John and I went riding again last night. Bitsy was, well, Bitsy... LOL But Cruiser was such a good boy. We actually took him out of the arena for the first time ever and he did AWESOME. She decided that she didn't want to leave the gate. Well, it's a good thing I needed the workout because by the time I was done with trotting (extended and posting the whole time) back and forth in front of the gate for 1/2 hour with only one or two breaks up further in the field as a "reward" to her - I had sweat rolling down my face, neck and back and my heart was pounding from t... One thing I never knew - you actually SIT different in an Aussie saddle... 40 years of riding one particular way and now I have to learn a new way to ride... This is going to be interesting to say the least! LOL I plan on going out to ride this afternoon and seeing if I can get the hang of that saddle. I am also goin... Thu, 15 Jan 2009 01:11:24 EST I want to lose weight, but not my breasts! Just what the topic title says. Is there any hope? I should lose like 35 more pounds, but I carry it quite well proportionally at this point. I'd love to get rid of my thighs/hip fat! Then some belly fat. Then some arm fat. But not my chest fat! Too bad I can't just tell it where to burn the fat from specifically.
Tue, 13 Jan 2009 10:55:31 EST Karma We had our new ferrier out last week to trim both Karma & Scarlotte. He was very impressed with Karma.

I asked him what breed he felt he was, and he said...Mustang. He has the ferril/wonderful feet of the Mustang and the Mustang head/body. (That could explain also why my friends felt he had some draft in him, Mustangs have been known to be part draft in some areas of the west.) He's only found a couple other horses with his feet as his, and they were Mustang.

He re... Tue, 13 Jan 2009 10:25:17 EST Ways to burn extra calories I sit at my desk all day for work. Boring! So I'm always looking for ways to burn some extra calories throughout the day. One example is last night I did lunges from the living room to kitchen instead of just walking. While my nutri-grain eggos were in the toaster, I used the counter to do some pull-up type exercises. When at work, I usually make it a point to go to the farther bathroom for some extra steps. And I drink a lot, therefore I go to the bathroom a I add trips to the water... Tue, 13 Jan 2009 07:15:49 EST For Sale Although I didn't really want to I placed my 2 1/2 year old Thoroughbred colt for sale on Horsetopia today.
I just don't have the time to break him, plus I have always ridden western (barrels) and he really has the confirmation and movement for English/Dressage/Jumper.

Im so bummed!
Tue, 6 Jan 2009 10:50:40 EST Hello from a newbie Hi all. I'm new to the team and to SparkPeople. Can't wait to encourage and support others and I walk my journey, and be encouraged and supported in turn. This is going to be a great year! 30 Fri, 2 Jan 2009 10:42:21 EST New Years Resolution What are everyones new years resolutions? Mine is to log on everyday to sparkpeople and keep track of my food intake and exercise. Sometimes I seem to miss days here and there because I am busy. The same goes with exercising. I have surgery on the 12th so that new years resolution will have to be postponed a month, maybe less I hope. Sat, 27 Dec 2008 10:20:34 EST Merry Christmas Thought I would share this one I just got:

An Old Fashioned Christmas Eve

'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch

The pond was froze over & so was the branch.

The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.

The kids were all home on vacation from school,

And happier young folks you never did see-

Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.

Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock,

There cam... Tue, 23 Dec 2008 08:50:54 EST starting back up Hi to all, It has been quite a while since I have been on this board. I hope everyone is doing well during the holidays. I blew off trying to loose weight for a while. Had some medical issues and will have a surgery the middle of January. A little disappointed cant ride until May.... Can anyone give me some advise to burn calories and still have a weight restriction?
Thanks & Happy Holidays Sat, 20 Dec 2008 10:54:06 EST HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! TO ALL HORSE LOVERS:
I know that we will all be getting very busy preparing for Thanksgiving, so I thought that I would take this opportunity to wish all of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Trudi Sun, 23 Nov 2008 10:48:54 EST I'm back It's been a while since I've been here. I've had a really bad summer. My parents both passed away within a short time of each other. I've been very sad and depressed, but need to get back on track. Glad to be back. Sat, 15 Nov 2008 08:20:56 EST Training in Stall Since the weather has not been good, I have just used the halter and a lead in the stall.

We worked on Flexing and it is going very well.

Karma is took me to be VERY patient...but he did eventually (after about 20min total) learn to flex his head. I had to hang onto him while he went round and round, and then he just stiffened his head like...NO WAY!!! But I kept a constant pressure and he did give. woo hoo. We repeated it several times and each time was ... Thu, 13 Nov 2008 10:02:16 EST Hi from Louisa, VA Hi,
I;m new and am just getting back in the saddle. I have 6 horses ages 3.5 months to 23. All apps but one and she is a QH. I had cancer last year and started riding again last fall to regain my strength. Thu, 6 Nov 2008 21:09:01 EST Ordered training stuff I just ordered the rope halter/23' lunge line/handy stick from Clinton Anderson.

I've been using my friends and LOVED it. So I broke the bank and ordered myself one. Should be in a couple days.

I will let you know how things go with my 2 using these. I have never tried to lunge either one. This should be interesting! lol! Fri, 31 Oct 2008 13:18:23 EST Weekend Winners Over the weekend DH and I went to the Idaho Reined Cow Horse show in Nampa, Idaho. The Idaho Quarter Horse Association raffles a yearling each year and then does the drawing at the IRCHA show. Well, DH bought $5 worth of tickets just 5 minutes before the close of the raffle. You guessed it. We won the filly. She is bred to the max, has been handled and hauled all summer and fall and is extremely intelligent. We walked her right out of the trailer Sunday evening and she immediately started tal... Thu, 30 Oct 2008 10:45:48 EST New Horse coming They are delivering Scarlotte this afternoon. I am excited/apprehensive. She is coming from a herd of about 18 horses to a herd of 2. Plus she is leaving her baby (who is now over 5 mos).

I have only ridden her twice...have not really had much contact with her.

What do I do to bond?
How do I help her get over leaving her baby? (they separated her a couple days ago.)
How do I make things easier on her? Fri, 24 Oct 2008 13:41:43 EST Sore!!!! Man its been a couple weeks since i got on my horse....and man do i feel it!!! haha its a good thing though....but yea im hecka sore!!!!! Tue, 21 Oct 2008 21:53:04 EST Gelding Question Should I be concerned when my gelding "drops down" when I am in his stall?? I don't know if it is a respect issue, or just that he is very happy that I am there, or that he is just very relaxed.

I notice he does it whenever we take him outside he is probably excited at that time.

But he does it when I am with him in the late evening by myself to clean his stall. He will even stand in front of the door as if to say...please don't leave me!

He is NEVE... Tue, 21 Oct 2008 10:33:45 EST Is it possible for me to ride again ? Hello, My name is Claudia. I had a bad riding accident over a year ago. I have since recovered quite well, but I can still feel pain in my lower back. I have been to physical therapy and even bought an exercise ball.
Can anybody relate and give me some advice?
Wed, 15 Oct 2008 23:39:00 EST Sheath Cleaning.. somebodies gotta do it! UGH Well, I FINALLY did it. Karma's first sheath cleaning. 2 I could not believe the gunk I was digging out of there! YUK!!!

I groomed him to get him relaxed...well, he WAS RELAXED, but when I reach for his member UP IT WENT! lol! He never let it down again, but allowed me to rummage around in there. (he at first was kicking at his tummy but I just assured him that it was ok and after about 30 seconds he just let me work...good Karma!)

What I need to know is.... Tue, 14 Oct 2008 10:22:09 EST New here! Hi everyone, I'm new here, I'm from Ohio I have an 11-year-old Westphalian gelding that I show in the low adult hunters (first year being an adult in the show ring!) Right now I'm hoping to lose about 15 pounds for my formal and then after that I'd like to lose another 15 pounds, for a total of 30 pounds :) Sat, 11 Oct 2008 13:59:32 EST What is the age of the oldest horse you've had? The first really good horse I had was a registered, foundation bred QH aged 6. We had her until she was 25, at which time I had her put down because of arthritis which hindered her getting up once she lay down. The thrashing and expenditure of energy, and the watching her struggle were more than I wanted her or me to bear, and so I made the difficult decision. Tue, 7 Oct 2008 01:06:10 EST If horses could talk, mine would say......... Well, my little yearling would probably say "whatcha doing?" He's the friendliest, most inquisitive little guy and always has to stick his nose into whatever I'm doing. How about yours? Sat, 4 Oct 2008 14:47:28 EST Hi! A Newbie from California - AQHA Dressage Hi everyone... just joined and frantically searched for an equestrian-related team to join. I'm 54 years young and horses are my PASSION! (of course along with my husband and family too!)

I have a 5 year old AQHA gelding that I ride lower level dressage, had him since he was 3, almost gave up last year after being thrown too many times, decided to stop training and just start riding him, have fun, play and enjoy each other... It worked!! He's my buddy now and we are slowly learning... Tue, 30 Sep 2008 11:28:49 EST More pics just a couple of barn...he's coming home on Saturday! woo hoo! Tue, 30 Sep 2008 09:59:27 EST Participated in my first horse show! I just need to brag about the first horse show that my daughter and I participated in. She's 6, and I'm very very NOT, but we both had a great time. She finished third in a division with kids at least 2 years older than her. And I competed with other adults in a walk/trot class and got a second place. Very fun! Now, if I could just convince my husband that purchasing a horse would be a smart financial investment right now.... Mon, 29 Sep 2008 12:27:53 EST Posted pics - barn progress-h homecoming The metal still is not in but we are building the stalls just to bring Karma home.

Also, this was my daughter's first homecoming. Isn't she pretty? lol!
Thu, 25 Sep 2008 10:44:08 EST Hunter/Jumper from Florida! Just started really using SP even though I signed up a while ago. Got on the scale and eek, I wasn't happy. I've been riding for 17 years, but 15 really since I didn't ride my last two years of college. I owned a horse and showed the "A" circuit until I was 18 but the parents then said they were not paying for college and a horse and college wasn't optional. So I had to give them up for a little while but I started up once I graduated.

I'm now training a medium pony who was a 3... Wed, 24 Sep 2008 10:33:18 EST hi! I'm new here! hello every one. My name is Jennifer. I joined sparkpeople this month to loose the baby weight from my last pregnancy. I have 2 quarter horses. I just started riding again post baby, just once or twice a week. I mostly just trail ride now. I used to be involved in dressage, cross country, hunters & jumpers. Biggest challence right now is juggling kids and horses! Tue, 23 Sep 2008 09:31:40 EST UGH!! Where we keep Karma, they have a 5 year old boy with down's syndrome. He is such a doll...but it allowed pretty much to roam and is VERY active.

Unfortunatly last evening, he was out in the pasture (alone) and got kicked by a horse. (he is ok) BUT they are blaming Karma. He has NEVER lifted his leg to anyone. There horse is actually in heat right now, and has bit him and raises her leg often. BUT they swear it could not have been their horse and they want Karma moved NOW. WE... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 14:23:23 EST Wonderful Clinic I just had to post about my daughter and her horse's wonderful clinic they attended last weekend. Bria has been having trouble bending Guardian in the right direction. This trainer said that most horse's have a preference over which shoulder they want to carry their rider, sort of like carrying a pocketbook. She had Bria sit to the left in her saddle, hold her hands to the right, look at the outside corner and he bent beautifully in both directions. Surprisingly she sat on the left side o... Tue, 16 Sep 2008 10:46:22 EST New to board Hey there! I am from Wisconsin and joined Spark People back in January. Since that time I have been eating healthier, exercising on a regular basis but have been bouncing around with the same 5/6 pounds this whole time. But I'm not going to get discouraged and will keep at it. My main horse is an 8 year old appaloosa mare that I've had since birth. She is my pampered princess and I have done all but 30 days of training on her. I have an AWESOME boyfriend who also likes to ride and has h... Mon, 8 Sep 2008 20:40:15 EST Potomac Horse Fever I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with Potomac Horse Fever? I'm waiting for lab work to see if that's what my mare has... My stallion got it about 11 years ago and was in isolation up at the U of M hospital. He survived, but it was expensive and then dealing with the foundering afterwards was also a battle.

I've vaccinated for Potomac & West Nile. My mare isn't running a fever (yet) so it's not like the classical case. They don't know if the vaccination has lesse... Wed, 27 Aug 2008 14:52:32 EST posted barn progress pics It is slow going...but we have water/working electric on site. Wed, 27 Aug 2008 10:59:39 EST Any horsey plans for the long weekend? I'm going to get my dressage horse lunged a couple of times this week. I think DD plans on riding him this weekend. Her horse is in training so she has nothing to ride at home. She showed my guy last year and likes him in an okay sort of way. So he's better than nothing. And her's is being a putz ROYALLY so she can't ride him even with the trainer helping.

I'm going to get on my western horse and practice our 'leg' reining, steering and my posture. Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:34:09 EST Newbie from Illinois I'm new to the group, so I just thought I'd say hi. Wed, 27 Aug 2008 08:56:40 EST Exercise or riding??? Anybody else have this dilemma?

I've just started riding my bike a lot....4 miles per day...and that takes all my energy and time. The idea of taking another couple of hours to go to the barn and ride, even for a little while, seems impossible. Along with housework, gardening and such.

I've decided that for right now, I'm going to not worry about riding with any consistency because the trade-off of biking and losing weight will be worth it more in the end.

... Mon, 25 Aug 2008 20:58:39 EST Another newby here I'm very involved with my horse and am working to get lighter and fitter so I can have even more fun with him/them.

I have 2 Morgan horses. One is a dressage trained, 9 year old gelding and the other is a western trained 6 year old gelding.

I don't ride much, but I do clean stalls and feed almost every day. I'll explain more about why I don't ride much later.

Just wanted to drop in and say HI! Sun, 24 Aug 2008 18:22:44 EST Barn Being built!!! Woo hoo! The driveway is in...the foundation cleared, and raised up with bank gravel...wood being dropped off today.

They are plotting out where the poles are to be set today/setting them on Friday morning.

We are picking up all the pipes/wires/faucet/etc today for water/electric. Already have the permit and electrician.

I will keep ya'll posted. Karma will be coming HOME soon! woohoo!! Wed, 20 Aug 2008 12:54:22 EST english riding So ive been back in the saddle now for five months and im having a blast.I am now learning english so any advice would be nice. Ive been jumping as high as 2'6". I have a hard time figuring out how to land so that im not bracing myself on the horses neck. I think i have it figured out now i just have to make myself sit up as soon as im over the jump. My other problem is just keeping my happy butt in the saddle lol. I have fallen off four times now but nothing too serious. This is just differe... Mon, 18 Aug 2008 02:27:41 EST Fair I posted pics of Karma/Terissa at fair...also a blog. Mon, 11 Aug 2008 16:52:59 EST Hello Everyone! I'm a new member of sparkpeople. What a great site. It is great to see many people supporting one another to live a healthier lifestyle. I haven't been riding in a few years. One of my goals is to increase my flexibility, strength, balance so that I do not feel so weak when I get back on a horse. Horses have been a part of my life for many years. I have been without them for about 3 years and I look forward to my return! Thu, 7 Aug 2008 18:54:04 EST Horse Show Experience I posted this up on one of my other horse teams, so sorry if it's redudent to some of you.

I blogged about our first horse show experience yesterday. I was hoping for some feedback from those who are more experienced.

Thanks for taking the time out for me if you have a moment.

urnal.asp?id=HEATHHILL
Wed, 6 Aug 2008 09:01:37 EST What breed(s) of horse(s) do you own? I'm new to SparkPeople and I love horses so I'm reading all the threads, new and old regarding horses. I click on your pages and see beautiful horses but often can't find what breed they are. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to know what kind of horse you own! Thanks so much! Fri, 1 Aug 2008 22:06:39 EST Karma's first 4H show I posted a couple pic of our adventure. My daughter had a fun time...they were on a learning experience.

LOL! her first event, the lead came loose and Karma went visiting. The judge just laughed. It was hillarious seeing the look on Terissa's face..."where's my horse????!!!!" lol! They let her do a do-over. Everyone laughed at how cute he was...he is such a cutie pie.

She only rode in 1 walk/trot event after that...she had the jitters, and was upset to her tummy.... Tue, 29 Jul 2008 13:48:02 EST Hello from Indiana Hello everyone! I'm new to the Team. My daughter started lessons several months ago, and today I go to MY first lesson in more than 25 years! I'm looking forward to the support from real horse men and women, and I'm sure I'll have questions! Tue, 29 Jul 2008 10:16:42 EST New to this team Hi all! 213 I'm on SP trying to lose 20 lbs.
I have a 16.2 bay Thoroughbred gelding who is the other love of my life (along with my husband) :) I think my boy will appreciate the weight loss! We do lessons, local schooling shows, and trail riding together.
Looking forward to meeting the other horse lovers on this team!
Fri, 25 Jul 2008 12:03:10 EST Lunging Success OH MY! I had such a wonderful time lunging Breyer last night! It was our first time...She's never been lunged before, but she caught on so quick! Within 2 minutes she was licking and chewing.

I started just bending/flexing her neck. She resisted at first...we went around and around, but within a couple minutes she was giving.

Then we did the backup where you wiggle your finger (like no no! while holding the line.) took about 15 minutes, and my arms got extremely t... Fri, 18 Jul 2008 09:34:13 EST Fly Boots I have tried several types of fly boots. They all fall down, get trampled on and torn within a matter of days, bind on the leg, etc. A friend of mine has some that she's had for years and they don't fall down, don't bind and are still in pretty good shape. She doesn't remember where she got them. She says they are called Shoo-fly. I cannot find them on the internet. Has anyone heard of these. The sort of look like a tube of mesh that are narrow at the bottom and flare out towards the... Sun, 6 Jul 2008 09:12:03 EST hey horsey people zone II over here Hey Im jessica have been riding since i was four. Live on a farm and have a few horseys. I have a five year old bavarian warmblood who is actually in Virginia getting sold. I have a 12 year old paint large pony who has no idea shes twelve. Thu, 26 Jun 2008 20:15:54 EST Hi Horsey people! I'm from cailfornia and have an appy and my daughter has a hackney. I've just got back into riding after losing my confidence. I quit smoking 2 years ago and now I have 50 pounds to lose. I ride all 3 styles but my favorite is aussie. I don't show, I just ride. Thu, 26 Jun 2008 19:46:25 EST hey ya'll noob here! Hey there! My name's Janasse. I'm 19 and love to ride! I am currently focusing on hunter-jump but also ride dressage (not that I'm any good) it's addicting! Anyway, my goal is to loose about 40-50lbs by next summer for show season. Great to be part of the team! Fri, 20 Jun 2008 20:13:09 EST Daughter finally rode Karma! He did pretty good. He did act up some, because the bit we were given was just too big! It was hanging out of his mouth! So we changed to a smaller one and he did much better. Not as much head tossing. (still may not be right though.)

BUT... we took it completely off...put on his halter and lead rope...she got on him bare back with only the halter and lead (tied into reigns) and he did WONDERFUL! He backed...went in circles...he was just a great boy! Maybe I would do better with... Tue, 17 Jun 2008 09:43:04 EST New CAROLINA horse luvr I'm from Western NC and ride/show Paints/QH. I'm looking to get back my fitness level and self-esteem after burnout from showing.... I've put on about 30 lbs. and need to lose it to get back into riding seriously again. Tue, 17 Jun 2008 00:05:03 EST Sandbagging instead of riding today! We live in southeast Iowa, and areas near us are dealing with levees that are threatening to give way to flood waters. After spending the day at my regular job, I met my husband in Oakville, IA and helped fill sandbags for the levee there. The town has been evacuated in case the levee doesn't hold.

I couldn't find "sandbagging" listed as an exercise! ;o)

So my horse got the day off today, and maybe tomorrow too!
Fri, 13 Jun 2008 22:58:48 EST Hay Our field is about 20% clover. Is that too rich to give to our horse?

They are haying our field in a couple weeks and we were going to keep the hay. Should we trade it for something with less clover? Maybe with someone with cows? Wed, 11 Jun 2008 14:50:56 EST saddle Has anyone heard of a CC Double Saddlery Custom Brand Saddle?

It is a square skired barrel saddle. Thinking of buying it. Very good condition and I think it fits Karma perfect. Hate to spend more for the saddle than the horse though! Tue, 10 Jun 2008 11:26:55 EST New to this group! Hello! I am new to this group. I used to own a Polish Arabian mare. I had the pleasure of owning and riding her for pleasure for 11 years. I recently sold her to a good home, which was one of the hardest things for me to do. I no longer live on a farm (officially moved out of my parents house after college) and I can't really have a horse at my apartment! Anyway, I was excited to find this group and share my love of horses while trying to lose some weight. I'm excited to meet everyone. Sat, 7 Jun 2008 01:22:07 EST Hey! Hello all. You can call me Mac, I am 22 years old, live in so cal, and a 4th year in college- Animal Science major. I have 4 horses: 2 Tennessee Walkers, 1 stunning Andalusian, and 1 recent addition Appy (well that's what the previous says but he doesn't look it.) My family has horse property so I take care of them all. I'm pretty much the sole rider in the family and love to trail ride, jump, and have an interest in starting dressage. Fri, 30 May 2008 04:14:36 EST New Spark Feature We launched a new feature today called SparkStreaks, where you can challenge yourself to reach certain goals every day (or week or month if you'd like). We know that members track streaks on their own, so we wanted to create this feature to make it easier to track. Streaks are a great way to give you extra motivation to reach your goals.

You can view and manage your SparkStreaks by clicking on My Home/Start, then finding a link to SparkStreaks in the "myTools" section on the left ... Thu, 22 May 2008 22:01:23 EST Equine Cataracts Because I have been concerned/neurotic about my thinking KC is spooky at things he shouldn't be, I scheduled an eye exam with an equine eye doc. He had his eye exam today. I'm still not quite over the awful news: CATARACTS. I'm getting some other opinions (have a call into a friend's husband who is also a vet opthomologist in Cali for a second opinion ) but even I could see it in both eyes when the vet shined the light in. He left me feeling like riding KC is pretty much no longer an option u... Wed, 21 May 2008 16:54:37 EST Are you really eating healthy when ordering out? Found this posted on another team and thought I would share. Makes you wonder?

ory.aspx?content_id=8547c029-ea1a-43b3
-a685-2f89b01edc04
Wed, 21 May 2008 16:33:39 EST Whazzup with breeches? About 15 pounds ago I fell in love with Tailored Sportsman breeches (the 4-way stretch kind, not those evil 2-way stretch that only fit mini-people).

These low-rise, cotton-with-stretch lovlies were SO comfie...gave me room across the seat (and by seat I mean the Wide Load Region) until I gained a few wee ounces.

Convinced that my breechs has somehow mysteriously and spontaneously shrunk, I went off to my friendly local tack store to get a bigger size 15
... Wed, 21 May 2008 01:33:10 EST Horsey SP Newbie on board! What a fantastic site! I wish I had found this wasting a couple months of money on nutrisystem. It's great that all the elements are wrapped into one site... nutrition, fitness, education, motivation, connection with others, etc... And to find a group of horse owners that are also trying to lose weight is excellent!! Where I'm from originally, all of my "horsey" friends were athletic stick figures that never struggled with weight. I'm just the opposite in that I feel like I gain weight when I... Tue, 20 May 2008 19:46:23 EST Re-Introduction - I'm trying it again. SERIOUS th Here I am again! I'm not going to be hard on myself. I'm simply going to try this again. I guess I tried too much too fast and stopped. HONESTLY, I have no will power. I'm going to try combining NutriSystem Food into this to see if I fare better. All I have to do is eat what they give me right? Oh, also exercise and lots of water. :) Wish me luck. I'm going to give it my all. It's all I can do. Mon, 19 May 2008 11:25:18 EST Hey Ya'll I am a horse lovin newbie!!
I am 54 yo old and started riding for the 1st time when I was 50. I ride ASB at my boyfriend's barn. I just bought my first horse last July. Rumor "Rumor Has It" is a green broke Appendix (QH X TB). Its kind of like the blind leading the blind since I haven't ridin hunt seat but that's how I'd like him to go. We are working on trying to canter... He'll probably end up being a trail horse although I would love to see if he would jump I can't afford Profess... It's a good thing I knew my current weight 145 lbs. they gave me 12 extra pounds in 2 days, thats a gallon and a half of fluid. Boy was I sick, and still having a time doing things. Mon, 12 May 2008 23:56:49 EST Hello! Just thought I would introduce myself, since I stumbled cross this Team of fellow horse lovers. My name is Lorna, but almost everyone but my mom calls me Pony. :-)

I just turned 38, and I joined SparkPeople a little over a month ago with some friends of mine from a forum. I am happily married, have a 13 year old daughter from a previous marriage, and our pets outnumber the humans in the family by about 3 to 1.

I've loved horses all my life, but health issues limit what ... Wed, 30 Apr 2008 08:41:54 EST First Day Okay, so it's my first day here at SparkTeam. I'm from Maryland and I ride and show in Dressage and Hunters.

I have three horses, a Percheron stallion, an American Cream Draft mare who is in foal to an Iberian Warmblood from Canada and a QH mare.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say here. Any hints? :) Tue, 29 Apr 2008 16:01:11 EST new filly I got home from work yesterday (i worked late) and one mare wasn't home with the others. She was due any day, but for a change it was nice out - so i let her out in the pasture (figuring she'd foal during the night). Well, she came home with a little one in tow... It was cool & breezy, but at least no rain or snow! She seemed fine, but tired from her long treck home. Today it's 29 degrees, so she's tucked inside with mom - safe and warm.

When the mud dries up and it's nice ou... Tue, 29 Apr 2008 10:25:50 EST overwhelmed! I haven't been doing much for my diet, exercising, or correspondence the past month or so. The work-load here at work has increased yet again, my aging parents, an unexpected death in the family, my house remodeling projects, last years landscaping project that needs finishing, my daughter graduating in a week (yay, she'll be a Vet!) and moving away, getting my income taxes done (i filed an extension), and we're in the middle of foaling. One mare aborted a month or two ago when i wasn't pay... Mon, 28 Apr 2008 19:43:14 EST My horse comes home! My boy comes home from the trainer's today. I am sooooo excited to see what he has learned and to start riding again. I am swamped with foaling right now but I am going to make it TOP priority to work him. My trainer is giving me a lesson on him today to show me what he has done with him. I will let you all know how that goes!
Nic Sat, 26 Apr 2008 06:35:33 EST Grazing Muzzle? Yep - my horse is too fat my vet said today after giving her spring shots. (Is there a Spark Horse out there?) LOL!

He said she is getting a little heavy and with spring grass here, I think you should put a grazing muzzle on her.... Are you kidding? Nope! He tape measured her and said she is 1288 (rough estimate) and she is only 15.3 hands.

Have you or know anyone that put a grazing muzzle on their horse? Any info. very much appreciated!

Thanks!

... Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:47:41 EST You gotta see this video. It is amazing!
Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:19:43 EST Lame hind foot? A boarder's horse at the barn came up lame yesterday (actually, more like a couple of days, but when I said something about it, no one paid attention). He walks almost fine on soft ground, but limps badly on concrete or gravel. His left hind foot looks almost crooked, like it needs a special shoe, but that doesn't seem to be really affecting him. There's no heat in the joints from hock to pastern, or in the hoof wall. Barring a moderate case of rainrot on the cannon, there doesn't seem to be ... Mon, 7 Apr 2008 15:17:43 EST Hi newbie here!!! I absolutely love him. He is also the best lesson horse for the hippotherapy. I've got a question though, how do you pronounced fjord? I know, silly question, but I'd like to know.

Also, why isn't there a horse emoticon?
Thanks. Fri, 28 Mar 2008 09:26:56 EST This site has helped me I don't know if anyone likes free videos for different things to do with horses...from care/training/grooming/showing/etc. This is a wonderful site.

I have been watching a lady named "Elaine Cardillo" doing natural horsemanship. I have a plan now for Karma in the roundpen. She is really easy to follow.

I also have watched a grooming session from some lady in England (I think??? by her accent) That is where I learned that I needed to do the dirty work of cleaning Karm... Fri, 28 Mar 2008 09:13:26 EST Hi from an equineless transplant! Hi! I'm K. I'm 22, in college in Georgia and itching to go back to the glorious bluegrass of Kentucky. I grew up on horses (literally), riding Western with my dad when he was still cowboying. I haven't been in real close contact with horses since my college career started, sadly, but I'm moving into a boarding farm come summer and will be back around the beautiful babies again!

I'm so glad to see a horse group on here! Nice to meet you all! :) Thu, 27 Mar 2008 13:33:37 EST HI Well I am new to spark and this team. I just wanted to say. I have 12 Morgans, that my family and I breed. My goal is to lose the weight and hit the shows again. It's been over 10 years since my last show so I am a greenhorn all over, I can't wait! 30 Wed, 26 Mar 2008 16:13:04 EST lame Got all saddled up,snacks and apples in the pocket of the saddle rug, going on a big mission ride for the day, got down the road and decided to trot and found my horse was lame! I diverted and took him slowly to the beach to walk in the sea. That was my long weekend over for riding.Yesterday I lent my horse to his old owner. Think she must have thought she could ride him like she used to when he was eventing! He a old retired boy now. I was guttered Mon, 24 Mar 2008 03:29:43 EST New Foal Wow...this year is just not going smoothly. I was working here on Spark People with my trackers and my employee called me around 10:30 in a panic saying that a mare had just foaled out in the pasture (in the snow!). I ran up to the barn and sure enough...there he was in the field with 3 other pregnant mares trying to steal him. It was quite the mess catching up those mares and getting everyone in the barn safely. But we did it and he is doing fine! This mare wasn't due for 2 more weeks s... Sat, 22 Mar 2008 13:54:11 EST I'm new with a loooooong way to go! Hi, my name is Linda. I just purchased a new horse last weekend (not by choice, but I am thrilled now). I used to ride and show Morgans and Quarter horses. In my slimmer past, I rode saddle seat, hunt seat, western and did a lot of trail ridding. I LOVE horses and anything to do with them. I love horse people and want to get to know everyone. Wed, 19 Mar 2008 13:22:37 EST Vacations Hi everyone,
I've been taking lessons but would love to own my own horse again. My husband wants to travel. What does everyone due when they want to go on vacation and who do you have take care of your horse(s).
Thanks for everyone's input in advance. Mon, 17 Mar 2008 11:00:45 EST Side Reins As I mentioned in another topic, we had a class at the barn this weekend, and lunging was one of the topics. They went over the use of side reins, and I had always wanted to learn that. The trainer mentioned that mine was one of the horses who could benefit from side reins (I agree - he definitely goes more with his neck and nose out, and doesn't engage his hind end enough).

So, I bought some side reins from the store after the class, and Sunday my daughter and I tried lunging hi... Mon, 17 Mar 2008 09:59:25 EST Equi Phar Butepaste 12 Gm for Horses - anyone? where can you buy Equi Phar Butepaste 12 Gm for Horses without a prescription? I could just contact my vet but thought I'd ask around here first. Sun, 16 Mar 2008 17:48:35 EST Tramatic Foaling Today Well...the first foaling of 08 did not go well. I have been foaling mares for many...many years and I have been lucky enough to have not lost one...until now. We lost a colt this morning that had his hind legs hung up inside the mare. Luckily we did not lose the mare or do any damage with having to pull the foal out. It took two of us using all we had to get him out but it was too late by that point.

This was a terrible experience...but I am not going to let it get to me. I ... Fri, 14 Mar 2008 18:26:53 EST Changing Leads I am having a tough time with flying lead changes. First, our trainer is telling us that when on a course, we need to wait until the corner before swapping. She says this is a change in judging style the last year or two (?) - my horse must have it ingrained to swap in the middle, because when working on the flat, as soon as he gets wind of the fact that we'll be changing direction (i.e., cutting across the diagonal) he wants to swap, I find it very difficult to get him to wait until we get... Fri, 14 Mar 2008 09:36:24 EST Favor Please. Could you look at my pics and tell me what breed of horse you feel Karma is?

He is just about 15 (maybe a little under)...his mane is not full...but he has the most beautiful thick tail. It just about hits the ground.

His legs are a bit stocky, and he has great feet. The farrier says they are almost perfect...may never need shoes.

When I went to adopt him I was told that he might be morgan...but my niece thinks he is a quarter horse mutt. I have no idea. lo... Tue, 11 Mar 2008 09:56:36 EST Peaches got here today. We picked up Peaches early this morning and hauled 400 miles with her. She was glad to get here and so were we. Tomorrow I'll introduce her to all the goodies in the arena and lunge her a little and then she gets to rest the remainder of the day. Don't want to work her too hard until we put a few pounds on her. Seems to us like she is a bit on the thin side. I could wish to have that problem. She is a true doll to be around. Tue, 11 Mar 2008 00:03:52 EST Horse with Stiff Back so... it's been two weeks since KC has gotten here and he's extremely stiff all along his back and has a least one obvious spot on his side. I know his previous owner didn't ride him before the trip here. And I haven't ridden him yet either (saddle doesn't fit but i'm taking care of that tomorrow). I started to introduce him to some massaging today and he really liked it along his neck - so much that his eyes were closed and his lower lip dangled exposing all his teeth. kinda funny! BUT when ... Sat, 8 Mar 2008 22:59:13 EST hello from minnesota with five horses Hi, My name is Cat and I am looking forward to being a part of this group. I need the incentive and need to loose 45 pounds. Sun, 2 Mar 2008 18:20:37 EST Wasted Hay How do you get your horses to clean up all their hay and not waste any? I hate to see good hay getting walked on, and worse, on the ground. But my mare is 28 years old, so I am afraid to shorten her rations too much either...
I usually feed outdoors, on the snow-packed area they use in front of the barn. I have a wire feeder in the walk-in stall, but they pull it out of there, too, looking for the best parts, and then walk on it. Grrrr.....
- M'lou Wed, 27 Feb 2008 20:25:32 EST KC is finally here!!! HEY! KC got in Monday afternoon but I was only able to help get him off the trailer and let him roll around for a little while before having to leave. So, I spent most yesterday with him. He's pretty excited, very vocal and oh so curious. He's also a little pick-pocketer in that he checks your fingers and pockets to see if you have a treat - this is accompanied with a little nudge just to make sure you aren't hiding anything. really rather adorable. I'm letting him settle in this week, going... Wed, 27 Feb 2008 08:17:46 EST Newbee here I'm back taking lessons after 45 years. Need some help and support getting back in the saddle - especially going from western to english! Sun, 24 Feb 2008 07:19:41 EST OOPS! About the URL Guess you can't do that unless you have a MYSPACE to log into. You can find it though if you type in Stacey Westfall's Championship Ride into your browser. Paste this to your Browser and enjoy !!!

n=vids.individual&videoid=27884293 Thu, 21 Feb 2008 11:23:25 EST I Need Reliable Good Horse Hauler in Midwest hey! anyone know of a reputable and reliable horse hauler that isn't out to completely rip you off? i'm shipping from Omaha, NE to Littleton, Colorado and am hoping to ship ASAP.

224 Sat, 16 Feb 2008 18:57:37 EST Pre-Purchase Exam... PASSED! Well, the vet found some minor things (that's his job, right) but said overall, KC is cleared for what my intended purposes are. And on a side note, an "unbelievably nice horse that draws you with his personality." That can't be all bad!!! So, the owner and I agreed on a price and as of today, KC is mine! I'm in the process of getting his paperwork put together for shipping some time first week of March from Omaha to Denver. YEAH! Fri, 15 Feb 2008 22:11:20 EST Good Afternoon I am new to the team :) nice to meet you all or "yall" as we say in OK. I dont have a horse at the time but my favorite breed is Egyptian Arabians. I hope to get a horse soon. Not too worried about the breed. Just one that is good with hurting people and easy to ride english. I used to take riding lessons when I lived in England. We were taught the "work" of a horse and were expected to take care of our mount and the tack. After awhile I even would go and work at the stable on day in addition... Fri, 15 Feb 2008 14:32:10 EST Hello from AZ! I am new to this board and just wanted to say hi to everyone! I have been riding most of my life and have a beautiful Arabian that I have raised from a yearling. One of my favorite places in the whole world is on top of him at a full gallop, there is nothing more exhilarating! Sun, 10 Feb 2008 01:56:39 EST What made you smile today? For me.... its Friday! Woo Hoo!

and when I went into the barn this morning and heard my horse nicker! Fri, 8 Feb 2008 15:10:37 EST New to this whole thing... hi! a friend told me about this so here I am. I haven't been able to ride since 2004 due to an accident while fox hunting - cracked pelvis...Just when I got myself back in shape, I re-injured it again in 2005 in a self-defense class (irony at its best) Which was followed by two steroid injections that thoughtfully added on 30+ pounds... So, i'm down to fighting off the last 5-7 pounds (depends on the day) and i'm hoping to get back in the saddle. I've even started looking at purchasing a anot... Thu, 7 Feb 2008 12:11:11 EST Hello from Massachusetts Hi , My family consists of me, my husband and two children, a boy 18 and girl 14. We all love horses. My son does not ride anymore but he likes to just spend time with them. My daughter she loves riding and showing she rides both english and western but mostly english. I am a former competitive Hunter/Jumper rider. I sold my TB gelding about three years ago because I'm an engineering student and had no more time to ride. I'd had him and competed him for 10 years and it took about 5 of those to turn him into a hunter, but I succeeded! I don't have a horse of my own right now, but my parents still do and I ride my mom's horse more than she does. So that's me, glad to b... I am 12 weeks away from my first endurance competition, so I need to get more miles in as the weather permits. The snow is making that difficult, but that's not my only concern now.

I moved my mare 2 weeks ago to a new boarding facility. She immediately went into heat and developed a case of diarrhea.

I wasn't too worried about it, figuring it was caused by change of hay at the new facility (they feed alfalfa in t...
