This was a loss of 8.4 pounds from 1/1/2017. I am looking forward to the month of February and do not see the same challenges I had in January. I expect to have a full 4 weeks to really push myself to break the poor eating habits and add exercise. My personal challenge for February is to lose 13.2 pounds. Wed, 1 Feb 2017 08:00:06 EST January 2017 Challenge I just got off the scale. I have been eating like it is my job over the last few weeks. My goal is to lose 16.6 pounds in January. This sounds like a lot of weight, but I have a large number to start. Maybe I will find more success if I can break my weight loss into smaller, monthly goals. Sat, 1 Aug 2015 16:49:36 EST Biking for Exercise Anyone interested in getting together for biking for exercise? I'm part of a group that has started biking the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month for an hour or so. It's great to meet up with them. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in meeting up at the Chickamauga Battlefield or Riverpark or any other place in mind to put in a few miles. Sat, 1 Aug 2015 06:58:04 EST Life Long Struggle / Re-Introduction Hi All,

I thought I would put out an introduction. I couldn't find an original post, but this could be a repeat.

So, I am 38 years old. I've struggled with being overweight most of my life. I was never very active as a teenager growing up. I started working in corporate America when I was 18 in 1995. I weighed in about where I do now.

My uncle and I joined FormU3 back in 1997. I lost down from 271 to 197 on that program. I bought a board this weekend and tried it the first time Monday night. Yeah, I am strange that way. I ended up taking the lessons last night (Tuesday) that Rock Creek offers. I think I have fallen in love with a new outdoor activity. I'm still learning the basics, but it is awesome! I will say Warner Park Pool is very different than the Tennessee River, but I think I have gotten the hang of getting back on my board in deep wa... Wed, 29 Jul 2015 04:45:44 EST Daily Weigh-In I weight myself every day right after I wake up and get downstairs. It could become an obsession, but I have been disciplined that it is a once-a-day event. I like to do it so I can consider what I ate and how much I exercised the previous day and the impact that activity had on my bottom line. I have decided I am very sensitive to salt.

Does anyone else weigh themselves every day? Sun, 1 Feb 2015 08:55:04 EST Last Week's Major Challenge I joined a Diabetes Prevention Program. Tue, 1 Apr 2014 07:59:34 EST March 2014 Challenge I was pondering this month's challenge and considering all kinds of exercise goals. Then it hit me. My personal experience has always been 80% of my weight is due to what I put in my mouth. The exercise is great at building muscles, bones, and feeling great. I can walk all day but wipe out all that exercise with a trip to the buffet. I have also noticed a strong tie between water and food. Water tends to fight my appetite. Using these guidelines, the challenge is for everyone to come up with their own personal goals. Try to come up with a least three. Thu, 27 Sep 2012 23:30:31 EST Newbie Seeking Motivation Hi y'all! I'm Laura from Tennessee, and I need some motivation and accountability. A combination of sedentary lifestyle, lazy food choices, and medication have caused me to gain a lot of weight over the past couple of years. Joining SparkPeople is my second step in the journey to weight loss and better health (the first step was visiting my doctor and getting switched off the "bad medicine" to an alternate plus a strong diuretic). I lost a lot of water weight, but still have a long way to go.... Sat, 22 Sep 2012 19:56:02 EST September Challenge I am training for the Chickamauga Half Marathon in November. We will be working out Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 at BCBST and doing individual work sessions at our convenience. I'll keep you updated on my progress and would love to hear yours. Sun, 15 Jul 2012 21:40:39 EST When to play it safe while exercising My youngest wanted to go biking tonight and I was very torn. I felt like if I didn't go I was shirking. But I was concerned about going because of the heat. What to do. Then my oldest son pointed out that I needed to look up the Heat Stress Index (HSI). So, if you are planning on exercising outdoors, here is a handy link for you. I have printed this out and put it on my fridge. You take the temp and the humidity on the chart and it shows you the danger level for exercise in that temp. ... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 18:36:47 EST July Chattanooga Activities Happy 4th of July Everyone! My nutrition class at UTC has really kicked me in gear for being serious about eating right and staying in shape. I'm a college student, and like most, I have a college student diet: cheap and bad for you. I can't afford to be organic, and every time I buy healthy fresh fruits and veggies, they're spoiled by the time I use them. So we'll see what happens, but I'm ready for a change.... Sat, 7 Apr 2012 19:29:39 EST New to the Team Hi all. I've been on Sparkpeople for a while now, but never really took it seriously. I want to now, so I thought I would say hello to the people around me who are also trying to get in shape and live healthy lives. I'm doing this 6 week plan to really get in shape. My friends are out on the road for about a month or so, so I gave myself a lil bet: to be on my way to looking and feeling totally fit by the time they return. Normally, I'm a run outside kind of gal, but the recent rain and shin-deep puddles have me looking to the treadmill. The Warner Park Fitness Center's 50-cent entrance fee is mighty appealing, plus it's VERY close to my apartment AND all the errands I need to do today. Has anyone in this team ever been there? Little bit about myself....I am an everyday southern belle who loves life very much but has seen a few too many disappointments in life. Sun, 29 May 2011 18:42:34 EST Favorite Place in Chattanooga to eat We all still like to go out to eat. Where do you like to go that gives you a good meal but doesn't blow your nutrition for the day? I like soup at Panara Bread or at Chick-fil-a. Thu, 19 May 2011 12:50:31 EST How do you avoid night time snacking? OK, confession time. My hardest time of the day is after 7:00 at night. I find if I'm watching TV then I want something going into my mouth. I have tried sucking on ice and that helps or herb teas. But I wondered what you all do to avoid adding extra calories in the evening. Seems like when the sun goes down my discipline goes down with it. Fri, 5 Feb 2010 05:55:24 EST If You Could: Workout Equipment If you could purchase one piece of workout equipment, what would it be?

I'm thinking of picking up a treadmill and training for a half marathon. Sadly, I already have a bike, eliptical, and huge weight machine, but instead, I feel like running, blame it on my addictive American consumerism. :) Fri, 5 Feb 2010 05:50:57 EST Weekly Challenge (2/1/10) I hope you guys got in some extra strength training last week. If anyone has any "local insight" on anything at all, it would be most welcome! Wed, 27 Jan 2010 21:01:49 EST February 2010 Monthly Challenge Valentine's Day is this month. It's important for your well being to make a date with yourself. This month's challenge will be to set aside 1-2 hours a week for yourself. You can break it up into 30 minute sessions or hour sessions. Use this time to do something you enjoy whether it's shopping, reading, cooking (for yourself and not because you have to), traveling (small day trips), meditating, ect. Post a message as to how your date with yourself went. Did you find out anything new? D... Fri, 22 Jan 2010 06:33:46 EST Buying Organically Have you made the switch? Do you think it's neccessary to buy organically?

There are certain items I love to eat when they are organic: eggs and bananas. They absolutely taste completely different to me than when bought otherwise.

But how about you? Has organic become a part of your new lifestyle? Thu, 21 Jan 2010 05:26:35 EST Thankful Thursday! Thankful Thursday is here!

I am so thankful for my Lord, my family, and my friends. It's me again... I joined SP a couple of years ago. I love this group! I ate healthier and exercised.I found out you have to be really dedicated to stick with it though. I still have the same problem...snacking on unhealthy foods. I am trying SO hard, but the sweets and chips just call out to me. I am a caregiver for an elderly lady, and she wants me to buy them for her. It's not like I can just "not have them around." I have been bringing fruit and healthy snacks with me, but I still know that the bad stuff ... Mon, 18 Jan 2010 13:51:17 EST Batch Cooking Would anyone be interested in a group batch cooking? This is what I had in mind:
Once a month a group of 4-5 Chatt. sparkers cook up a large portion of an entree and then exchange some of their entrees for the other 3-4 entrees. That way it's not so overwhelming with batch cooking and we can all cut down on the eating out and convenience foods. This would be perfect for those who live alone or with one other person. As far as the menu goes...I'll get to that if there is interest in t... Tue, 29 Dec 2009 15:42:13 EST The winter solstice 2009 has passed. I just wanted to comment that I'm so glad to see the days are getting longer. October is the time for Halloween candy, beerfests, changing of weather and moving the clocks back one hour. Many of these can cause an increase in our calorie intake. So the challenge for this month is to increase water intake and say no to soft drinks this month. Soft drinks can add up in calories, add in all the festivities that comes with the month of October and you'll be gaining back that weight before you know it. Soft drinks are empty ca... Mon, 12 Oct 2009 12:09:12 EST Hello All Hey, I joined spark people because it was so well praise on LifeHacker. I've been trying to lose the weight I gained when I stopped running three years ago (turns out that stopping exercise, while continuing to eat like one is exercising, doesn't work that well). Well, that's the best I can do for an introduction. Tue, 6 Oct 2009 22:47:31 EST Hello All Hi Everyone,
I joined sparkpeople a couple of months ago and haven't been on it enough to learn what to do. Use your imagination and post it under this topic. Tue, 1 Sep 2009 16:18:02 EST The Next Few Weeks... Sorry about being MIA this past week. Fri, 17 Apr 2009 09:18:22 EST April 8 - National Start Walking Day 244

So, tomorrow is national walk day, do you have any plans to start up a walking work-out? I know some of you are already running/walking, do you have any great places you'd like to share with the team?

I must say, the snow blowing outside my window today isnt making walking outside look too enjoyable but we've always got elliptical machines or even work out/walking videos.

And, lastly, I'm happy there's an organization out there somewhere that i... Tue, 7 Apr 2009 08:35:24 EST Hey Hey My name is Trudy and I live just outside of Chattanooga in the big town of Whitvegas (Whitwell). Just wanted to drop in and say hey! :) Fri, 27 Mar 2009 09:53:32 EST Cycling, Exercise, and Injuries I am a road cyclist and a fitness instructor. I love to ride! I love to climb big hills and even Suck Creek Mtn. :) I have a hypothyroid so it is very hard for me to lose weight. I have had problems with my back on and off for 17 years. I discovered about a month ago that I have 3 bulging discs with one annular tear. I have been told no exercise or riding for 6 weeks. Well, I have listened for the most part. I did not exercise at all for 2 weeks. For the past 3 weeks I have exercised... Mon, 23 Mar 2009 16:17:49 EST Hello! Hi! My name is Traci, and I have been a spark member for a couple of months and I love it! My weight loss has been pretty consistent at 1 1/2 - 2 pounds per week since I joined Spark, and from what I've read, that is a healthy rate to lose.

I have read about/blogged with some very inspirational people so far, and I look forward to meeting even more Spark members in my own area of the world. I teach ninth grade English at LFO High School in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, and I am training ... Mon, 23 Mar 2009 09:32:45 EST Personal Challenge for Easter 2009 Easter is just 3 weeks away. I have had a horrible time trying to stay in the motivated mindset of losing weight. As a matter of fact, it's been a long time since I have done more than just bounced back and forth over the same 3-4 pounds. I feel like I am at the point of a fresh start since it is has been so long since I have had any meaningful weight loss. I am challenging myself to lose 10 pounds between now and the Saturday before Easter.

Does anyone else feel like creating ... Sat, 21 Mar 2009 10:35:04 EST Walks! Mon, 16 Mar 2009 06:45:02 EST Hi All. Hey all new to the site and the area. I just moved to Chattanooga a yr ago and moving to Cleveland soon due to my hubby being transfered. My sister told me about this site but I have no idea really what I am doing. Any help and suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks all. Thu, 12 Mar 2009 19:05:12 EST Monthly Get-Togethers I read it in another thread in the forum and can't get the idea out of my head. A few people expressed an interest in getting together once a month. I wanted to start this thread to get some ideas about places. At first I was thinking restaurants because meeting people and eating seem to go hand in hand. Then I thought another alternative would be different places around town to exercise. So, here is what I have come up with so far....

Eating:
Greenlife
Souper Salad
... Wed, 11 Mar 2009 07:44:17 EST NEW TO THIS TEAM My name is Rhonda and I live in Cleveland. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for about a month. I just joined this team and wanted to say "hi". Sat, 7 Mar 2009 15:27:47 EST Consignment Sale Not sure if this is allowed or not but I just wanted to boost The Chattanooga Area Moms of Multiples consignment sale that will be going on tomorrow and Sat at the East Ridge Community Center. Tomorrow it is from 9 am - 7 pm and Sat from 9 am - 1 pm. Thu, 5 Mar 2009 17:07:26 EST Fridays Hey everyone!

The weather will soon be warming up (fingers crossed), so I was thinking that some outdoor exercise might be in order.

I do not have work or school on Fridays, and on warm days I usually take my pup to the park. If there is anyone else who has Fridays free and would like to start joining me, let me know!

I usually go to Renaissance park around 10:00 a.m. but I can modify that if anyone would really like to join me.

Thanks! Thu, 5 Mar 2009 09:05:36 EST Dietary Sabotage Here's the question:

What do you do that sabotages your dietary goals?

For example, the one thing I do way too much that seems to really get in the way of weight loss is dining out. I will eat out 10-12 times per week. The portion distortion is way out of control at restaurants. Mon, 2 Mar 2009 07:24:27 EST What do you want out of your Chattanooga Team? I've been browsing through the Chattanooga Chew Chews Sparkteam page. I quickly noticed that we have 1083 members. The next thing I noticed is only a small percentage of those folks were anywhere near active on the General Team Discussion Forum. It seems like everyone does an intro then moves on.

The question quickly comes to mind how do you get people active on this board? We have some very creative threads going. I will just throw it out there.

WHAT DO YOU WANT OU... Sun, 1 Mar 2009 18:39:49 EST The March Madness Challenge I posted this challenge in another group of mine and wanted to share it with this one as well. I understand we are all on different phsycial activity levels, so you can you adjust or modify this according to your own, but over all its a thread to get people motivated and involved.

Enjoy!

Welcome to March Madness!

I'm setting up a challenge for this month if you'd be interested in joining, as well as I'm encouraging everyone to post their own challenges un... Sun, 1 Mar 2009 08:51:03 EST We need a leader.... Any takers?

I will do it if no one else wants to, but I only log on twice a week do to internet constraints so if there is someone who logs in more frequently, feel free to take the position.

:) Thu, 26 Feb 2009 13:09:53 EST Love your water? I know I don't. Something about water is so dissatisfying that it makes me crave sugary drinks even more to compensate for its incompleteness. Sometimes, for some really odd and dumb reason, drinking water when I'm thirsty leaves me thirsting even more. Of course, this can be a huge problem when you're attempting to guzzle 64 ounces of water each day. Necessity is the mother of all invention they say, and to assist me in my quest for hydration, my necessity has led me to Crystal Light Fruit P... Tue, 24 Feb 2009 23:05:47 EST Off to a great start! Last week I implemented my change in eating habits and began working out on Tuesday (got in two classes last week). That's two pounds down the hole! I'm looking for three pounds this week. I just created my sparkpage if anyone would like to check it out. Be prepared for frequent blogs. Things get interesting in my world ;) Fri, 20 Feb 2009 11:47:49 EST Exercise is fun! I was really afraid that because I am so out of shape (anatomically and physically) that it would be very difficult for me to exercise. A friend of mine works out four days a week, and has been working out this way religiously at a facility that is insanely cheap, so I thought to just join her. I got so excited about being able to attend a fitness class at least three days a week for just a dollar a visit! that I started spreading the word out among my friends, and before I knew it I had a sm... Thu, 19 Feb 2009 07:51:51 EST March for Babies As some of you may remember, last year we did a Chattanooga Chew Chews walk, Strides of March as well as some may have even walked for March for Babies, well, its time again, to walk for a cause we believe in.

Below is a link to sign up for the May 3 event. If you'd like, we can get another team together, collect money, and walk. It's a great way to meet others in the area and to support babies in need.

oPopUp.asp?close=0... Thu, 12 Feb 2009 20:50:00 EST Immense Challenge Hey, I just joined this network for some support in my quest for weight loss and healthy living. I'm a college student, work two part-time jobs, and am addicted to food and coffee. I'm going on an incredible South Pacific tour this summer on a full scholarship, and I'd like to lose 15-30lbs (15 on the slow track and steady, 30 on the serious track) by the trip in June. This will be incredibly challenging for me, especially because exercise is very difficult because of how out of shape I am, p... Wed, 11 Feb 2009 08:38:39 EST The Greenway was beautiful today! I went out for a walk with my dog at the Greenway Farms and it was incrediably beautiful this afternoon. If you havent gone out yet this year, you should. The weather was great today and I noticed there is now a dog park out there. I'll be taking my two out there pretty soon.

I'm a really slow walker at the moment, but maybe this spring/summer we can meet out for some walks.

Have a great weekend! Sat, 7 Feb 2009 12:59:41 EST Weekend!! I'm so glad Friday is here! Any big plans for the weekend? Make sure to stay on track. Fri, 6 Feb 2009 15:39:28 EST
