Great job, ladies! Keep up the great work! This is going to be a tough time of year for the next two months, but we can do this! Proud of all of you!

I am down another 1.5 pounds so I have surpassed my first mini goal. My next mini goal is to be out of the 160s by the end of the year. Hoping for much sooner but being realistic with the holidays coming up.

We can definitely do this--and your are right, one day at a time, one decision at a time. Trying to analyze every time I want food--am I bored, am I truly hungry, am I just wanting food? More often than not, I really am not hungry. Trying to be mindful of it.

LEESASMAMA--thank you for the kind words. I'm not too bummed, as I too have seen this before, but it is still disappointing to post a negative trend. The combination of travel, eating out and finding treats, and less exercise tipped the balance for me last week: this week is heading a better direction I believe.

I am very much liking the inspiration I am getting from others. emoticon
If you are looking for inspiration yourself...then you will want to skip my post today--LOL It will, however, remind you that we ALL have weeks where we struggle on this Journey, and that we must keep recommitting to our goals!!

I was discussing this with my sister, and we came to the (unscientific) conclusion that our family genes still hold true to the "winter hibernation" scenario, where like a bear preparing to spend time in the den we spend several weeks each fall expanding our internal calorie storage. LOL "OK Body---you can Let Go of that need!!" hmmmmm......

Enjoy this coming week of October, don't overdo the October Fest, and don't convince yourself that you will starve this coming winter.

@LADYSTARWIND The Camino was a huge challenge for me. I had never been out of North America and had travelled very little. I didn't speak any other languages. My friend asked me to go with her. I wasn't going to until I saw the quote "Set a goal so big that you can't achieve it until you grow into the person who can" That stuck something inside of me. We made the commitment a year in advance and I walked every day for at least 2 miles to get ready for it. I tried a few times a month to walk 5-8 miles. I also download Duolingo app to learn a little Spanish. I planned to lose a little weight; I didn't. . I arrived in Spain barely able to say a few words and 70 pounds over weight. I was walking with a friend who spoke a little Spanish. We were on the Primivito for 12 days. We walked for me 11 and had a rest day at a spa in Lugo. On the 3rd night we laid in bed moaning because our bodies hurt. We decided we would turn in our plane tickets in the morning and fly to Barcelona to lay on the beach. Lol. The next day we woke up and laughed at our pity party. We got up, put on our backpacks and kept on walking. The Camino is a great experience. You meet people from all over the world with the common goal of walking. My only advice would be to use one of the services to ship you bag ahead each day. Carrying a pack for 15-20 miles a day is hard. A small day pack would have been easier.

LEESASMAMA and SPUNOUTMOM It's very nice to have some more folks join us....and congrats that you are already seeing progress towards your goal. That's a wonderful way to gather momentum which pulls us through those more difficult days.

Joanne: wow what an accomplishment! I've not heard of that pilgrimage route. (Time for some internet quearies!) How long were you traveling for? Just doing a long trip takes far more planning, an adventurous spirit and perseverance. I've never done really long travels, nor in a foreign land. I enjoyed a great backpack a year ago (look up Chilkoot Trail...), and this summer was a week long bike ride. Keep on Trekking!!

PS: my checkin: my poor scale did NOT like the results of eating out, eating at my Dad's home, nor the salty dinner my niece cooked (Bless her for cooking though!!) I'm hoping the 2.5 extra pounds will go away in these next 3 days now that I'm back to some decent food with fiber, and consistent exercise!! ye gads...its a slippery slope!!

I just re-committed to my journey one week ago today. I started at 169.5 and have a first mini goal of being at 165 by November 1. As of today, I am at 165.5! Feeling strong!

I realized I didn't post my weight last week....
1 Oct: 133.7
8 Oct: 133.9 essentially no change.
Goal: 132 (again--LOL!)

This past week has been an interesting challenge, and I've no update for today since I'm no where near a scale. I've been traveling and eating out ...a lot....but trying to choose well. We went to Olympic Natl Park to scatter MIL's ashes, then stayed with friends. Then off to my hometown to visit with high school girl friends some of whom I've not seen in --48-- years! One lady said this is like going to Brigadoon---perfect description!! It was interesting looking at us as a group: some very healthy (!! one did the 500 mile El Camino a year ago), some struggling with middle age spread as it was referred to and not willing to even try a walk/easy hike in the local riverfront park, some not healthy enough to come to lunch even, and we've lost about 10% of our class to early death...)

So here it is the beginning of week three... and I'm headed home tomorrow to a better routine! Enjoy your week by finding one better decision you can make..... My plan is to enjoy more veggie stirfry for lunch!

oh my goodness! Patti! you are absolutely right, and what a positive, encouraging and brilliant thing to point out to me. Now that I think about it, in terms of years on this journey, I too definitely go in cycles, down, plateau, up, but as you pointed out, when I do regain a bit....that weight is STILL lower than the start of the previous high-weight cycle! SO in the long loooong term, I am in actuality lowering the bar (it's just soo gradual) and yes, of course, it is just that there are a few bumps in the road haha (and for me those bumps tend to be granola!) :)

You're absolutely right, I just need to remain vigilant enough to keep slowly lowering the bar, I will get there---and stay there--- eventually.

this is definitely a lifetime journey for me too!

Hi again Failbetter.... When you are *so close* to goal its really difficult to stay in that groove, isn't it? I was down to within 2 lbs...and now back up a few. The great news for both of us: we ARE within a healthy range that is close to goal, and we know what to do.

I have found throughout my Journey that I go in cycles: drop a few, plateau or even up a bit, then refocus and drop of few, plateau and up a bit, etc. Looking back though, the most interesting part is that when I plateau and regain a bit....that weight is STILL lower than the start of the previous cycle. I figure as long as I stay vigilant enough to keep slowly lowering the bar, I will get there---and stay there--- eventually. I long ago accepted that this is a Lifetime Journey and its OK to pause, then refocus! Have a great week!

Hi, all!

I've been off SP for approx. 3 months. Wasn't sure if it was working for me and I'm so busy. But.. as expected I have gained a little and become unhappy with my body again, so here I am will try and take this slow and steady and be gentle with myself. Goal is to lose approx. 6 lbs over the next 3 or so months and eat healthy meals for a total of 1200 cals a day approx. :)

Oct. 7 = 113 lbs

My weigh in will be so-so tomorrow I expect.... was gone helping family move this week: food choices were limited and not exactly on the healthiest side of the fence...! Add in the stress factor/edgy eating/ and my poor scale might be in for it.

Hello fellow Sparkers.... are you ready to challenge yourself to make this last quarter of 2017 a good three months on your Journey? To be sure, many of us find this time of year difficult just to maintain...much less actually lose pounds. We also know it CAN be done with accountability and the right decisions.

This Challenge is to: set your own goal; check in when you wish...as often or not so often; be accountable to yourself(!), and let yourself be inspired by those folks who are showing us week by week that We Can Do This!!
