I have been on a roller coaster ride for years and a true yo yo effect has taken its toll. I have been a mom, doctor, nurse, pet sitter, cook, wife, teacher, dish washer, held and hold a full time job, etc. everything to everyone but to myself. It just isn't fair to be so good to others and not to myself. I don't even know who I am anymore if I don't have a title. My children are grown and take care of themselves for th... Just dropping a line to see how my team mates are doing these days. Fall is in the air. The kids are back in school. Some of us are able to carve out one hour to get some exercise in, even if it's just walking. Yes, mall walking does count! I'm racking up 10,000 steps a day! It's easy after I get my 3 miles done in the morning - that takes care of 8,000+ right there. The rest comes pretty easily as I go throughout my day.

What are you doing these days?

Gorgeous! Tue, 15 Oct 2013 16:32:11 EST Back to School - Back to Basics Hello Homies!
It's that time of year again. The kids are back in school and we now have a few moments to ourselves. I've never officially done a 5k but I'm sure I'd survive a run/walk. More like jog/run.

Funny that as I'm posting this there is a banner advertisement on this page about this exact run. Maybe its a sign I should give it a shot. Wed, 24 Jul 2013 09:55:21 EST Just Starting Out Hi Nola SparkPeople! I'm new to the site and to the group. Just wanted to say hello! Mon, 1 Jul 2013 17:51:24 EST I'm down 16 pounds! Since April, i've been on a serious grind - exercising daily (except Sundays) and eating smaller portions AND cutting waaaay down on carbs. So far the results are amazing! I have lost weight, my clothes fit less tight and i can walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. I'm not gonna sugar-coat it- it has been rough! I haven't had a drink since January and i haven't tasted cake or candy either. I've even learned to enjoy my coffee and teas without a sweetener. Imagine that!
... What an inspiration. :) Fri, 31 May 2013 22:27:35 EST Sleep, Sweet Sleep Hey Guys & Dolls,
I have to get this off my chest. I need more SLEEP! For the past 2 days, i've woke up, turned off the alarm and went right back to bed. Telling myself 'I'll wake up in time to get my walk done' or 'it's too early to go walking this morning' or i would listen for the sweet sound of rain and the excuse to turn over. Yes, i've been lazy. I need more sleep. How difficult is it to go to bed at a decent hour? How difficult is it to turn off the computer or the TV and just go ... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 01:20:16 EST Storm Come and Gone I'm feeling very blessed to be back home safe and sound, with my power on and no damage to my house. A large pecan tree came down next door and caught on the power lines over the garage. No damage to the garage or the car, and Entergy came to cut down the tree. My neighbor just moved in a week ago -- what a welcome! Sun, 2 Sep 2012 09:58:05 EST Storm Coming! It looks like the storm is coming at us, although we should get the edge of it. I'm headed out to stay with my folks in BR -- lines at the gas stations were ridiculous, matched only by the price hike since yesterday. The CDC has released its annual "Obesity Map," showing that once again, if it weren't for Mississippi, Louisiana would be dead last. They're artists' interpretations of the "bead dogs" kids (used to) make from Mardi Gras left-overs. I finally checked it out on the web -- the project is sponsored by the LSPCA to raise money and awareness. It will be on display until the end of September, and then the dogs will be auctioned off. Some have already been sold, and (I hope!) at least a few will remain on permanent display. Individuals can get in on the auction -- start... Or ideas on how to make it healthy? I suppose you could trap the Easter Bunny when he hops into your yard, throw away all the chocolate and make a rabbit stew... Don't tell the kids I said that! ;)
Martha Wed, 4 Apr 2012 16:16:00 EST Back after a long time Hi everyone. I'm back on SP after a 2 year hiatus. I am interested in making a list of restaurants in New Orleans where you can pick healthy selections. Have you had the experience of going into a restaurant, looking at the menu, and seeing absolutely nothing that looks like you can safely eat it? I know I have. So what about it - where do y'all go out to eat when you want to stick to your plan? Sun, 17 Feb 2008 10:40:51 EST Just Starting Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and looking for new friends and support. I live in the New Orleans East area and we don't have much of anything as far as gyms or restaurants out here post katrina. I love this site so far and looking forward to learning new things and making cyber friends. 247 Wed, 6 Feb 2008 14:39:29 EST Louisiana Team These guys have a very active team. There are several people from New Orleans, too. Check it out! Mon, 21 Jan 2008 09:11:18 EST New to the site I just joined Spark and would love to talk with other ones from the New Orleans area. Give me some pointers...I can use all the help!

sjdebold Sun, 20 Jan 2008 21:24:51 EST Hello New Orleans! I just joined today, and am committed to losing 50 pounds by my 50th birthday in December! It's so tough in New Orleans with all of this great food we have, but I'm hoping all of you can help me. I'm single, so all we do is go out to dinner for fun, and the will power then is whew....kinda low. I'll be reviewing this website all week to get accustomed to it, so please send me any of your success stories. I only have a computer at work so I won't be online in the evening. Thanks everyone,... Not doing too well on the diet thing. Been kinda depressed as of lately that I never seem to have the time to go and exercise. I get home from work, dinner needs to be made, laundry, help kid with homework, etc. By the end of it all, I am just too damned beat to motivate myself. That really is my issue, I am not a bad eater. The majority of the time I do quite well getting the proper fruits and veggies etc into my meals, I do not eat fast food or even restau... Wed, 28 Nov 2007 16:11:50 EST Back... I joined this last Spring and just lost track with everything. It worked really well for the time I was doing it so I thought I'd give in another shot. I need to lose my postK 35. I'm glad I saw this group b/c like someone else said the lifestyly down here makes it difficult at times b/c it's easy to stray. I think my biggest hurdle is actually stopping at the gym which is nicely situated right between home and work. Mon, 1 Oct 2007 21:45:53 EST hello I used the be in the Mississippi Sparkers group, but since in 2 weeks I'm moving to New Olreans to start my new job at The Gambit I figured I should switch over to this one! :) Sun, 30 Sep 2007 23:24:12 EST Another Newbie Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in New Orleans, and teach in Jefferson Parish. Now that things are settling down at school, I hope to get on a program and loose all the weight that I gained after Katrina. UGH!
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and getting much needed support.

249 Sun, 30 Sep 2007 09:36:20 EST Just joined..... Well, I just joined Spark and am hoping that this will be the time that I can finally get rid of the 90+lbs that I gained while pregnant with my son who is now 3 1/2yrs old. Very embarassing. I was always the cute skinny chick and now not so much. But I am on a mission - my husband and I are going to SF for the Saints game Oct 24th and we are going to spend a few days in Napa. I want to be able to wear some cute things on the trip. So I am aiming to try to lose 20+lbs. Is that unrealist... Tue, 11 Sep 2007 17:08:28 EST Brand New Sparkler Hi There Everyone!
I'm brand new to Sparkpeople and decided to introduce myself. I've just had enough of being overweight and everything that entails. I'm excited that there is a New Orleans group on here because I find that on other message boards I visit, nobody really gets the New Orleans lifestyle (i.e. parties, drinking, food, all year long). It is a very difficult place to stay disciplined, but I'm determined to do it this time. I have about 40 pounds to loose, and want to gain som... Tue, 11 Sep 2007 12:24:42 EST Just joined Hello. I am looking for fellow Sparkers in New Orleans! Fri, 24 Aug 2007 11:51:25 EST Drastic measures Hi, I have found my way here after the last 2 years of hell and am sure have played havoc on everyone's body, sould and emotions. I think I have moved past Katrina now and am ready to channel all that anger, angst and despair into losing those 40 pounds that have crept up. I got an elliptical machine with some LRA money and have been trying to use it 30 minutes a day, which is an achievement, as I broke my ankle gutting last September. My husband and I have gone on a vegetable/rice/fish di... Sat, 28 Jul 2007 12:26:55 EST rebounder Do rebounders work and which one is the best? Thu, 12 Jul 2007 19:25:07 EST
