Completing the walk and collecting the stamp gives you a real sense of accomplishment. SparkPeople AVA - America's Walking Club Team Messageboard Walking @ Vicksburg National Military Park .
This is not a sanctioned AVA walk but one (or several) I highly recommend. It's a really nice walk and I say this having done it in mid July in the Deep South with my seven year old son! Tue, 4 Mar 2008 16:06:41 EST Share your ideas All right, y'all. I need your help. What can we do to make this team more active? What would you like to see? This is your team - help make it what you want it to be. Wed, 27 Feb 2008 12:02:12 EST Hello from NC! I just learned about Volksmarch today, and I'm really excited! Our church is putting together a group to go to an event in SC in April.

There are lots of YRE in our area of NC, and several special events each year. My husband and I are really looking forward to getting involved! And, now I finally have a great motivator for fitness! I'm going to work towards that event in April with my goal being to finish the walk! I don't care how long it takes's just important to finish... Thu, 14 Feb 2008 13:30:58 EST Team Map It would be great to know where everyone is from. You can go to your team options and tell it you want to be on the team map.

Eveline Wed, 13 Feb 2008 16:14:43 EST Favorite Volksmarch in your home state. I know it is hard to choose your biggest Volksmarch adventure so I thought I'd narrow it down to our home state. I live in Texas and we have some really great places to walk: Big Bend, Palo Duro Canyon, Caprock Canyon, the list goes on and on. But my biggest adventure was back in 2004 when we climbed Guadalupe Peak. Guadalupe is the tallest peak in Texas. There is a monument on top the peak and there is a record book there where you can enter your name to prove you climbed the peak. Thi... Wed, 13 Feb 2008 13:02:36 EST Hello from Colorado I saw your welcome to another poster, Walksfar, and clicked on your AVA link. I am proud to say that I joined a Colorado team called the FALCON WANDERERS and walked my first ever 5K today.

It has been one of my 101/1001 goals for over a year and there "just happened" to be a group walk in a town close by, today. So, even though I hadn't trained for it, I walked the entire 5K route today. It was a pleasant walk and so much nicer then trying to "race". My dog accompanied me and so di... Sat, 9 Feb 2008 21:27:36 EST SparkAmerica Monthly Challenge Sparkpeople has added a new feature where they are tracking the fitness minutes for the year 2008. They have set a goal and they want us all to log our fitness minutes to help them meet their SparkAmerica goal.

I have set a personal goal of 6,240 minutes of volksmarching for 2008. How about the rest of this team joining in on the fitness challenge!

Eveline Sat, 29 Dec 2007 10:05:58 EST I'm new I'm still new to SparkPeople. Just last Saturday enjoyed my very first Volksmarch (a 10K) in East Texas. Today I did a YRE in Irving with a friend that I've been walking with, and we completed the 10K route. We both enjoyed the beautiful weather and hopefully walked off a few Thanksgiving calories - ahead of time!
4
I am joining the AVA a local club this week - this is so much FUN!!
Fri, 16 Nov 2007 14:09:35 EST I'm New Hi,

I am new to SparkPeople and have been doing AVA walks for about 3 years. I now live in Memphis, TN area and there is not a local club here but when I lived in the New Orleans area I belonged to the local club. There were two YREs there and one scheduled event there. Before the hurricane I also did the walks on the MS Gulf Coast, where I was born and raised.

I've been in the Memphis, TN area since September 2005 and when I first got here the closest walk was about 3.5... Mon, 1 Oct 2007 08:35:48 EST introduction Hi! My name is Jenny and I am restarting spark. I am a beginning volksmarcher. I have done 2 5K events and I'm ready to do more. I'd really like to get to places I've never been and walk them. I just LOVE new places. So I'd like to join your team and I hope you can help me stay excited about being healthy. Wed, 5 Sep 2007 10:38:56 EST Volksmarching Special Programs Did you know the AVA has special programs you can participate in.

I have completed the College Degree program where you do 20 events on a college campus. That was a lot of fun. Most college campuses are great places to walk.

Right now I am working on the RiverWalk program. You have to walk along or cross a river (creeks, bayous, etc don't count). So far I have walked along 12 rivers. You can count the same river more than once if it is a different event, but I want ... Wed, 25 Jul 2007 10:25:38 EST My volksmarching vacation Most of the vacation was a mix of 10k walking events and being a tourist. We did do two events that I think qualify as day hikes. We climbed Monroe Ridge at Gold Discovery State Park (Placerville, Ca) and Mt. Livermore on Angel Island State Park (San Francisco Bay).

If you have time to, drop by and look at my online vaction photos. Just click on the red name of the photo album you want to view.

Eveline Wed, 11 Jul 2007 17:24:37 EST Volksmarched today! Today I did a 10K walk with my 2 year old. It was in Chittenango, NY. Chittenango is the birthplace of the author of the Wizard of Oz. The walk took us to some Erie Canal ruins. We walked the towpath, passed an aqueduct. Passed through a park that was holding a fishing derby, then through the village. The village has yellow sidewalks......yellow brick road.

Here are some of my pictures from today.

unnyMom88/Chittenango/?act... Sat, 21 Apr 2007 18:12:19 EST How often do you Volksmarch? I'm a walkaholic. I do an event almost every weekend. I will miss this weekend because I have to go see my baby on her 30th birthday...

I'll make up for it when I go on Vacation. 10 Days with a walk scheduled for every day.

Last year I walked 60 events.

I'd like to hear from the rest of the team. Do you have a goal to walk a certain number of events a month?

Eveline Thu, 5 Apr 2007 21:31:49 EST Plans for the Weekend We are going down to Georgetown (TX) to do a walk at at winery/vinyard this weekend. Weather is supposed to be dry and in the 70s. I'm going to take my dog along.

Hope y'all are getting in some walking too.

Eveline Fri, 17 Nov 2006 18:59:28 EST 10 things you won't guess... I'm copying this idea from another team I'm on. I thought that it would be fun to do it here to get to know everyone a bit better.

Post 10 things about yourself that you wouldn't find in your profile. It can be anything you feel comfortable sharing. I looking forward to what everyone will say.

Here is mine:
1. I design and host web pages for walking clubs in Texas

2. I finished 2nd in my class in high school. I’ve only stayed in contact with one high ... Fri, 8 Sep 2006 10:05:12 EST Welcome new member Hi, I see we have a new member. If you complete the 10K you are a winner. They are normally on a Saturday or Sunday morning, however we have what is called YEAR ROUND EVENTS (YREs).

YREs are different in that we have a host location such as a hotel or a convenience store that holds our "walk box". The YREs are listed in a book called "Starting Point". You select a walk from the listing, go to the location given, ask for the walk box, fill out the w... Tue, 27 Jun 2006 12:18:12 EST
