SparkPeople Cholesterol Support Team Messageboard Hard numbers Several years back the doctor appointment conversation went to weight. The doctor said that adults should not be heavier with age, that they should maintain their high school weight. Body weight is the root cause of cholesterol concerns for at least half of us, I am sure. For some reason we think that we can beat the cholesterol issue with special foods. But are we trying for a bmi of 23? Probably not. I am just saying that to some degree if you are not willing to cut your calories drasticall... Sun, 23 Jun 2019 11:35:22 EST Hi to the Spark Community I would like to introduce myself, my name is Karen and my goal is to lose 33 pounds by January but I hope to lose these before December. I have already lost 5 pounds since the beginning of April but realize it is definitely my diet and portion size that I am struggling with , so hopefully I can learn how to monitor calories etc. I have never understood how to calorie count so its going to be a new learning tool. One of the reasons I left SP was that I was overwhelmed by trying to keep track of everything. Now, looking at all the categories, message boards, and things to keep track of, I have that feeling again. I'm new to the group (although not to SparkPeople). I have always sat mourning my weight but never truly committed to doing anything about it. However, I'm starting to figure out - in the front of my brain - that I don't want the healthy issues my parents struggle with because they didn't take care of themselves like I'm not taking care of myself. I am finally acknowledged what my doctor told me about my high cholesterol and hoping I can change the course before she puts me on the med... Tue, 14 Aug 2018 11:10:48 EST New & Intimidated Hey, I'm Kayla & just got told by the doc that my LDL is getting a little high (3.7) & that I'm not pre-diabetic, but on my way... So now I need to find a way to get my LDL down. Part of that is I know I need to lose weight. I'm almost 31 years old (this month), 5'3 1/4", 202.7lbs. I know I need to be more active & need to cut down portion sizes. I'm sure there's also food I should cut back on eating (or possibly cut out altogether) Thu, 2 Aug 2018 19:24:38 EST New here, please be nice Some recent health scares have me thinking about my life more seriously. My blood pressure and blood sugar are great, but a lifetime of indulgent eating has caught up with me: my cholesterol is high enough that I'll need to go on medication soon if it can't be brought down another way. What's more, exercise has become a lot more challenging lately. I am dealing with a constellation of shoulder and leg problems, some of which have not yet been explained. Tue, 13 Jun 2017 10:48:08 EST Discouraged Saw the dr. yesterday and found out that simvastatin is not completely controlling my cholesterol and it is still too high. Also found out that the diuretic I was taking for my BP is not lowering it enough. To make matters worse, my blood sugar was a little elevated back in April. The good news is that (blood sugar) is based on April blood work and my diet has changed since then so maybe it will be OK. She (the doc) says I should feel hopeful b/c all these new problems--BP, cholesterol, blood... Tue, 13 Jun 2017 09:07:10 EST Intro Hi! My name is Tina (or Nana to people 20 and under- giggle). My dr. and I disagree on whether I should be on cholesterol meds or not. I have reacted to them before and choose not to go that route again. I set out (20+ pounds ago) to prove to her that I could lower mine without meds. So far so good! Fri, 9 Jun 2017 15:23:14 EST Grouping Foods I am having trouble setting up a new group of foods. I try to follow the steps but can not get to Step 2. I enter the foods I want then I do not see a step 2 button. Directions say to hit the "close" button" I do not see one so I "x" out which closes all that I entered. Do I need an upgrade or something? Wed, 31 May 2017 07:38:33 EST Ideas for raising HDL? I've been able to lower my total from 304 to 213. But my HDL has only gone up from 40 to 45. Any other ideas diet or supplement for raising HDL? Thu, 18 May 2017 23:14:38 EST New and Lost Although I signed up several weeks ago, I'm just getting started exploring the board. Mostly I felt I had to wait until the end of a very difficult semester to take on anything new. I had a lot of success with Weight Watchers years ago but when I joined again, I found that they have eliminated the discussion boards--the number one reason for my prior success. I've been working on becoming more active and served recently completed Walk Across Texas (although I substituted aqua-jogging and yard... Hi Gang,

Joined Spark last week as a resource for information and tracking my nutrition. I am 54 years old and am refusing my docs orders to go on statins. I have read too many bad things about their side effects. Moreover, I have read books that seem to prove that SUGAR is the real culprit not fat. So I am really managing my carb and sugar intake and boosting my proteins. In any case, my first week I lost 14 pounds, which is rather absurd given that I am overweight but not enough ... Mon, 24 Apr 2017 07:24:58 EST Hi! I'm Alex! Hi everyone, I'm Alex (cometkazi). I've been up and down losing weight (lose 20 pounds, gain it back, again and again) and I'm really sick of it. I've been overweight since middle school- I blame it on not being coordinated enough for sports and high doses of Abilify and Prozac. But at this point, I'm tired and scared. My cholesterol is through the roof, and though my doctor is trying to wean me off of the Abilify, I'm not sure if it will work, and if it doesn't, what then? My point is, I'm h... I recently turned 48 and realized that I had wasted a lot of time when it comes to myself. When I reflect back to the person that went to the gym between 3 - 5 times a week, I wonder how I could end up in such bad shape. Life threw some sharp punches my way and knocked me down. I know that I have to get up and punch back so I can take myself back. I know I'll never be the person that I was in my prime, so many years ago, but I can be better than who I am today. I am ready for this next chapte... Mon, 6 Mar 2017 11:03:55 EST Sue Bee Hi, I am a 65 year old grandma. I lost 70 pounds several years ago and kept it off for many years.
