I am a travel nurse. This means that every three months I move from place to place. I was wondering how portable the total gym is. How effective are the workouts. Thanks Fri, 28 May 2010 03:54:17 EST How do you change up your TG workout? I've been consistent with my TG for about 2 months now and have been able to increase the number of reps and resistance levels. I'm doing the basic/beginners workout with the addition of some intermediate exercises. I know I'm getting to the point where I should change things a little. What is considered "changing it up"? Can it be considered adding challenge with more reps or resistance or does it mean introducing new exercises? I know there are tons to choose from, but I'm a little lost... Thu, 29 Apr 2010 09:39:10 EST resistance/reps I'm a little confused about the number of reps I should be doing. The TG manual says do 15-25 of each exercise, but the resource article here at SP says to do 8 - 15 when strength training. I'm getting to the point where my muscles are not exhausted at 15 reps, but I'm not sure if I should be increasing reps or going up a level (or do 3 sets instead of 2). Thanks, Beth Thu, 15 Apr 2010 14:01:04 EST Just found this group! I have a Total Body 5000 that I bought about a month ago, used, off Craigs List. I have back injuries and this is something I can use and get a workout. Unfortunately right now between it, my piano playing, my harp, and painting (I'm an artist) my wrists are complaining big-time so have had to take a break. But this sounds like a great place for me to learn new ways to use my equipment. Glad I ran across this group.
Carol Tue, 6 Apr 2010 10:23:57 EST Should I feel some pain after I use my total gym? I'm wondering if I'm doing enough. I had a little pain the first time I used it, but have had none since. Am I not pushing myself enough? I don't want to over due so that I can't use it for awhile, but I want to make sure I'm doing enough. Any comments welcome. Sun, 14 Mar 2010 13:34:34 EST Greetings, I am... 1. Name: Tom
2. I'm on the next to the last hole on the column which I think would be level six. According to the chart, I'm supposed to multiply my body weight by .40...but if the exercise uses the pulleys....(don't they ALL?) I have to halve that. So, 126 X 20% which means I'm lifting a bit over 25 pounds. According to one online calculator, I'm only burning 35 calories using the TG for 35 minutes??? That can't be right?!?

Lorraine

According the the chart in ... Wed, 6 Aug 2008 07:24:06 EST TG Routine input? I can't believe there's a TG team here! I've been using the TG for about 4 months. I don't know how long I'll be able to use it as it's the cheap model that you can't add weight to and I'm on the next to the last hole so I'm running out of the ability to raise the resistance level.

I'd really like some input on the routine I'm using though as I kind of patched it together myself. How do you log exercise done on the Total Gym? They're not listed as such among exercise options. Also, what do you use as weight? Would you actually use your body weight? I really like my Total Gym. My husband and I bought it as a Christmas gift to each other. He enjoys using it, too.
I'll be interested in knowing how you all track the exercises. Thanks. Wed, 7 May 2008 21:12:23 EST Has anyone found it a hindrance to weight loss I just received my T.G.xls and I am doing the dvd daily for six days. I have been doing this for three weeks and the scale has not even moved a pound. I have 37 pounds to lose and am wondering if maybe I shouldn't use it until I get closer to goal. Any thoughts or tips on this, I would really appreciate it. Wed, 30 Apr 2008 15:38:35 EST Need a Squat stand...wanna sell? Hi all...I purchased a 1700 club that came with a pilates bar (which I love), but I'd also like to add the squat stand that seems to have come with EVERY other model! If you're upgrading this season and wouldn't mind parting with it...sell me your squat stand! LMK if you have one to sell! MANY thanks!
Jill Wed, 23 Apr 2008 09:13:05 EST Total Gym Exercises Hi all...I've had my TG for a number of years...use it off and on. Been a SP member for a couple of years as well. I'm glad to see a TG group has been put together. I'd be interested to see what routines everyone has (schedule, exercises, etc.)

I have found that if you keep up a good routine with the TG, it really does make a difference. Also, I need to get back into some type of routine to make that difference again. Sun, 6 Apr 2008 15:43:19 EST Total Gym Users - Let's Start Again Hi, I am Iequate2. Karen is my name. Fri, 4 Apr 2008 15:46:05 EST Team Leader Vanished! I know since Ive joined this team there has been very little interaction among members. I checked out the leader's page and she hasn't posted since last October. If you all want a more active team; let's just take it upoin ourselves to make some challenges, etc. As I say this; some of you know that I am unable to exercise now. Mon, 17 Mar 2008 08:13:01 EST Infomercial Hi everyone!! I'm glad I found this team. I have a much older model of the total gym that I've been using a couple of times a week (finally after all these years) and am surprised how much I like it. Now after watching the infomercial several times, I've been thinking of upgrading to the newest model but am wondering if it's worth the expense. Does anyone here have the latest version of the total gym? What would you recommend for me?

Linda Tue, 26 Feb 2008 06:05:22 EST Total n00b! Hi everyone! My name is Natalie, I’ve been a member of Spark for about a month or so and just got the total gym a couple of weeks ago. Tue, 15 Jan 2008 12:00:23 EST Hi everyone Hi, I'm Katie. I have the basic total gym. A friend had one and I fell in love with it so when I found one I could afford I bought it. At this point though my kids have played on it more than I've used it! Last night I found a web site that will customize a total gym workout for you, kinda pricy though, $20 a month.... I figure I'll use it for a month, print off the workout all month, then canceal it. I can just continue do use the same workout just increase the reps, sets, or incline, hehehe... Mon, 14 Jan 2008 21:45:20 EST Hi everyone! I'm picking up a Total Gym this Saturday (bought it off craigslist) and I'm excited!

The guy I'm buying it from no longer has the DVD or exercise chart...should I buy the Getting Started DVD from the website or are some of the other ones better? Mon, 14 Jan 2008 20:51:09 EST Greetings, all! I'm new to Sparkpeople and the forum, obviously, so I thought I would introduce myself. I'm 43, single from Cincinnati, and I'm going to lose 35 lbs (down to a correct 155) before August of 08. That's a fact. ;)

Now a bit about my background with the TG, because I'm still not sure if it likes me or not! Mon, 17 Dec 2007 01:19:29 EST Long Term opinions on the TG? I was just watching the commercial for the Total Gym and it piqued my interest, largely in part because of the celebrities who endorse it seemed very genuine, not just acting. Especially Chuck Norris and his wife lol. I'm not usually sucked in by Celebs advertising.

My thing is I have a hard time keeping up exercise other than yoga because I either HATE the exercise (crunches for example!) or I can't continue (walking on the treadmill causes my knee to hurt, not sure why). I somet... Sat, 15 Dec 2007 10:08:45 EST Chit Chat How is everyone doing? Any super secrets or hints you'd like to share that are helping you? Wed, 22 Aug 2007 15:12:27 EST Hi TG Users! I was hoping to find a team like this! I am limited as to what I can do (broke both ankles in 2005, and I am waiting for a surgery on one now) BUT, I have a total gym and mostly, I'd like to count some of the exercises in my CARDIO workouts because it DOES get me out of breath, so I think there is cardio benefit there. Can anyone help me out with this? I can't walk properly and the stationary bike gets REALLY BORING. I'd also love to develop some short, effective routines - especially fo... I am not really a self starter on the total gym that is why I ordered the DVD's. I am hoping that once I follow along with the Dvd, it will really show me how to use the Total gym the right way and I can go from there. Has anyone else use any DVD's f...
