SparkPeople Tennis Players Team Messageboard Anyone who enjoys the sport of tennis SparkPeople Tennis Players Team Messageboard Summer Leagues I'm playing in a USTA 3.0 women's doubles/singles league this summer. It's fun because it's social and there aren't any guys who nail the ball straight at you.

I play in a rec league the rest of the year, but they don't do it in summer for some reason, so I'm glad I can play on the USTA team. There aren't a lot of options at 3.0 though - one of my reasons for wanting to get better at tennis is to have more teams I can play on.

Are you playing on any teams this summer? Sun, 22 May 2016 10:05:53 EST Calories burned playing tennis When I play tennis, I use the timer on my fitbit and enter the number of calories it says I burn into a custom exercise on SparkPeople. That's usually 460-530 calories, depending on whether it was singles, doubles, or a workout. That's probably an underestimate because it's only counting steps, not the effort needed to swing the racket.

If I actually log "tennis" on fitbit, it's more than 600 calories. I assume that counts too much for the breaks between points and sets.
<BR... Sun, 20 Mar 2016 12:27:48 EST Another tennis player Hi all!

This team seems pretty quiet...

I've been playing tennis for maybe 5 years. This year I finally joined a USTA adult league (I'm a 3.0). Tennis is one of my motivations to lose weight - I think I'd be a little faster on the court and have more endurance during matches.

I like singles better than doubles because I'm not letting my partner down when I mess up :) but doubles is more social, so I've played a little of both.

We have a good set of... Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:34:07 EST New to the Team Hi everyone!

New to the team, though a veteran of SP.

How's everyone doing? Anybody watching/watch the Davis Cup? I don't have cable so unfortunately I don't get to watch as much as I'd like.

132 Mon, 24 Aug 2015 20:00:25 EST Who watched the Australian Open? I was disappointed that Federer didn't win, but happy that Stanislas Wawrinka did win! Stan's been coming so close in the past months (especially when he almost beat Djokovic at the U.S. Open). It's also good for men's tennis that another player broke the 4-player stranglehold at the top.

I was also glad that Li Na won the women's championship. Extremely glad Shriekapova lost in an upset.

Upset being the operative word at this year's Australian Open. Many of the big ... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 08:47:42 EST Tennis addict post college athlete Hello! I was so glad to see that spark people had a tennis group! I have played tennis since I was eight years old. I played for the University of Nebraska at Omaha. My senior year we went to Division one. Loved every minute of the four years!! I am currently a 3rd grade teacher :) Tue, 14 Jan 2014 23:10:31 EST Favorite balls? OK - had a "discussion" with my partner yesterday...she could care LESS about the ball type, and if it's practice, I don't care, but for a match, I want Penn's. I say it's because they keep their bounce longer, but it probably is because my Mom likes them the most, and I blindly took her word for it.

Do you have a favorite brand? Why??

Kathy - Penn Queen Fri, 4 Jan 2013 07:29:48 EST Tennis-Addict Hi! I'm 41, been playing tennis for 10 years, and completely addicted. I had a right knee replacement in Oct '12 because of a car accident when I was 15 - I got tired of compensating for not being able to use the knee much. But I learned to play with a bum leg, and it never slowed me down - I'm a 4.0, and just REALLY good at anticipating so I can get to where I need to go. I am SO ready to get this weight off - hopefully with my new knee, and new attitude I can drop 75 pounds or so and ma... Tue, 29 May 2012 14:35:13 EST My story In June 2011, I turned 30, and for the last 10 years have been piling on the pounds. My weight of 160 at age 20….has slowly crept to 235pounds! If I am to be frank, I know this is because I am a person that lives to eat versus, eating to live. Though my body has adapted to carry this extra weight, I have been feeling progressively more lethargic, weak and stressed. This translated in poor stamina, focus and sometimes a diminished mood.

Since the start of 2012, I have been promising... I'm 40 something and ready to do something (finally) about my health and fitness. Getting older is NOT a joke, I'm finding out. Tue, 14 Feb 2012 10:57:28 EST Nadal vs. Djokovic. WOW. Words almost fail me. I started watched the men's final of the Aussie Open this a.m. Play started at 2:45 am, Central Standard Time.

First set - Nadal. Uh oh. Novak was going to have a bumpy road, if he couldn't get going. Novak was nervous and having problems getting his shots in.

Second and third set to Novak. Sun, 29 Jan 2012 17:14:35 EST So long, Shriekapova!!!! Despite myself (and because there was nothing on the tube to watch) I checked out the women's final (2 am, Central on ESPN2), with the "mute" button on.

It was also to prevent me from listening to Chris Evert's nasal/Valley Girl comments on the tennis (she interjects "you know" every 8-10 words - it's tiresome).

Anyhoo, Azarenka dispatched Shriekapova in straight sets: 6-3, 6-0. I watched all 3-1/2 hours (it seemed twice as long) of the Nadal/Federer match.

As much as it pains me to write this, Federer did not win. Although you would not have guessed the outcome if you'd watched the first set. Federer came out like gangbusters, to take a 4-1 lead. Then Nadal caught up. Thu, 26 Jan 2012 18:32:30 EST Can somebody please duct tape Shriekapova's mouth? Maria Shriekapova is the worst offender of the women pros who grunt, scream, whoo, when they hit tennis balls.

I heard on my oldiest but goodies radio station yesterday that there is a rule against this, but it is rarely adhered to (no kidding)!

I think fans should be allowed to start screaming, whooing, grunting and moaning whenever a player does this.

OTHERWISE, give a point to a player's opponent whenever they make sure bloodcurdling screams - that will s... Wed, 11 Jan 2012 17:37:28 EST Very new tennis player Hi Everyone,
I've been watching my daughter play tennis the past 5 years through school. This fall I decided to take indoor group lessons. It was pretty reasonable at $10 per lesson 1 1/2 hrs every Friday night. We live in northern Minnesota. So far I know nothing about scoring but I've learned to volley pretty well. I look forward to playing tennis this summer and getting back into SparkPeople. 260

Roz Thu, 29 Dec 2011 13:20:39 EST Barclays How many are watching? I have a ping pong passion that also helps my tennis game. In my opinion Ping Pong gives you a much better understanding of spins, overheads, and placement. I also walk two miles a day, do 400 sit ups and work out on my stationary bike when I'm watching television. It's amazing how many miles I can get in during a grand slam. Tue, 4 Oct 2011 11:58:31 EST winter league plans? Tue, 4 Oct 2011 11:00:50 EST wish me luck folks back on March 24th, I royally messed up my wrist hitting a routine overhead backhand shot. 3 months later, i've gone through xrays, an MRI, an arthrogram, physical therapy, and cortisone. yesterday at PT, the therapist gave me the green light to grab a racquet and try hitting a ball around against a wall to see how it reacts.

wish me luck! being stuck away from tennis for 3 months is AWEFUL ! Thu, 16 Jun 2011 15:29:49 EST Tryin to play college ball So here's the scenario:

I'm going into my senior year of college and my one goal since getting accepted was to make the team play 1 varsity match before I graduated. I'm running short on time, but I'm continuing to make big strides in the school's club team, I'm second singles and first doubles. Just trying to lose weight to add some speed. Tue, 24 May 2011 00:02:37 EST ECU Tendonitis anybody ever had it? Im experiencing it right now, and let me tell you, its a nightmare. Not being able to hold or swing a racquet for a month is terrible. Tue, 12 Apr 2011 10:26:10 EST Have you used a ball machine? I am thinking having one of these would do wonders for my game. Up until now, I have just relied on the backboard for practice in between games. But I have no idea where my shots will land and I often find out the hard way when I am on the real court. I like the idea of a machine feeding me 200 straight topspin hits to my backhand and then trying to perfect my swing by going cross-court, down the line, and back. Sounds good in theory. Anybody have some experience with these? Sat, 19 Mar 2011 14:22:03 EST game is in disarray So for the last 2/3 weeks, my game has been in complete disarray. I've lost two straight Mixed Doubles matches, 6 straight mens doubles matches, and 2 straight Singles matches.

Flat out, I'm in a terrible losing streak, and finding that I am very quickly losing my focus and patience on the court and conceding games rapidly due to it. Tue, 1 Mar 2011 13:39:58 EST Mixed Doubles Leagues Curious to see how people approach mixed doubles leagues, if anybody here plays in them.

I am in one. It's a USTA league. To me, since its a formal USTA league, it's competitive. However, my partner didnt hesitate to point out her concerns about how hard I hit and how I should "tone it down" when serving to the ladies since mixed doubles is meant to be somewhat friendly and social. I've also had other members in the team say flat out that its competitive and to play how you usu... Its the start of a whole new year, and that usually means USTA leagues start up.

Anybody join a USTA league? I joined a 6.0 Mixed Doubles league, but I'm afraid the skill level may be a bit below where I'm at. Sun, 24 Oct 2010 22:50:51 EST Hey folks Since the team leaders have not been active in so many days, and I've got experience leading teams via the Planet Fitness team, I volunteered to act as another Team Leader until Buzz or Annie come back, or end up sticking with me as the leader permanently.

SO! With that said, I'd like to get this team more active. Anybody have any fun and creative ideas? Post em up! Tennis is a RIDICULOUSLY great fitness crutch to lean on, so lets make it known! Sun, 24 Oct 2010 22:45:51 EST Any women over 50 playing competitive tennis? Love to speak to you. I have been playing quite well for the last month or so but had a disasterous Doubles match yesterday 234 . Only excuse was they were a VERY good team and we think our courts were "flipped". Hi all!

I'm not new to Spark (joined back in June), but never thought to look for a team of tennis players before! I've been playing tennis regularly for two decades now, and have been part of a company league (captaining and coordinating) for many years. I've played no matter what my weight at the time, but my level of play has gone up and down based on mobility, knee/ankle injuries, etc., all caused by my weight. While tennis is not my primary reason for losing weight, I'm look... Mon, 6 Sep 2010 16:29:35 EST How much does it cost you to play? I was just wondering how much everyone pays for their club memberships, lessons, leagues, etc., if you're willing to share (a ballpark figure or range is fine). I'm new to tennis and I just want to see if how much I pay is comparable because it seems like a lot. For me, the gym membership is about $43 a month and you HAVE to be a member to play in the leagues or attend Cardio Tennis classes and those have separate fees too. Doubles league is almost $10 a week and singles league is about $1... Fri, 3 Sep 2010 22:05:20 EST Hi Hi - I'm Woody and I love to play tennis. I started back up a while back after about 3 years without playing and I was trying to pack about 270 pounds around the court. Slow and clumbsy - even reaching down to pick up a ball was awkward due to my big gut hanging out there in the way.
Now I'm playing in two doubles leagues so I get to play two or three times a week and am down to 250. I'm still slow and clumbsy but enjoying a much better game now and am dedicated to reducing down be... Fri, 3 Sep 2010 17:39:58 EST Hey everybody New guy in town here! Mon, 16 Aug 2010 00:53:23 EST Hi Ya'll!! Hi! My name is Dotti. I'm 30 and I live in OK. After not playing for 12 years, I got back into playing tennis again this past spring in a USTA league. Sun, 14 Feb 2010 18:26:20 EST Hi From PA I joined sparkpeople Dec 2009 and just found this team. I love to play tennis. I try to play 2 to 3 times a week in the winter. Only just got back after being off for 3 years, did not realize how much I missed it. Watched the Australian Open and have now going into withdrawals not being able to watch it on TV everyday. I'm glad I was wrong about the Australian Open going to four sets, with Federer as the victor.

Roger only needed 3 sets to get the title, although that last set (he beat Andy Murray in a tiebreaker 13-11!) certainly had its suspenseful moments.

Murray gave a very touching, sweet speech.

And Roger was very gracious (and happy).

Can't wait for May, when the French Open starts. Fri, 29 Jan 2010 17:14:31 EST Hit for Haiti I am sending props out to Federer & friends who, in less than 24 hours, organized and participated in the fundraising exhibition, "Hit for Haiti" to raise money for the relief efforts in that devastated country. I loved it!! Very entertaining and for a great cause. Ü I think microphones should be worn in all matches. I loved seeing the personalities of the players come out in a less competitive environment. **If you missed it, there are some great clips on youtube. Mon, 18 Jan 2010 17:57:55 EST Australian Opportunity As much as I love to watch tennis majors, it is counter productive. If you aren't fortunate enough to own a treadmill, a recumbent, or some other stationary cardio machine, then try reworking your fitness plan to where you have an "in front of the TV workout." I do hope she's learned her lesson.

The event's first round starts 1/18. I can't wait!!!!

Annie

213 244 Mon, 4 Jan 2010 15:47:23 EST What's your favorite tennis book? I just finished reading "Open" by Andre Agassi. Fascinating book. His father should be charged with child abuse, however.

My favorite tennis book is "Strokes of Genius" - it's about 2008's Wimbledon final - Nadal vs. Federer. FANTASTIC!

It also gives a glimpse of how tennis parents ought to be (Federer's). Roger's mom noticed how he liked hitting tennis balls, suggested to the club instructor to see if her son wanted to get more instruction, then left him alone. The... Sat, 2 Jan 2010 13:44:25 EST Just found this team Hi everyone. I'm so glad to have found a tennis group. I play league tennis - 3.5/4.0 rating. it is very competitive and I really need to get into better shape to play at this level. I look forward to some great tennis talk and support from this spark team. Wed, 30 Dec 2009 08:23:16 EST Frustration For league, I'm last in the points standings now, after last night's match marked my 5th consecutive loss, which stinks, especially since it was my goal to NOT be last. There are still two weeks left though so maybe... I'm also trying to remember how my instructor said that even if the others have more points they're essentially last if they've used a sub more than twice (only four of us have either never used a sub or done so only once or twice). I don't know, maybe I'm expecting too much... Wed, 2 Dec 2009 10:47:29 EST Tournament I'll be playing in my third tournament this year/ever over Thanksgiving weekend. I'm excited but afraid of embarrassing myself. Trying to not worry/think about and realize that no matter what happens, it'll be okay. Draws come out in three days so not sure if I'll be asked to join the other division(s); there are only 5 women registered for singles, two 4.0, two 3.5, and me (in 3.0). Sun, 22 Nov 2009 16:34:18 EST New to Spark - not so new to Tennis Hello all,

I'm a 3.0 (borderline 3.5) male player. 6'4" 216 pounds

I joined spark to help me lose some weight and better understand my eating habits.

I play tennis 3-5 times per week sometimes for up to 3 hours at a shot. I have recently re-added cardio (elliptical) training to my regimet and hope to add some weight training as well. I hate weight training.

Anyways, that's me in a nutshell. Nice to be aboard.

Brad Wed, 7 Oct 2009 13:39:31 EST Progress How do I know I'm where I'm "supposed to be"? Maybe there's no such thing but I've been playing and having lessons for about six months so maybe I'm right where I should be. I have high expectations of myself and I just feel like I should be further along or a better player than I am. I make mistakes and am still working on footwork. I guess I'm frustrated because of my errors as well as in playing in a doubles league, my team (we have different partners every week) only won one set once,... Fri, 2 Oct 2009 11:27:17 EST So glad this team is here! Tennis is a big part of my life so I was pleased to find this team on sparkpeople! I look forward to getting to know some, hopefully most, of you guys along the way. So far this site has been nothing short of a perfect fit for my lifestyle.

Here's to good tennis and good health.

Cheers! Thu, 10 Sep 2009 14:05:07 EST Tennis Newbie! Hello My name is Cynthia you can call me CAT. I just started tennis lessons. I've always been interested, but never tried. I'm excited! Just learning how to handle the racket is a work out. Feel free to check out my page and give me some tips.

CAT
260 Thu, 30 Jul 2009 07:50:30 EST Chick with a stick.... Hahaha! Hello there! I'm new to this team and to the website but I've been playing tennis for about 5 years now.

I am a 2.5, guess why!?! yep you guessed it because I am carrying around so much extra weight I can't get to the ball in time.

hoping to remedy that situation soon! 260 Wed, 8 Jul 2009 17:27:36 EST First tournament I have my first tournament coming up and I'm trying to not get too nervous since it's still a few days away. I just hope I don't embarrass myself. I have no idea how many people will be there. Just curious, are any tournaments self-officiated? Also, any tournament advice would be appreciated. I'm not sure if my doubles partner will be able to do it but I'll be playing singles for sure. Sun, 5 Jul 2009 19:23:45 EST League match play I was hoping to play in the 2.5/3.0 level league this year (I've only been taking lessons for about six months) but the head pro where I take lessons said (via email) he and the other instructors didn't think I was ready yet. I emailed him back and told him I was disappointed but appreciated his honesty. Then he emailed me back and said that after the first email he sent he looked at the list and didn't recognize many names so thought I might fit in there just fine and that I should give it... Sun, 7 Jun 2009 21:05:45 EST Just Joined Hi everyone. Just joined today. I haven't actually joiined a tennis team yet, but I plan on it. I love tennis!

Looking forward to meeting all of you. Sat, 23 May 2009 22:43:32 EST Strength and cross training What does everyone do for strength or cross training, if any?

I'm new to tennis and had been doing cardio, strength, and cross training when I started taking tennis lessons.

I just finished my second half marathon yesterday.
Sun, 10 May 2009 13:29:58 EST Just playing tennis Hi, my name's Hannah and I've been playing tennis for a grand total of 2 days. I'm not part of a group, so I just use the "wall" over at the local park near my house.

I've been looking for a way to get into shape, and so far, this has been the most exciting way for me.

Hope to get to know you.

Hannah. Tue, 21 Apr 2009 21:25:48 EST Questions from a beginning player I just started taking lessons (maybe 18 one-hour sessions so far, some one-on-one and some in small groups of 2-4) and have a couple of questions. One, I asked what skill level I'm at because summer leagues require a person to be Level 2.5 or better and I'm at Level 2.0. How long does it take to get better? Two, what is a reasonable price to pay for private (one-on-one) lessons per hour? Sun, 19 Apr 2009 12:26:00 EST Hello I've been on SP for a couple months now, but just joined this team today. I was excited to discover there was a Tennis Players team because I absolutely love the sport and it would be fun to chat with other tennis enthusiasts! Wed, 1 Apr 2009 10:43:24 EST Hi from Thailand! Learning Tennis! Hi, Im an american living in Thailand.
I have recently started playing tennis regularly a few months ago. I used to play when i was younger, but I can't remember much of my coaching.
I have a friend Im playing with who is pretty alright, but I was wondering if I could get some tips on form. Easy stuff, like holding the racket, how to control the ball so it doesn't fly wildly over the fence or into other people's games. And serving, etc.
Thanks alot, happy to be in this team! <... Sun, 22 Feb 2009 12:28:52 EST keeping stats during a match Does anyone have a good way to chart during a match. I would prefer to do it on paper. I have found a lot of software ideas online but no charts for doing it by hand. Sun, 25 Jan 2009 14:42:47 EST Australian Open Any thoughts on the Open from down under?

I caught Federer's match this morning. Seppi gave him a run for his money. The announcers were talking about how they don't think he'll ever be number one again, and how he has toned up and trimmed a bit of weight to be more competitive.

I was bummed that we lost so many Americans in the first round. Must be that vegemite! Mon, 19 Jan 2009 13:11:40 EST Teaching tennis to your kids So this week, I took my 10 yo twins to the courts three times to hit balls. They've both taken tennis lessons at the local rec department during the summers, but that's the sum of their experience. So here's my question: do you try and teach your own kids tennis or is it better to sign 'em up for classes with a pro? I'm not looking to make them into pros themselves, but now that they're both over 5 feet tall, I want them to be ready-made tennis partners for ME. And if I teach them myself, is ... Sat, 3 Jan 2009 07:58:44 EST More action, less delay I played a two-hour doubles match today, and something struck me. I've noticed that my play is improving now that I'm carrying a lot less weight around the court, but what I just twigged to today is that whereas I used to saunter around the court when it came time to retrieve tennis balls, now I jog to get the balls in an effort to keep my heart rate up. That's not a huge deal, but believe me, six months ago, I needed that sauntering around time to get my breath and give me knees a break. No... Thu, 30 Oct 2008 14:44:49 EST DISNEYGAL2 & SKINNYSOON13 MEETING Hey all you tennis buddies! Just thought I'd share a picture I got today with our own DISNEYGAL2! :-)

We met today, got a nice match in, and documented our meeting for your pleasure! :-) Mon, 20 Oct 2008 22:15:58 EST Sparkie to play John McEnroe and Jim Courier!!! Hey Sparklers,

Just wanted to share some good news with you....

Ever since I was in grade school, I have always wanted to be a professional tennis player, just love playing tennis...but growing up in the small Ohio town, there was no way for me to pursue that..or even play competitive tennis for that matter....

Well earlier this year, I found a group called the GLTA (Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance), and they host about 52 tournaments per year, and actually h... Mon, 20 Oct 2008 15:53:56 EST Anyone have any NTRP specific goals? Personally, over the years, I've been working my way up the NTRP ratings. I started as a 3.5 about 10 years ago, and currently a 4.5, and working my way up to 5.0.

I've discovered over the years, that while tennis does require a fair amount of technical knowledge, it requires a tremendous physical effort. Just wondering if anyone is persuing their tennis goals actively and enthusiastically, and how are you going about doing it?

Personally I only get to play 3-4x a week... Thu, 16 Oct 2008 10:30:43 EST The latest exercise craze (or should be) It's called having your stupid electric hedge trimmers give up after 5 minutes and spend the next 2 hours trimming 100 ft of hedge with hand shears. I couldn't lift my arms by the end of it. Mon, 13 Oct 2008 18:53:50 EST A weekend without tennis is 2 days without FUN! Saturday it was POURING rain all morning (so much for getting together with my regular tennis bud).

Instead, I woke up at 4:30 am (on a SATURDAY!!!!!! - AUGH!!!!!!), let in the kitty cat - for once she zoomed right in, rather than sniffing at plants, the sidewalk, the door, etc. I did some cleaning of my bedroom, then at 6 am drove to Wally World to buy some food/sundries, then gassed up the van ($76 worth - 23 gallons - OUCH).

Then made myself breakfast. Swept mopped ... Mon, 6 Oct 2008 08:52:09 EST Tennis "FUN" - might make you crazy.... I wanted to let you know about a challenge that's accepting NEWBIES! I've run this challenge for 21, and "retired" this round, but I'm still captaining a team.

Basically, what it is - there are colored teams which you are assigned to. Thu, 25 Sep 2008 13:28:32 EST Any advise on tennis specific strength training? Hi Everyone

After a fun first lesson I have to humbly admit that I have lost a lot of strength in my arms. I managed to keep up in terms of general cardio fitness that I have been working on by doing HIIT but about half way through the lesson my arm was struggling and by the end it felt like lead.

Does anyone have any advice for specific strength training to help?

132 85 30 Wed, 24 Sep 2008 13:23:58 EST Who do you want to win Davis Cup? Too bad about the U.S. vs. Spain. They did give it the old college try, and I was very impressed with Sam Querrey. He's a guy to watch. I really enjoyed watching him play Nadal this past Saturday. Querrey won the first set, but then lost the next three (although those sets were hard fought by both men).

I'm rooting for ARGENTINA now. I'm reading an interesting book, titled "Vic Braden's Mental Tennis - How to psych yourself to a winning game." At the start of chapter 5 "Know what you want from tennis" he writes about one of his staff conducting a survey (as part of her graduate thesis in psychology), asking people at his Tennis College why they played that particular game.

I'm interested in your response(s) to the question. THEN next Tuesday, I'll write his staff member's findings. She interviewed more than ... Tue, 23 Sep 2008 16:52:50 EST Hello, anybody out there???? Are Skinny and I the only ones still playing? So, today was my first USTA match. I was really nervous! :-( Only because I didn't want to let my team down, and this is my first real "competitive" match!

So, I texted my old pro and an hour later, as I was pulling into the parking lot, I got a message! As always, he knew exactly what to say to make me laugh, cheer up, and have something to fall back on mentally while playing.

Basically, he told me to rely on my forehand. I have this really strong, hard forehand, and m... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 19:40:47 EST tennis league started today... Ouch I hurt!! We had a 3 hour and 10 minute match. Unfortunately my partner and I lost 7-5, 4-6, 5-7. All four of us played well and had long rallies. They are about 10 years younger than us. both my partner and I are 50. We were at 5 all in the third but it just didn't happen for us today. Still I know it was a well played match and we'll get them next time. Jess Tue, 9 Sep 2008 19:43:02 EST Blowing out the rust I had my first game of the season on Saturday and it felt great to be playing again but it's going to take a while to blow out the rust. Some of the touches were still there like my dropshots and topspin lobs but my serving was a bit hit or miss and I was strugling a little with the timing of my groundstrokes, Oh well it just feels good to be playing again. Mon, 8 Sep 2008 18:36:45 EST My tennis finals weekend... This past weekend was the second weekend of our local charity tournament. My partner and I played in the 4.0 semifinals on Saturday. We won a 3 set match against a very good team.

We lost in the finals on Sunday. We played someone I knew and it wasn't a fun match. Some things were done by her at the beginning of the match and I let it put me in the wrong frame of mind. No one's fault but my own. I am thankful to have made it to the finals and get to play all that great challe... Mon, 8 Sep 2008 13:03:08 EST THIS is your tennis life! How's your game? I got to play tennis this past Saturday (for 2 hours). Couldn't get my partner out there at 7 am, but we started at 7:30 am, which was almost as good. She beat me 4-6, 5-7. Oh well, it was good practice.

AND the temp was bearable.

Yesterday, I practiced with my partner's mixed doubles partner (he's at least 6-8 inches taller than me, and at least 20 years YOUNGER than me). We practiced for at least 30 minutes, then he wanted to play a match. I had spent at least 40 ... Wed, 3 Sep 2008 14:16:40 EST tennis family I uploaded some pics from this weekends Disney half marathon to my sparks page. I'm wearing my tennis outfit cause I had to go straight to my match. Can't wait to get some of this excess weight off... I don't like having my picture taken. I used to be as thin as my daughter. I do thank God that I am healthy and able to do sports and things. I just want to take better care what He has blessed me with. Jess Wed, 3 Sep 2008 00:57:45 EST HELP!!!!! Roger's in trouble I'm keeping an eye on the Federer/Andreev game and it's 2 sets all. Last night, I played combos - I'm a 3.0, my partner is a 3.5. We won the first set 6-0, then our opponents switched sides and I think I was a little too comfortable (a little full of hubris) -- and the second set started getting away from us 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, etc. until it was 6-6 and we had to play a 7 point tiebreak for the set. Mon, 28 Jul 2008 09:38:42 EST Just need to vent today.... It's Thursday and I'm bummed. Haven't been able to get together with ANYONE to play tennis since last week. My practice partners mostly have valid excuses, except for one RUDE person on the tennis team. I've called her twice, just to practice, and she doesn't have the manners just to return my call. I wouldn't mind if she just said, "Sorry, I don't think you'd be much of a challenge for me (right now I'm at 2.5 ranking, she's 3.0), or I wouldn't get much from practicing with you." But to... Thu, 24 Jul 2008 11:03:22 EST Hi Everyone! I am a huge Tennis fan! Yes... I have been known to get up in the middle of the night to watch a match. I played several years ago, but sadly have not picked up a racquet in some time. I am taking a month long clinic to get back into it starting 8/9. I look forward to getting to know you guys, getting tips and of course talking about the game. US Open is right around the corner. Wed, 2 Apr 2008 17:30:51 EST Hi all Hi everyone, I'm Neil, a keen tennis player from New Zealand. It's been our best summer on record this year so I've gotten plenty of tennis in this year and haven't done too badly in the competitions. I have a big serve and good drop shot but not much in between.
