I have rheumatoid arthritis that has been mostly controlled over the past four years. While that is not causing pain, the damage to my joints is straining under the extra weight.

I started at 230 on my vacation mi... Mon, 11 Nov 2019 11:53:38 EST I Need an Accountability Buddy Alright so I need a buddy. I need someone who can help me be accountable and help keep one another on track. Motivation and support. But I am picky as I always seem to talk to ones (more so in my real life) that want to help but: 1) are not overweight 2) not needing to lose weight 3) do not have as much as I have to lose. I also would like someone who is in a similar situation as me (I'm really not trying to sound picky and awful, it just helps when someone is in the same situation). I am 5ft... I have been on and off of SparkPeople for over a decade and I am honestly at my heaviest and least healthy point in life right now. I am a 39yr old single mom of 2 teens. Unfortunately, my weight is at 210lbs. I gained a lot of weight 16.5yrs ago when I was pregnant with my daughter (she weighed in at 9lb, 4oz) and I couldn't ever loose the weight but I guess you could say the good news was that I never gained weight in the last 16yrs. About 1yr ago, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and gained 10lbs while on treatment for that but have not been able to loose it. My Dr's have never said they consider me overwei... Mon, 21 May 2018 13:24:47 EST New to the Team! Hello everybody! I am coming back to SparkPeople after maybe four years. This time I have my husband serious about losing weight and getting fit with me. I'm 31 years old, so I left my "20 Somethings" group and joined this one! Wed, 16 May 2018 10:03:52 EST New to the Team! Hi All--

I had some success with SparkPeople some years ago, and enjoyed the overall experience of being part of an online community where I could air grievances, share successes and discuss interesting things on a platform of (relative) anonymity, and away from fit (read: braggy/humble-braggy) friends.

I kinda hate tracking, but I do like eating well and working out. Actually, I like the feeling I have after eating well and working out, assuming I can resist the urge to... Sun, 22 Apr 2018 10:50:04 EST Here we go again Hello!
I am 37 and about to embark on an entirely new career, one that will be far more active than my current and previous situations. I have sat at a desk my entire professional life, but my husband, who has his own plumbing business, has asked me to join him as an apprentice plumber so he has reliable help, till he can properly grow and hire new people. Sat, 7 Apr 2018 22:38:58 EST Endomorph Blues Hello everyone.

I've been struggling with weight loss for the last 8 years or so. As an endomorph with certain health issues (hiatal hernia with GERD, anxiety-induced asthma, clinical depression, stress & boredom-eating), I find it particularly more difficult to lose weight than most other people.

It frustrates me to no end when I see and hear people state unthinkingly that fat people can easily lose if only they stop eating as much or hit the gym regularly. As a fa... Mon, 2 Apr 2018 15:15:03 EST Fitness plan suggestions Okay, so, i have proven to myself that I can and will get up every morning to work out. Sat, 17 Mar 2018 14:52:42 EST Hello everyone Hey everyone, Im heidi and I am 32 years old and from utah. I am new to sparkspeople and ready to change. One of the changes I am doing is going to do portion control, and I have been exercising every morning with my fitboard...yes, that weird board at walmart that rocks. They have a dvd you can follow along with every morning, and that works for me to do it with the video. Anyone else from utah? 306 Fri, 16 Mar 2018 12:38:59 EST Sticking to it.. So I've ignored this site for a bit now, but not anymore. I've recently gained 50 pounds quickly, also am retaining a ton of water. I don't like the way I feel. The exercise bike I ordered came today, I did 20 minutes. In total I need to lose about 100 pounds. I won't know for sure until I get closer because I've always had a lot of muscle mass.

I'm not losing for anyone but myself. I have never worn shorts and never go outside in a tank top. Thu, 22 Feb 2018 10:56:17 EST A little about me and My epiphony I am 39yrs old, I have asthma, diabetes and have been overweight my whole life. I recently had that moment where I realized I need to start taking my own advice. You see I happen to be a LPN and find myself shaking my head at some of my patients when they are noncompliant in their care and management of their diabetes reminding them of the dangers of high blood sugar levels and they don't seem to care or make the effort to improve their situation. That's when it hit me. I am a hypocrite. My o... Sat, 17 Feb 2018 23:49:40 EST Hello! Mon, 11 Dec 2017 13:02:32 EST Overwhelmed by where to start I have been lazy about my weight and what I eat. This is my first week on SparkPeople and I am taking this week to assess my situation. You know, get a base of where I am and what changes I need to make. What I have found: I am sedentary as *explicit.* I almost always blow through fat and calories like crazy, barely make protein (and here I thought I was a carb loader). My problem is Michigan weather: crazy hot, humid summers, and (now) frigid cold winters. I don't live where there is sidewal... For most of my life, I have been an athlete and played soccer, been a coach and enjoyed the adventure. However 12 years ago I had a sports injury and broke my back. I have had six back surgeries as well as other surgeries. Over the years the weight just slowly sneaked up and stayed with limited mobility. I enjoy doing more active things, but often the next day my back lets me know and ma... Mon, 17 Jul 2017 20:53:48 EST Brand new: nervous, but excited! I had an injury to my feet in 2008 (they were the victim of a 500lb pallet dropping on them) and ever since, I just kind of let myself go. I used to be a healthy, active person but I lost interest in taking care of myself for a while. After I weighed myself recently and saw myself in a picture, I realized I needed to make some changes. It's a stressful juggling act that has taken over. I realized how out of control things have gotten and I am trying to take time to take care of me. Looking forward to this journey and ... Thu, 8 Jun 2017 12:48:40 EST HI Hi. A couple of weeks ago I took my kids to the doctors so they could get their yearly physical for camp. I decided to check my weight. My mouth hit the floor when I say how much I weighed. How on earth did I let myself get this way? I know, I didn't really care. My weight was 201 lbs. I went home that day and tried some exercises, felt good but tiring at the same time too. Then low and behold my husband came home sick with a nasty cold that he received from work and then gave it to me. So fo... Mon, 5 Jun 2017 14:09:04 EST Hello from Chicago! I look forward to hanging around and chatting with ... Mon, 2 Jan 2017 14:35:13 EST Hi! Introducing myself Hi! I'm Katie. I've had a rough year due to early menopause (I'm 39) so my hormones were completely out of whack. Getting back on track in 2017 as I hit the big 4-0! Not hoping to hit a certain number on the scale but my goal is to be healthy. I have a way to go to get that, at least 40-50 lbs and I'm okay with that. I used to do crossfit but burned out while I was pregnant so I'm looking to ease back into the gym scene. I hope everyone has a great day! Sun, 1 Jan 2017 19:49:38 EST Hello 2017! Happy New Year to everyone! Thank you for extending an invitation to this group! It feels relief that I can find a place, where I will be able to express my thoughts, my interests.... A place, where I can stay motivated, because I have started to join a healthy lifestyle many times, but now I know this is a journey, which you can't take alone. And I'd have to say I am impressed with all that it has to offer. I have struggled with motivation to get healthy for the last few years and I think this may be the tool for me. I have a lot of loving support from my boyfriend but I feel this is gonna be the extra push I need from like minded individuals. I recently started experiencing excruciating bad back and knee pains and decided now is the time! I am 34 year... Wed, 25 May 2016 09:38:47 EST Trying again I'm 33, and trying to lose at least a 100 lbs. The last time I tried Sparkpeople was in 2010. So much has changed in my life since then, I've gotten divorced, and engaged again. My ex and I didn't have kids, my fiance has three, and it's filled a big part of what was missing in my life. I want to help them be healthier, set a good example for them, and help make sure I'm around for them as long as possible. My willpower and motivation tends to be very lacking. And I'm definitely scared of fai... Hi all -

I'm back again for my third or fourth time! Hopefully this time will be fully successful for me this go around. I'm glad to see this group seems to be active and I can join in with similar age and weight goals. Today is day 5 for me of being on a solid plan. I'm making it throughts the weekend which is my biggest hurdles. My immediate goal is just over 20lbs, but have about 56lbs total that I'm hoping to lose. Taking the first step today by joining and I did exercise some via riding my bike and walking in the hall of my apartment building. I am trying to lose at least 40 pounds by the end of next April which will be my 37th birthday. Fri, 20 May 2016 21:52:58 EST What's Your Workout? Being fairly new to this, and having not worked out since I was in high school (20 years ago!) I am starting out real slow and walking either outside on nice days or on the treadmill. I was wondering what others were doing for their workouts. I need ideas for when I graduate from just walking. Tue, 17 May 2016 13:41:40 EST Restarting again Hi everyone! I am once again restarting this journey and making myself a priority after 3 extremely difficult years. I am homeschooling my kids and trying to show them that being healthy is more than a number on a scale. Tue, 17 May 2016 09:18:41 EST Hi, new here..... I am 33 and have been stuck in a rut for the last 10 years or so. I gained weight after high school, lost some before my wedding and now 6 years after having my daughter I am still holding on to baby weight plus some.

I have such a hard time with motivation even though I am miserable and hate the way that I look. I am an emotional eater so that doesn't help.
Mon, 16 May 2016 13:57:41 EST Weigh In Starting Weight: 223lbs (03/16)
05/09/16: 213lbs
05/16/16: 211.6

Started training again, 7 years later, to run my first half marathon this December.
A goal to help me stay on track :) Mon, 16 May 2016 10:38:19 EST Looking for accountability Hi! My main issue is not the weight. I have 183 pounds at a height of 5'3". I love my curves, BUT with exercises they would look much better 334
And if I would lose some pounds and get healthier as a side effect, that's even better 9

Have a great weekend,
Melanie Sat, 7 May 2016 08:46:47 EST Too big for massage? I woke up this morning with a massive knot in my neck/shoulder area. So bad I can barely move my head, so I did the sensible thing. I called Massage Envy and managed to get an appointment tonight while my girls are in Taekwondo. I was thrilled by my luck. They actually had an open appointment. Then a few mins went by and I I too big for the table? Will they be able to get through my fat rolls to make a difference? Will they want to? How mortifying is this going to be? Any other ... Fri, 6 May 2016 15:58:58 EST Calorie tracking Hello all! I have been tracking my calories for almost two weeks now and have been doing really well with keeping right around my intake goal. I know that too few calories will stall weight loss and too many is part of what got me in the shape I'm in now ;) My question for you is what do you do when you add in exercise? I know some people eat more to still stay in the suggested range, but others don't. Yesterday I added in an hour of cardio and according to my calorie tracker I was WAY under... Fri, 6 May 2016 10:59:13 EST back again!!! Needed a break from everything, but am back again and ready to get it done. I have 65 lbs to go. Ended up in the hospital for a few wks and that wasn't any fun. During my stay there I found out that i am diabetic. So i'm here to lose the extra weight that I have and to maintain my diabetes. 41 Thu, 5 May 2016 14:01:36 EST DAY 1: Starting Over....For real this time! Two weeks ago, on May 14th, I told my husband that it was over. There was a lot of stuff going on that I never should have allowed to go on for so long. When I saw how much it really was affecting my kids, I knew it was time to quit being a pushover, and to quit being naïve and to really put my foot down and stand up for myself for once. I had fallen out of love with him a long, long time ago, but I was always feeling like I HAD to suck it up and deal with it. Then like I said, I saw just how... Mon, 2 May 2016 13:13:31 EST Quick Question about site settings Hey all,

I was looking over my daily calorie allowance for the day and saw that it's attached to the amount of exercise I do in a day. It says if I work out more I am allowed to eat more calories. I am trying to track a daily deficit, so when I start working out my numbers will change? Is there a way to stop them from changing?

I followed the link and it said that it was the old way of tracking and new members after 2013 can't change? Did I read that right or am I total... Fri, 29 Apr 2016 15:43:25 EST Monopoly? Hi! I joined a couple of weeks ago and I am interested in participating in the monopoly challenge. What are the rules? Fri, 29 Apr 2016 00:39:56 EST Need Fiber...Please help! Ok team - Help me out here please! Thu, 28 Apr 2016 16:16:35 EST Hi, I'm new here I just joined today, and I've been immersed in all the stuff there is to do on this site that I forgot to introduce myself. I don't know what else to say really. So hi! Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:42:43 EST I'm here...what next? I thought I'd come in and introduce myself to the team. I'm here to hold myself accountable for the choices I make, keep myself motivated, gain some inspiration and hopefully have support when I falter (and support others when they do.) I've finally made the decision to do this whole health thing the right way and this looks like a great place to start.

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:08:01 EST "starting" again... I've been away for a while and have yet again regained all I had lost. BUT...I have done really well in the past, I know what I'm capable of and I'm excited to feel good again. I've learned a lot about myself and my reactions to stress, etc, so..I'm hopeful!

One thing that really helps me out on here is getting to know others and interacting with them, so please feel free to friend me, chat, etc.

I work, have a soon to be 1st grader, write in my spare time and like to ... Wed, 27 Apr 2016 10:34:05 EST New Girl on the Block Hey there :)

Well... here I am new to SparkPeople. Excited to have another venue of motivation. I am 34 years old. I have a 2.5 year old and a 1.5 year old. I was always on the heavier side all thu school and college. I moved overseas and gradually lost quite a bit of weight. Mostly because I was moving more and it was easier to eat healthy. Stayed pretty trim the first couple years after being married... but because of stress (job related) I started to gain weight again. Then I g... My name is Courtney. I am a 30 year old nurse practitioner from MS. I have been on SparkPeople for a long time now, but I have been inactive for a while. I am jumping back on, hoping to be successful & stick with it this go around. I say everyday I am going to start exercising again and watching what I eat and every day I fail. About the only thing I do every day is walk. I do walk on each of my 15 minute breaks I get at work and on my lunch break. But it seems once I get home that's it. I don't even know were to start. I'm one of these people that If I don't see results fast I give up. I have also tri... Tue, 19 Apr 2016 00:27:56 EST Allow me to introduce myself... Hey y'all! I'm Marie.

I've been on SP for about a week now and just read about this group. I'm starting over my weight loss journey. I fell off for some time now, especially since last summer when I had an ankle injury.

My original journey started in January 2013 at 290lbs. My summer of 2014, I was down to 225 and then sort of got stuck around there. I was able to maintain 225-230lbs for quite awhile and then when I got engaged in Dec 2014, I let go a little bit, but sti... Mon, 18 Apr 2016 20:52:43 EST Low Calorie diet Hi all, I started at a boot camp workout center and they supplied me with a meal plan. It is very restrictive; I am to eat the same 5 meals everyday for 4 weeks. I think I can do it but once I added up the total calories it came to about 1038. Is this okay to do? I have message my Dr. to get their input but wanted to get some quick feedback.
Let me know what you think. Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:16:35 EST trying again. I am Misty. I am trying to lose weight again since my doctor is adamant about me losing weight (5'1" and 165.1 lbs in jeans, shoes, and a shirt). I work in a fast food joint. I am addicted to food, live an apartment building that has a manager that would make the military blanch with how clean she wants everything to be (yes she wants the apartment look like it is brand spanking 40+ years new). I do stress eat and stress drink pop most of the time. I also live with someone who doesn't kn... Sun, 17 Apr 2016 21:39:47 EST Hello! Hi everyone! New to the group, but an old hat at SP. I'm used to trying to do everything on my own (as a single mom, I guess that's my MO) but I obviously haven't been very successful with that tactic. So I'm jumping in head first this time and trying a more sociable way. I'm really really going to try! Thu, 14 Apr 2016 17:29:11 EST MY JOURNEY TO A NEW ME Hi, I am 34 years old and type 1 diabetic. I have tried to diet many times but I get lazy and stop trying. I have decided it is about time I do something about my health. Sat, 9 Apr 2016 23:02:36 EST Allow me to (re)introduce myself, my name is JP Hi everybody,

I'm back on SparkPeople after several years away. I lost almost 30 pounds, but I gained it back and more during my hiatus.

I'm a husband, father, and engineer in New Orleans, and I'm trying to get in shape. Since I spend most of my day sitting at a desk, I definitely need to get out and exercise. Also, I am trying to eat healthy and practice self-control with my eating. It definitely takes practice.
