I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at age 15, but didn't really take it as serious as I needed to. Rather than finding a healthy diet that worked for me I ate a lot of junk food that didn't upset my stomach. In high school I maintained a decent weight just because my Crohn's and the junk food sort of counteracted each other. In college, like a lot of people, I gained weight. He says I'm over reacting and it isn't that big of a deal. My mother says "you'll live". Do people really not get how serious and painful this can be? Maybe people need to be more educated? Sat, 19 Feb 2011 09:04:37 EST New (to me) Prep Procedures Since we're all probably supposed to have one annually, was sort of surprised to find no information here about the new and improved bowel prep for colonoscopies.

I'm fairly bad about getting mine on schedule. It's been 3yrs since my last one so maybe this is old news.

Instead of being required to drink the nasty tasting "ginger" flavored Phospho-soda, my prep instructions were 4 docolax tablets at noon followed by an entire bottle of Miralax divided between two 32oz bot... Fri, 14 Jan 2011 18:37:45 EST Fears and Crohn's Disease I wanted to open up a bit of a dialogue about fear, because I think it's fair to say that, having been diagnosed with a chronic disease, we all feel it in one way or another - even if our fears are different. One of the best ways to get over fear is to identify it, acknowlege it, and deal with it, whatever that may mean to you!

So let me just start by saying...I just cried my eyes out. But in a good way! I was formally diagnosed with Crohn's disease two years ago (though it's been... Mon, 10 Jan 2011 20:47:00 EST Really don't feel like eating... OK. Mon, 10 Jan 2011 13:54:43 EST Hello Hi everyone, glad to see their is a Crohn's team! I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 25 years ago and have had 13 bowel resections including a total colectomy and 2 ostomy surgeries. I've never been the 'typical' Crohn's patient. I'm not thin! I keep on a maintaince dose of prednisone of 10mg/day, which I'm sure contributes to my extra weight.
Most 'diets' advocate eating lots of salads and raw fruit and veggies. I'm trying to find a way to lose weight without eating those foods! Tue, 4 Jan 2011 22:05:03 EST Am I eligible... Right this minute dear GD is in emergency in LA with her chrons. Thu, 30 Dec 2010 17:21:02 EST Healthy with Crohns I have had Crohns for 27 years now and am happy to say I have not had a flare up for 12 years now. I almost hate to say it for fear of jinxing myself. I do take pentasa as a maintenance med when I remember to take it but I have found that leading a healthy lifestyle has helped the most. I try to eat a balanced diet, get regular exercise, and keep my stress level under control. After several years of steroids as the only option for treatment, I now have osteopenea (sp?) and take boniva for... I was an avid user of Remicade and Humria (12 years) as these MAbs became available, but 1 recent and massive hospital stay where they found I had liver toxicity to Humria and I'm now off the MAbs (tried Cimzia as well) and back on steroids as I wait for the next big thing to be available for off-label use...looking for inspiration as I begin steroids again (devastated!) and settle into my wa... Tue, 21 Dec 2010 05:41:00 EST Sick of being sick Hi I'm Ashley, I'm 21 and found out 2 months ago that I have crohns. I found out when I had an Appendectomy which was caused because of my crohns.. Mon, 22 Nov 2010 22:30:31 EST Remicade - I'm looking for the positive! Hello everyone! This is my first post and I would like to know if anyone has something positive to say about Remicade. My Dr. says I need surgery again and would like to put me on Remicade right after. I'm a little reluctant to do it as I've only seen negative things about Remicade. So, has anyone had good results, does it truly make a difference? I used to eat it all the time prior to getting really sick with Crohn's. Then it would make my stomach "gurgle" which was more annoying then anything (especially if I had a meeting to attend.) Since it has been a long time I tried to eat yogurt again today. I had Yoplait light fat-free. I made sure to have my bread prior so I do not shock my stomach. Tue, 8 Apr 2008 01:30:23 EST Dieting with Chron's is tough Hello everyone! I am so excited about this group!!. I am 44 years old living with Chron's for the past 9 years. The begining was really though since I seem to be allergic to all of the medications especially Remicaide. This has resulted in a severe weight gain due to prednisone, and cyclosporine destroying the metabolism.
I am excited about hearing from all of the team members and interacting with you. Good luck to everyone and may God be with you! Sun, 6 Apr 2008 13:40:14 EST Crohn's and Travel I have had Crohn's for 12 years and have been through numerous surgeries, treatments, and a daily regiment of meds.
I have had a hard time holding my weight if I don't force feed myself I loose weight too fast. I guess there are so many foods that are a trigger, for yet another flair up that I half scare myself from eating.
I have a terrible time with air travel, when I get to my destination there is absolutely nothing I can do for days in the bathroom. Then I end up with severe cra... Tue, 1 Apr 2008 22:18:26 EST First Surgery, Any Advice? Hi Everyone,
I just joined this group so I though I would post my first discussion. I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was 17 and have managed to do well with drug therapies and diet until now. Over the past couple of years I've been in a steady decline. My specialist started me on Prednisone 2 years ago which helped a lot minus the horrible side effects and a year ago I went on Remicade and was able to come off the Prednisone. The Remicade was like a miracle drug for the first 8 mon... I was diagnosed with Crohn's a little over a year ago. I have found that eliminating all veggies and limiting my fruit has helped me emencly. I have not had a flare up in over six months. I do not take my meds, which probably will hurt me in the long run, I don't beleive in pumping my body full of medication. I have found that I can eat dairy and all the meat ane breads I want but I have to steer cle... Mon, 17 Mar 2008 23:53:06 EST New member with Crohn's Disease Hi,

I've had Crohn's disease for over 20 years, beginning right after graduating from college. I've had more than a dozen surgeries, including 2 iliostomies. (I'm now bag free, lol). In recent years, the disease has changed and I now have to worry about weight. I didn't in the past, because I flaired so often, I couldn't gain weight. Now, I'm relatively stable, on Remicade and Imuran and the pounds have piled on. I also have a child with autism that takes up a lot of my time... Tue, 4 Mar 2008 09:41:10 EST Dieting with Crohn's... Anyone who has read my page or my initial message, knows my story. But in a short recap.

I was misdiagnosed for a couple of years. Finally in 2001, they said it was Crohn's. I had a lot of damage in one area. My intestines has an opening about the size of a dime...if that...and the muscles were not working in that area. So it was really rough for two years.

Finally, after having gone to the ER with two blockages...I gave in and had surgery to remove that section of... I am glad I found some people on here that understand about Crohn's! I am 29 years old and have had crohn's for 11 years. Last year was the worst I have ever experienced. I was to the point where I lost more weight than I wanted and was so weak it was hard to get out of bed. That is really the tip of it but you get the idea. I have been symptom free for the last 7 months and gained 10 extra pounds back (good for my doctor, bad for me!) My reason for joining spark is fitne...
