SparkPeople Adirondack Mountain Fan Club Team Messageboard For those who either reside in or spend a lot of time in the gorgeous Adirondack Mountains... inside the blue line or out! SparkPeople Adirondack Mountain Fan Club Team Messageboard Not new to Spark but new to this team. Hi everyone, I live in the Glens Falls area and have been on and off Spark for many years. This time I have been back steady for almost a month and very focused. My main type of exercise is walking and climbing stairs and my fitbit helps me stay in line. The spark app is also a big tool for me. It's been beautiful here this past week and hoping it stays that way for just a little bit longer :) Sat, 7 Nov 2015 10:20:51 EST Adirondack Spring tracking challange 194 265 371 190 267 493 369 480 551 495

This spring I am determined to get some of this weight off before riding/swimming season is here. Of course I am upping my activity, but I have also committed to track everything I eat or drink for ten weeks straight. It only takes a few minutes a day thanks to Spark People's awesome program with favorites and oth... Sun, 8 Mar 2015 19:55:51 EST Half way point I remember us posting our personal goals in January.
How is everyone doing? Who is half way there? Who is reenergizing? Who is struggling?
I am a little of all of the above. 252
I am going to push through! Fri, 5 Jul 2013 11:22:06 EST Hello again! I need some advice. I've been absent from SparkPeople for a while, but I'm back now with a vengeance! I bought a house up in Massena, so I'm now a little farther from the Adirondacks, but could use some advice to some easy hikes that are stroller friendly within an hour's drive. I don't have a pack for my 19 month old, plus I'm not sure if I could carry the extra 20 pounds on my back just yet. I know there are some trails at the VIC in Paul Smith's. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it! Wed, 8 May 2013 13:33:06 EST Adirondack challenge Please think about joining our goal of going outdoors and enjoying at least an hour doing something you enjoy here in the beautiful Adirondacks. Try to shoot for twice a month, of course some of us will be outside a lot more than that. I spend at least that much time every week just cleaning up my horses paddocks, and believe it or not, I really enjoy that! What a beautiful region we live in!!! Thu, 4 Apr 2013 08:10:40 EST 2013 hike anyone? I read the string from a few years ago. I think April might be the perfect month to do something.
If The Lake Road is without snow, we can hike from the Ausable Club to Fish Hawk Cliffs. That is a 8 mile hike, but it is mostly on Lake Rd.
Or we could do Porter and Cascade, if someone wanted to do some easier High Peaks.
I will be doing Blake and Colvin as soon as I no longer need snowshoes, which is about a 13 mile round trip.
Closer to Lake George, we can do Buck Mountain... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 09:40:07 EST Adirondack happenings Let's post anything we here about happening here in the Adirondacks this spring, summer and fall.... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 19:25:52 EST hi i'm new I haven't lived in the adirondacks my whole life but I have for seven years now and I love it. The winters may be a little harsh sometimes but looking at the snow covered mountains makes it worth it. To me the fall is the most beautiful season up her. Of course fall has always been my favorite season. I moved up here originally because my boyfriend at the time wanted to live closer to his parents in Tupper lake . Sat, 29 Oct 2011 07:59:40 EST hello again it has been several years since i posted on spark people and, of course, a lot has changed. one thing that has not really changed is i have not lost any weight, but one thing that has changed is i am exercising more (and still have not lost any weight), but feeling a lot better. i am hoping to get back on board with spark people and put some effort into the "diet" side of my life. is there anyone on here from the warrensburg area? i am going to try and get on my page each evening to docum... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 11:07:05 EST It really has been a beautiful Summer It has been a great Summer. I've been able to put lots of miles on the motorcycle. The weekends seem to have been, for the most part, clear. There has been the occasional afternoon rain shower and I know some locations have had lots of rain. The Summer has gone by so fast. Soon I will be going to high school football games. There was snow on the trail beyond balanced rock to N. Summit, but the temp was perfect. There was a lot of blow-down so we paid close attention to trail markers. Mon, 25 Aug 2008 21:20:22 EST A Southern Adirondacker Here! Hi Everyone!
When looking up regional SparkTeams I was in awe when there was already one for the Adirondacks. Sun, 6 Jul 2008 16:40:48 EST Headed North We are headed up north tonight. Tomorrow is our 5th wedding anniversary and we are hoping to have dinner at the same place we had our reception. We will not be able to attend church in the little chapel on Sunday because it does not start summer services until next week. They had opened in a week early just for us to get married. The chef that prepared our reception dinner works at another local restaurant so we are just going to have to eat there on Sunday, boo-hoo no cooking at camp for me ... Fri, 20 Jun 2008 16:12:36 EST Ick... It's almost 8:30pm & it's 78 outside and 84 steamy degrees in my house. There is no breeze at all, and the fans just can't move the air around enough. A good thunder storm would really help right about now. :) I hate to put in the AC yet, because I really prefer to have the windows open at night, but I may have to give in if it doesn't break soon.

Hope everybody is staying cool!

Millie Mon, 9 Jun 2008 20:33:17 EST Hi from Mineville! My name may be EvFromVT, but I do live in Mineville. Up the mountain from Port Henry. I joined Sparkpeople to help me get motivated and lose weight so that I can buy an outfit for my oldest daughters wedding in May 2009. I am very overweight, and have tried everything except surgery. My main problem is not exercising. Hopefully this will help. Thanks for listening. Wed, 4 Jun 2008 20:45:33 EST Welcome MIDNIGHTANGEL46 Welcome to our team! Best of luck on your spark journey! Thu, 29 May 2008 12:35:03 EST What a great day! We had a draft horse log skid at our house today! 5 teams pulled up 35 logs (1/2 our wood for next year!) in about 3 hours. 1.5 miles round trip, up-hill with the log. My daughter rode with her grandfather for 3 or 4 trips & was just a great kid all day. Except for the hoards of black flies, after last nights rain, it was about perfect! Then we had a BBQ for lunch, my dd took a nap while it rained, and now I get to relax for a bit! :)

And I have all day tomorrow to not think ab... Hi everyone, my daughter came to visit this weekend and gave me a crash course in digital camera use. so now there is a face to the name and i have put some pictures on my sparkpage of why i feel i live in an igloo. the locals here say it has been an "old fashion" adirondack winter. at least in february. Sun, 2 Mar 2008 16:21:44 EST Newbie from CNY I'm a huge fan of the Adirondacks. My family and I "camped" there for at least one week every summer - and still do. I say "camped", because we stay at The Waldheim (my sister, cousin, and I also worked there in different years). For those of you that don't know it, it's about 30 minutes north-eastish of Old Forge on Big Moose Lake, and is my Nirvana. My favorite thing to do when I get there is to get up very early, take my journal and sit on a dock with the mist rising and the loons calling.... Sat, 1 Mar 2008 13:49:15 EST March How did everyone fair with the Leap Day Storm?

Yesterday morning (Friday) it was 30 below here but rose to about 20 above by the afternoon - a 50 degree change! Fri, 18 Jan 2008 13:13:23 EST SparkPoints Jeni asked about points.

Best as I can tell, they are still strictly virtual motivational tools and they earn you virtual trophies. 246

My own take on this is that many people here are compulsive personalities (as in compulsive eaters)- so SparkPeople are providing something else that people can be compulsive about: earning points and trophies. 246

Wed, 16 Jan 2008 17:50:47 EST low fat do any of you uys do low fat? i do 3 grams or less per meal. just wondering if anyone else does it.

pleae keep in mind, i HAD to go that low because my pancreas was sick and i can't process fat like normal people.

i lost 40 pounds when i went low fat, and i really love eating this way.

my pancreas ended up sying, so fat doesn't cause the pain it used to, but i really enjoy low fat and was looking for some ideas to change it up with some recipes or something.... I'm new to this sparkteam, but I've been around SP for over a year now. I've been as far down as 145, then I went up to 160 and now I'm coming back down again. It almost feels like climbing one of those high peaks! It's just as hard coming down as it is going up! Wed, 2 Jan 2008 19:58:37 EST 2008 Happy New Year to all of you!

I wish you all a healthy, happy, and successful new year. May your new year bring a time for reflection, wonder and discovery. Tue, 1 Jan 2008 10:35:46 EST First Snow! Did anyone else get snow today? It came down pretty heavily for a while this morning but didn't stick. I bet the mountain is snow covered though! Sun, 28 Oct 2007 15:38:57 EST Adirondack wedding I went to a wedding/reception today. The wedding was in Lake Placid but the reception was at the house the couple is renovating in Vermontville down a dirt road. Their house doesn't have indoor plumbing so they brought in a couple of porta-potties. The lady who catered said this was the most rustic reception she had ever done. It was all very nice and the food was great. They are Scottish and they wore kilts and had bagpipe music. It was a very special day. Sat, 18 Aug 2007 22:05:07 EST Fall is coming? These past couple of mornings have been a little chilly. My hubby commented the other evening when we were taking a walk that it seemed darker earlier. Our high school football team has started practicing. Signs of fall? I'm not ready....!!
46 Wed, 15 Aug 2007 17:56:54 EST Hello from Morrisonville Hi all! I live just on the outskirts of Plattsburgh. I was hoping to find a group that might relate to this geographic area. I go up and down in weight about every three to four years and I need to stop. I only hope I STOP when I'm around my goal weight. I don't want to believe that this old 42 year old won't be able to lose weight just because of her age. I'm a little tenatious so I don't like to be told I can't do something. Hope to get to know you all a bit better over the weeks and ... Tue, 31 Jul 2007 19:35:45 EST Good trails i'd like to start taking my son on some trails. what are some good ones to start hiking?
Which are your favorites? Fri, 27 Jul 2007 09:09:00 EST Lions and tigers and bears. . . Hey everyone!! We were coming back from NYC and driving through Long Lake and there in the middle of the road in the middle of town was a black bear!!!!It ran up a driveway!!The people who owned the house happened to drive in and we were shouting at them that a bear had just run up there driveway. They didn't seem as surprised or upset as we did! Is this a common occurance?:) What is the most awe inspiring thing you've seen in the wild? Mon, 23 Jul 2007 09:31:18 EST Hi! from the North Country! Hi, I just joined sparkpeople and I live in the Glens Falls area(near Lake George). I recently moved back to upstate New York and MY how it has changed! I love hiking and am looking forward to reconnecting with the Adirondacks Mon, 9 Jul 2007 13:26:10 EST Iron Museum in Port Henry I visited the Iron Museum in Port Henry yesterday. It's small, just getting started, but I was fascinated by what they had. My Dad and two Uncles worked in the mines and probably many other people I knew because it was a small town. They had a book with all the employees listed from the start of the mines until they closed in 1971. It was a listing by employee number which would have been in order of hire I guess. There were no dates through the book so you just had to look for names. I... Sat, 7 Jul 2007 10:19:19 EST hope I count hi to all
I don't live in the adirondacks, so I hope I can still join. I live in Potsdam, NY, so am right on the out skirts and work in Parishville, in the "foothills".:) My family is planning to do a lot of hiking and exploring this summer to exercise and spend family time together.
hope everyone is well. Hope to here from someone.:) Wed, 27 Jun 2007 07:48:10 EST Whiteface Mountain Highway My hubby and I took part in the annual "Blessing of the Bikes" ride today. There were about 50 bikes. I think there would have been more but the threat of rain kept people away. We drove up the Whiteface Mt. Highway to the top where a priest blessed each bike as we drove by and then we all drove to Plattsburgh for a barbeque lunch. We only got a little rain on the way home. It was a great day. Sun, 3 Jun 2007 21:44:25 EST Team Photo Gorgeous photo. Did you take that Reesha?

Tracy Mon, 21 May 2007 10:23:14 EST Weekly Calorie Challenge? Are you guys interested in a weekly calorie challenge?

Basically, we each keep track of (and post here) the calories we consume each day. For example:

My calorie range 1200 - 1550

5/20 Sun...
5/21 Mon...
5/22 Tue...
5/23 Wed...
5/24 Thu...
5/25 Fri...
5/26 Sat...

Tracy Sun, 20 May 2007 10:56:47 EST Out in the great outdoors today My hubby and I went for a fabulous motorcycle ride today. Since the rain was in the South and East we headed North and West. The sun was wonderful. It makes everything about life seem so much better. Next week we are supposed to get some warmer weather. 224

Shirley Sat, 19 May 2007 21:31:07 EST What are your favorite types of work outs? With some of the most beautiful mountains at our fingertips... what are your favorite ways to workout here in the Adirondacks?

I personally like to bike (mountain and road), hike and walk. I haven't taken to rock climbing here yet, and although I like it I feel like I won't have time to do it with all my other hobbies and my work. :)

Plus Route 73 has nice wide shoulders that are AWESOME for biking. 8') Sun, 13 May 2007 17:40:40 EST Introduce yourself! So... where do you spend time in the great ADK? What do you like to do here?

I live in Lake Placid so I spent most of my time here and in Keene and Saranac Lake. You might see me out riding my bike a lot or shepharding school children on Mirror Lake walks for exercise. 108 Fri, 11 May 2007 12:48:55 EST
