I guess it would depend on whether the thought of food turns you off or not. If you are going to end up upchucking because you forced yourself to eat, that wouldn't do your body any good.

The most important thing is to ensure that you are getting plenty of fluids. If you can take orange juice, that's better, and if you can stomach a little toast or yoghurt or banana that's good too. Chicken soup or Consommé are a great way to get the electrolytes in, however it doesn't hurt to purchase some electrolyte supplements from a pharmacy on those occasions.

As far as our metabolism is concerned, I don't think it would suffer. People often tend to drop a bit of weight when sick, but it goes back on pretty quickly as soon as they are feeling better and eating (more).

Not really sure but I am coming back from 3+ weeks of the flu and I pretty much slept/crashed the whole time.
