 pounds to 203 pounds.. and my insurance had run out for fertility meds...I had gained the weight back, and am currently in process of losing the excess weight on my body...

So I am wondering, have any of you been a... Mon, 15 Jun 2009 16:35:11 EST Laser Hair Removal Special FYI: This topic has been coming up more often as of late both here and in other PCOS forums.

I thought I would let every one know that I just got an e-mail today from Ideal Image advertising buy one area and get another for 1/2 off. Apparently previous clients can get an additional $300 off if they bring in a copy of the e-mail through 6/30/09.

Hopefully that will help someone here.

*Cross posted to PCOS & Losing Weight Wed, 10 Jun 2009 12:57:53 EST On Progesterone supplements - Any inputs Hi everybody, iam on my 3rd clomid cycle (150mg) this month and took estradial on CD8-CD12. My OB-GYN put me on progesterone supplements from CD17 because my uterus lining was thin. Iam on CD21 now.

Has anybody taken these supplements ?

Will this affect the cycle length ?
If this is going to delay my AF, i don't want to get hopes high!!

How long do you take these supplements ?
My doc has said i need to take till i get my AF.

Any sugges... Tue, 9 Jun 2009 18:26:05 EST Good Dr. for PCOS in East Tennessee Hi Guys! I live in the Morristown/Knoxville area and I am looking for a good Dr. to help treat my PCOS. I have been seeing my OB/GYN in Knoxville for a while and they have been trying everything they can think of. Now they suggested that I see an Endocrinologist. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks everyone! Tue, 9 Jun 2009 15:33:59 EST Has anyone tried electrolysis? Anyone dealing with ridiculous facial and neck hair?? Has anyone tried electrolysis? I've been checking into it, but it's so expensive...any thoughts? Tue, 9 Jun 2009 12:49:58 EST an emotional week... This last week has been horribly emotional. It started with my weight shooting up for no apparent reason (there's no way my eating justified the amount). It may be water weight or who knows...but given my history with eating disorders, the emotional response was worrisome. sister-in-law had her baby on Friday. I'm happy for her and my brother - I really am - but I still ended up crying on and off for most of the day. I mean...they started trying, got pregnant and had the baby in les... Sun, 7 Jun 2009 13:24:18 EST Adoption!! Ok...I'm just wondering if anyone out there has been told that they should just adopt because you can't get pregnant without assistance?

Today at work, some co-workers and myself were discussing Jon & Kate Plus 8 when my (male) manager, who has a 1 year old little girl, walked up and stated that Jon and Kate should not have had as many kids as they did and that they are exploiting their children. I told him that they did not intend to have 6 kids at a time but that she did IUI beca... Wed, 3 Jun 2009 16:26:44 EST Progress! Woo Hoo! I'm sooooooo stoked! I've been working out really hard & watching my diet & my fasting insulin is down!! 244 My doc told me that I need to get my fasting insulin under 10 in order to get pregnant. I'm not there yet, but I'm at 29!! I started at 50, then went to 42, and now 29!!! I'm so happy to be making progress!!! I'm planning to tighten up my diet further & add even more excercise! My Aunt Amy, a Nutritionist, told me that excercise makes your cells more sensitive to insulin & i... Mon, 1 Jun 2009 19:23:39 EST Just had the SIS So I just finished up with having the SIS an hour ago. I took Motrin like they said to but I am sorry that was the worst pain. It actually felt as bad as my ectopic did. Then when the test was done, my obgyn told me that the RE I am supposed to see on the 26th will repeat this procedure. I was astonished. First off this procedure goes under the "infertility fund" on my insurance which is only a measly 15000. And to have it repeated when I just had it done. I was pissed! I came home and... Wed, 20 May 2009 16:24:39 EST Hello... Hello everyone,

My name is Jess and I'm new to the site and new to PCOS. After TTC for over a year, my doctor diagnosed PCOS. I started on metformin in late Jan 09 and now take 2-500mg, 2x/day. I have had a fairly regular cycle since then, but my AF has been long (10-14 days) and heavy. I'm not actually certain if I'm ovulating or not (I even tried the test kits, but it was a bit unclear). Of course, all this is complicated by the fact that I moved to South America a month ago! I'm... Tue, 19 May 2009 20:15:12 EST Metformin question I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago. Wed, 13 May 2009 08:48:41 EST New here - CD 19 Hey there, new to the forums :) Name is Krystal. I'm TTC #2 and of course I have PCOS. Tried 2 1/2 years (and one miscarriage in between) until we had our son who is now 3 years old. Got off BC over a year ago and hardly had any periods on my own. I did clomid 50mg CD 5-9 but husband and I only had 3 BD days and I don't even know if I ovulated. Not using basal body temp yet, but been checking OPK's and not sure what to think. They're stubborn, especially with PCOSers.

Hate being a... Sun, 10 May 2009 14:11:36 EST Hi..from Tennessee My name is Rebecca Parker. I am 26 years old. I have had PCOS for four years. I look forward to meeting you all! Sat, 9 May 2009 00:47:46 EST Started Clomid So I have started my first cycle of clomid (100mg) on Monday. The really good new is that I had my HSG last week and my tubes are fine, but the really great news is that it brought on AF! At first I wasn't sure, but I called the doctor and he said it is AF and to skip provera and start the clomid! Tue, 5 May 2009 22:41:45 EST Ovulation Tests Hello everyone I have just had surgey to remove 10 lbs of scar tissue in my abdomen. Wed, 29 Apr 2009 12:20:37 EST Monitoring Ovulation on Clomid Hi Gals,
Iam on my clomid 2nd cycle and wanted to know options for monitoring my ovulation.
Are ovulation predictor kits effective when using clomid or do they give false readings ?
Is BBT charting and CM/CP the only option ?
My doctor does a sonogram on CD14 to monitor follicle growth, but i don't know the exact date when i'll ovulate.

Thanks for your advice. Tue, 28 Apr 2009 12:55:54 EST Moving from Femara to Clomid I'm just curious, has anyone had better results on Clomid than on Femara? I think most people's doctors start with Clomid, then move to Femara if that doesn't work. My doctor has done the opposite. I did several cycles of Femara, but failed to ovulate the last few times. With my next cycle I'll be taking 50mg of Clomid, along with my Metformin.

I really hope this works...I had my annual exam yesterday, and my doctor was really impressed with the weight I've lost. Fri, 24 Apr 2009 11:21:22 EST New and Nervous My husband and I have been trying on our own for over a year now. I met with my doctor yesterday and she wants me to see an RE because we have been married for 9 years, trying for a little over a year and nothing has happened.
I am feeling overwhelmed already by all of this. Mon, 6 Apr 2009 13:51:19 EST UGH.... I saw my Dr. on Friday thinking it was going to be the day that we move forward with meds so I can start trying for a baby and instead found out that all the tests I have done did not help and we now need to wait 3 more weeks so that my hubby can have his "stuff" tested.
