SparkPeople Eugene Sparkers Team Messageboard This team is for all SparkPeople members in the Eugene area. Welcome! SparkPeople Eugene Sparkers Team Messageboard Starting over after 7 years Hi, I am a stay at home mom of 3. We moved back to Oregon and the to the Eugene area 3 years ago. I started SP 8 years ago (I think it was) at almost 300. I completed that journey in 2010 at 180. Over the next 6 years a lot of things happened and changed. one relationship ended another started, 4 different moves just to name the major ones. Here I am today starting anew at 242. I rejoined last week and have lost 4 pounds since then. Only to have my mom say shouldn't you have lost more by now.... Sat, 28 May 2016 12:48:32 EST Post it!! Post it!! Chapter II Sure; in the end we are the only one who really has a reason for us to control or lose weight!!

Even though no one is looking over your shoulder you really should post what you do. It is amazing what a great motivator it is when you review your activity and calorie intake for the day.

I find I check what I have eaten for the day when deciding whether I am going to eat that ice cream bar or have a drink. If I have used my target for the day it is much easier to pass on ... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 22:02:58 EST Wow!!! It's Hot Outside!! This is the kind of weather where I head back to the gym. I am an outside kind of person but when the weather is too wet or like this recent heat spell; I head for the gym.
It is not a very good idea to exert yourself in the heat when you have not had the time to be accustomed to it.
Keep moving but keep it where you do not hurt yourself!! See you back on the trails when it cools back down. Mon, 1 Jul 2013 20:27:56 EST Greetings and Felcitations! Hi I am Mike. I've lived in Eugene for nearly four years. Married for 25 years, no kids. This is my second time loosing weight from a very high max! Back in 2000 I started a low carb life style and lost 245 lbs.(I have pictures). Maintained the weight for 3 years, then lost my job in 2006, had a nervous breakdown, had to move from San Francisco and nearly ate myself to death until I reach 407 lbs. For a 5'7" man of 50+ that is very painful.

I started this new pass last Apri... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 20:07:08 EST SPRING into ACTION For those who are going to start walking next week or right after Spring Break or any future date; I dare you to start now!!!! I challenge all the well intended "start after...." personal promises to start right now. Make this one of the best Springs you have ever had!!!!
If you are ready for this challenge just encourage others by posting your accomplishment. Nike says Just Do It. Phil baby; that is just what we are going to do!!!!!! Wed, 20 Mar 2013 23:24:43 EST Just joined I just joined Spark People and thought I should post a hello. I'm using a couple other tracking programs as well but don't really end up using them much due to community drama. Hopefully this one is much better! Wed, 20 Feb 2013 16:23:28 EST The New Year???? Is it really?? Is this a new year or are we focusing on keeping the good habits we worked on creating last year??? I am amazed at the Resolution Revolution that goes on every year. Good habits don't start with a NEW start but a shift in what we eat and what we do. Forget the resolutions and key on an objective of what you want/need in your life. GOOD LUCK It's All Good Tue, 22 Jan 2013 01:48:52 EST Have I seen you on the trails???? This has been a great time to walk the trails of Ridgeline and Mt Pisgah!! Have I seen you there?
If you enjoy these two great hike/walks post it and let me know. I'm so sure I am not the only Sparker there.
If you have a favorite spot let me know. Mon, 5 Nov 2012 22:27:32 EST ??Now that it has started to rain?? I am sure a lot of people are like me and love being outdoors when it is nice; but then.....
Ok! so it is going to rain on our parade!! Are you ready to bring your activities indoors so you can maintain what you hav accomplished over the summer??
A way to keep from dropping the ball on your fitness is to start right now to get back to the gym or working out to a video or whatever!!
The longer I avoid getting back in the rainy weather routine, the tougher it is to start. The c... Tue, 30 Oct 2012 18:25:28 EST Back again after 5 years I lost 30 lbs about 3 years ago and have slowly gained it back this past year or so. Tonight, after seeing on FB that a friend was using Spark People, I decided to give it a try gain. I suggested to another friend that we both try it so I have 2 friends to work with. I really need to lose weight to feel better after having back surgery in June. 249
Fri, 28 Sep 2012 00:54:29 EST ???What helps you the most from Sparkpeople??? For me Spark's help has changed over the time I have been using the site. First it was to tally calories, then it was to monitor my calorie intake vs. calorie use. For the last six months it has taken a totally new use; Tracking my exercise or activity level.
By posting what I do and occasionally reviewing it I find it motivates me to take the extra mile walk or to work in the garden a little longer.
This new use has kept my activity level and calorie used high enough to maintain ... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 00:49:47 EST Weekly Weigh-In's I don't see a thread for this yet, so I'm making one! I know for myself posting my weight weekly helps to keep me motivated. Saturdays will be my weigh-in days, though I'm sure not everyone is the same.

Today, I'm starting over. I fell off the wagon after I had my surgery and gained back around 20 pounds. In the morning I weigh in and get to see where exactly I'm starting from again!

So go ahead! Post your weekly weigh-ins! Sat, 11 Aug 2012 04:44:14 EST Just Joined, Looking to Lose 100 LBs! I've just joined Sparkpeople and am looking to lose 100 lbs. Because of a busy lifestyle I have trouble committing to a gym on a regular basis, so my weight loss will have to come from diet and a commitment to staying more active in general.

I'm looking forward to seeing my goals through. Tue, 24 Jul 2012 12:57:31 EST Gardening!! Spark has an article on beginners gardening. I love the results of what I get from my garden; but the real payoff is in the energy (calories) I burn!
The produce is important because it encourages eating more veggies and probably more nutritious than most store bought. As far as saving money, I really doubt that is possible with a small garden because of starts, water cost, fertilizer etc.
But again; you can help trim the pounds doing some gardening while also helping with your ... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 13:29:38 EST Where Do You Go? ??Are Mt Pisgah, Alton Baker. Spencers Butte and Bike Paths part of your vocabulary??

If they are not and you need something other than just burning calories to get you moving; consider spending time using these great local sites to soak up some of what this area is all about!

If you have a favorite place; post it so others might be motivated to go there also.

See you there!!!!

Sat, 28 Apr 2012 18:33:43 EST Post It! Post It! Whether it is good or bad .. Post It!

I am no psychologist; but I do know that posting what you eat and what you burn each day is motivating in itself to change habits.

Be couragous today and if you are not posting (honestly) what you eat; Start!!!!!

I was losing some weight before I found this site, but it was a struggle. As soon as I started posting and getting a real read on what I was doing, it got easier.

I posted faithfully for a half year an... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 11:52:34 EST What should I weight??? I know there is a lot of reliance on the BMI, even by the medical profession. I have always considered that too much a "cookie cutter" approach to finding the right weight. I have heard more than a few people over the years kind of rub it in to someone about how they rated body fat based on the BMI.
I think the best way to look at it is; what do I want to be able to do? What do I think I should weight given the kind of body I inherited from my parents? And lastley; what do I want to ... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 12:52:41 EST Wake Up Eugene!!! I am not much of a group gruppie but it seems like a lot of us might benefit from some planned walks/hikes/or.
I really dig the Spark site and it has helped me a lot. What I need, and I'm sure almost everyone; is more people who want to get out and walk, go to the gym, or whatever; to get us off our duff and out getting healthy.
I realize we are not all in similar physical shape and common activities might be a little iffy to start, but if enough people got together we would find t... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 01:51:00 EST Hello! Hi I'm new to sparkpeople. I am a single parent and a college student and I didn't really prioritize my weight during the last few years... gaining about a hundred pounds so far...... I'm hoping that I can finally get serious about my weight loss and keep myself motivated enough to have some real results... My overall goal is to lose between 100-140 pounds by June of next year... Sat, 10 Mar 2012 18:15:25 EST Ballroom Dancing? Hello,

My boyfriend used to dance several years ago, and I'd like to learn. However, neither of us know where I can get good shoes around here. I need something very supportive, or my feet will hurt horribly in a short amount of time, but my regular shoes aren't slick enough. I went to a few stores, but I couldn't find anything appropriate.

Does anyone know of a good type of shoe that will work for ballroom dancing, and will support my weight? Sat, 7 Jan 2012 04:53:01 EST Looking for a walking buddy If anyone on this team works at the UofO campus, I'm looking for someone to walk with daily during the week. From my office to the Duck Store is exactly one mile round trip so I figured it would be very easy to do every day to get some extra exercise in.

Please let me know if you'd like to join. I'll be back on campus on Tuesday 1/3 and plan to start then, Thu, 29 Dec 2011 19:02:28 EST MERRILLANN188 I am brand new to all of this - starting two days before Christmas! I am hoping to lose 31 pounds by April - a huge task with the dreary days of winter ahead. SparkPeople looks like a good place to begin! Fri, 23 Dec 2011 16:29:15 EST Hello I am new to the board and have just started what I anticipate to be an exciting journey. I've just had rny (after a very careful, long time consideration) and feel good about the decision, although I know it's not a decision everyone should or would make. My doctor suggested that this is a great place to track what I eat as well as finding information. I've used WW to track but they don't track protein and this site does.

I hope you will welcome me on my journey.

Dian... I do a craft blog in my (non-existant) spare time. I just moved here from Missouri. I found while setting my fitness goals. I have a lot to lose (180 lbs) but I'm motivated and I know it's possible. I broke my leg (ligament and tendon damage too) working at camp this summer, so the recovery period has been a long one, but now I'... Sun, 27 Nov 2011 14:27:24 EST hello My name is Danuta. I joined SparkPeople because I need help and motivation to get back to the place I once was. I stepped on gym scale the other day and it shook me. 12 pounds heavier and 12 pounds unhappier. I try to keep it in perspective and I know its not enormous amount of extra pounds but as you all probably know its all about how we feel in our bodies. With you help I believe I will reach my goal and maintain it. I hope to find some runners here as well or motivate you to start running... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 15:48:08 EST Hello Team! Fully intended to take a break from the discipline of monitoring caloric intake for a couple weeks afterward, which I have done.
Well this week I promised I would begin to work toward a goal of 200 lbs or less by year end. Based on todays weight that leaves me 18 pounds away.
Probably more than I can drop by then but Fall weather is usually great for a lot of walking and hikeing so sho... Sat, 27 Nov 2010 21:31:25 EST How do you plan to stay on track for Thanksgiving? Hi Eugene Sparkers:
My plan to stay on track this week is easy since I am in charge of dinner!! I am not making a huge feast this year. I am making spinach and feta stuffed chicken breasts, some nice roasted veggies, hummus, a green salad with cranberries and almonds, and a low-cal pumpkin cheesecake recipe from SP for dessert. I am again counting calories and trying my darndest to develop new and healthy habits. I really want this, nothing has stuck in the past and any weight I have lost has come back (and then some). Tue, 6 Nov 2007 15:00:26 EST Hello! Hi! I just joined this week... want to start being more active... which is hard with my job. My main problem is self-motivation! Looking forward to getting healthier with all of you! 254 Thu, 1 Nov 2007 18:19:01 EST No motivation I am having a horrid time finding motivation to exercise. I'm doing really well with the diet part and tracking my calories, but I haven't been loosing any weight and I know it's because I don't exercise. I'm completely lazy. I would join a gym but we can't afford that, and I'd probably find excuses to not go even if I did. Help!!!!!
