My current one wanted to put me on TriCor (cholesterol medication) and, after a couple calls to doctors in my family, ALL of them recommended not to go on it because I was way too young. So we talked alternatives, and I told him I'd drop to what he deemed to be a healthy weight. I hit that two weeks ago, and can't get the guy to return my calls. So enough is enough.

Can anybody recommend a good primary care physician in Boston? Id... Tue, 17 Nov 2009 13:39:38 EST Quitting Smoking While Losing Weight? Tue, 3 Nov 2009 19:51:28 EST Halfway through, but new to Spark Hi guys,

I'm glad to see there's a Boston-based support group other than WW! I'm a 26yo guy in Allston. I started making a serious attempt at weight loss back in August after getting word from my doc that I have high triglycerides. The doctor told me 190 is a healthy weight for me, but I definitely h... Tue, 3 Nov 2009 09:07:39 EST New Things Hi - I just moved to Boston in June and started working a few weeks ago. Now that I'm back on a schedule with a job I've decided it's time to get back into good exercise habits. I'm also struggling with making healthy meals now that I don't have all day to plan/make dinner and make homemade snacks. I'm hoping that this website will help me to not allow work to take over exercise and meal times. Fri, 9 Oct 2009 17:07:01 EST Hi! Hi everyone! Just joined SP a week ago, and finding my way around the site. Hope to see you all around soon! Sun, 20 Sep 2009 20:46:27 EST hello, I'm new Hi all,

I'm from the metro Boston area and work in Cambridge. I've been working on losing the tons of weight I gained through my pregnancy. I've been on and off of SP for a couple of years now and I'm back on it because I just really want the weight gone once and for all.

I've finally got support from my DH and most of my interaction on SP has been my blog.

I'll mostly lurk here as I just don't have much time as I work full-time. Thu, 3 Sep 2009 16:35:17 EST Hi from Waltham Hi, I'm Maggie, new to SP, and though I've lived in Waltham since December 08, still fairly "new" to the Boston area -- there is so much to discover here! Fri, 28 Aug 2009 15:10:08 EST QOTW - Team leadership Hello all,

I have been enjoying my summer days of more exercise, more sorting through old accumulated clutter to tidy up the house, and more involvement with the team. I'm getting busier again already, though, and I'd love to see the team stay active and enjoying each other. There are a lot of great people in the Boston area and we all know different parts of the city and things to see and do.

So, I'm recruiting for team leadership help. There is nothing that is a MUS... Mon, 3 Aug 2009 08:48:56 EST It's Time! Hi everyone! I've actually been actively using SP for a few months now, but this is my first post. This is an incredible website, and an incredible community! I commend all of you (us) on your commitment to your goals, your perserverence, and your unending support for the daily struggles that weight loss and a healthy lifestyle bring! Thanks for all of it!

I'm basically a yo-yoer when it comes to weight loss. I have gained and lost 50 lounds at least 4 times in my life. This, my fi... Fri, 24 Jul 2009 09:19:29 EST QOTW - July 20 to 26 Okay, we are off to a great summer filled with fabulous activities here in the fairest city of all... now to stop for a healthy bite to eat!

So here is this week's question - where do you like to go grab some healthy food? If there are healthy and unhealthy options available, just be sure to highlight what nutritious and low calorie options are available. Location, hours, and price ranges are helpful too, if you happen to know them.

Enjoy! 4 Tue, 21 Jul 2009 16:08:15 EST Hello from the South Shore I live on the South Shore. Mon, 29 Jun 2009 10:30:33 EST July - Hydration Challenge Another month is upon us and one of these days it really will stop raining and get hot. When that happens, watch out!

There is actually nothing magic about "8" glasses of water. The precise amount each person needs depends on how much water your body uses to run itself, how much you sweat, how hot it is where you live and work, hot much water is in your foods, etc. For example, do you snack on grapes or pretzels? SP is great- the meal pages have helped me to take a very close look at what I was eating- what an eye-opener! I am looking for fitness buddies north of Boston.
Anyone interested in forming a walking group or already have one, I would love to talk to you about joining up. I do go to the gym, but walking/jogging is my favorite exercise right now-and my dog loves it too! Tue, 23 Jun 2009 07:33:36 EST QOTW - June 14 - 20 There seems to be so much contradictory information out there about how much exercise is "enough".

One the one hand, I saw that experts recently increased the recommended exercise amount to 60 min on most days of the week. Yet, I also hear all the time that exercise can be effective even when done for only 10 minutes at a time. I hope the latter is true, because I get so darned busy and I rarely have a full hour at a time to dedicate to exercise. I was poking around SP and I f... The past month wasn't one of my best. Too much going on and not enough self care. This month will be better, but first I need to set my sights on where I want to go.

So, that leads to our question this week:

What goal do you have for yourself this month? It is important to focus and not scatter our efforts, so keep things simple if you can. For those who enjoy more than one goal at a time, you can select a goal fo... Sun, 31 May 2009 15:14:19 EST Yo-yo dieting I came across an article online about how Kirstie Alley and Oprah Winfrey are struggling to keep the weight off. I just wanted to post this as a reminder to everyone (including me) that this HAS TO BE THOUGHT OF AS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE, NOT A DIET!! We have all heard the guideline to eat 5 servings of fruits and or veggies per day. Now it seems a combined total near 9 is an even healthier goal. But the typical American diet doesn't even come close to that.

So here is the challenge: Track your food completely for a couple of days, taking notice of what fruits and veggies you normally eat.

Then, challenge yourself to add 1 fruit serving and 1 vegetable servi... Mon, 4 May 2009 18:24:56 EST New to team, happy to be here :) I'm getting closer to my goals and figured that joining a local team would be a good idea to get an idea of what fun activities there are to do in the Boston area as it warms up. Tue, 21 Apr 2009 10:09:19 EST QOTW - April 11 - 18 Hi team,

We are starting a new question a bit early this week. There is so much going on for people these days, with many people out of work and those who do have jobs often working longer hours. The news is all ups and downs as well, with one hopeful story and the next reminding us that times are hard.

So this week's question is simple - how are you doing? How are things for you?

Best,
Sheila Fri, 10 Apr 2009 11:20:58 EST Project Bread's Walk for Hunger? Hello there. Sat, 4 Apr 2009 15:21:15 EST QOTW - 4/5 to 4/11 As the weather becomes more agreeable, and also more unpredictable, it is time to re-discover outside activities and get moving out in Nature more than we did when it was chilly.

So, the question this week is, what is your favorite springtime outdoor activity? How will you add activity to your routine now that we have more daylight and more sunny days?
