Let's be the HEART of Sparkpeople. SparkPeople UK Midlands Team Messageboard I've a challenge idea Let's not set a challenge and just enjoy walking, cycling, swimming, pogo-stick hopping (Jude, I am talking about you here 20 ) or whatever it is we do. Then come on here and rate the enjoyment factor out of 10 as to how much fun we had doing what we do.

I will start.

Yesterday I rode my bike for 13 miles. Discovered that the first mile tells lies and would rate it as -56/10 but the following 12 were great so 9/10as taking off a point for the fog and the fac... I'm Mel :) Pleased to meet you :) Mx Wed, 22 Nov 2017 10:05:14 EST March 2017 I know we are half way through March but seeing as we were off the planet until today we'll just start from now.

We will continue to count the minutes as miles. Tue, 14 Mar 2017 18:29:06 EST To the Moon and back So far our virtual walk has taken us from Lands end to John O'Groats, back to Ben Nevis and then to Alicante and South through Africa as far as Cape Town.

As if that wasn't adventurous enough, we're off to the moon!

The 1969 voyage took 4 days, 6 hours and 45 minutes. That's 6165 minutes. So there and back would be 12,330 minutes.

If we start retrospectively by adding any exercise we did yesterday (20th January), we will have 40 days to either get to the moon ... We are working together on a virtual cycle ride to Cape Town. Currently we're in Douala, Cameroon

and our initial goal is to reach Nkayi (in Republic of Congo) during October - but if more people join us we hope to get further than that. <BR... Sat, 1 Oct 2016 07:21:42 EST September Challenge Hi everyone

We're almost on target in our goal to get to Cape Town by the end of the year - on a virtual cycle ride. (Mostly thanks to Raffie)

We have reached a place called Djougou in Benin, and in September we're aiming for Kango in Gabon. It's 1384 miles.

September is always a good time to re-focus and we'd love to have some new people join our challenge - and of course returning people.

The rules are fairly simple. We want to encourage all exerc... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 06:07:36 EST Starting over I'm back again, I've been on and off this site for many years, losing weight and then coming back many months later having gained it all back and more.

I'm like most working mothers, busy, tired and stressed but I do know I need to do this for myself.

I'm looking for any buddies that could help keep me motivated (I may need a kick up the bottom every once in a while) :) Fri, 5 Aug 2016 07:36:01 EST July Challenge - Visiting Mali We're already on our way. Heading for Cape Town and, during July, taking in a lot of Mali. The rules are the same. It's a real or virtual cycle ride. All exercise counts - walking, swimming, dancing, boxing, gardening, spring cleaning, weight training. You don't have to count up the actual mileage as it's a virtual cycle ride. So all exercise counts as 10 miles an hour - or one mile for every 6 minutes of exercise. (If you're actually cycling you may prefer to use the actual mileage.) This mo... Fri, 1 Jul 2016 03:11:24 EST We're off to Cape Town!! Hello everyone.

Grab your walking boots, and lots of water. We're off to Cape Town, but maybe not all in one month! A1 will tell us where we're headed for during June.

The rules are the same. Any kind of exercise counts at an average cycling speed. 10 miles for every hour of exercise or 1 mile for 6 minutes of exercise. If you're actually cycling then it may be easier to count actual miles.

Anyone can join in - if you live in the Midlands, have an aunty in the... Wed, 1 Jun 2016 02:35:46 EST Fun webstie. Made me smile anyway

If you put in the weight that you have lost, it will tell you what that represents.
If I put in my initial weightloss, last year, of 42lbs, it tells me that I lost the weight of a Moose's Antlers.

Since sneaking a bit of weight back on, I have recently lost the weight of an Ostrich Egg :)

It gave me a smile for the day. Wed, 18 May 2016 09:58:46 EST May challenge. We're off to Alicante. Well, we got to Disneyland with lots of spare miles, so now we're off to Alicante. Only 990 miles so we can do it easily. All exercise counts and we're tracking everything at cycling speed - 10mph. So an hour's gardening, swimming, weight training, etc gets tracked here as 10 miles.
Anyone is welcome to join in.

I've just walked to Church and back. 50 mins = 8 miles

Faith. 8 miles. Total 8 miles. 982 miles to go Sun, 1 May 2016 08:28:24 EST April Challenge. 'Cycling' to Disneyland, Paris Here we are having spent March going up and down Ben Nevis. So in April our challenge is a virtual cycle ride to Disneyland, Paris.

All exercise counts. A conservative cycling speed is 10mph so an hours exercise of any kinds counts as 10 miles. 6 minutes exercise is one mile. Of course, if you are actually riding a bike, you might want to record actual mileage instead of virtual mileage.

The first leg of the journey is Ben Nevis to Dover (579 miles)
Then 21 miles t... Thu, 31 Mar 2016 17:43:37 EST March - Ben Nevis Challenge While we're in Scotland our March Challenge is to get up Ben Nevis and back down again once, or maybe twice - even three times if we want to. According to a website I found, in winter we need to allow 8 hours to get up there, so I'm working on 15 hours up and down. That works out at 900 fitness minutes or just under 30 minutes a day.

So March is not about covering great distances - just about setting our goals, maybe 900, 1800 or even 2700 fitness minutes during the month.
<... Thu, 25 Feb 2016 13:54:52 EST Spring Watch Is the world starting to wake up where you are?

I went to Himley Hall yesterday. I expected to see snowdrops.

But you can probably imagine how amazed I was to see this.

Spring must be on the way.

By the way, anyone know what these are?

... Fri, 29 Jan 2016 13:21:10 EST Lands End to John O'Groats February Challenge This is a chance to work together as the Midlands team.

The shortest route from Lands End to John O'Groats is 812 miles, though maybe we should take the figure on the signpost 874 miles. I wondered whether we could combine together as a team to cover that distance by walking, running, cycling, dancing, swimming, using the rowing machine - anything that isn't motorised. It would be... Fri, 29 Jan 2016 13:11:26 EST January 2016 Challenge I will try for 25 miles in the pool & to lose another 7lbs by the end of the month. Fri, 1 Jan 2016 07:37:11 EST December 2015 Challenge Just try to get to the pool at least twice a week and after the blip putting 4lbs back on last week I aim to get to 5 1/2 stones & keep to that through Christmas. Tue, 8 Dec 2015 11:18:49 EST November 2015 Challenge Hope to beat my October total of miles. Already managed to gain my 5 Stone award by the 5th Nov. so aiming for 5 1/2 by end of Nov. Tue, 10 Nov 2015 07:11:53 EST October 2015 Challenge My goals for October is to beat my mileage in the pool for September which was 22 miles & to have lost 5 stone by the end of the month. Thu, 1 Oct 2015 11:03:56 EST September Challenge I haven't quite set myself one as yet.
I do aim to ride for at least 250 miles, which will go through my annual goal, and get in the gym at least twice a week while I am still living at this flat (Until Friday 18th).

It might take a couple of days to join at the new gym when we get to the new place, so I need to be sensible about my goals this month. If my goals crash and burn, nobody dies so I won't beat myself up about them.

I think that the big goal this month,... Fri, 4 Sep 2015 05:23:22 EST Favourite places to walk Sadly we don't have any seaside in the West Mids. So I'm just wondering if people have any great ideas for going walking.

My favourite is probably along the River Severn at Bewdley. (Unfortunately there is also an excellent fish and chip shop by the river. I resisted today though - I made up some salads to take with us.) My friend and I walked about 6 miles but it would have been possible to go a lot further.

Any more ideas? Sun, 2 Aug 2015 17:07:07 EST August 2015 challenge Although I hate to be boring, I'm putting 310 miles into the challenge pot and at least 2 gym visits a week (up to the 26th Aug when my 6 week membership ends)

So far the scores on the doors are: 26.5 miles done and dusted so that's about 8% of my target. I hope to double that tomorrow.

Last month was disappointing. I did about 327 miles in the end, which was over target but I had 5 days after reaching goal to ride and all the weather did was rain, rain and then rain so... Sat, 1 Aug 2015 16:48:20 EST July 2015 Challenge No prizes for guessing mine.
310 miles in the challenge pot. 16 done and dusted so far. I might add to this as the month goes on, depending on work and whatnot/ Wed, 1 Jul 2015 13:54:55 EST June 2015 Challenge 3 days in to the new month and I'm 16 miles into my June challenge, which is to ride my bike for 300 miles.

Let's have the personal monthly challenges up here 224 Summer is close at hand so we have lots and lots of daylight for the next 8 weeks or so. I'm going to make the most of it. Wed, 3 Jun 2015 01:07:31 EST getting too fit! I started riding my bike again back in March. The ride I chose took about 1 hour - a nice workout. After a week or two it was only taking 45 mins so I lengthened the ride tp get it back to 1 hr. Now that ride only takes 45 mins. Looks like I must lengthen again.
But I'm not complaining. Tue, 26 May 2015 16:51:06 EST December slump I just read an article about maintaining fitness during the holiday season. As December is always very busy (even if you're super organised), I thought I would try and do a short spark people video every day in December (except Christmas day). Sun, 26 Jan 2014 13:33:33 EST Obsession Hi everyone. I am from Lincoln and work in IT. Keeping my weight down seems like a constant battle. But this site has really motivated me although bit worried I am getting obsessed. Driving my husband mad because I keep fishing the food wrappers out the bin that he has thrown away when making tea, so that I can record all the nutritional values. Can get a bit messy sometimes. Why do they have to make the writing so small, I struggle even with magnifying glass sometimes. I suppose I'm not stri... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 16:53:13 EST Healthy year for me! So far I have done 149 miles and have a 20 miler planned today and 26 miles on a social ride in Ipswich tomorrow. That will leave 7 days and 55 miles. That's just shy of 8 miles left per day.
