So no need to pound that theory home. When I start atkins I usually throw myself into some pretty hard core work outs and don't really lose that much weight. However, after reading quite a few blogs and sites about Induction, I've read that the first two weeks shouldn't be about grinding yourself into the ground with your workouts, because it actually impedes weight loss. And that you should do more moderate routines, and y... Sun, 27 Dec 2009 22:04:16 EST Newbie Hello Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a 36 yo engaged single (divorced) mom with PCOS and IR. I'm on metformin and had wonderful luck with South Beach a few years ago until the PCOS reared it's ugly head about a year and a half ago and I gained over 80 lbs in under a year. Thelma Mon, 29 Sep 2008 16:19:54 EST Rejoined, new user name I decided instead of playing around with trying to lose the weight, I'M GOING TO DO IT!!!!!
I won't be happy just trying to get down to under 200 lbs. I want back to the 142 lbs I was 3 years ago. And there's no medical reason that I know of why I shouldn't manage it. It's just going to take time and determination. So watch out everyone. You're going to see me posting a lot on my blog. THIS WEIGHT IS COMING OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!
Vicki Sun, 28 Sep 2008 18:04:10 EST 2 Days In, I'm Good Well started Atkins yesterday, and I've done great this weekend, which is usually a really hard time for me.

Haven't been that hungry actually. Anyway start walking tomorrow, after work, on the treadmill there. Start slow, build up.

Okay so I'm on my day at a time. Sun, 21 Sep 2008 23:17:06 EST New from Texas Hi - my name is Denise, I'm 52 and want to lose weight!! LOL! I'm starting with a goal of about 60 lbs. Maybe more, but right now that's all I can look at. Had a hard few years, including losing my mom and health problems and I ate every step of the way. I'm an emotional eater, as you can tell. I'm ready now to get ahold of my life and feel better. I get up tired and go to bed tired, and know this isn't normal. So here I go on this adventure again. Thanks for letting me join your grou... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 23:49:14 EST Hello Hi there, I'm Wenn, long time low-carber who got off track..again. I really do love the low carb lifestyle I just need to accept the fact it does take extra planning sometimes to stay on track.

I was thrilled to find that there are other lowcarbers on Sp 30 Fri, 19 Sep 2008 08:32:18 EST Handling opposition I was on the Atkins website and reading success stories. One woman says she gets people from all sides telling her that the Atkins way is so unhealthy (blah blah blah) but her doctor said, "No, being 255 pounds is unhealthy, Atkins is good". My doctor told me that being overweight was unhealthy, and that if I could lose weight with Atkins then I should do it. But I, too, hear from all kinds of people (Grandma, mom, health "professionals", different fitness magazines etc.) that say Atkins is ... Tue, 16 Sep 2008 17:04:48 EST Question to the professionals. I started before my book arrived, lost a few pounds the first week, and basically I was hovering around 30 net a day. Since getting the book, I lost 6 pounds the first week while staying at or under 20 net. The second week, nothing, plop. I did bend the rules and drink coffee and copious amounts of whatever I could get my hands on, but, it had Splenda in it. All in an attempt to get more water in my system. I'm not a water drinker. Well, I've come across the section about strictly limiting Sp... Mon, 15 Sep 2008 17:14:26 EST Out of ketosis? So last night hubby and I went to a friends house for dinner. I had planned it for a feast day, since I thought it unlikely the meal would be low carb. Sure enough, we had spaghetti with meat sauce, and garlic bread. I ate moderate portions, but I figure had net carbs of 120 for the day.

Last night and this morning, my keto sticks were still saying I have moderate amounts of ketones. What gives? Shouldn't I have been out of ketosis for a while? Anyone have an experience like this? Fri, 12 Sep 2008 21:15:33 EST Best Diet/Exercis se/Lifestyle gift ideas I'm trying to put together a wishlist for my b-day and christmas. Last year, someone on spark had a list of great active lifestyle/dieting gift ideas, and I got the idea to ask for a exercise heart rate monitor (which I LOVE!).

Along the same lines, I think I will ask for a bike rack and a swiss ball this year.

Just wondering if anyone else has some great gift ideas that have helped them eat better / exercise smarter / lose weight etc etc.

Lets list them h... Sun, 7 Sep 2008 09:24:28 EST Greetings from Central IL Hello, all!

I've been a member of Sparkpeople for over a year, but was not actively participating since I had grown discouraged about the possibility of losing weight. I was exercising, watching my calories (and was hungry all the time!), eating healthy unprocessed food, and feeling good- but gaining weight. So frustrating that I gave up tracking it and counting calories! I still exercised and ate healthy foods, though.

This past month, some freaky weird health problems... We made it to the end of Phase 1 without cheating and he lost 13 pounds and I lost 10 during that phase. There are differences from my former low carb diet so it has been an adjustment for me. I hope to eventually end up somewhere between the two diets. I would like to find my carb toleran... Sat, 16 Aug 2008 22:45:38 EST ketostix Can drinking lots of water affect ketostix reading. It asks for a number and says I am tracking it for today's date. Do I just put a "1" for every day that I track my food for the day? And for the weight loss team I just put how much I lost at each weigh in? I am so confused! I want to participate so badly!
Please help! Sun, 3 Aug 2008 22:47:04 EST Newbie from Tucson-help! I've been with Spark since October. Everything was gangbusters till about a month ago. I got stuck on a plateau. My doctor had recently told me I needed to increase my protein intake and cut back on carbs. She didn't give me a concrete plan so to speak. She was a little concerned about some of my blood test results and wants me to continue losing weight. I'm really new to this. I've seen a few good bits of information on Spark, especially on JNORMAN1969's page. He seems to be somewhat of an o... Sat, 2 Aug 2008 21:07:56 EST Hi from Minnesota! Hi everyone, I am just doing a quick introduction. I am still learning my way around the site. I had joined a couple years back but never ended up following through with any of it. BUT I am back with SparkPeople and I am more motivated then ever! I have seen my boyfriend become the Incredible Shrinking Man off a low carb diet so I am going to jump on the bandwagon and hopefully get the same results!!
Take care everyone I look forward to getting to know you all! 213 Thu, 31 Jul 2008 19:29:28 EST Hi from Kentucky I have been with SP for about 8 weeks and it has been a blessing. I'm happy to have found this low-carb team and it looks like a site where I can get to know you - unlike some of the 2000+ member sites!

I live in Owensboro, Kentucky. My doctor put me on what he calls the "white diet". Nothing white, lol. I've lost about 14 pounds, but I thought you were supposed to lose more quickly on the low carb. I like simple.

Just add 10 minutes per day to your total workouts... if you do no exercising, you'll get in 10 minutes a day (go for at least 5 days a week) If you already have a workout regime, you just add 10 minutes to it.

It can be 10 minutes of anything... walking, running, jumping, weights, squats, lunges, swimming, dance, etc.... whatever you want... it's a great time to try something new :)

Now... this is ME coming up with ... Tue, 29 Jul 2008 22:22:15 EST Interesting I found this very interesting, I weighed out 100 grams of grapes(which was 11 grapes), and through sparks it is 71 calories and 18 carbs. If you input just 11 grapes into the nutrition it is 39 calories and 10 carbs. So I got curious, and looked up the correct nutrients at the usda, and actually both are correct. So what this tells me is, to get the most accurate nutrition information, you need to weigh things in grams and not count the number of pieces. They must have been larger grapes... Sat, 26 Jul 2008 15:19:35 EST Hi from Canada! I've been lowcarbing since April '07 and have done really well. However, the past few weeks I have been slipping by eating buttered popcorn and sugar free gum (not a few pieces a day, but more like a pack or more!).

I'm trying to get back to 100% low carb again and get the scale moving in the right direction again.

I belong to other low carb websites, but want to keep everything in one place and since I've just joined the Bowflex Challenge forum here at SP, I though... I saw my oral surgeon on Thursday and he put together a two-week treatment plan for me. He said I must commit fully to this plan for two weeks. This plan is to help finally heal the "injury" so I can alleviate the pain:

1. I must wear my mouth guard to bed every night. (This one isn't hard as I wear it anyway).

2. Now I want to get back on track and am hopeing to stick with it.. I had good results back then and wish I would not have gotten discouraged.. But I am determined to stick t... I'm happy to have found a low carb lifestyle team that can help me with this journey. I started the low carb lifestyle back around March and have lost 38 lbs to date. I don't do Atkins, but limit myself to 60-90 carbs a day. Prior to this, I was eating 250-300 a day, so it has made a difference. I feel better and I am very happy with the way my body is reacting.

I'm hoping maybe someone can help me figure out how to balance my carbs with my fiber intake. I'm suppos... Wed, 11 Jun 2008 13:11:58 EST Starting the Atkins again........ I just started the induction period yesterday. Unfortunatly my fiance went and loaded up on fresh fruit. I want it more now than ever before. It is like most things we want it because we can't have it. Any other time it wouldn't bother me. I was suppose to start this Atkins many months ago, but didn't follow through. Here goes again.

Can I nibble on pork rinds during the induction period? Also, I have been eating sugar free jello for the sweet kick that I have been on. I'm use to ... Tue, 10 Jun 2008 15:03:14 EST Help, gaining weight on this the second time! Here is the deal. I stuck to low carb for about a month and a half and then had one long weekend, three days maybe four, of doing not quite low carb plus having a snack that I should not have all those days, including a few pieces of pizza, a few cookies....yes, yes, yes I know. I did not completely go off the low carb but did have things I should not have several times. In any event, after about four days of this, I had gained three pounds as well. I promptly went back to low carb about a we... Mon, 9 Jun 2008 06:51:30 EST Hi to All Members! Hi Everyone,

My name is Dawna and I used to be on Atkins about 6 years ago and had never felt better. Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help, I sort of lost a link and can't find it!

A few years ago I found a company that sold running wear online. They only sold their own stuff, no shoes or gadgets - but really good clothes in a great variety of colours. The prints were special - might have been "I run because I can, what's your excuse" or something similar. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If they still exist I'd really like to find them!

Thanks! Thu, 5 Jun 2008 03:25:24 EST Just ONE in JUNE Challenge May was a tuff month for me. I messed up in many areas. But I'm going to work really hard this month to get ONE area back in line.

Do you have something you need to work on or retake control of?

That's this month's challenge:

Pick one thing you want to work on... is it eating? drinking water? exercise? stopping smoking? getting in more fruits and veggies? anything.

What's yours gonna be?

For me it's my eating. Mon, 26 May 2008 08:32:13 EST Atkins ????? I started Atkins six days ago, so I am still in the induction period. The first couple of days, I ate a lot. My calorie count was pretty big for me aroun 1550 calories each day, but my carbs were right at 20 or a bit lower. Today, I have not been hungry at all. I ate 2 eggs with some cheese for breakfast and that's it. I haven't had anything else today because I am not hungry. I just realized that I need to fix dinner for my hungry family.

Is this normal?
Should I go... Sun, 25 May 2008 17:55:06 EST Making takeout food healthier? Sun, 25 May 2008 14:51:08 EST What is your typical weight loss per week? What is everyones typical weight loss per week when keeping on a low carb lifestyle? I've been staying around 40-70 net carbs a day and am losing 2 pounds or less a week. Is this typical or should it be more? I'm just trying to get a feel for my Net carb maximum. I'm wondering if I should drop lower. Sat, 24 May 2008 22:43:33 EST Hello! Hey everyone! I hit my highest weight of 225 after the birth of my third child two years ago. In the past two years, I have managed to lose and gain back the same fifteen pounds over and over again. I decided to try a different approach this time around, so I am trying Atkins. After 4 days of induction, my headaches have finally stopped. Yeah! I weigh in tomorrow, so, hopefully, I will see some weight loss. My unofficial goal is to be under 200 by June 4 (even if it's just 199). I'm e... Sat, 24 May 2008 22:22:32 EST Food idea for gals' weekend! This is the morning of day 23 for me on induction, and I have been following it to a T! The first week I lost approximately 3 pounds, the second week I gained 1.5 pounds, the third week lost half a pound, and now I gained that half pound back. After being on induction 22 days my total weight loss is 1.5 pounds (while being in ketosis the whole time I might add). That's unacceptable to me. ... Does anyone ever eat at subway, I just love it and have been avoiding it since doing low carb, but was just wondering on the wraps, do you remember when they were called Atkins friendly wraps? seems there were two, one was the chicken bacon ranch wrap, i am feeling the urge for something and that is it!!
Looking on the nutrition side here, it would be like 9 NET carbs. Does anyone know if this is correct?? Thanks, Fighting the urge to blow it!! lynn Tue, 13 May 2008 12:47:14 EST Been around... Hello everyone. Fri, 2 May 2008 10:07:55 EST What are your percentages? Hi!

I was just curious what percentages of carb/protein/fat members of this group typically eat. Since we are all on SP, we track it daily, which is something I never did before on Atkins.

I am particularly interested in fat % because mine is quite high if I keep my carbs low.

And why does SP keep changing my nutrition goals on me?
